Unemployment Job Manager is Here! (ie A Send All Characters on a Task Button!)

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

We’ll you’ve been asking and asking and asking for it…and it’s FINALLY here!  A send all characters on a task button!

As many of us suspected, the task update yesterday was preparation for this new feature in the game.  And now you can finally send ALL your characters on a task at once!

Kirk will kick things off for you and the Office of Unemployment is the hub for everything…

More details below the fold…

officeofunemployment_menu

As mentioned above Kirk will get this started…

Between Jobs Pt. 1
Kirk starts

Unemployment Worker: ID and social security number please.
Kirk: I’ve actually got both, now that the criminal who stole my identity gave them back.
Unemployment Worker: Oh! Mr. Van Houten.  You can just skip the line thanks to your frequent visitor status.
Kirk: That’s ok.  When you’ve got nothing but time on your hands, waiting in line is like a vacation with a purpose.
Unemployment Worker: That’s the saddest thing I’ve ever heard and I work at the unemployment office.  And moonlight at the suicide hotline.
Kirk: You do?  Tell Gary I said hello!  And I’ll be speaking with him soon!
Unemployment Worker: So do you want a job?  I’ve got chicken sexer, roadkill cleaner, virtual gold farmer…
Kirk: Right now I was kind of just hoping for a hug.
Gil: If he isn’t taking it, I’ll take that virtual gold farmer job.  Maybe then ol’ Gil’s virtual wife will stay faithful.
Squeaky Voiced Teen: I’ll take the roadkill cleaning job.  After working at Krusty Burger, it’ll be nice to see where our meat comes from.
Kirk: Wow, I didn’t realize that I wasn’t the only unemployed loser out there.  Why is all of Springfield looking for a job?
Homer: Some people are just too lazy to tap a few buttons.  Not me — I trained a monkey to push buttons for me!  He’s my boss now.

2015-09-24 13.40.28Send All Characters on 60m Jobs

Now to do this you head over to the Office of Unemployment Building in your Springfield and tap on it.  Just like Town Hall you’ll see characters doing tasks, if they’re there, the payout time for the building, and an option with a green button:

2015-09-24 13.40.36

When you click “Go” it will bring up all the options at the Unemployment Office:

Job manager 1

Now this is from my personal game.  As you can see I already have most of my characters on 4hr tasks for today (the rest are doing stuff for SH).  So here’s a look at how it will look if you don’t have characters on tasks (this is from one of my lower level games, so i don’t have quite as many characters):

jobmanger2

As you can see it will COST money to use this feature.  The cost (in green) will vary based on how many characters you have (just like the payout and XP).  The more characters you have the higher the cost, but the bigger the payout.  The less characters the lower the cost etc.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: IF a character has a task in yellow (ie from a questline you’re playing out) they will NOT get sent out on the jobs via the Job Manager.  So if you have a character that has to do a quest for a task in the task book/questline they won’t be included in the characters that get sent out.

BUG ALERT: This does not send ALL characters.  I just tested it again and it left 46 characters off of the 1hr task auto send.  Those characters are (for me anyway):
Apu, Barney, Bart, Brockman, Bumblebee Man, Cletus, CBG, Database, Dolph, Dr. H, Dr. Nick, Duffman, Eddie, Fallout Boy, Fat Tony, Gino, Grampa, Greta, Helen, Hugo, Janey, Jessica, Jimbo, Kang, Kearney, Kirk, Lampwick, Lisa, Lou, Luigi, Marge, Matt, Michael, Milhouse, Mr. Burns, Mrs. K, Nelson, Otto, Rod, Shauna, Sherri & Terri, Sideshow Mel, Snake, Todd, Uter & Wiggum.

Not sure if this is how it’s supposed to work, or if there’s a reason those characters were left off….we’ll have to so some investigatng.

When the jobs are complete you will still have to go around and clear each Thumbs Up, just like before.

Between Jobs Pt. 2
Kirk starts

Kirk: I’m used to paying for a lot of things: hair plugs, girdles for men, my child’s love. But did I just pay to go on a job?
Unemployment Worker: Oh you actually noticed….Sending someone on a job means a lot of paperwork, which we pay people to do, but then there’s paperwork for hiring them, and you see how this goes. So we deduct a portion of your income to pay for our administrative fees.  It doesn’t cost you anything…except for money.
Send All Characters on a 4hr Job

And there you have it my friends….the details behind the new Job Manager!

What are your thoughts on the new feature?  Are you have to have a “send all” button?  Wish we had a “collect all” button to clear those tasks quicker?  Thoughts on having to pay for the jobs?  Sound off in the comments below you know we love hearing from you!

