It’s Chili Cook-Off time in Springfield! Gather up those Insanity Peppers and get ready to lose your mind, as we take a journey with the residents of our pocket-sized Springfields for the hottest chili known to man!
As S8:E9,“El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer (The Mysterious Voyage of Homer)” taught us, Insanity Peppers will make you go, well, insane! And you too can make Homer go insane once you’ve finished the prize track for Homer’s Chiliad, and placed the Insanity Cauldron. You’ll then be able to launch…Insanity Mode!
Let’s breakdown this mini turtle tappin’ game and see how insane it makes you….
As mentioned above, once you’ve finished the prize track (unlocked Wiggum’s Chili tent), you’ll be able to launch Insanity Mode! (initially triggered via the questline, so keep following the walkthrough to get it to trigger for you)
Insanity mode at the Cauldron, for now, this will award you game currency (Pills for SH…for now) for playing a new game. The game is tapping as many tortoises as you can in 30 seconds.
Let’s start with the basics…
How Do I Start Insanity Mode?
When ready, you’ll see a chili 
floating over the cauldron, tap on it (and make sure Homer is free)…
Before you hit start, make sure you’re ready to play. This will take you into a game screen (similar to Where’s Maggie) and you won’t be able to do anything else until the game is up. So be sure you’re ready to tap!
Once you hit start you’ll start the game and the instructions screen will popup:
How Do I Play?
Simple, you’ll have 30 seconds to tap as many tortoises as you can….so just search your Springfield for them and tap, tap tap. (they will ONLY appear when you’re inside the game…you won’t see them any other time)
What Can I Win?
For now the prize awarded after EVERY attempt…is Pharmaceuticals for Springfield Heights…
It looks like you get 1 pill for every 5 Tortoises tapped.
Pharmaceuticals will only pay out at the Cauldron until June 22nd…so get em while they’re around!
What Else Can I Win?
Similar to the Rocket Ship there are other prizes you can win in the Insanity Game. These prizes are decorations for Springfield.
Here’s a look at what else you can win (in order of how frequently they’ll appear):
Hieroglyphic Wall (most common)
Pumpkin Patch (common)
Cane Field (rare)
Lightup Elder God (rarest) This one will pay out a 1% bonus on all cash and XP.
Of course you won’t always receive an additional prize. In fact, more often than not you’ll get nothing. So don’t be bummed if your game comes back empty handed….
How Often Can I Play Insanity Mode?
You can play Insanity Mode every 8hrs…but you’ll need Homer free to play!
Will Insanity Mode Be Around After Homer’s Chiliad is over?
Yes, as long as you’ve unlocked it you can continue to play after the event is over. Keep in mind that the Pharmaceuticals earned for playing will only be around until June 22nd.

Am I the only one not getting bonus items? So far, I’ve gotten:

I have bi-directional roads through my Springfield and nearly all the land, so plenty of roads. Haven’t deleted them as others have.
Haven’t gotten a single bonus item playing on my iPad 2. The only time I got a bonus item (Heiroglyphic wall) was when I played on my small Samsung Galaxy S4 phone. However, my yield of tortoises was significantly lower as I only got 14 instead of being in the 50’s. I’m going to give my iPad another two or three days and if I don’t get anything still, switch to my phone and see if that helps my odds.
I’ve been getting them Safi, so far I’ve received at least 5.
Them’s the breaks dude, the bonuses are randomly awarded… doubt it has anything to do with what device you’re playing on. I’ve only gotten one hieroglyph wall too, no other bonuses. Only one for my son as well, but it was a light up elder god.
If there’s a conclusion to be made here, it’s that you and i shouldn’t play the lottery! 😛 Heh i HAVE gotten the nuke from the space shuttle at least, though it took a really long time.

You didn’t lose it – the game actually accelerated it for you (unless you prematurely kicked your crop out to prepare to grow peppers). Didn’t you get a “collect” symbol for your corn?
Because Alissa have used the heads up that the game would do this, I planted and harvested corn in one day! 🙂

