It’s time to gear up for the summer games in Springfield! Gather up those participation ribbons and be prepared for the fix to be in from Fat Tony, as we journey through the wonderful world of “sports” with the residents of our pocket-sized Springfields! So bust out those donuts because Fat Tony’s got the “goods” for us to buy in a store full of sport themed premium items!
Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to buy everything because it’ll be gone soon. But don’t sweat it! That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.
Wondering if you should add any of the returning premium items to your Springfield? Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding these sport themed items to your town!
As I’ve done with recent events, and their returning items, this is more or less going to be a rundown of each item. Each item is returning (or already in Springfield) and we’ve previously written info about each. I’ll give you my quick opinion on them (let you know if it’s changed since originally posting. Or the current price changes my mind) and then link to their older posts… .

Is it Worth the Donuts: This was a pass for me in 2015 and it’s still a pass for me now. It’s just another premium building for Springfield…you’re better off saving your donuts for premium characters.

It’s a true discounted price from it’s previous price…and offers a 7.5% bonus for 50 donuts spent. That’s the best ratio we’ve seen in the game. So if you have the room and ability to place all 30…and like a good bonus %…grab these.

Contains: If you don’t already have…Jockey Bart & Furious D, Tennis Marge, Ballet Ralph, Kung Fu Comic Book Guy & Toreador Grampa
Donut Price: 75 Donuts/try
Previous Price: Tennis Marge, Kung Fu Comic Book Guy & Ballet Ralph were all freee. Jockey Bart & Furious D were 100 donuts, Toreador Grampa was 85 donuts. All are from Tap Ball 2015.
Highlights: No duplicates. So if you don’t have something you’ll possibly get it from this mystery box. The downside is..if you only want 1 item (like Jockey Bart and Furious D, for example), you could end up with the other. It’s a random chance box.
Is It Worth the Donuts?: IF you don’t have Bart & Furious D…and only them…yes. It’s a good deal for TWO premium characters. If you’re missing a bunch, I personally don’t think it’s worth it. But you’d have to take a look at each breakdown post and decide if it’s worth spending donuts for you….the only one I think is worth the donuts is the Bart/Furious D combo. Everything else is a donut pass for me…

Is It Worth the Donuts?: Whenever there’s a rebate/discount on something you guys always ask if my opinion on the character changes with the price change. 9 times out of 10, it does not. And this case is no different. Lugash still isn’t worth it to me…even with the 40 donuts you get back. I’d pass. (incidentally I do own him, but that’s because I got him during Whacking Day 2013…)

And there you have it my friends…my thoughts and the breakdown on each of the returning premium items for Springfield Games 2016!
Of course, in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do. And I can tell you that I own some of these and I’ve passed on others. But whatever you decide just remember these are limited time (Lugash will remain but the rebate will not) and will be leaving our games once the event ends. So if you’re thinking about grabbing one of these do so before they leave our games on the 16th!

A bit of advice please … I’ve had a message come up along the lines of having reached a limit of items in my town. Does this mean I won’t be able to place any future buildings/decorations? Do I have to get rid of things? I like the flag bundle but if I can’t place them without storing other items then I’ll probably give them a miss.
If you got the “congrats you’ve reached the max limit” message..then yes you’d have to store stuff. Best suggestion is go back through your down and find some flowers/trees that you can stick in inventory for now.
I got Lugash for my daughter’s town but it’s not a character I care much about for my other towns. Still might pull the trigger on the flag deal for one of my towns.
I wonder how many “kids” today understand the parody that Lugash is????

Lugash is an imitation of Russian (or Eastern European/German) gymnastics coaches. Fitting with the definition, his exaggerated accent and actions are used for comic effect. Also a bit of a parody of gymnastics in general i.e. China. Thankfully they never used him in connection with doping which would be a direct parody.

Since I was around in the 70’s and watched Nadia Comaneci in the olympics, I always associated Lugash specifically with Béla Károlyi, who was quite a character. He later defected to the US but kept many of his practices, like being verbally abusive. That’s terrible in reality, but so much fun in an animated show.

I bought a locker today (just missed torreador grandpa and Furious D) and I received Furious D from the first time. Guess I’m one of the lucky ones.
Only thing I bought was a flag bundle, since I only got a handful of them last time round, but haven’t quite made up my mind where to put them. I was thinking of the hotel that came with Nixon, looks like an international kind of place. And maybe a few at the Hall where the balloons go up – can’t remember the name. It’s “Messehalle” in german, but the translation eludes me right now. Anyhow, I already put Charcoal Briquettes French flag there, but more would mean a lot of rearranging.

