Addicts House-Keeping: Downtime Site Clean Up, What Would YOU Like to See?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

So it looks like we’re going to have about a week or so of downtime in the game before we see Halloween launch.  There will still be stuff hitting our games this week, but it’ll be minor.  So consider this your downtime to redesign and recharge your tapping finger for the next big event!

I plan on fully taking advantage of this downtime to do some site clean up and restructuring.  So that some things we let go while we were super busy with event after event can be organized properly and some other items can be found more clearly.

So that brings me to the part where I need you and your opinion.  What would YOU like to see me work on? What areas of the site do you think need to be cleaned up and reworked so they’re easier to navigate?  What would you like to see added to the site for basic game play?  (like do you what charts about various things?  A page dedicated to certain areas of game play? etc) Let me know in the comments below and I’ll see what I can work on. Keep in mind I only have about a week or so..and I do have a full time job lol…but I’ll do my best to clean up, restructure and post whatever it is you guys would like to see!

Thanks in advance!

  1. I am starting to have warning messages about having too many buildings and decorations. I am not sure how to search the information regarding this. But I am sure many will encounter this. Maybe a simple write up on this area and what we should do. I remembered reading that we can ignore the message and even at 7000 plus items, there is still no issue.

  2. A map that is updated regularly with all of the land prices. It is hard to find a current one on the web with the correct prices. I would also love a way to calculate how much money I have left to spend for land. Maybe you could make it so we select the land pieces we don’t have and it totals it. The coding for that could be hard though so I understand if that is a no go. I’d also love a faster way to calculate how many items I need to finish Springfield Heights completely and the amount of time needed per item and as a total for all items.

    • I actually made an excel file of this for me and a coworker. I would show you how much consecutive time was needed based on how many people you were willing to send to the areas on a regular basis and where your rate limiting resource was. It also calculated the total xp you would earn from all the resource collection. It had interact able fields where you could toggle the amount of buildings for each category and you could run projections on the shortest route to 1 billion based on who you had. Took a few hours to put together but was fun… too bad I deleted it 😣 it may be in my recycle bin though… I don’t know how easy it would be for Alissa to post.

    • Spot on Simpsonsmomma. This is the one thing I’d like.

  3. The down time may give me a chance to work on Springfield height stuff, I still have $880 million to go…..

  4. Is there a way of embedding the forum or making it more accessible because it sounds great but I can’t be bothered to search for the link and do all that stuff. Yes, I’m lazy. Deal with it! LOL

And, thanks so much for all the hard work you do for this site. I have a blog and it takes a lot of effort but I’m don’t have the pressure of millions of readers (is that how much you get??), have a full time job, have a child, family and more so is inspiring!! Thank you so much
    😊

  5. Hi! I would love to see a guide about those new minigames. Sometimes I, and maybe other people too, forgot the things they give as rewards, and I think it would be nice to see all about them in just one place. I’m talking about Insanity Mode, Maggie’s minigame, that rocket’s minigame, and now the Polivac… I know the search tool you have in the site works quite well, but I think these minigames are a thing that will become bigger, maybe a new one will be introduced at Halloween or Christmas, so it would be nice to have a guide like that, and just update it when necessary. 🙂

    • I think there are other mini games/clicks as well, like the Yellow Submarine. And you can also include if a neighbor can start the task for you. I always send up my neighboreenos rockets, subs, etc. when I visit their towns. Yeah, it costs me cash, but what a nice surprise to come back to!

  6. Oh, pretty please. A list of every single thing that gives bonus percent – either cash, XP, or both, and whether visible or invisible. Sometimes, these things never say at all, or sometimes they do say originally in the store, but after you buy and or place them, you can never tell for sure again. As the game gets more and more cluttered, it’s tempting to store things, but then you can’t remember if they give bonus without a lot of trial and error.

    • Absolutely agree with you… I was going to say exactly the same thing

    • I’d love something like this. On more than one occasion I’ve discovered by happenstance that an item I had in storage for months has a bonus percentage.

    • +1

I would love to have this information in an easy to access format.

    • This is especially easy to miss when an old item becomes premium with a re-release. In the last event I eventually realized I should pull my extra Human Tubes (can’t remember what they’re actually called) from inventory because they suddenly gave a bonus. Since there isn’t an inventory category for “bonus” in the game it’d be awesome to have an updated list to check out to see what things I have stored that I should I find a place for.

