It’s Chili Cook-Off time in Springfield! Gather up those Insanity Peppers and get ready to lose your mind, as we take a journey with the residents of our pocket-sized Springfields for the hottest chili known to man!
As S8:E9,“El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer (The Mysterious Voyage of Homer)” taught us, Insanity Peppers will make you go, well, insane! And you too can make Homer go insane once you’ve finished the prize track for Homer’s Chiliad, and placed the Insanity Cauldron. You’ll then be able to launch…Insanity Mode!
Let’s breakdown this mini turtle tappin’ game and see how insane it makes you….
As mentioned above, once you’ve finished the prize track (unlocked Wiggum’s Chili tent), you’ll be able to launch Insanity Mode! (initially triggered via the questline, so keep following the walkthrough to get it to trigger for you)
Insanity mode at the Cauldron, for now, this will award you game currency (Pills for SH…for now) for playing a new game. The game is tapping as many tortoises as you can in 30 seconds.
Let’s start with the basics…
How Do I Start Insanity Mode?
When ready, you’ll see a chili 
floating over the cauldron, tap on it (and make sure Homer is free)…
Before you hit start, make sure you’re ready to play. This will take you into a game screen (similar to Where’s Maggie) and you won’t be able to do anything else until the game is up. So be sure you’re ready to tap!
Once you hit start you’ll start the game and the instructions screen will popup:
How Do I Play?
Simple, you’ll have 30 seconds to tap as many tortoises as you can….so just search your Springfield for them and tap, tap tap. (they will ONLY appear when you’re inside the game…you won’t see them any other time)
What Can I Win?
For now the prize awarded after EVERY attempt…is Pharmaceuticals for Springfield Heights…
It looks like you get 1 pill for every 5 Tortoises tapped.
Pharmaceuticals will only pay out at the Cauldron until June 22nd…so get em while they’re around!
What Else Can I Win?
Similar to the Rocket Ship there are other prizes you can win in the Insanity Game. These prizes are decorations for Springfield.
Here’s a look at what else you can win (in order of how frequently they’ll appear):
Hieroglyphic Wall (most common)
Pumpkin Patch (common)
Cane Field (rare)
Lightup Elder God (rarest) This one will pay out a 1% bonus on all cash and XP.
Of course you won’t always receive an additional prize. In fact, more often than not you’ll get nothing. So don’t be bummed if your game comes back empty handed….
How Often Can I Play Insanity Mode?
You can play Insanity Mode every 8hrs…but you’ll need Homer free to play!
Will Insanity Mode Be Around After Homer’s Chiliad is over?
Yes, as long as you’ve unlocked it you can continue to play after the event is over. Keep in mind that the Pharmaceuticals earned for playing will only be around until June 22nd.

Finally deleted the tsto app. Hasn’t worked for android in a good while. Every time I get in the app and I click on something it just says no data found. Been like this for a while. Was finally sick of it taking up space so just deleted it.

Did you accidentally Clear Data instead of Clear Cache for TSTO? Nevertheless if you have made up your mind, all the best to your new found time that you can use! I am still hopelessly stuck in the game.
I’ve play once, and as the write-up states, I got 14 as well. granted I was at work and I found that I had to double tap them. The first tap froze them in place, and the second tap was what did it.
I have a lot of the walls, but I dont mind stocking up on them. Didn’t get a prize on my first try.
Homer’s on a darn 12 hr task right now, so I may speed it up with donuts when the cauldron is available again.
I am hoping for the pumpkin patch, cane field and the Lightup Elder God!! I would love to get multiples of those! always trying to get new content.. especially now that I am level 80.
They’re tortoises, not turtles. All I know is that tortoises are basically the land-based ones, but that’s all I’ve learned at the moment. I see that you do have it written as tortoise in most spots (just not at the crucial beginning). I made this mistake, too. All my image files are labeled “turtle” and that’s not going to change. lol. But I changed the text. (Blog/link/same kind of article/yours is better/except mine has a chart).

So, basically, according to Wikipedia, all tortoises are turtles, in a generic, American point of view. Then I thought, well, looking up about their differences, coming across this article by Wikipedia and rubbing it to my face sounds like something simp7fan would do 😛, then I didn’t comment at all about it.
On a side note, I didn’t know about Terrapins (why did autocorrect change it to capital T?). Makes sense now to me, though, since in Portuguese we have tartarugas, jabutis and cágados. I know tartarugas are turtles… Not sure about the other two.
Oh, and I have a stuffed little turtle from Finding Nemo. Not related, just wanted to share. And a stuffed Toothless, too. But that’s even less related. Lol.

The way things are stated around the internet you’d think there was some sort of consensus about this stuff… We’re still in the Wild West!! (EA help us.) I’d never figured out what a terrapin was (though I’d heard of it before) but it sounds like they’re turtles over yonder somewheres, maybe Africa.

