WDTCF – Madame Chao’s

Love is in the air, valentines are being passed out and hearts abound.  New events mean new buildings so I guess it’s time for another Where Did THAT Come From for my favorite readers.  Today’s item: Madam Chao’s.

This new building comes from The Last Temptation of Homer (S5:E9).  You know, when this episode first aired in 1993, I distinctly remember thinking how attractive I thought Mindy Simmons was.  Granted being a 13-year-old boy comes with its own unique challenges as far as the opposite sex is concerned, but the idea of Homer cheating on Marge had me enthralled.  She seemed so perfect for him.  The tale of morality was pretty deep to me.  In the end, Homer of course picks Marge and I think his little song has been stuck in my head ever since.

“Oh Margie, you came and you found me a turkey, on my vacation away from work-y.”

Of course, with age comes wisdom and we all know that Homer would be a fool to ever do anything to lose Marge.  I was seriously upset during The Simpsons Movie when she left him.  Plus, Marge really is one sexy, understanding mom.

Surprise surprise, I’m rambling again like usual.  This post isn’t about Mindy or temptation or an attraction to a cartoon character, it’s about Madam Chao’s, our new freemium restaurant courtesy of the 2014 Valentine’s Day Update.  At the low, low price of $2500 and including a new character (a beautiful ginger to boot!), I really couldn’t be happier.

In the episode, Homer ends up having to attend a National Energy Convention in Capitol City (the Windy Apple) for work.  His co-worker that goes with him is Mindy.  At the convention, the pair win a prize to Madame Chao’s (the sexiest Chinese restaurant in Capitol City) after being crowned as the King and Queen of Energy for no apparent reason.

I’ll always remember Madame Chao’s because of their fortune cookies.  Who thinks those things really give good advice?  They all come from barrels, right?

NERD NOTE FROM WIKIPEDIA: Fortune cookies have been summarized as being “introduced by the Japanese, popularized by the Chinese, but ultimately … consumed by Americans.”

Kind of weird for our newest building to actually not be from Springfield but really no weirder then an Irish Pub from Ireland or a Log Cabin transported from the past.  What do you think of it?  Excited to get a new lady in town?  Do you like sexy Chinese food? For more on Mindy, stay tuned because rumor has it Bunny is covering her very soon.

  1. Where is Madame Chao’s and Mindy now? I can’t find it anywhere to buy…not as a premium item or regular. I had it on a previous game and now on this new game I’m playing it isn’t coming up at all.

  2. It is great 3 women characters so soon after kumiko.

Mindy is my favourite and I am spooked that she turned up after my Michelle Pfeiffer comment.

  3. Just in your wiki note about fortune cookies. It is a North American thing. There are no fortune cookies in China.

  4. Don’t you think it’s odd that Mindy rides her motorcycle on the sidewalk? Just zipping around, right over children? EA here’s an opportunity to add a great vehicle to the street.

Love this new building. Interesting tidbits I didn’t know about. Thanks Wookie.

    • I hadn’t seen her do that task yet. She’s currently working with Homer. That is definitely strange. Hopefully some day we get cars moving on roads in some way, shape or form.

  5. For the last few days I kept reading the name of the restaurant as “Madame Chaos” and was really confused as to why they would serve Chinese cuisine.

    • Nice! I like the way you were reading it much better.

    • Oh… I just realised I’ve been reading it wrong too… I was thinking, “isn’t the apostrophe in the wrong place? Oh someone else will tell ea and they’ll sort it.” Doh!

  6. Anyone else happy they gave us THREE new women this time? Mindy and Brandine are very memorable characters – at least for me. And Shauna, well… didn’t really remember her from the show. But hey, three new women! Woo-hoo!

  7. Bunny! Please help! I was going through my neighboreenos earlier, collecting hearts..but then I noticed that some of the towns didn’t have a “valentine’s day card” icon hovering above characters like in the previous towns..What should I do? Is it a glitch?

    • Hi Farah…is it ok if I help? 🙂 They probably haven’t cleared their cards yet, similar to too many gifts in a town at Christmas. Check out this post for more details.

  8. On a side note, I was having all kinds of problems getting knocked out of the game while visiting neighbors towns. It was really frustrating. I noticed it always happened if I started tapping valentines as soon as I got to a new town. Especially if all the characters were bunched together. I found that if I wait for about five seconds for the characters to start moving around I never get kicked out. I think it has something to do with populating the town with characters that are tasks elsewhere. It might take a moment for that to happen and if you tap before it does it crashes the game. It was really getting frustrating, but I haven’t had a problem since I started giving them a few seconds before tapping.

    • I do that just as a standard as an overload of information tends to crash electronics. But good advice, thanks 😉

  9. I was surprised to see them bring us Mindy, but it was a very happy surprise. I am a true nerd, and as such I love call backs to obscure characters from many years ago! One of the things that makes this game so much fun is that they have over twenty years of shows to take inspiration from and they use that to the fullest. You never know what little thing from the past they will include next.

    • This is why I adore the WDTCF…so many items were there for mere seconds and are in our game. There is just so much stuff, this game could go for ages. 😉
