Share Your Thoughts on a Monday…and a Contest Alert

Contest is Now Closed.  But feel free to still share your thoughts in the comments.  Winners have been selected and I’ll have a post up once I confirm with the winners to announce them.  (So check your emails)  Thanks!

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

So Homerpalooza is nearing the end, remember it ends tomorrow, and we’re all gearing up for the “next big thing” in our Pocket-sized Springfields. But before something new hits I want all of us to take a step back and think about TSTO in general.

The last few weeks I’ve been seeing LOADS of comments from you guys about why this event was both good and bad and many of you have been commenting that TSTO isn’t holding your interest lately.  And you’ve heard our thoughts on the subject in many posts and most recently on our latest episode of Addicts Live.

So now it’s your turn.  What I want to know is what you think could be different for events in TSTO.  What could EA change that would make you really excited to play?  What would hold your interest?  What would keep you engaged? What type of events would you like to see?

And now CONTEST ALERT…

As an added bonus, we’ve got some cool Simpsons LEGO Mini Figs donated to us by BrickGuySD and I’m going to give 2 of them out at random.  So to enter for your chance to win a LEGO Mini Fig (location doesn’t matter, we’ll ship all over the world) simply comment your thoughts on what EA can do to change TSTO Events (or just what you’d like to see for an event idea) between now and tomorrow (Tuesday September 12th, at 9am ET) and we’ll pop the commenters into the randomizer and pick two at random to win!

Pretty simple right? Just comment with your thoughts on what EA can do to make the next event in TSTO better, hold your interest or just what you want to see as an event idea and you’ll automatically be entered to win a Simpson LEGO mini Fig!  Sweet!

And real quick, because we have to, here are the Official Rules…

-Entries are via the comment section of this post only.  Comments anywhere else (or emails) will not count as official entries.
-Enter as many times as you’d like (i.e. Comment as many times as you’d like)

  1. Hi again! 🙂
I forgot to mention some things I’d like to see in TSTO besides the event changes I’ve mentioned: the ability to sell some items that we can’t sell now, an option to send every character to visible tasks at once, a way to change the tasks lengths (making a visible task that takes 4 hours become a 8 hours task for example), more new items that costs in game cash, a way to have some kind of communication with our neighbors (sending them small messages or adding some message to our own Springfield).

  2. Things I would like to keep my interest:

    1) The ability to pick from a larger list of persons during an event (beyond the low level persons like Cletus (lvl 6), Willie (lvl 10), or Moe (lvl 15), which I understand are necessary for newer players to be able to do the events), by limiting the number of people send-able. For example during Homerpalooza the school had four slots… they could increase the number of playable persons, but still limit the number of slots.

    2) In event weekly challenges for a separate prize.

    3) Ability to place roads, pavement, or dirt in square by square increments, not the current block by block pattern.

    4) Change the task during a event to create more of a questline rather then repeating the same task over and over.

    5) Decrease in NPCs. Most of my hang out in storage cause they clutter up the roads.

  3. Make a character finder in town hall for npcs so you can find them in your town just like a playable character
Allow it so that when you go to the unemployment office you can send characters on jobs who have 2 hour tasks and 5 hour tasks or 6 hour tasks
Put a search bar in the inventory and store so you can find what you want by typing it in
    More mini games
New stuff for krustyland, squidport, and Springfield heights on a regular basis

  4. An event involving the pets of Springfield would be fun, and maybe a space theme involving the aliens. I didn’t enjoy the two events prior to Homerpalooza at all and was wondering if I would continue playing after almost 5 years of very dedicated daily playing, which would be a shame because overall I love the game. Luckily, I loved Homerpalooza and have enjoyed playing this event. I was disappointed that except for the crowds (which are really fun and can be used many different ways), many of the crafting prizes were pretty lame and repeats of items from previous events. Although the big events last quite a long time, I am okay with the length because it gives you an opportunity to complete the quests even if you miss a few days or are unable to complete four rounds every day, plus if you finish early, it is a great way to build up bonuts. I would love to be able to communicate with my neighbors to compliment them on their designs, let them know I will be gone for a few days so they don’t dump me, apologize for accidentally vandalizing them, etc. It would be nice during events if we knew ahead of time whether the neighbor has room to drop tappables like lawyers – I wasted a lot of time waiting for neighbors’ towns to load only to find out that they were full of lawyers and I couldn’t drop any. Speaking of wasting time, it needs to be MUCH EASIER to find tappables in neighbor’s towns – this is the first event I didn’t visit every neighbor every day, it took WAY too long to find the fans. It would also be very helpful to have a counter so you know how many lawyers are wandering around in your town so you don’t miss so many of them. I agree that the inventory needs serious help so it is easier to search. Lastly, thank you to all of you at Tapped out Addicts for all of your research and guidance helping us make the most of our game play. We appreciate all of your hard work!