  1. I looooooooooove this update. My poor non-Monorail useful characters have been neglected, and this means that I (and anyone else who has a significant number of characters) will be more productive when I do have time to play. Well done, EA! And thank you Addicts for giving us the full scoop on these changes!

  2. Do you have to be at a certain level to get the questline for this?

  3. Is the Job Manager worth the fee to sent multiple characters on jobs? Wouldn’t we earn more by sending the characters out individually?

    • Yes you would. You’re paying for the convenience of it.

    • If you would earn more depends on how often you turn your characters. If you’re like me and have been slacking on sending Springfielders on jobs, you make a WHOLE LOT MORE when you start turning them every hour instead of once a day, ha! (I’m sure it helps if the building is working properly and sending everyone on jobs, which mine is.) I think I brought in circa $400k cash yesterday, so at this rate the building is going to pay for itself in a matter of weeks.

Also, bear in mind the cost is about 20% of the *base* earnings for the jobs and does not take into account your Conform-o-meter bonus. This can substantially defray the proportional cost of sending people on the jobs using the building.

Basically, if you send your townsfolk on shorter jobs, more frequently because you use the building, you will probably net more money even paying the fee.

  4. I really like this. But, like Family Guy I wish they had a single button to collect all money. Overall I am very pleased to see this option.

  5. The new update? My opinion? I don’t wanna be rude, just my opinion… naaaah, it’s a bit of a dubious feeling. It’s great they uploaded this, IRS and Jobsy thingy but is it necessary?
Already we have Springf Heights, takes a good long time to earn enough points. And now again a levelling up case like the IRS? Naaaah tooooo much. Also, on a very tight and short notice we had several update changes which are suddenly all ,almost at the same (give or take a second) time, available….pppffofoooowww grande mucho lol. Oh mamma I’a gotta bigga head’a EXPLODERIO BOOOMMM lol
Oh euurm, please don’t reply to this message, I just wanted to give my opinion, that’s all.
What I’d really like is that my vote would be passed to EA which is: the game slows down, to many updates, tooooo many players and mucho serverinoooos in overdrive…fix that first and we’ll talk later. I contacted them already (2 times) nothing but a defined hesitatingly answer like : hold on please we do our best. So I hold on EA 🙂 I like you EA, I love EA, I’d f*** EA…. lol AAAAAAh EA and me sitting on a beach…licking icecream together….mmmmm HAAAHHHAAAA lol

  6. Ugh, I tried to Excel this out and all I did was make a hot mess.

Using the posted example, it’s tough to tell how many premium characters vs. regular. So any results are skewed.

I tried on just my 5 available characters, and it still varied on for each task. All 5 could do 4/8/12/24 hour tasks, but the auto function only would send 2 or 3 characters.

For regular (non-premium characters) XP has a better payout on auto, but cash is better only on 24 hour jobs.

HourTask No_of_Chars AutovMan Profit AutovMan XP
    1 5 86% 112%
    4 3 75% 100%
    8 3 93% 117%
    12 3 90% 117%
    24 2 108% 125%

    • I did some single character evaluations and it looks like the cost for a non-premium character is 25% of what you earn regardless of duration. For premium characters it is 15%. Rounding occurs so the more you send the closer to this percentage rate you will get.

The benefit comes in if you can use more short-duration tasks for your people versus fewer long-duration tasks. If you do a 1-hr task 4 times you can make 70×4=280 compared to one 4-hr task at 175. Even then if you don’t have a good bonus multiplier it may be difficult to make up the fee for use just through short-duration task efficiencies.

      • I like your analysis, but I think you underplay the effect of the short-term durations in your conclusion. Even without a bonus multiplier, by using 4 1-hour tasks in place of 1 4-hour task, you’ve made $35 more per character, even after paying the “fee”!

I’m loving this new feature…it’s finally letting me get to do some things in the game that I didn’t have time to do (some designing, finally padding a premium building I’d purchased months ago, moving my Springfield Heights along, etc.). Well worth the fee charged!!

  7. I’m seeing the missing characters too. Max I can send on a four hour task is fifty, which leaves a lot free. 🙂

  8. This unemplyment quest has not shown up for me even though I have Kirk. I have also made sure that he is available and not on another job. Could this be because I have not finished his main questline? The irs building came up fine

  9. Does sending out all of your characters at once have an impact on the money you get in return?
If I leave a character in a premium skin, does this button send them on that corresponding timed task or does it default to their original one?

    • Well yes. More characters you send the more money you get.

It’ll send the character in whatever skin they’re in when you select the task. So if they’re in a premium skin then yes.