The last comment was so long I couldn’t copy it but basically said that after you’ve completed the insanity peppers you should be able to grow corn and harvested immediately but there is no instruction as to how.
I searched and searched trying to find where Alissa reported this but to no avail. I’d love to get the info on this.
That was just a one-time thing firing the event. Because the event questline had a requirement to grow a crop of peppers (and some people might really need those crops throughout the event to be able to get all the prizes), EA decided to rush the corn growing for anyone who was doing that, in order to free up those people’s farms to grow peppers. So, if you knew ahead of time that that was coming (which I did, thanks to Alissa), then all you had to do was plant corn before you got to that point in the questline and it would ripen as soon as you got there! I read about it one day before I was due to hit that part of the questline, so, pesto! – one-day corn!
However, although it’s fun to grow 90-day corn once, just for the heck of it, it’s not a good idea to plant corn in general…the return rate is horrible! You’re better off using your farm to plant almost anything else, even if you only tap a couple of times a day. (Personally, I recommend triffids and tomacco the two most worthwhile, practical crops.
Hi Sandra – thanks for your reply. I was pretty sure the answer would be something like that and I wouldn’t be getting one-day corn. 🙂 Unfortunately, for some reason after reading all the comments about it and being the crazy old lady I am, I planted the corn. However, if I can remember, I’ll charge my collider three months from now and at least get 45,000 XP points! I want to get at least one more face on my Mt. Homer before my tapping finger wears away. 🙂
Or you can just store the farm and re-place it…you’ll lose your up-front investment, but you still might be better off in the long run!

As others have said, after you were awarded the ability to grow peppers, the corn should’ve auto-completed. This was what happened for me, and i tapped on them right away to clear them. On the other hand, when the crops auto-completed in my son’s game, i left them there for a couple hours, waiting for all the characters to finish their tasks before activating the xp collider to maximize his xp gain. However, when I went back into the game a couple hours later, the completed corn was mysteriously gone. Oh well, it wasn’t really THAT much xp anyway.
The corn isn’t lost. You have collected it without noticing it.
This event completely disappeared from my game, anyone know how to fix it?
You can try an uninstalling/reinstall or it may require a contact to EA.
I see that Cletus’s farm is still producing chilis. ( I’ve already finished the prize track and can tap turtles.) Are the chilis redeemable or good for anything now?

As I said it my reply to pat, it now pays cash and XP. Like any other crop.
I unlocked the game played it once. I waited the eight hours and now when I tap on the cauldron it tells me i need to spend two donuts to play. What’s up with that? I’m loosing time here waiting for it to fix. Any suggestions?
You need Homer free. Most likely Homer isn’t free, and it’s telling you to pay donuts to free Homer.
It’s a bug – a hard close and restart fixes it.
Homer was free for me, but the game was not recognizing it. Fixed with method in thread
Hi Homer is free, re sync by going to krustyland or neighbor. If that does not work, send free Homer on short 6 sec task et . May need to re sync after. It has happened to me twice.
Love it! Already received a pumpkin patch, cane field & an LEG! I love so many of the additions (find Maggie especially), they’ve made this wannabe premium player so happy!! I’ve received at least a dozen free pretty sprinkles in the last 3 days! My grocery store is having a special 4x fuel points on gift cards right now… usually my splurging time for a $15 iTunes card lol
Hit 100 yesterday after a run of 93 to 97. Been getting 10 for all of these.
First time I finished a quest so early. I guess the 2 premiums players did help.

Nice! I still have a few more Business Centers to bring from level 4 to level 5, but I’ve been holding them off as the grind for pills and awards is just insane, plus I’ve already hit the billion dollar mark for my Springfield Heights anyway. The grind for the Business Centers are just awful compared with the other Heights buildings, but since I’ve already completed all my level 60 quests, I might as well get this over with.
How did you manage to hit 1 Bill? omg, it’s taking me forever and I’m only at 255 mill…
I unlocked the game last night, and so far I played three times. 😊 I love this game! Its so fun. And new. And refreshing. 😁 First time I got around 18 (not sure), second time 31, and just now (third time) 38 tourtoises. 😁 Its really, really fun… (At least for me it is.)
Anyway, got this wall one time and now I got pumpkin field. Which is great, because just today I watched some Halloween specials and realize how bad I want Halloween to come and for us to have new Halloween event 😁 I had none of these yet so I’m glad to collect them and make a small field eventually.
After June 22nd, will be get other rewards or pills until then and then nothing?
I think this is their way to remind us of SH… I’m working on mine right now, trying to get Ziff’s mansion. So these pills are more than welcome to come and stay. 😁

Pretty sure it’s 1 pill per four tortoises. I just got 8 for exactly 35, not 7. I’ve been as low as 21 and never gotten less than 5 either.

If you have space, just lay an area full of roads next to the cauldron, you can get 50 turtles every time easily, managed 69 so far 🙂

I reached 71 tapped turtles but have not received more than 10 pharmaceuticals at any point. I think the max pay out is 10.

Whoop whoop so excited for being able to get more cane fields as I love these. Also I don’t have any pumpkin patches so these are welcome and the hieroglyph wards are a bit pointless but could do with a few more I suppose. And the balloon has a 1% bonus so not bad.
This is great for preparing for the hopefully eventual release of more SH land! Use the chili cauldron for pills and the Googolplex for ads and statues. It’s great that these things let us bypass the 100- or 200-count limit!

