Casino Event 101: Homer’s House of Cards

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Viva Las Springfield!  Vegas has arrived in Springfield and nothing says Vegas like rigged games of chance! Homer’s House of Cards is a place where you can experience first hand one of those rigged games of chance…as you try your luck in the TSTO’s card game!

So what can you win at Homer’s House of Cards?  How do you win?  How do you cheat?  Let’s take a look at all those questions and more as we break down the details of Homer’s House of Cards….

Tapped_Out_Homer's_House_of_Cards

You guys know the drill by now…we’ll start with the basics

How Do I Unlock Homer’s House of Cards?

Homer’s House of Cards will unlock, for FREE, once you reach Have a Vice Day Pt. 10. Mr. Burns starts this off.  After you’ve placed and built the house of cards, you’ll need to send Homer on a 1hr task.  Once you’ve completed that, Homer will then start Stacking the Deck.  Once that starts you’ll be able to actually place Cards.

How Do I Use Homer’s House of Cards?

To “gamble” at the den you’ll need Tokens.  They look like this…

ico_casino_gametoken_lg

Once you have at least 1 Token you can use it at Homer’s…Just like at Moe’s & Cletus’.

How Do I Earn Tokens?

Tokens will randomly pop out of Gamblers as you tap them..

gambler03_front_walk_image_4

You can also earn Tokens when you complete tasks at Burns’ Casino…1 token/4hrs per character that has a task there.

Additionally you can earn Tokens by upping your VIP Card Level.   And you can earn them via the Daily Challenges.

And of course you can buy them for donuts in the store…I DO NOT recommend buying them.  You can earn Tokens pretty easily, DO NOT waste your donuts on them in the store.

ico_casino_gametoken_pack03_lg ico_casino_gametoken_pack02_lg

So What Happens Once I Have A Token?

Well…you tap on Homer’s House of Cards and it’ll bring up the card game…

2016-03-13 20.57.06

And this is basically the easiest of the 3 games…just pick 5 cards.  Depending no what cards to pick that’ll determine your hand.

So How Do You Win?

2016-03-13 20.57.19

Simple…pick 5 cards to make a hand.  Depending on what your hand is it’ll determine if you win.  So get a pair, 3 of a kind, Royal Flush etc…

Easiest thing…just pick 5 cards and see what pops up…

Simple right? 🙂

What Can I Win?

For Act 2…you can win Green Chips & Crafting Currency.  Every hand is a winner, so even when you lose you’ll still win something.

Here are the Card payouts:

2016-03-13 20.56.56

You can also randomly earn crafting currency when you win (or lose).  Occasionally you’ll see crafting currency popup as a prize in addition to the Chips…

The bonus crafting payout is random and doesn’t always happen.  There’s no special trick to getting crafting currency to popup.

What Happens When I Lose?

2016-03-13 20.57.39

If you lose at Homer’s’ you’re still a winner!  Sorta… If you lose you’ll win a courtesy chip.

ico_casino_courtesychip_lg

During Act 2 you can trade courtesy chips in for chips via the crafting menu.  10 courtesy chips = 100 ico_casino_greenchip_lg.  (This payout will change to Act 3 currency…so you’ll earn 100 Act 3 currency for 10 courtesy chips when Act 3 hits)

When you lose you’ll also occasionally get a crafting payout, just like when you win.

The Game Said Something About Cheating, How Do I Cheat?

2016-03-13 21.26.28

First, let me say this…cheating is random.  There is nothing you can do to get it to popup.  It’s completely random.  So don’t think you can do something to cheat…you can’t.  It’ll just popup from time to time.