Terrapins was probably capitalized because it’s a term most commonly used in the States by fans of the University of Maryland Terrapins.
There’s a sports team called the Terrapins, so I’m guessing that’s why autocorrect wanted to capitalize it for you. (Sad to say, I’m sure there are more people in the U.S. familiar with it as a team name, than with what the word actually means.)
I understand that the teenage mutant ninja turtles are actually intended to have evolved from red ear sliders. I hope the movie doesnt spur people to start buying as most of them will never see it through. My red ear slider has been with me for last 25 years and she is still going strong.
When the TMNT were first on in the UK they were hero turtles not ninja turtles … too violent a name apparently.
There was definitely a craze over here which lead to a lot of dumped turtles which includes a red eared slider who has been happily living in the ponds near me for years and years. A while ago the BBC came down to do a report on the turtle for a programme called Springwatch but it didn’t make an appearance for the camera 🐢
Oh I am glad that slider near you is alive , kicking and famous! These sliders are the most dumped pets. The novelty wears off very soon for most people and the upkeep can be tiring.

Yes they sure do. But that species of tortoise are really farmed for that purpose. Poor torts. I had it before as a Boy. Recently I had crocodile soup during a buffet and it reminded me of the taste of tort soup. They do taste similar. The show is from Taiwan and feature a pair of hosts going all over the world to seek nice and also unique food. In Cambodia, they show street foods which the locals like to eat. This includes scorpians, tarantulas, and poor roasted turtles. The turtle is the common red ear slider.

I seem to be the only one who doesn’t mind the grinding I guess. But I only enjoy it when I have a goal to grind to.
Initially my goal was to get to one billion REV. So I grinded and was my fourth neighbour to get there. Then my goal was to be the top of my leaderboard and not be fourth. So I grinded and was at the top at 1.35 billion REV. But then my neighbour Simp7fan posted I was second on his leaderboard and introduced me to Pedrozumba. Pedrozumba was at 1.680 billion REV and pushed me down to second when he became my neighbour. So I’ve been grinding again, and just a couple hours ago I hit 1.682 billion REV and am again on top of my leaderboard. Now I need Pedrozumba to start grinding again or to find another neighbour with a higher REV to get me motivated to continue grinding there.
Craziest of all, did so without spending a single donut. Don’t have any of those premium items that really help your REV soar. Instead, I have over 300 classy fountains, 240 money trees, 200 fancy gold trees, 150 fancy fences, 150 fancy trees, 75 fancy walls, 50 classic gardens, and exactly 15 polo fields.
But I agree, need more SH land so I can place all these decor items. Also need another decoration you can buy with the tablets from the Institue of Technology. Having over 300 classy fountains is not ideal.
Oh, awesome idea: an exchange desk, where you can convert items for the next one up:

I’m just around 1.2 billion. One of my neighbors is at exactly 2 billion, which is a very distinct number. I don’t feel so far away from your REV, but theirs…..
i also have a neighbor exactly at 2 billion… my guess is that is where springfield heights REV caps for now.
I don’t see why it would cap there, but it’s a possibility. Maybe it was more like how I set out to hit exactly 1 billion, before moving on. They might have flew right past 1 billion and wanted to hit the arbitrary goal of 2 billion exactly.

Don’t want to depress you but I’m currently at 3.92 billion (no donuts used, pure freemium). I also have several neighbours over 3 billion.
Having upgraded all my SH buildings to maximum I now just collect Furniture, Lattes and Mats until I max out and then exchange them for Jet Skis, Polo Fields and Solar Panels respectively. This gives me the best return. Send me a friend request if you want to add me to your leaderboard.

I’m getting a little nervous about those pills…I keep dismissing daily tasks that earn them and I haven’t been willing to invest the huge sums of cash needed to make them, but I’m beginning to feel like the game is sending us a message that we’ll need a bunch of them down the road for something. Unfortunately, my pill supply is pretty low (and my yoga mat supply is even lower…I kinda wish I had spent time doing Springfield Heights crafting after I finished the rail yard tasks last week. 🙁

I don’t know. Looks like if I load the emoji on the actual site I get something more closely resembling what you describe. If I view it on the WordPress Reader it looks very angry/mad. I assume that the one you use on your tablet or whatever might even look different than both of those.
I have a lot of trouble picking an emoji that actually shows up as intended. I just roll the dice and hope for the best. Fear can look like anger when you show your teeth…depending on how animalistic I’m feeling. 😼

Never thought of doing that, guess I was a fool for designing the majority of my town lol too many roads, only getting 17 turtles each time.
I didn’t have roads anyway, except for a small square in front of my housing area which is where all the characters end up congregating. This was particularly useful before the top-left button started taking you to completed tasks, but even now with my IRS at full power it means a single tap gets 80% of my tasks finished all at once.
Without roads, I’m hitting 60 – 70 each time easily.
I’ve removed most of my roads and so far (once) it appears to hav helped.
I’ve been a fool for many things – having too many roads is WAY down at the bottom of the list.
Definitely not a fool for that. I get a lot of pleasure out of the design of my little Springfield (even if it’s not super fancy or anything) and I’m not about to start removing roads just to get more turtles (or for an event, as some have suggested doing previously). My roads are almost all visible (not hidden in canyons of buildings), and, if it takes a bit more scrolling to get around them, so be it. If I’m that desperate for a few more pills, I’ll go grind them out myself!
Even with the events being helped by having almost no roads…well, I could also have all buildings scrunched up next to each other for easy rent collection, too. I figure, meh, not worth it to play a sad little eye sore.
I just tried to switch my roads to dirt and I didn’t even make it halfway… There’s just no way I could switch these temporarily. Good news is that the most pills one can win are 10 (even if you tap 100 turtles it doesn’t increase), which is 45 turtles. I’m usually around the 25 turtles range which gets me about 6 pills. So I don’t get 4 more pills. Big whup! 😉