    • I’ll hop on this train! 🚂

I recently nuked and have only replaced roads, buildings, the monorail, and some decos that I know give a bonus… Would love to see a list like this!

  7. I love the “springfield showoff” posts you guys do — and I’d love to see a whole area dedicated to people showing off their towns, and displaying awesome towns of all sorts. maybe it would get me off my butt to finally work on mine…!

  8. Well I don’t know if this is something you can fix, but….I seem to have a lot of issues with the TSTO Addicts web site freezing up. I use the Firefox browser on my desktop (sometimes I use the Microsoft browser). I have no problems accessing the site on my iPad. I often get script errors when I visit the site using my desktop browsers.

    • I know I have issues when i visit from my work computer, but no issues from home. Mostly because my work computer is older..and my home one is not. So that could be the issue…

Older is not necessarily a detriment.

  9. Ok so first off let me apologize for this being a bit long but I believe it’s VERY NECESSARY that it be said and I think that a lot of people will agree with what I’m going to say as my suggestion for EA and the Tapped Out Game. Now, Ill start with my minor suggestion my second however is what really has bothered me for quite sometime! Ok so first up! I have for sometime wondered why EA has never added an airport to Springfield! If you’ve been wondering the same thing, agree it would be a good addition,or whatever else I’d love to hear your opinions. EA could actually even make an entire update with it. Allowing Sprongfielders to gather items for the new airport or have missions that advance the airport as they’re completed. Now with that said, I have also been quite annoyed with one other aspect of Tapped Out. An that is the matter of Springfield Heights! The problem I have with S.Heights is the utter lack of land expansion. An even more frustrating is that even when EA adds new land expansions to regulAr Sprongfield for some unknown reason to me they still offer none in S.Heights! It baffles me! Especially because heights is so incredibly small and cramped yet you can even scroll up about ten rows worth of unavailable land just to see how much is there but for no reason available for extensions. Then to make things even more strange and aggravating EA introduces the tunnel so you can now have your train go into the Heights! Now that’d be great if there were room enough to put tracks up to travel around Heights but this is impossible considering that even if you have gained all the available land in S. Heights you still are lucky if you can even squeeze a handful of homes or whatever others building you’d like to place there! So honestly in my opinion the tunnel was a pointless addition that’s nearly useless due to the lack of land in S.Heights. I almost took it as a slap in the face!! But really, why has no land opened up in all the time it’s been there and when other expansions had been available in regular Springfield, Heights offered Absolutly nothing in expansions. I think EA is slacking lately. An if they’d stop and think for two seconds they’d realize they don’t need to keep adding expansions in Springfield if they’d just open up all those rows of land in Heights that are just sitting there. I think a lot of people would agree with me on this matter or would at least agree that it’s crossed their minds too!! An if you do well then how about letting EA know how we feel about this matter! No doubt we all love the game but c’mon really? It’s gotten to the point where EA needs to explain what this issue is and why this problem exists at all. Thank You, An maybe sooner than later we will hopefully see those Springfield Heights land expansions become available to all of us dedicated tappers! An hey, who knows maybe somete in the future we will se an update that allows us to gain a awesome new airport in ou Springfields! Let me know your opinions if you can. Thanks everybody and keep Tapping!!!

  10. Hello Alissa,

First and foremost thank you for all you do and now taking the extra time to clean things up when you could have just taken it easy (you must have some workaholic issues) 😝

Based on what I’ve read so far, I’m thinking about , maybe a new Tab (next to “tips and tricks”) called List Lovers – containing all the links to lists and charts that are currently available.

Or maybe a how to navigate the site tutorial -since there are a number of features and type of posts people are unfamiliar with via the tabs or search.?

Good luck on making everyone happy. 😃

    • Thanks tot 🙂 And yes…workaholic issues lol.

Good idea on the list tab. (i’ve just got to write more lists/charts)

And the site tutorial..this thread actually made me think maybe we need one. Seems a lot of people don’t use the navigation on the site as we’ve laid it out. So maybe a video tutorial is in order…for desktop and mobile versions.

  11. Did you get ever do a should I buy on the npcs that were released with the takedown update?

Btw I really really like the what the addicts want articles.

  12. Hey Alissa! Good idea to use this ‘golden’ time for cleanup.. my suggestion is not about the site, but about the app. What I really miss in the premium version is a search option. I don’t know if it’s possible, but if you could, I’d love to see that. Further: keep up the good work! 💪🏻

    • We’re no longer supporting the app, because of issues with the developer. (mostly the app has never worked as it was supposed to…)

      • Owww, that’s sad! Sorry to hear it didn’t work out the way you planned, I only bought the €3,- premium-app to support u guys and girls :(. Did’t know the support was gone, since I still get updated there.