Now when you draw a Jack and an Ace with no other winning combination, you’ll get a popup that says Homer’s having Blackjack Flashbacks.  At this point you’ll see skyfinger pointing to the deck of cards.. (Edit I have had this popup with an Ace and Jack but it held the Ace and 3 instead of the Jack..so it could vary…)

2016-03-13 21.26.34

Once you tap the deckthe other 3 cards you drew (beyond the Jack and Ace) will be removed from the table.  And you’ll basically keep tapping the deck to redraw those three cards…

2016-03-13 21.26.38

When this happens you’ll have successfully cheated and earned 400 chips…

2016-03-13 21.26.52

The second cheat pops up every once in a while and it’s not really a cheat..just something Homer’s made up…it’s called a Royal Sampler. (Edit…Yes, the title is from Stonecutters (Royal Sampler) what I’m indicating here is that the pattern of cards you get when it’s declared that you’ve won it has been different. For example below you see Ace, Jack, 9, 4, 3.  I’ve also gotten it with 10, 9, 4, 3, 2. That’s what I mean with random…)

2016-03-13 21.28.00

Really it’s just random cards you get and Homer declares you got the Royal Sampler.

Tips for Selecting Cards…

So I’ve tried a bunch of different ways to pick cards, but what I found is when you do a “W” pattern, that seems to have the most success (at least for me)…

2016-03-13 20.57.59

So it looks like this…and the next card to pick to complete the 5 is the one in the top right…(And this this hand resulted in a Royal Flush)

And finally…

Now my personal take on it?  It’s all random.  But personally…if you’re looking to enhance your chip payout/token spent..play the slots.  It’s still the best return in the game.  (at least from my experience)

And there you have it…the details on Homer’s House of Cards!

What are your thoughts on the House of Cards?  Having success with the cards?  Or do you prefer the slots or dice?  Enjoying the “winning”?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Hello, ive looked for an answer to my question but cant seem to find it. If its right in my face im sorry. Ive been with all act 2 prizes for a couple od days and was figuring on finishing the questline later. Well time has gotten away from me and its now 1 day 13h away from act 3 and im just starting have a vice day pt 8. Do i need to finish this questline before act 3 hits so i will definitely get homers house of cards? Thank you for your help.

  2. “if you’re looking to enhance your chip payout/token spent..play the slots. It’s still the best return in the game. (at least from my experience)”

When I play the slots, I average 70-75 chips; when I play the dice, I average 75 – 120. I played 5 or 9 150 times and averaged 120, so I’m pretty confident in those numbers. Play 5. Trust me. 😉

  3. @sailor thanks just saw it Relive old memories. 6h

  4. I have found that doing three and two (top and bottom) often has decent payouts. Have gotten four of a kind often. Will try the W pattern.

  5. “During Act 2 you can trade courtesy chips in for chips via the crafting menu. 10 courtesy chips = 100 ico_casino_greenchip_lg. (This payout will change to Act 3 currency…so you’ll earn 100 Act 3 currency for 10 courtesy chips when Act 2 hits) ”
shouldn’t this day when act 3 hits, I’ve been saving my courtesy chips for act three since I’ve got all act 2 prizes should I be reading them in now then or wait for act three?

  6. I don’t get how to earn the black Players Club cards. I have +100kchips, have earned all Act 1 & 2 prizes but still am not really earning these cards. I’m only up to level 10 and the top is 20? I don’t see how I will make it!

  7. Does the house of cards give player points when placed? I am 10 points from receiving 3750 in coins and I want to wait until act three starts to claim them, but I would like to place the house of cards.

  8. I don’t know, I find I earn more “straight” wins at slots, more crafting items at dice, and not sure about cards yet. But I’m focusing on bonuts now, so aren’t spending any tokens.

  9. Thanks for the info, very helpful.
Now, where can I get a real deck of cards like this – these are awesome and would be great for poker night.

  10. Hi! Is there a list somewhere about what random players have extra tasks along casino row? I knew about Quimby going to the Brittanica but just now saw Hibberts Job on this stupendous post. Thanks!!