  10. There is a reward payout for completing the job. I.E. It costs to send everyone on a job, so you would make more money by individually clicking on and assigning jobs to each character. The question I have is what is the percentage premium you pay to send all the characters on jobs? If it’s 5-10% then it’s fine but otherwise it really doesn’t seem worth it. Also, is the rate consistent (raises linearly with the number of characters being assigned) or is it logarithmic? I’m way too damn lazy to work out the answers myself. I am just wondering if anyone else has done the work so I don’t have to.

    • Honestly, no idea. And really, does it matter? It’s a game. Just play and have fun and don’t over analyze it….

      • The cost looks to be 25% of the standard job payout. The cost does not change for premium characters and is not affected by the bonus multiplier.

For example, the cost for a 24 hour job is $150 for both standard characters (who payout $600) or premium characters (who payout $1,000). Your “cost” is going to depend on the percentage of premium characters (or skins) you have and your bonus multiplier.

For me, approximately 40% of my characters are premium, or have a premium skin (thank you Stonecutter lodge!). Premium jobs payout around 50% more than standard jobs. My bonus multiplier is around 120%.

So, my payout, as a percentage of a standard job is:

        100% *(1 + percentage of premium characters * 50%) * (1 + bonus multiplier)

        =100% * (1 + 40% * 50%) * (1 + 120%) = 264%

So my cost is 25%/ 264% = 9.5% of my payout.

For me, I probably won’t use it all the time, but if I am tired or in a rush I think it’s a nice luxury to have.

        • Nice! This was the kind of analysis I was looking for.

So, you’re saying that I’m still getting a payout that takes into account the bonus multiplier? It doesn’t seem that way on the selector where it shows the cost and payout, but I could be wrong. Or, does the selector show you the payout without the bonus multiplier, but then you still get that extra money and XP separately?

I know this wasn’t your main point, but I need to feel confident in this base info before I can do my own cypherin’. 😉

      • For some if us, over-analyzing IS fun! 😉

      • I’m almost 100% certain you still get the bonus payout when you finish the job. It’s similar to when you send out a character regularly. The payout shown is without the bonus multiplier (i.e. $600 for a 24 hour job), but when you tap on them, you get your payout with the multiplier.

      • Thank you for your comments, Sandra. Some people just don’t have a lot for analysis that we do. 🙂

Thank you for your breakdown, Drew. My head still hurts, too, though. hah 😉

      • Darn, I didn’t spellcheck myself. I meant “love for analysis”. Whoops.

  11. If we have a “collect all” and a “send all” button, doesn’t that kind of defeat the purpose of the game? I mean the point is to be tapping around your town thus the name “Tapped Out” 😄

    • I think what they are trying to do is to help the longer players stay. I started playing a couple months after the game came out, even though I don’t spend much of my donuts on “Premium Characters” I still have around 80 or so characters. For me to send everyone out, it takes a long time, especially when I have to make sure that people are sent on the right task, etc. I’ve seen a lot of the people who I’ve played with since the beginning just stop all of a sudden, and that’s people who bought “everything”, every character, every building, every shrub. At a certain point the game becomes almost a burden to keep up with.
This to me is a nice nod in the direction of the longer players to help keep them around. I for one, really appreciate this. I can now put more effort into my town because I can easily send and collect the money I need.

    • Not when you have 150+ characters and a life outside of the game. I can only dedicate 10-15min max per day to this.

Good update along with the IRS. Saves time.

Now if they could only let me revert to different level buildings in Springfield Heights…….

    • When I first started playing you had to manually find each character, and scroll down to the 24 hour every single time… I thought the character finder and that the job finder started at the job length you selected previously were the best things to ever happen to the game. I much appreciate the new ways to collect and send characters on jobs. Now we have more time to actually enjoy the game, visit friends, update town layout, etc.

  12. So it looks like if the character has any task other than a 1, 4, 8, 12 or 24 hour task, it won’t send them. Although I still don’t understand why I have 90 something available characters for the 1 hour jobs, but only 42 for the 24 hour one.

    • Yea it’s an odd way to work it. Still trying to figure it out..especially when some players say all of their characters get sent.

      • It seems really random to me. I’ve even had different outcomes in my A town and my B town (e.g. Eddie got sent on the 1-hour task in one town but not the other). I’m currently on Android – wonder whether the device/OS makes a difference to how well this works?

      • babyob, do you have Lard Lad in your A town but not your B town? One of the factors that people are seeing for characters not being sent is that they have tasks shorter than one hour, and Eddie has a five-minute Lard Lad task.

