Black Friday in the US is the day after Thanksgiving and is known for it’s promotional sales (Think “Boxing Day” sales the day after Christmas for those in the Commonwealth). So today and tomorrow, I’ll take an in-depth look at each of these eight Mystery Boxes.
We start with the Bronze Mystery Box!

Now, while I know you can’t pick and choose which items you want from the box, I included the Should I Buy posts from the past so you all can see how much they originally cost and what specifically each building, character, or decoration does.
20 donuts is a bargain for most of these items (especially Mr. Sparkle and the Dragon Bundle originally 100 donuts each)…except for items that were originally free, as getting it for free is the best deal…but still 20 donuts is a fair price for most of the items at least. So my thoughts are, if you have something in there you really want…give it a try. You’ll likely get something worth it. Though, personally, I’ll be going for the Character Mystery Box first.

I’m really glad non-unique items don’t return to the boxes. I already had quite a few and it made my chances better for Water Show Fountain and Quick & Fresh. I’m happy I got them, Pokey, and Imaginary Bear. I like NPC animals roaming around my town. I did have countless crashing issues with every gamble though.
I needed pretty much everything in the character box so bought them all first. And then I wanted Mr. Sparkle. It’s all I really wanted in the bronze box but with 22 items to choose from some were at least interesting to me. I kid you not I got Mr. Sparkle in the 22nd box. At least I got a fair bit of bonus % but 400 donuts is a lot for one character. But he’s making me happy at least!

Thanks for the post. I have the Blocko Store (it looks so nice next to the Play Dough Factory), I’d give a try on this box, but I’m not really into buildings (the Banana Dictatorship is great) or NPCs and some itens bonus are really poor, so I’ll pass and buy things only from the Vault.
Is this the first time Pokey has been available in years? Pokey and the Guinea Pig Rescue Center are rare. I’ve only seen them in like one Springfield in all my time playing.

I so hate these boxes, but I’ve been saving donuts for Dedrick and the coliseum – didn’t get it on the 1st try, got the Vegas wives(don’t even know who they are, but it’s a pair of characters anyway, lol) figured I’d give it one last shot and scored Dedrick – was soo pumped! I think it was maybe a discount plus 2 more characters – and I get to use boxing dedrick that been sitting in my inventory forever!! So stoked anyways, almost better than an extra helping of Turkey Day stuffing!!

So I’ve decided I have no interest in the items in the bronze box, the decoration box, and the remaining items in the gold box (not worth the $). I don’t think I care much for the outdoor box either. I’m looking at the retail box, and the building box if I get anymore items at all.
I took a pull from the retail box. I got the Springfield Mall. Just what I wanted! Very cool. I stuck it next to Costington’s. Good boost to my retail district. I’d like some other specific buildings, but I don’t know how many doughnuts I want to spend trying to get them.

The most interesting for me was character box. Had 5 characters available only – Powell Motors – the most expensive one, yay! Second one Dia-Betty. Not what I wanted, but good value I think. Third Sophie Krusty (that is which I wanted most). Remains Ling Bouvier and Italian Villa (not enough donuts for next try at the moment).
Has anyone encountered an odd FX problem. I have all the items from the mystery boxes but within my game it’s making a constant dinging sound. To be precise the sound when something is complete. Does anyone seem to have that issue too? It only began with this Black Friday update.
Yeah me too. Went to friends and Kristy land. Still there. Came back few hours later and it won’t stop.
This exact situation is happening for me. I uninstalled the game and reinstalled and it did not fix the glitch.
Same here… I tried the first thing to go to Krustyland and visit neighbors and it didn’t fix and then I did a uninstall, hard close, reinstall and I have the same issue…… it’s annoying.
Thanks for the info. Curious about the Imanginary Bear. I thought this was the NPC from 2(?) xmas ago? The bear cave is different and, I think, a prize in a different mystery box (maybe the outdoors one). This was likely 30 or so odd donuts to purchase, like the prospector, at the end of the event?
I went for the character mystery box first. I only had two items in the box. Vegas wives, and the motherloving sugar company with Dia-Betty. I bought both. I’m at a loss as to what to do next. I have a lot of doughnuts to play with, but I honestly don’t want EVERYTHING. I need to study this more.
Just curious. What’s the highest bonus associated with an item? I think 6.75 that comes with the dragons is the highest I’ve seen.

Safi, small correction on the imaginary bear. It was released by itself with the Christmas takedown event (the one where we first got Maggie). I’m sure it was more than the 20 doughnuts that the mystery box costs, but you’d have to check previous posts for the actual cost – my memory’s not that good :). The bear cave was a deco released during the event for 100 doughnuts and there was some disappointment expressed at the time that it was just a deco and not an NPC.
20 Donuts is definitely a fair price but there are so much items I do not want and few that are cool…
I am definitely Team Empty Character Box First! 10 Donuts to go and I can get all 12 that I am missing.
Tried my luck to get the dragons, no luck, hot springs, prospector, water shower and Tball, back to the farm for me.
For me, that would be being lucky… i am just interested in blocko and hot springs

Am I in danger of getting multiples of items I already have or have just won from the same box?

I got powell motors from the character box, but it kinda froze my game. Had to quit out and log back in to origin and everything. I still had my donuts, but I didn’t keep Powell motors. Tried again and got the same thing. Powell motors is freezing my game. Is this happening elsewhere or with different items? I hope I can get it as it’s one of the best items in the boxes. I know this is for a different box, but the character box post isn’t up yet.
When I logged back in again it started on the you got powell motors screen. I decided to store instead of place immediately, and that let me continue with the game. I was then able to place him from my inventory normally. Maybe my game just freaked out for a bit. If anyone else has a similar problem maybe storing will solve it.
Sounds like resources on your device is getting low for this to happen.
That might be the case. I have been experiencing notable lag at times. Maybe It’s time to upgrade
Mine crashed too, not sure if it was with Powell. (I got several.) After it crashed, I got 226 doughnuts back and still had the things I purchased with those doughnuts. Several that I said to place were put in storage.
Nice things included but for me everything this box is a pass…the chance to get stuff i dont want to have is too high.
Whenever you guys do these mystery box rundowns you mention how the free things were free, but you should also mention how many donuts they cost since then. Originally free four years ago doesn’t really help me decide if it’s worth it. Seeing that that item has since cost x amount of donuts would help deciding.
I wish we could swap. Saved up 100 donuts from railyard grinding and got t-ball and old west sign out of this box. 🙁 And the Hammock district. Just once I’d love to get something I need and or want.
Character box first -absolutely! Got Powell Motors on my fourth try. That is probably the best deal in character box. Jimbo, Angry Watkins and Wiccans were my first three prizes.
