Should You Buy Radioactive Homer?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Spending actual cash on donuts for a character is back in TSTO.  This is something EA’s been rolling out over the last few years, and it’s a new bonus for actually spending cash on donuts. (instead of just farming them)  Where they attach a premium, limited-time, character to one of the donut bundles sometimes in addition to bonus donuts.

And I want to be perfectly clear…you do not need to buy these characters to complete an event.  You can still play this game, and complete all the tasks and prizes, 100% free.  These cash-for-character items are a new type of premium currency…because donuts have been so devalued with donut farming.

This time around we’re being offered Radioactive Homer,  a premium costume for Homer, for a tray of 132 Donuts ($9.99 in the US) bonus this time around.  While it’s hard for me to sit here and tell you if you should or shouldn’t spend actual cash on the game (spoiler, I think you should always spend at least a small amount…even if it’s $.99/year on the game if it brings you joy and you want to see it continue) I thought I’d do a quick breakdown of Radioactive Homer, tasks, questline and other details you may be curious about.

So let’s consider this an abbreviated Should I Buy….

So what is the deal?  When you can find it in the Currency Tab of your Store (also by hitting Get More)…

Basically, spend $9.99 on a Tray of 132 donuts and you get the Radioactive Homer costume.

And, again, yes, for those outside of the US I know my price is probably lower than yours.  EA only charges 9.99 USD for this package…anything over that that you are currently paying goes to Google/Apple/Amazon for Tax and Duty etc.  EA only collects the 9.99.

As I’ve said a million times now (at least it feels like it), I’m NOT a fan of the $9.99 price point for a costume (especially one for Homer).  I have no issue with $9.99 for a new character, but for a costume, it’s very disappointing.  Costumes should be no more than $4.99.

So here’s a breakdown on Radioactive Homer…

-Full character
-Comes with a complete set of tasks
-Comes with a questline
-Some fun visual/animated tasks
-Classic costume for Homer
-From a “Homer Goes to College” S5, E3

Here’s a look at the task list

Radioactive Homer’s Permanent Tasks…

Task Length Earns Location
Enjoy the Glow 1hr $105, 26xp Power Plant
Look for Snacks 4hrs $260, 70xp Restaurants in Springfield

Spread Radiation Around Town 12hrs $600, 150xp Outside/Visual
Frighten Shoppers 24hrs $1,000, 225xp Stores in Springfield

And here’s the full dialogue version of the questline:

The Warm Radioactive Glow of Success Pt. 1
Radioactive Homer starts

Homer: All these stupid TikTokers going viral for their stupid challenges…and they’re not even challenging! “Let’s set up a bunch of gummy bears and pretend they’re singing Adele even though they’re clearly not.” Oooooooh, I’m sooooo impressed! Someone needs to show these n00bs what a REAL challenge is.
Carl: Hey, Homer! Stop looking at your phone and pay attention. You almost walked through the door to the reactor core without your hazmat suit!
Homer: Oh, I’m walking through that door. Because the world is about to be introduced to…the Expose Yourself to Nuclear Radiation Challenge!
Make Homer Shoot a TikTok at the Reactor Core- 4hrs
Make Carl Drop “Oh No” Song as Background Track- 4hrs
Carl: Why did you do that? Here, take these potassium iodide tablets now!
Radioactive Homer: I will…right after I go back into the core.
Carl: What?! No! Don’t go back!
Radioactive Homer: I have no choice. I accidentally shot in landscape instead of portrait.

The Warm Radioactive Glow of Success Pt. 2
Radioactive Homer starts

Radioactive Homer: Homer going viral! Just got 50,000 views!
Carl: And my Geiger counter just hit 5,000 millisieverts. Can you please take a few steps back? Also what’s with the yelling and frothing at the mouth? You sure you don’t wanna just take the tablets?
Radioactive Homer: Homer strong now! Also Homer in touch with youth culture. Carl stay here and keep acting old. Homer do meet-and-greets with new fans!
Make Radioactive Homer Spread Radiation Around Town- 4hrs
Skinner: We’re receiving reports of kids trying the Expose Yourself to Nuclear Radiation Challenge! We need Homer to record another TikTok telling them not to do it!
Wiggum: Let’s hold off for a couple days and wait for Lil Huddy and Bryce Hall to do the challenge. THEN we’ll have Homer record the video.
Skinner: Good thinking.

The Warm Radioactive Glow of Success Pt. 3
Radioactive Homer starts

Radioactive Homer: Video’s up to one million views! Homer happy!
Burns: Simpson! Get back to work!
Radioactive Homer: Grrrrr.
Burns: Not at your work station, you idiot! We need you to make more TikTok videos as the plant’s new social media manager!
Smithers: Uh, Mr. Burns, are you sure you don’t want to hire someone else for this? Maybe somebody a little younger?
Burns: There is no one else! Simpson’s the only person on TikTok who doesn’t want to ban nuclear power and gendered pronouns!
Make Radioactive Homer Put Doja Cat Song On Video- 4hrs
Burns: Pick up the pace, Simpson! We need more power plant-related content!
Radioactive Homer: Actually, I’m feeling a little sick.
Burns: You know what would be sick? A collab between you and Tana Mongeau!

