Friday Filler – London Calling and More Town Tours

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

I have to admit, I have enjoyed Act II of this over-extended, insanely grind-tastic event.  Mostly for selfish reasons. It has actually created some serious conversations between my wife and I about taking a “once in a lifetime” (actually twice) trip to Europe, before we croak.

As of late, the vast majority of our time and treasure has been dedicated to our kids, as in 5 college educations, 4 weddings (one to go) and a ton of travel to “see the kids” who are spread out all over the place, North, South, East and Northwest. Add grandkids (one due any minute!), and you have additional reasons to make your travel time, “family time.”  There’s nothing wrong with that. But does lack a bit of variety (even though we turned one into a 9.600 mile, 30-day cross country trip a couple of summers ago).

But…we both did extended trips to Europe when we were young. For me…that was almost 50 years ago. I hear a lot has changed in 50 years… When I went, there was still a Berlin Wall…a Communist help Czechoslovakia, and a ton of debris left over from 2 world wars. So…yes…change is good!

When we began our “world tour” in TSTO, it got me wishing that could go back again, and see some of our favorite spots, as well as check a few boxes off of the “I really want to see that…”  list that has grown over the years. I want to return to the British Isles, including Ireland (at least 2 weeks) and Deb wants to return to Spain and Italy, while adding France and Denmark into the mix for extended family. I also want to tour some WWI battlefields in France and Belgium, and want to go to Austria, Germany and Switzerland again. So…yes…this would be a HUGE, long trip, which we will have to wedge in between a trip to Uganda, another wedding, and who knows how many more grandkids. Retirement?  Pfffffffftttttttttttt… not gonna happen.

But in the meantime, I can visit the imaginative towns and places that have cropped up as a result of my “Town Tours” feature, started a couple of weeks back.  This week, I’m focusing on a couple more “Friends of Ebron,” as well one of my favorite neighbors, and a look at my own English homage.

Friday Filler – When Anarchy Meets Cool…

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

At least part of this mini update revolves around a Premium Character that I bought in a heart beat… One, might say, a “Heart Attack and Vine,” beat.

For anyone who is a fan of Tom Waits (he is in my top five favorites artists), you may or may not remember that Tom voiced Lloyd, in the episode, “Homer Goes to Prep School” (E9S24) which is where the Preppers come from. What’s interesting to me, is that this one of the lowest rated episodes (according to the rating bots at “simpsonsworld.com” where you can watch every episode online). But I beg to differ…especially in current conditions where “the end of the world” is fairly regular dinner conversation (if you live with people who give too much credence to the headlines than they should). This episode is hilarious, and could have been shot in a remote Southern Oregon town, where loads of real life “Preppers” live off of the grid…or grow pot…or both. But I digress…

Homer starts the doomsday talk with, “I guess despite all of our so-called civilization, anarchy lurks around every corner like a racially diverse street gang, on a network cop show.” Classic…

YOU Did This…The Amazing Work That TSTO Addicts Can Do!

When we talked about getting a water tank and rain collection system for our “adopted school,” in Buyijja, I was expecting some support, and a long haul to getting it done in the middle of a major TSTO event.

Silly me.

You guys ROCKED IT… and as promised, not only did the money get into the right hands quickly, but the immediacy of the situation (6-month drought conditions, with a dry well), got everyone into action.

By the time you read this, the tank should be fully installed. Yep. START TO FINISH in less than THREE WEEKS!

When The Writers Go Too Far…Diaper Shaming

It’s funny to me (and perhaps less funny to some), how the EA/Gracie staff interjects little political barbs based on bits of reality.  They are usually just lines in the dialogue, which most people bash through (I’d say Tap through…but, when you are in a hurry to get to the next task, bashing is more accurate).

In the “Around the World” event, there were a few items that could have riled the masses, including bits on immigration, municipal funding, and a couple of less minor topics that really got to me on a personal basis.

I get it. There is a lot to laugh at or lampoon in the world today. The whole bit with trying to woo the tourists, who didn’t speak our language was clever (they were French after all).  The bit about funding schools with the lottery was wincingly accurate, at least in Oregon…where we don’t have a sales tax.  So here in the Land ‘O Green, they fund schools with “sin taxes” including state run lotteries, and heavy taxes on cigarettes, alcohol, and now, the burgeoning growth industry of recreational Cannabis.

But then they went too far.  They cut a little too close to home…it got PERSONAL.