Actually, the Watergate Hotel (which is what the building that came with Nixon was…guessing you’re somewhat of a young’un 😉 ) would make a very good facsimile of the United Nations, so I think putting the flags aground that would be a good call!
I didn’t have that building, so I used them around the convention center, instead.

Minus 40 donut rebate, not 40 donuts rebate. You need to drop the “s” if we’re all about pointing out mistakes. Also, math mistake, not math-mistake. Drop the “-“. Teeny tiny does not require a “-” either. You also forgot the period on the end of your sentence.

I was born in Germany, so german’s my native language, and had to learn english and french in school. And since Europe is so small, and I travel a lot, I also have a smattering of italian, spanish, icelandic and russian.
So jealous! I’m only fluent in English, although I took French through most of elementary school, and again in high school…I think I could have become semi-fluent in it had I gone somewhere for a while where I was forced to use it for daily communication. Then I took Spanish for my last year or two of high school and that just kinda messed mine up, because, after that, when I tried to think of a word in French it would come to me in Spanish instead, and vice versa, lol!
My husband took German in high school, so, when we traveled to Europe many years ago, I was able to get us around in Paris and, between the two of us, we were able to get around in Bruges (his German came in handy there as one point, when we were trying to ask someone for directions).
I’d love to be fluent in another language, but I’ve found there’s not much of a point in studying one, if there’s no one to practice with. I took a few classes in American Sign Language many, many years ago, and also tried to learn Japanese (now there’s something that’s a LOT different than the languages I’m used to) several years ago, but, in both cases, it kinda petered out when I had nobody to try to communicate with.
I guess it’s true, only practice makes perfect. It is rather easy for me to practice English, I am reading and writing here almost every day, plus at work I have to use it on a regular basis. It is harder to keep up with the other languages, but there are always books to read – a lot of free ebooks out there. And sometimes I talk at my husband in French or Italian, even though he doesn’t understand a word 🙂
I also found it helpful to switch the language while watching a DVD you already know, and have subtitles in the same language.
Doesn’t help, though, if you try to learn a new language. A few years ago I took some evening classes to learn Chinese, but that was really hard, probably like your experience with Japanese. Gave up again when after four month I still couldn’t manage much more than hello and thank you.
Well, I will say that if you hadn’t told us that English wasn’t your native language, I never would have guessed! It’s kind of embarrassing how much better some non-native English speaking folks here write in English than a lot of Americans. (Actually, from what I’ve heard (and seen) from folks I work with who live in Ireland, Ireland doesn’t do a particularly good job at training their folks to write, either. Of course, there are exceptions…some of the world’s greatest writers have come from that country!)
James Joyce, G.B. Shaw, Samuel Beckett, Oscar Wilde, Seamus Heaney, Yeats, Swift, Sterne, Sheridan; and also a few who might not be quite up to that level, but still good for a diverting hour or two: Marian Keyes, Eoin Colfer, Maeve Binchy 🙂
The best English literature class I had in high school was the semester we spent doing Joyce’s Ulysses.
I still think he doesn’t beat Thomas Mann in the run-on sentences competition 😉
Not sure about that…IIRC (and it was over 40 years ago, so…), the entire last chapter of Ulysses was one, really long sentence. Interestingly, I did Mann’s Magic Mountain with the same high school English teacher (and, more recently, re-read it for my Classics Book Group), but I don’t really remember Mann being all that prone to using run-on sentences.
Oh, he is. Maybe it sort of gets lost in translation? You should try Doktor Faustus, he can go on for pages… I always thought german authors are particularly fond of long sentences, Kant and Hesse are two other examples. Although Joyce can give them a run for their money; Proust as well, come to think of it… Ah well, there goes my theory 🙂

Actually, “40 donuts rebate is just fine grammatically, too; it just has a slightly different meaning than “40 donut rebate” [sic]. The first has an implied “as a” there; your version is providing an adjective for “rebate.” However, if you want to write it your way, you’d need to add a hyphen….it should be “40-donut rebate.”