The Warm Radioactive Glow of Success Pt. 4
Radioactive Homer starts

Radioactive Homer: So Bart, what do you think of my latest TikTok where me and my pet beaver convert one of the power plant’s vans into a living space while singing songs from Backyardigans?
Bart: Haven’t seen it, Dad. Wasn’t on my For You page.
Burns: Your views are going down faster than Bitcoin in the Great Crypto Crash of 2023. You’re fired as social media manager!
Radioactive Homer: That not fair! This not Homer’s fault! It fault of the algorithm!
Marge: Wow, blame the algorithm. Can’t believe you went there. I am truly ashamed to call you my husband.
Make Radioactive Homer Lash Out at TikTok Nerds- 4hrs
Make Carl Drop “Oh No” Song as Background Track- 4hrs
Carl: Homer! You’re looking normal again! Feeling better?
Homer: I was…until I saw that Charli D’Amelio unfollowed me. D’oh!

That’s pretty much it on Radioactive Homer.  A very pricey new costume for Homer.

What are your thoughts on Radioactive Homer?  Have you made the purchase?  Will you be making the purchase? Thoughts on the questline and tasks?  Sound off below you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Also wow wow boomer EA discovered TikTok, Doja Cat and the Oh no sound only 2 years into the pandemic lolol

  2. I agree that 10 real life cash monies (it’s 9,99 euro in Eurotrash zone) is a hideously high price for Yet Another Homer skin nr 989!!

For this price, the entire Simpson family including Ling Bouvier, Snowball and SLH should have a full set of radioactive skins and triple eyes!

Butt (a Hugh Jass capital butt) I freaking do love Radioactive Springfield, science, post apocalypse and Cold war vibes, soooooo I did buy it lol. Yes I’m sorry I enabled EA to continue extorting us for yet another year… (It’s good that you did that Bart, really good.. nervous laugh..). Takes me back to good old Red Alert 2 Soviet game vibes (another EA game I spent lots of hours on)

I really wish more characters got this skin AND that the entire city had the Radioactive Glow instead of the snow! ☢️ Glow not snow! Glow not snow ☢️💚☣️♻️

  3. Until EA fixes the Game App? I refuse to spend another 💵 and now that I know Google allows you to file a complaint regarding every 💵 you have spent? – it means an App Developer (EA) has to guarantee you still have what you paid for OR they must refund you ( I got my biggest checkmate “fix it so that I can Login to my Springfield OR refund me every 💵 I spent over the years”).

    I enjoy TSTO
I miss my Neighboureenos who bailed on TSTO due to the incompetence by EA
I appreciate those helpful EA Customer Support / Tech Support personnel
I don’t appreciate being told “you should just start over” (that’s fine if you want to give me every 💵 and 🍩’s obtained, because from what I’ve seen? Playing from the beginning isn’t what it used to be 9 years ago, it’s very “you need 🍩’s to level up, you don’t have access to the XP collider, you don’t have the Golden Goose Realtor”) 🙄

  4. Good day Alissa,
This is excellent post. 👏 I agree with all of the points you’ve made. Especially the price of the 🚨 Homer costume..
While we complain about E 👀 A 👀’ s lack of costumer service.
We have been enjoying this silly little game for about 10 years.

Not many games have been able to withstand the test of time, as TSTO has. Even with all of its glitches, bugs, and B S O D. OH, and Let’s not forget the biggest and heart breaking fiasco of all time with which we started out 2022.

E👀 A👀’s decision to no longer code the game or compose an algorithm ( not sure what the proper terminology is appropriate ) to support TSTO on the older gaming systems.
Was the last straw for many players. I lost lots of my neighbors.
We addicts continue to enjoy playing this game. What really rile’s me up.
Is that they didn’t let any of their followers know about their decision to do this.
They could have made some sort of announcement informing us of their intention. I’ll never forget what one addict wrote when we found out what was really happening with the game. He wrote ” I’ve been playing too long to go down like this ” Ouch!
Unfortunately, I don’t remember his name.
I don’t mind spending a few dollars here and there in order to support a game that has given me so much joy and frustration.

In these uncertain times not everyone can go spend several hundred dollars on a new system to play on. I M H O.
Anyway, I’m sorry for rambling on but I had to express my feelings.
Even though I had to buy a new system, I will continue to play and spend some money as long as I’m still having fun. LOL 😎

  5. Probably going to pass. I have spent fairly recently, and while this looks fun, it has to be a must have considering my budget.

  6. OTOH,
My oatmeal remains fresh, in sullied and not rendered soggy from tears rolling off my cheeks as I bemoan NOT spending $10 for a COSTUME.

We’re this a character, my emotions and considerations would be more greatly impacted.

  7. I bought it. Fun character and tasks. And, like Alissa I believe you’ve got to spend a little cash, otherwise EA will drop the game