  11.
”Now my personal take on it? It’s all random. But personally…if you’re looking to enhance your chip payout/token spent..play the slots. It’s still the best return in the game. (at least from my experience)”
Someone on the EA forums mentioned that if you play dice and you repeatedly pick 7, you nearly always win 110 chips, and the times you lose are offset by the times you get to cheat. I’ve tested this out, and my chip earning rate is far better than the slots. It doesn’t work quite the same if you change to other numbers.

    • I tried it too and it didn’t work out so well for me. Still earned way more at the slots…so I do think it’s different for every game.

    • Weirdly, I seem to win and cheat more on slots. I rotate 5, 7, and 9 (combining advice from here for some variety) for dice, and I switch games whenever I lose at one. And I end up having much shorter run at dice, and rarely ever get chances to cheat. And if I do, it’s always the one where you change your number. I’ve only gotten the trick dice cheat once throughout the entire event.

    • Ive tried it and 7 comes up least,

  12. From my observations the average payout per token spent is similar for all three games, so it does not really matter much from the point of view of the payout which one you choose. Cletus’ game is nice if you are after specific payout amount (like I’m trying now to to overshoot the 8500 chips 🙂 ). As someone already noticed, betting 7 gives you like 75% chance of win in the dice game (plus a few percent chance of cheat for 400 chips) – so the average payout is about 100 chips/token, very close to what I got in Moe’s after running 100 games. I expect it to be the same for the Homer’s game.

Oh, and in the card game it does not really matter which cards you pick: the game decides what you’ll get in the moment you enter it, so if it decided you should get a royal flush, you’ll get it regardless which cards you pick…

  13. I’m very close to earning all act 2 prizes, while using almost no gold tokens on games. I think I have over 400 tokens. I can do some real testing of the gaming payouts with a large enough sample, maybe 50 attempts of each game, see what has the highest payout. Unless someone has already done that? I know Alissa would say “don’t over think it and just play” but we are addicts after all. I’m a geek when it comes to numbers & statistical analysis and it would be fun to know the odds. 😛

  14. Confused why you say this is the easiest of the 3 games.. I mean i get they’re all super easy, but at Moes you just pull a lever, how’s that not easier?
Was reeeaaallyy hoping for a blackjack game. I get that’d be a bit of a hefty gaming mechanic, and im sure a lot of people on here would complain, especially if already finding any of these games at all complicated. But it would really be nice to have an actual game instead of just tapping one time, four times, or five times…

    • Pulling a lever requires you to slide your finger…this is just tapping 😉

    • I find slots the least stressful, because I don’t have to take any responsibility whatsoever – I don’t have to feel that “darn, should picked the other number/card” feeling! It’s all completely out of my hands.

(Now, that said, I suspect that, at least with the cards, it doesn’t matter which actual cards you tap on…I suspect that it, like Sideshow You, “knows” what it wants you to see and is going to show that to you and the “choosing” is really merely ilusion. But, even if I know that, I sill can’t stifle that primal reaction.)

  15. Can we earn tickets yet?
I’ve earned some via players card or whatever.
    Are these in Act 3?

  16. Haha! My first thought when I looked at the card game payout table was “What, no Royal Sampler?”

  17. Cool. Earning chips is easy, but I would love some more crafting currency! Do you know which is the best game for me to play when Act 3 rolls out to get the most currency as I’m really behind on crafting!

    Thanks!

  18. Thankfully you don’t need to know anything about gambling. I have no idea what a royal flush is.

      Me too 🃏 ♣ ♠ 🙂

      • Lol. I’m not even sure I know how to play Go Fish. I used to be the Slap Jack King.