Hyphen usage can be up for debate as it has been dropped in recent times in instances where it had been used in the past. That being said, I am certainly no English professor at Harvard.
Alissa is corrected on here constantly when she simply posts quickly and doesn’t notice a slight error or two once in awhile. That’s one of the many times she has been corrected so I thought I would say something to shed light on it in a playful manner.
Aabend wasn’t one of the people who was obnoxious about it (there have been others) but still it was a great opportunity when the person that corrected her had even more errors than they were attempting to point out.
I was hoping that all the other people reading these comments that have corrected her in the past or may try to do so in the future will maybe relax a bit and realize she is a smart woman that just doesn’t necessarily always proofread. She doesn’t need to be called out for silly small mistakes when she works her tail off providing all this information to us for nothing in return. That’s all 🙂
Aabend, it’s really interesting how many languages you know. I began to learn French when I was very young but didn’t continue to persue it. Wish I had. You’re never too old to start I guess though, right?
For those who got Gymnast Lisa separately, an additional advantage to purchasing Lugash and his gym is that you’ll get a couple of extra tasks for Gymnast Lisa, including a valuable 4-hour one! Now that she has added 4-hour and 8-hour premium tasks, thanks to Lugash, I can keep Lisa earning premium all the time, if I want to! 🙂

Already have a bunch of flags, not going to buy a bunch more. The bonus does me no good if there’s no room for them.
I have most everything else already, except some things in the bundle. Gonna pass on that, it’s not very interesting.

It seems like everyone who buys a mystery locker and has all the characters except for Furious D and Toreador Grampa is seeming to get Toreador Grampa in their locker. And if they want Furious D they are having to purchase a second locker.

Nope. I saw plenty of people post who got Furious D from the locker, even though they didn’t have Toreador Abe yet. It’s random, but probably with some varying odds attached, I would guess.
I got lucky and a 50/50 mystery locker chance got me Jockey Bart & Furious D on the first try. I had everyone else other than them & Toreador Grampa, and was really hoping to not spend my hard-earned freemium donuts on Grampa. Just too expensive for a skin, IMHO, premium paying or not.
Now trying to decide if the flag bundle is worth having less than 100 donuts for the next few weeks, in case the next event or sale hits…

Yeah, the Monorail Rail Yard reopened for the week shortly after I posted and I noticed that the last prize is 20 monorail pieces + 20(!!!) donuts.
Immediately grabbed a flag bundle at that point.
I do not have Bart the Jockey or Abe the Toreador and quite frankly, spending donuts for them would have been a waste for skins. I might get the flag bundle though.
Just to be clear, Bart the Jockey may be a skin, but he comes with Furious D, who is a full-fledged character. If one could be certain of getting that pout of the locker, 75 donuts for a premium skin AND a new character is a pretty decent deal!
Meh, Furious D still not worth it. Not a real big part of the Simpsons world.
The Olympics were supposed to last 12 days and it just ended with no warning, what happened?
I barely got half the stuff and it just ended after 5 days.

It “ends” when you finish all of the quests. I just “finished” mine as well…and can now bet on the GoKarts. So…yes…still 8 days to have the “last chance” at the Premium stuff.

If you earned the Springfield Games Cauldron plus animation, the Podium, Pin Stand (w/ Lisa skin), and Go-Kart Track (and can place bets there)… you got everything.

G’bye 200 donuts! The flags were too good to pass up since I’ve been needing to up my bonus %. And then since I was only missing Furious D & Grandpa Toreodor, I thought I’d take the 50/50 hoping for Furious D. Didn’t work out, but then what’s another 75 donuts for the sure thing? Oh well, at least I have a few more premium skins.
I bought the Lugash deal thanks to the rebate offer, and I AM SO TEMPTED to buy that golf course because I want to add it next to the one I already have it. the golf course is so small and pathetic on its own you have to have more than 1 for it to look good imo. But urgh – should I spent 125 donuts when that is the only thing I REALLY want? I don’t really need anything else in that 125 donut package.

To buy a second set of flags or not…… what to do, what to do? The extra xp would be great and very helpful for when I donut farm.

It is an interesting question, isn’t it? Spend donuts to boost your XP to get more donuts to…boost your XP some more? When does the cycle end?
Now I did buy two flag bundles and over the last few months I’ve been buying up decos in the 40-75 donut range that boost my bonus %. But the flags can be used in a variety of ways. I’ve thought about putting two on either side of the entrance to certain buildings, others have put them on the pier or I’ve heard people talking about making a sort of U.N. building. While I do want keep raising my %, I won’t buy something unless I think it fits in my town. I’ve yet to buy something for the bonus alone. Basically I think that a nice bonus is good, but it’s not the be all end all.