  5. Oh, and I would REALLY REALLY REALLY like a searchable inventory! Even just ‘grouped by event and level/series of levels’ would help immeasurably, if we cant get an actual search function! I like the current catagories, i would just want more tags to be able to further refine my searching.

  6. One week, maaaayyyyybe 10 days, per act, if theyre going to continue the “3 segement” concept (which isnt a bad one! It just drags on by midway thru the 3rd act…sometimes the beginning of the 3rd act!).

    COMMUNITY PRIZES FOR EVENTS!!

My disappointment in this event is that it seemed so…lazy. I mean, a MUSIC EVENT where the THEME MUSIC NEVER CHANGED??! I was really excited about the potential music change while I played and…nothing. Seriously??! I was done with the crafting prize track by the beginning of act 2 ffs, and it’s mostly crap or returning items! (Now, I did want more colored spotlights & I am grateful I didnt have to pay donuts or anything, but *sheesh*) That the main prizes for act 3 were all just skins…I basically played for the bonuts at that point – Bart & Cletus are always in the railyard, when on earth will those (admittedly adorable) skins be used?? Let’s not talk about the Monster Truck of Disappointment as a main prize…

I wouldnt mind seeing new neighbor prizes, it seems to be more of a draw for me that random bonuts (that I rarely get, apparently cursed lol).

I’d like to see REGULAR PREMIUM CHARACTERS used as ‘surprise helpers’ in events. It’s always a nice surprise, and then doesnt feel like a RIPOFF when youre expected to BUY *PREMIUM COSTUMES!!* FOR YOUR ALREADY PREMIUM CHARACTERS. *ahem* 😉

There have to be ways of switching things up, because theyve done it before. Is it just laziness that causes them to default to this 2wk-3-Act system? Casino was fun, and what really sucked me in.

Animations are important!! Some characters only have 1 animated task – boo hiss! ESPECIALLY premium characters.

I definitely feel like, at the very least, community prizes would help. I felt so much more engaged in the FG:TQFS Christmas event a few years ago, because we were all working toward a goal & I felt kinda like id let my fellow players down if I was slacking (& we did earn God in the end! 😁). lol TSTO has done them before too, so I think it’d be great to give it another go.

I think the acts should be shorter (3 days doesnt sound like a lot, but ends up being over another week of grinding away! 10 days sounds good, a 4wk/month-long in total), & definitely make the main prize worth winning!

  7. Hey! 🙂
Some of the things I think EA could do to make events better are: add more mini games (like that one from Stonecutters event), remove the boring “find tappable items” (like the lawyers in this last event), allow us to use more characters in events.

  8. I would like to be able to search and categorize stored items. Let us make our own folders to store items.

The crafting items were awful in this event. I got very bored with the jam sessions. The boredom made it such a grind and made it difficult to be motivated to complete each act.

  9. Definitely shorter events. Two acts is plenty. Even better is a series of mini events. More craftables during events that generate cash and experience after the event. Like wailing walls. With halloween coming up, would like to see a permanent task for all the dead characters to meet at new building.

  10. Events that end in the same week of the holiday they represent.

  11. No more predictable 4hour tasks repeated throughout the event.

  12. I would love to see a change to the 3 act format.
Maybe even breaking it up into 4 single week acts would be a refreshing change.

  13. Do something with Krustyland – ‘The land that EA forgot’, preferably with an event that will help to fill all that space that we cleared. Include mini games (that will remain once the event is over) that awards prizes that can be used in Krustyland which will hopefully entice us want to visit regularly.

  14. I would like the ability to save different town layouts and then move between them. Then I could destroy my town and start rebuilding while still having a town that I can play normally in.

I agree with the comments on events. Short and sweet please.

I like the minigames. Pity that the gambling games disappeared after that event.

Finally – please do something with Krustyland. Perhaps a rollercoaster that can be built like the monorail with special features like a loop or corkscrew. Or a log flume. Just something.

  15. Long time daily addicted player here (+4 years). Many of my ideas have been detailed (and greatly expanded) by other fellow members here, so I will just some that I haven´t seen around:

    – Ability to include a welcome message for your Neighboorinos. Reason for this is that most of my TSTO friends seem to live in the US, and I´d like to have the option to warn them that I´d be available for catching lawyers from 08am to 24pm GMT (although here in Spain is GMT+1/+2), so when I start the day I don´t have like three/four notifications about friends that left lawyers that I couldn´t even had the chance to catch for them … or say I´m not going to be playing for the next two weeks … or just say “Thank you for sharing your game with me!”. You name it.