I’ve been consistently in the 30s so far. I suspect which device (or the size of the screen) matters, as does how many roads you have and/or how large your town is.
Size matters?
Well….in *this* case, it might, lol. I definitely get a different amount of town showing when I’m all the way zoomed out on my 9″ iPad, versus all the way zoomed out on my 7″ Kindle.
It seems like the more I play, the better I get at it. So far, I’ve gotten:
38 (8 pills, no bonus),
36 (7 pills, no bonus),
34 (7 pills, no bonus),
52 (10 pills, no bonus),
48 (10 pills, no bonus),
54 (11 pills, no bonus)
I’m hoping with more attempts, I can approach the 69 and eventually over 100 reported by Brooders and Bunty respectively. Also, it would be nice to get a bonus item.
I wonder how it’ll work after the date, like, the more tortoises you tap, the more chances you get at a prize?

Did you listen to the people saying that you don’t have to do the update because it was optional? Hah!! The game is forcing us to earn SH currency, here in Insanity Mode or the Daily Challenges, or who knows where next. Yeah, I’m tired of it, too. I signed up to play Tapped Out, not EA’s pet project called Springfield Heights. I thought they had learned their lesson from creating Krustyland and Squidport….

I figured it out- you have to make the 5 pills after unlocking the building, and tip if you want to get a lot of turtles-store all the roads except for one, all the tirtles spawn there and i can reliably get 150+ turtles at a time, getting max money at $2000 or 10 pills

I’m kind of glad that they brought back the hieroglyph wall even though it seems pretty random. I started playing right around the time they brought the Stonecutter’s stuff back to the store and was only able to get a couple sections of the wall since I had so little in game cash at the time.

PUMPKIN PATCHES?!?! That’s the one thing I wanted that we didn’t get at Halloween for my farm area!!! Nice. Have lots of everything else, it’d be pretty cool to get the Elder God though, didn’t buy him at Halloween since we got a free balloon that was almost identical.
Also, I finished up the questline for the Space Coyote and his visual tasks kinda suck 🙁 you need Homer for one and the other one is just his big floating head. He’s unfortunately going to have the same fate as SLH, one of my favourite characters who’s never seen 🙁

I don’t know what else I’d want animated (or that you want) but I’d actually just like him roaming around town like an NPC. I hope we get that new feature where we can hold off on characters from getting assigned (by the UEO, for example), then I’d just leave him there unless I want him to bite Homer’s leg.
Actually, if that floating head would have a walk mode then I’d just keep him on that 24/7. What I mean is, how we “transforms” from the standing coyote and becomes the head, then after a minute or two of being a head he does that in reverse and walks around for a minute or two before becoming a head again. Repeat for 4 hours.
Yes!! An animated job for him to walk around transforming into the weird psychedelic version and back to normal again would be perfect! As it is the floating head doesn’t really appeal to me 🙁
Yeah, someone else was all excited over the head, but then I got him and sent him on this job and… I like how David put him in the chili pot. That will be how I make that fun, by trying to get his head into weird spots. 😀

I’ve been wanting more pharmaceuticals but didn’t want to grind for them so I love that I can earn them from this game. I wish it was a permanent feature. Or if they switched it up every few weeks, giving you different SH currency. I guess that would defeat the purpose of the Googolplex. I did get one cane field, too. I really don’t need any more hieroglyphic walls. I have a lot in my town and I think a hundred or more in inventory. Oh, and my record is 55. 🐢🙂
I don’t think it defeats the point. Level 60 is permanent, while Insanity Mode is only available to those of us who played during this time. They’re probably complimentary to each other if anything.
Yes, I’ve thought about that. But if you’re not playing right now, you’ll never get to level 60…’cause, ya know, the game ending and whatnot. 😉

I am fairly sure my bonus prize popped up when i had tapped over 100 tortoises total. (For me this was after 3 insanity mode game because i tapped quickly)
I tapped 17 and got it..
My 1st game I managed 30 & got a pumpkin patch. I reckon it’s pretty random….💜X

The 2nd time I played it, I got 70. But it was because of a glitch. I went all over the screen tapping away and nothing happened. I was getting frustrated. Moved everywhere in Springfield, saw bunches of them, tapped, and nothing. And this went on for far longer than 30 seconds. For some reason, the game was frozen.
All of a sudden, the timer kicked in, and it was nonstop exploding (the sound from all the tortoises I tapped earlier. And by the time I realized what was going, time ran out.
I really like this! I wanted more of all of those decorations, so I’m happy! 🙂