It’s worth noting that Lugash’s cartwheeling is one of the game’s most hilarious animations. Right up there with Moleman’s short films and French Waiter’s clumsy falls.
Gah, I’m waffling on the flags. Even I can recognize what a deal it is, but it would violate my rule of only spending donuts on characters (and, uh, two skins).
On the other hand, the debate up-thread about what character to buy next clinched it for me — Frink is my next purchase.
Lugash is awesome, but I hate that his best task “cartwheeling” imo, is not the default 4 hr task. Wouldn’t it be nice to have check boxes next to their tasks to show preference? Seems easy to me but what do I know. I really wanted the putting green, not all the other stuff. So that’s a dud. Have most of the skins from Tapball too. Still like Jasper’s “catch a fly ball” the most from that event. Grabbed the flags (felt like a no brainer). Picked up the half pipe cuz….yeah, it’s a freakin half pipe! Just need one in snow form to place next to my ski lift now 🤘.
Well after I gotten the go kart thing. This whole quest just quit n reloaded it self and now I didn’t n can’t get the last item building ?!?’ And it’s no where the 16th wtf?!?! Whyyyyy anyone know how to fix this or has happened to them too ?????
There is no last building… the last prize is the ability to bet on races at the Go-Kart track. If you’re thinking of Fatov… you earn him by collecting pins. The reload is normal and happened to everyone who completed the prize track.
Aargh! I had to buy the gym locker twice to get Furious D. Of course I got the only other character I didn’t have on the first try (Toreador Grandpa). I have the worst luck with anything random in this game. No more platinum scratchers for me!
Ditto. Could never pull a Lards Lad from 80+ mystery boxes and still waiting on a nuke from my rocket ship. Minimal payouts with platinums as well. That is why I’m passing on a 50/50 shot at Furious D or Torreador Grandpa. Means I’m payin twice, guaranteed.
You forgot one decoration, the Crisco de Springfield. It’s even mentioned in one of the speech scenes. Also, the Springfield Tire Fire is generating 2 ribbons every 4 hours

I bought two flag bundles and Lugash. I’m very pleased with the flag bundle % payout. I’m tempted to buy one or two more bundles. The flags are easy to place around town. I placed one bundle in a line along my Boardwalk, and placed the other bundle around my Springfield museum. I’m a little reluctant to buy any more bundles only because of the repetition. Though I like flags I’m no Sheldon Cooper. 😜

Personally, I’d choose Frink.
Frink and his lab was the first premium character/building combo I bought. He’s one of my favorite characters, and he has a couple of nice outdoor tasks.
I’d go with either Frink (i mean glayvin he’s aweome) or go with #2 and party with Disco Stu… it’s up to you.
Frink is a no regret purchase. You can make a pretty cool are for the techy items we get. Here’s my Frink Island.

Definitely Frink though, he has been a useful character in numerous events – plus he is fun.
I bought Lugash since I plan to gather sooner or (probably) later all premium characters – TREASURE, MINE *gollum* – so I keep a minimum stock of 250 donuts just for those bargains 😉 Oh, and rather sooner the donuts will reappear … No loss, then, even with negative critics.
Maybe I go further and buy the flags, too … hard decision for a freemium player though …

I bought the flag bundle and I love it. Right is they are flanking my medal stand but once I find the building I want to represent the UN my flags will move there. My husband bought Lugash and he really likes him so for him it was a great deal 🙂 I really liked this event but it was too short for my taste. I want more pins 🙂
I find it interesting to read everyone’s opinions because we are all so different. I really like the character/building combos and the lesser known characters so I jump on the sales. I got Lugash as soon as I saw the rebate. Thank you, Alissa for the SIBs. I look forward to reading them and checking the comments before (and sometimes after) I buy. Yikes, that would take up 1,440 squares. A new piece of land usually only grants 256 tiles. That’s a lot of land allocated towards flags.
I only bought one bundle thinking it’s just a few flags..until I got half way through placing them. Lol. The bonus is great though and they are skinny enough to fit in tight spots to hide if you must
Yeah, I agree, for one bundle, two bundles., maybe even three bundles tops. But 12 bundles? Yikes!
I’ve gone for 3 up to now and might stretch to a 4th but even a bonus % hog like me couldn’t do 12!
You can place the flags on Squidport tiles too (which is what I did with 30 of the flags). I have a lot of free space on my Squidport. I could easily place two, three, or even four more bundles of flags on my Squidport.
Yeah, I got two bundles and placed one along my Boardwalk and one in front of City Hall.
I place mine next to the monorail tracks that go on the outside of my town. Gives the riders something to look out at.