    – An option (switch?) at the Job Centre so that characters will use the best skin available for them. So you don´t have to go one by one manually changing that.

    – An option to export an image of your whole Springfield. I understand some of the technical implications of doing this (Software developer here), so say you could have access to this service one time per month, or pay an affordable sum of donuts for an option to do it whenever you´d like. People love to show their talent designing!

    – More mini-games, hide-and-seek ones are my favourites, say find the missing rod: Search for a tiny-jumping-hard-to-see-green-rod hiding somewhere in your Springfield.

    – Asking too much here: an option to play without an internet connection?! I´d love to spend some time redesigning everytime I have to take a 3hr flight …

    – Prizes for real good designs. EA can develop some AI to help them identifying good candidates, then give them nice Prizes for spending time/money in their game. Once in a while all winners could be published in our games, giving us the opportunity to wander these towns for some limited time (envy/learn from the best ones).

  16. I would love to see vehicles finally moving through the streets, possibly with new missions for characters. An event launching such a new development would be awesome.

  17. 1. Shorten the event.
    2. Allow more characters to be involved.
    3. Allow new items to be purchased throughout the length of the event and not just for a minimum amount of days
    4. Ridiculously time consuming finding the tappable items in Friends’ towns, especially in Phase 1 of an event. FIX THIS!

  18. Still waiting for the App update… it has been a couple of hours since the Event items have been removed from the store but no sign of any other update. Sigh. So that’s another suggestion for events: tidy up the ending!

  19. I would like to see older buildings get used for events, maybe just as a little bonus. For example during Halloween the Drive in Theatre could show horror movies and would earn event currency. KBBL could “play” Christmas music non-stop from November 1st to valentine’s Day.

  20. Some great ideas from fellow tappers here.
However there is definitely a common theme.
Make events shorter, more imaginative & give newer players the chance to earn characters & buildings from past events.
I missed out on Stone Cutters but from what I can gather this had been one of the best events yet. So EA please use some of the ideas that were used in this & change things up a bit the future.

  21. 1) 1-4-8-12-24-hour tasks for each character, independently.
    2) When using the unemployment office, the last chosen task (for the selected time interval) should be used AND the appropriate skin.
So Mr. Burns can recycle metal junk for the railroad and after that he returns back to the money mountain in his monkey vest. Automagically. Please!
    3) We need a better structure in our inventory. I craft and collect everything which might come in use later (e.g. festival fences – THESE are easy to recover in my inventory at least) but have difficulties finding them. When I finally scrolled to the end of the list, placed the item and decide I need one more the scrolling chore starts again.
    4) I do NOT mind the length of Homerpalooza. I started 5 days too late (OK and bought the premium characters) but had enough time to finish the acts.
The lenght of the acts give all more casual players the chance to finish.
The early bonuts system helps the others to endure the grinding 😛
    5) I love the vault! Got Spf Pet Shop for 90-25 today (didn’t know that Jub-Jub ist a full character!) and Mr. Teeny finally has his 8h task, Stampy got his 4h one.
    6) The neighbour handling is a mess. I’d like to have access to the full info while I’m in my neighbour’s city.
    7) The UFOs (unpleasant flying objects) should not be tappable any more except for voices like in my neighbours towns.

Thoughts on better events? Neighbour actions should be cancelled, 10 instead of 30 tappable neighbours has been a relief compared to TTT.
Instead there should be more actions like lawyers/prospectors/christmas gifts. The mini games left after an event are great, I still use the excavation site 😀
Some of the grinding actions cold be interrupted by more questlines, or more sidequests like Al’s tasks, Maggie’s christmas gnome etc.

  22. Maybe a “Lemon of Troy” mini event. Springfielders could do task to show their support of Springfield. We could get some of the dopplegangers from Shelbyville as prizes.

  23. Shorter events would be nice.
    Less forced agendas.
Keep the game fun & apolitical like the show used to be. It was ok when there were just a few kooky characters like Lisa, now too many of them seem to have an all too familiar bias.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the next event involved an angry mob tearing down the Jebidiah statue, the way things are going.

  24. Search in inventory! Search in character list in town hall. Another type of pavement with texture, something a little fancier for nice areas in town. Would like to be able to sell or even just delete things in inventory that I’ll never use. And we could all always use more land…

  25. I would like to have a krustyland challenge. I’ve been playing for 6 months now and it seems that krustyland is an underrated after thought. Also I’d love a character that’s soul purpose is to go to neighboring towns and collect fp . Some of us just don’t have time to tap 100 neighbors daily . Just my opinion.