        • I never heard of slap jack, so the nearest thing that pops up in my brain index is……..flapjack, chocolate covered flapjack with chocolate chips…….mmmmmmmm
          now everybody wants a snack
          🍨 🍧 🍦 🍩 🍰 🍪 🍫 🍬 🍕 🍟 🍔 🍮 🍴 🍞 🍚 🍛 🍲 🍍 🍓 🍒 🍐 🍎 🍌 🍏 🍇 🍡 🍣 🍱 🙂

          • Close but not quite. You flip over cards taking turns until Jack comes up then you try to slap their hand before they can pull it away. If you get them you get the discard pile. Whoever has the most by the end of the deck wins

    • Probably something to do with the Queen flushing her toilet 😛

  19. I have to disagree with slots being the best payout. I have a running spreadsheet where I kept track of 70 slot pulls this far and 70 dice rolls thus far only choosing 5 or 9 as my number.

My data I compiled as 7 sets of 10 tries each, out of 7 sets dice paid more 6 times.

    70 dice rolls = 9000 chips average 1285.6 per 10 or 129 per roll.

    70 slot pulls = 6425 chips average 917.8 per 10 or 92 per pull.

Does anyone have any contradicting data? I will compile more info during act 3, but since I have all Act 2 prizes my coins are being saved until act 3 where I hope to maximize my free donut output. Excel data available upon request, I have not been tracking crafting payouts but since you get more 0 payout rolls in dice I believe you get more crafting materials as well. I will track that in my next experiment.

    • I haven’t really been recording things, but my strategy just to make sure I hit each game a fair amount of times before the event ends is to rotate games whenever I lose at one. Between slots and dice, I have much longer winning runs at the slots, and seem to get a chance to cheat at least once during each run.

On dice I rotate picking 5, 9, and 7, and probably only get 3-5 rounds in before I lose and switch back to slots, and my game rarely ever gives me a chance to cheat at dice. When it does, I’ve also noticed it usually has me change my number, and I’ve only gotten the trick dice cheat once.

  20. Since I forget with the last two games, is placing these buildings worth Player Club points?

I’m just really close to getting the next prize (a bunch of chips), and since I’ve got all the Act 2 prizes, I’m trying not to level up in the Players Club until Act 3 starts so that I get those chips as blue chips instead of green. So if placing Homer’s game gives me points, I’m probably going to wait a few days before placing it.

  21. This seems like the worst of the games so far since the only way to get the 400 chips is by cheating.

  22. Also, I wish it had been blackjack, that may have got me spending more tokens
    🃏 ♠ ♦ ♣ ♥ 🃏 🙂

  23. Like a lot of other players have said, I’m saving tokens for the next act,

Interesting to see that the deck of cards comes from Burns’ Casino same as the cup at Moe’s slot machine, ….like they created the games to be in the casino, and Gaming Moe’s & Homer’s House of Cards were thought of afterwards
    🃏 🎰 🎲 🎲 🙂

    • So you can save tokens for the next act? Perfect!

    • I was thinking it was to make it look as though Moe and Homer had “borrowed” them from Burns’ Casino to use in their own.

    • Never understood the saving tokens for next act thing. I’d rather get my bonuts now 😀 Also, chances are they are adding a third currency to the mix, so if you are like me, and still trying to craft the Spruce Moose, that’s 1/3rd less chance of getting the materials needed. Just my take on it I guess.

      • Act 3…the chips will change to blue and show tickets will start to fall from gamblers and games. Tokens will still be used though.

        • Yeah, its just the whole saving tokens til the next act I don’t get, I want my bonuts now lol Also as I mentioned still working on Spruce Moose (crafted other stuff so resources depleated a bit) and figured it’d be more attainable this act.

          • For me, I’m just not worried about Bonuts at all. The game’s given us multiple ways to earn free donuts in general, so I just count on those for donuts.

I’d rather save up my tokens because I care more about each act’s prizes, and having more tokens to start act 3 with means more tokens to play casino games and get a boost in chips with.

Otherwise, I’d be using up all my tokens and start out with less chances to win chips when act 3 starts.