  13. Hi everyone, first time post for me and I thought I’d make one suggestion. How about a SIB tab for all the past items so the’re easy to find.
I check in to this site daily and I think you all do a fantastic job, missing Bunny tho. Cheers from the Robster in the Shropshire borderlands.

    • Well thanks for coming out of the shawdows to post 🙂

And thank you for the kind words…

Do you mean like this page? https://tstoaddicts.com/premium/ But i guess easier to get to? (currently accessible via the tips and tricks tab)

      • That’s a good link Alissa, but i visit daily ( no daily commenter) and i’ve never found it. Maybe a kind of menu thing? I check here always if i want to buy premium items (donuts are easier to get now, and even bought them, been fremium for 3 years), but sometimes it takes time to find the SIB.
Btw thanks for all the good work here

  14. I would love to have a DM option or a way to create a profile and add your in game friends to it. Communication between in game friends is nonexistent.
I’d personally start over with friends if I had this option. I only want level 939, 2 billionaire, aesthetically pleasing towns to visit.
That kind of dedication is also a benefit when we have events where friend visits help. I’m just tired of dead beats.

  15. Is there a place on the site where you’ve collected the Springfield Show Off images? It’d be nice to have an archive that we could look through to get ideas during these precious down times when we reorganize and remodel areas of our towns.

Also, maybe an update/refresh of some of the lesser known pages on here, like the design tips section.

  16. I think my Springfield could use a military base of some sort. Was there ever a military-ish Simpson’s episode?

  17. I think if it were possible to add in some quick link buttons at the top (I check this site from my mobile device) to be able to access things such as the event calendar or other important items that can get lost in the shuffle might be handy.

    • This is the problem with the mobile version of this site…it doesn’t look like the desktop version (and when I made it look like the desktop version people were outraged lol)..SO..

If you’re viewing on a mobile device: during an event scroll to the bottom of the main page and you’ll see widgets. There’s ALWAYS a widget for the latest event where you can find all of the details and info for that event. Including, the calendar.

The problem with pinning posts to the top for an extended period of time, I’ve found, is people don’t think there’s new content on the site. So they don’t scroll down and look for anything else. They see the pinned post…there for days..and think “oh the site hasn’t been updated”. Happens WAY more than you think lol

      • Sorry, Alissa, but there’s no widget at the bottom of my page. All I see is a list of links that mirrors the buttons at the top of the page.

        • Bottom of the mobile page looks like this:

          https://tstoaddicts.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/screenshot_20160926-150106.png

In Desktop view the page looks like this at the side bar:

The event widget is usually between the Won’t you Be my Neighboreeno Widget and the SH Widget. Right now it’s not there because the Sci-Fi event is over and the Widget was pulled off.

On the main site, when viewed on a desktop (or in desktop mode) the widgets appear on the side bar. When you’re viewing on a mobile device they appear at the bottom of the page.

      • Makes complete sense. I wasn’t aware of the widgets option so I’ll have to check that out. Thanks for the info and all the work you and your team do for us addicts. It’s much appreciated.

  18. I agree that a full updated post on the hidden Springfield Heights bonus XP generators would be handy. Also, I now have all the land available, but an updated land map would probably be useful for a lot of people. And what I’ve been wanting to see for a while now, but am not sure if it’s viable, is a list of all the tasks for freemium characters with premium payouts (e.g. CBG, Skinner and Martin at the Observatory, Homer’s “surf the net” etc.).
Anyway, thanks for all your hard work, I won’t be upset if my suggestions don’t make the site 🙂

  19. Totally redid my SH land.
Devoting rest of my time to working my Sims Freeplay town.

  20. This is more for the app instead of the site (that’s right. People use the app.(or at least I do)). But could you please make the app have notifications so I know when you upload something that I might like? Thanks!

    • Now that I think about it, maybe notifications for when someone likes your comment or replies on one of your comments too.

    • The notifications on the app are down..and have been for a while. That’s a developer issue. But speaking of the app….

We stopped supporting it here because it hasn’t worked properly, or i should say to our standards.