  26. I would really like to see my town at night… did I put up enough lamps, will there be some shady areas, buildings with randomly lit windows…?

  27. I have been playing since June or July 2012.

    STOP REPEATING YOURSELVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have commented about this before, but why is every event is a carbon copy of every other event??? Gee, let me guess what the next event will be like. There will be 3 acts which individually & cumulatively drag on wayyyy toooo loooonng. I will have to craft a bunch of piddly crap to unlock the ability to craft the next piece of piddly crap, which I will then not be able to craft because I spent all the currency just to unlock the ability to craft it.

The questlines will require me to use the same 6-10 core characters as every other event. This then screws up my Tues-Wed monorail & freebie doughnut recycling. Why don’t Zutroy, The Yes Guy, Legs, Grandpa, etc. ever get recruited in?? Please EA, mix things up!!! And why not reuse all the one off buildings from past events once in a while??? Why should every event need a new building to craft out of? Reuse the one from the 1st Halloween where you started this form of play.

They peaked with Stone Cutters 3 years & 3 months ago. It was original & innovative. You had to figure out the daily riddle to pick the right NOVEL character to complete a daily task (of unknown & random duration). There were longer tasks/questlines separate from the riddles. You could actually find the buildings with the eyes on top. Not hunting for fans in a neighbor’s town or hoping to stumble across a lawyer left in your town (& missing 5 of them most likely).

Stop the grind & stop the zero creativity repetition with slightly modified window dressing for every event. I would be a lot happier going back to the way it used to be: random assigned tasks (but stop with 24 hr random tasks right before events that tie up important characters needed for the event), major show storyline events (Whacking Day, Chili Cook Off) , & holiday associated events. And bring back the bunny zapper/ghost vacuum type devices to speed up collection.

  28. I guess I mentioned this before, but: lately I enjoyed the mini-events much more than the big ones. They are usually centered around one episode, the storylines are better thought out, and the prize track has stuff that’s all tied together by the storyline/episode. Also, they are not as time consuming, you don’t have to log in five times a day, and much shorter. Long ramble short, I would like to see more mini-events, and only 2 (maybe 3) big ones per year. The level updates and episode tie-ins were nice, too, but I guess they are not coming back…
Overall I like stuff that let’s us be more creative. Give us more small, every-day decorations, like more different bushes, flowers, maybe picnic tables. I also like the add-on buildings we got in SH, so you can build your very own complex (modern /classic mansions & beach hideaway).
It would also be neat, if characters would interact with their surroundings more. I usually let my peeps wander around, if they are not needed on any task, and it would be so cool if they just sat down on benches sometimes, entered a building or picked some flowers. Just let them “use” the stuff that’s around them, and yes, driving cars – on roads! – would be in that category, too. The actions they’ve added when certain characters meet are a good start in that direction, I like seeing Luigi and Fat Tony do an impromptu jam session in the street.
Last but not least: Since I am a hoarder, I always have trouble finding stuff in my inventory. The categories are not really helping, a lot of the time I have to go through the whole thing. Search function would be nice, or even something basic like jumping forward in the list to all the stuff that starts with a certain letter of the alphabet.

    • One more thing re the inventory: I’d like the ability to set some sort of bookmark, so I can go back to where I left off after placing an item, and not go back to the start.

  29. I played Tapped Out a few years ago, so much I couldn’t stop, and I eventually found myself thinking about my Springfield all day long. Events were my favorite part since they brought new content, and the feeling of getting a limited chatacter or item feels so good as that might have been your only chance to ever get it. The events were however very repetitive, and still kinda are. I eventually got bored and stopped playing Tapped Out, but got back into it a week ago. The events are the exact same except with different items. I like it, but it does get old. Should they try to do something different? Yes, definitely. I’ve seen a lot of other people complain about the events, as they find them boring and/or irritating. I personally have no ideas, but I think EA should come up with something small and try it out in one event. Doesn’t work? Don’t use it in the next one. It does work? Use it, and maybe add another small feature.

Tapped Out has so much potential as it can do pretty much any way. For example, Sci-Fighter came from the Sci-Fi event, and it’s a small minigame that makes you tap robots for some items. It’s kinda fun, and I think they should do more something like that.

  30. Krustyland! Won’t someone think of the children….and have a whole event in Krustyland( maybe a Christmas event).
More items that can be purchased with in-game cash.
I second the idea that it would be wonderful to be able to zoom out a little more, so hard to design with only a fragmented view of my Springfield.
Shorter events, except for the two biggies- Halloween and Christmas. I like to do major decorating for each of these, and like plenty of time to tinker with my seasonal decorating.
Cheers from the Edge of the Map kiwikitty88