  24. In my limited experience, I don’t think it’s random at all. Just like with the slots and the scratch off tickets at the Kwik-E-Mart, a certain set of outcomes are programmed in, and then the game scrolls through those outcomes. For example, on my second draw of cards, I picked the five furthest to the left, and they came up as a Royal Flush. After I drew the first three, I knew exactly what the next two would be, and I’m fairly confident that I could have picked any two cards on the board, and they would have been the same two cards to complete the Flush.

Part of me wishes these games of chance really were games of chance, and that they operated like real slots or real card games…but if they did that, they wouldn’t pay out the game currency nearly enough, which would defeat the point of having them. So it’s a Catch-22, I suppose.

    • I had a royal flush started and picked my last 2 cards not off of the pattern i had been previously going and did not get the royal flush. It is predetermined based on the game algorithms when you open up TSTO…which is why hard closing and restart will usually result in resetting those algorithms and changing your payouts. However, when I say random I mean you don’t know what you’re going to get and there’s no way to control what you’re going to get. As in how you play. In other words, don’t over think it…just play

    • You got it perfectly right. The payout for chips MUST be balanced for the player to be able to complete the act and the selection of cards is surely just optics – you will just get the five cards the game has already pre-determined. There are pre-set probabilities for the different payouts (Flush, 4- or 3-of-a-kind, etc.) to assure the player gets an overall score of “N” chips after a certain amount of plays and the program just selects some random cards to show you that match the computed result.

    • Playing the Craps game, I noticed a ~lot~ of 4-6-8, 5-7-9, 5-5-12, 6-6-2 rolls. The dice themselves were different ‘spotwise’ (5/1, 4/2, 3/3), but I never saw anything but a 12 after 2 5s, or 8 after 4-6.

  25. I really like the slots and think it would be great if it was left in at the end of the event to use to win donuts, money and mystery prizes!

  26. Is it still the best practice to horde your tokens if you finished all of act 2 prizes? I really don’t care about bonuts. I still haven’t leveled up to level three but I only have three spaces to go to get there.

    • I’d recommend holding them. I felt the fool wasting my tokens at the end of act 1 trying to level up crafting so I could start collecting martini glass only to find out they didn’t start dropping till act 2.

And you really don’t miss out on bonuts, you just postpone them till after act 3. You’ll have a head start on act 3 and will get that last prize that much faster and will start getting bonuts sooner and get more rounds in.

  27. Aafreen Inayat

I really don’t care for the Crafting or Crafting Currency. I’ve reached Level 3 Crafting days ago, and I’m just letting all the CC accumulate. I’ll see near the end of the event if there is anything I want to craft….

So all I’m interested in is the chips, which I need to 1) win all the Act 3 prizes asap + 2) to get into Bonus Donuts mode …… And I didn’t note down the results, but I now firmly believe that Cletus’ Dice Den is the best option to earn chips with the best turnover

Previously, I thought Gaming Moe’s was the best (and I posted that on this blog earlier) , but I noticed that more often than not, I was getting symbol matches in pairs (not in 3s) and even if you get 2 Barneys, you only get 60 chips. So more often than not, I was winning less than 100 chips at Moe’s on each try ……… BUT when you play Cletus’ Dice Den and keep selecting the number 7 over & over again, you win most of the time, and that’s 110 chips per token

I’m hoarding the tokens now & not playing anymore games ….. Will see if Act III changes any winning odds in the games

  28. The w pattern didn’t really work for me. Waiting to really try it out in act 3. Hoarding chips for now. I hope they don’t change that in act 3!!

  29. The Royal Sampler was one of Homer’s winning hands when he played poker as the Chosen One in the Stonecutters episode.

    • Yes that’s where the name came from. But the pattern isn’t set. In the sample screenshot I posted i got it with an Ace, Jack, 9, 4, 3. I’ve also gotten it with a 10, 9, 4, 3, 2. Which is what I was going for with the Random numbers…

  30. Unless I’m mistaken wasn’t the royal sampler a hand created by Carl to ensure that homer would win during the stonecutters episode.