  21. Data, data, data (so, yes, charts), preferably sortable tables (if WordPress supports that kind of thing).

Also, I wanted to send someone the link to your page about how to contact EA, but I had trouble finding it using the menus. I know they added a help button in the game itself, but I don’t know whether that contains all of the same info you had…

Agree wholeheartedly with Echo’s suggestion, too…anything that will make it so that we don’t have to keep writing full responses to the same questions over and over again. Maybe a section in Tips and Tricks for maximizing one’s gameplay?

I think part of the problem is that sometimes a really good tip comes as part of an event, but then applies after the event, too, but folks who didn’t happen to be playing TSTO or using the Addicts site during that event wouldn’t know about it. So, maybe, when good tips are posted during an event (either in the blog post itself or in comments), it could get copied into an ongoing list of some kind in Tips and Tricks or something?

Of course, these suggestions are just to help make a supremely awesome site just a little bit awesomer! 🙂

    • “Data, data, data (so, yes, charts), preferably sortable tables (if WordPress supports that kind of thing).”

WordPress may not, but Google Drive does. Alissa could (for example) create a Google Sheet (a spreadsheet, comparable to a Microsoft Excel file) of a “Master Buildings List” from the site’s Google Drive account, she could then give her own Google Account full edit access, and could then give ‘comment’ access to ‘anyone with the link’.

That way, scrubs like you and me could suggest (via a comment) correct/updated values (for example, if TSTO were to change the dollar or XP payout on blue houses), but the site wouldn’t risk losing reams of data to vandals. 🙂

  22. It’s a really, really long term project, but I’d love if there was one single page that listed all the buildings and decorations, if/what they earn, etc. I’ve started doing it myself, but it takes a really long time…

  23. WAWW, Guest Posts, WDTCF of random store items

From you Alissa, some showoffs (Beach Hideaway?), The Real Housewives of Springfield and maybe some spooky stories to get us in the mood

    • the WAWW and WDTCF posts are limited to when Wookiee has time between school and work…and when Bunny decides she wants to write posts again (she’s got a handful she’s been working on but never finished…) So unfortunately, you won’t see those this week.

      The others…we’ll see

  24. It’d be nice if some the older Should I Spend Doughnuts on posts could be updated with additional tasks the characters have now. I wasn’t aware of Crazy Cat Lady’s Bowl a Cat task until I recently spent doughnuts on that character.

    • Speaking of which… what I would love to see is a Wiki feature. So we don’t have to put it all on Alissa and Co. to do all of the heavy lifting.

If you see that Crazy Cat Lady has a new task… you can add it. Or I can. SlickDeals has something like this on their site, and it’s super-helpful.

You have the original post, and then all of the comments, but because things seem to get lost in 10-20 page comment threads (lol), especially helpful stuff can be moved into a Wiki area* that sits in between the OP and the beginning of the Comments section.

*IIRC, there are two sub-areas within the Wiki area… one for mods/admins to use, and another for regular scrub users. 🙂

  25. Maybe something fun, like an occasional article about past events and what they involved…”Blast from The Past Events” or something.

Thought of this after digging through old articles about past THOH/Halloween events. Saw the events where characters would get possessed by ghosts or bitten by zombies, which I missed out on, and was wondering what people who played those thought of them.

  26. I really liked having one page for the event that was sticky and stayed at the top, and within it have links to all the other info, links to quest lines, links to the calendars, links to the sites of prizes, links to SIB, etc.

I find it makes it a lot easier to find what I’m looking for. Sometimes the post I’m looking for has aged off so it’s quite a bit of scrolling to get back to the old post, and I may not always know exactly what search term to use, especially if a quest line has ended prematurely and I’m trying to figure out who to free to trigger the next part.

  27. I love the premium Guide. SIB info are great. But now that we don’t have level up new content any more, I think it should be redesigned. Maybe new links to limited time content.

Thanks for your great work here.

  28. I truly appreciate all you do. This is an EA fix – I wish there was a way to find useful buildings in my town ie: buildings that generate things to be used in the game. Town Hall, GooglePlex, Playdough Factory, ect..

  29. I think your main focus should be bonus % and hidden multipliers, as well as teaching people how to KEM farm for donuts. I see loads of people asking questions about this, and there’s not really a set page to share with them. I know lots of people don’t know much about the Heights hidden multipliers, and I think more people need to know how to farm donuts!

Thanks Alissa for all your hard work! Hope you like my ideas 🙂

  30. I know I’m going to miss a week of the Halloween event as I’m going to be awa 😐 Halloween is the best ever! Might have to spend some sprinkles to make sure I don’t miss anything!