About the insanity cauldron, it is ready to use, the blue line says “done” but when I tap to use it, it asks me if I am sure I want to spend 2 donuts.
I don’t get it, I could use it normally the first two times…

Is Homer free? If he’s not, that might be the cost to rush him in whatever task he’s on.
I’m having the same problem as Math, and it happens when Homer is free. I was able to play it twice (yesterday), and it has been like this since this morning.
I had same problem. Went to krusylabd to re sync. Sent Homer on short task. Maybe went again to krusyland. All fixed
This just happened to me. Both Homer and Maggie were free, but their games both gave me the same message. Not wanting to spend donuts, I just left them be and continued collecting everything that was ready. My task for today was to play Sideshow You, so I went to Kristy land. When I returned, the icons (Maggie and the pepper) were where they were supposed to be, and both mini-games were ready to play. I have no idea why it worked, but hey, at least it’s something to try.
1st try i tapped 72 turtles and received a pumpkin patch, 2nd i got 79 and no bonus item. 10 pill both times. I am guessing 10 pills is the limit?
I haven’t unlocked PharmErJohns Pharmaceuticals. Will I still get pills??

Is there any reason my game just randomly gave me almost 1,000 MB of updates? I didn’t uninstall or anything. Guess it just decided to reset itself out of nowhere. I did explode a few days ago though. *shrug*
Nope. Try fulling uninstalling tsto, restarting your device, reinstalling tsto…but only if you have an EA/origin account
It seems like it’s actually one pill for every 4 tortoises. I got 27 on my first try and 22 on the second one. I’m already above the total capacity for pharmaceuticals, by June 22nd I’ll have hundreds! It’s cool to know about the other prizes, though.
Anyway, I have a question: usually when you unlock a prize and you place it right away, you get a small amount of XP for placing it. But when I store the prize and place it later, I don’t see any XP popping out. I never had the chance to check: do we get some XP from storing the prize as well, or do we miss out on it when we do that?
It’s 1 for every 5, but it rounds. I’ve gotten 7 with 34 and 35. I also just got 24, which if it was 4 it would have yielded 6 pills…it yielded 5. Which proves the rounding…
As far as XP, you should still get the XP. Is your meter not increasing? Sometimes you don’t visually see it but the meter goes up.
I don’t know the answer to your question, but I do know this (from experience and reading a bazillion comments on this site)…when you’re awarded a prize, you should ALWAYS place it, if you possibly can. Once you place it, then you can go ahead and store it right away, if you want to, but I’ve read too many comments from people who didn’t place something, only to have it disappear and necessitate a call to EA to get the problem fixed, for me to take that chance. (I’m not saying that will always happen — I’m sure it’s more the exception than the rule — but I don’t think it’s worth taking the chance.)
I got 31 on my 1st try and 39 on my 2nd try.
Been working on getting my town organized and I have most of the SH buildings crammed together at the back of SH. I was wondering if the resorts, private islands, and ocean suites have the hidden bonus percent like the other SH buildings?

Of the “2nd generation” buildings only the Private Islands do, and those only once they reach Level 2.

I just got 70.
Yep, it was through not having roads – I just have my triple ring left over from the Wild West around the chilli cauldron and that makes it easier. Once I have ground out Springfield Heights, I’ll put my roads back, I think.
On the other hand it appears any score above 40 is disregarded for pill purposes, as I only got 10 pills.
(BTW I think it’s 1 pill per 4 tortoises – as your picture would suggest with 3 pills for 14, unless it is rounding)

Just finished the event, got 26 tortoises on my first round. Homer is eating insanity peppers. But I really need PICNIC TABLES! I wish EA would give us some, preferably for in-game cash.
OMG Yes!! the Pumpkin Patches didn’t return at Halloween, but this makes up for it, especially since they are free 😀 Same with the wall, I was only able to get one during Stonecutters, now I can finally get multiples.
I’ve been averaging 12 turtles. Mostly gotten pills. But 1 time I got a pumpkin patch with a 10 turtle tap. Really didn’t need it because I still have a bunch in storage.
Since you mentioned Where’s Maggie… is that supposed to be working? It hasn’t for me for, I don’t know– weeks now, definitely before the wild west event. No floating Maggie head, tapping on the factory does nothing. Is this a glitch, or just how it is now?

Yes. It has been like this for me since spring cleaning update. I got in touch with EA but was told to wait for email. When email arrived, it just say has your problem being solved? They said they will take it as solved and closed my case. Then they say to contact EA if there is any problem.