      • aleistra, that’s an interesting idea, and you’re right, I do have Lard Lad in one town and not the other … but … in the town which has the Lard Lad (so both Eddie and Lou have the 5-min task), the autotask sent Lou on the 1-hr task, but not Eddie …

    • All of mine go fine, regardless of anything. *shrug*

    • It seems, for characters with tasks other than the “standard” 1, 4, 8, 12, 24 hour lengths, whichever task it is, they can’t be sent on the next highest timed task. My characters with 6 hour tasks l can send all on 4 hour tasks, but they are the ones left off the 8 hour list. Ones with 45 second tasks are left out off all. People with 16 hour tasks are not sent with the 24 hour group but part of the 12.

  13. I noticed it sends characters to do tasks in their defult skins. So no premium payout.

    • If they’re in a premium skin it’ll send them on the task in that premium skin. Otherwise it sends them on the task associated with whatever skin they’re currently in.

  14. Hey all, I have the same bug as far as send all and my list seems to be the same. Hopefully it will be fixed, but I am loving in all the same. Having to only manually send 43 – 46 characters is a lot better than having to do so for 115 or so.

  15. the game has needed this for a long time, bravo ea. I agree that a collect all button would be great also. too bad they don’t all go to one place. In the past Ive sent all that can go to krusty land if they don’t get more track, everyone else does a 24 hour task,Although I never collect on them, I know where they are. but once the track is connected i probably wont bother with the rail yard as well as S. heights (too boring and takes too long for minimal reward)

  16. In liking the new features EA has added here, but they broke a very important part of the game, at least on my game. Now anyone who has an exclamation mark over their head doesn’t automatically pop up in the character square on the top left. This makes it very hard to know when there’s something I need to do. It’s been happening ever since this ‘update’ hit, was fine up until today. Anyone else experiencing this?

    • It should still show up if that character is free. If the character is on another task it won’t show up though. But you’ll see their icon appear in the top left instead.

      • and this is actually better, because now you don’t have to wait until the character is free/off task for it to initiate the questline! however, the icon in the corner should still show an exclamation mark to let us know, so i’m sure ea will fix this at some point.

  17. The cost is free courtesy of building tennis’s everywhere. My bonus % age has gone through the roof…

  18. The characters that dont work in the office are all the characters that have works in springfield heights

  19. I an all have characters who don’t get send on tasks. Also need a collect all button. BT good so far.

  20. Off topic-the SH project is taking me SOOOO long and I work on it all the time. I kinda wish Krustyland had gone down like this. I expected to be done with SH a month ago and I’m only at 130M.

  21. I just wish they would fix Springfield Heights and give us more task length options…
    The regular 1, 4, 8, 12, 24h tasks, like Krustyland.

  22. If I’ve sent characters on the 1 hour task using the employment office, do I still have to manually do all the ones that weren’t included or will it work anyway?

  23. Upon a little more experience with this feature, it will be almost useless for me, because what seems to take precedence is rushing jobs that are in progress. So, even when I have a few people free and want to set them on 24 hour jobs, going to the unemployment office gives me the option to rush those people who are still on 24 hour jobs, rather than setting new jobs for the characters who are idle. I hope they remove the option to rush from the unemployment building, or this will be almost useless for those of us who constantly keep characters on jobs.

    • That or you might change your style of play to take advantage of it. I heard that some people set 2 or 3 groups of 24-hours tasks, to cut down on how many characters they have to tap on at once. This will change that to a single 24-hour grouping. What situation would be left to worry about at that point?

  24. So this costs money to use then! Hm…I’ll only use it when I’m in a rush then

    • Cos it also doesn’t take into account things like costumes which pay out more and stuff would it?
I guess send the first 20 on tasks first then use it maybe?

  25. Do all the characters it’s not working for have jobs shorter than an hour in their lists?

Shawna has a thirty minute task, Eddie and Lou five minute, Matt greening has a six second, Kirk half hour, Kang ten minutes, kerney… Thirty? Ten? Nelson t’en.

    Expatrie-

    • I have a feeling that’s what’s happening. And it screws up all task times for auto sending…

    • I don’t think it’s that simple… This morning, the first time I used it, it sent 80 characters to do a 1-hour task. Once I collected for that task and went to use it again, it only wanted to send 58 characters for a 1-hour task. In both instances, the situation was the same…I had put all of my recyclers to recycling or trash collecting, and was just trying to use the unemployment center for everyone else.

The whole thing is very odd…but I guess it still saves some time, even if it’s not working as perfectly as I think it should.

  26. Am I the only one running into this problem: I downloaded the latest update, and my game will no longer open. Hard closed the app and even reset the my phone.

  27. The loss of earned income isn’t worth using it on a regular basis. At least for me. It’s a pain to tap out and assign tasks for over 80 characters that I have, but I don’t want to lose out on any cash I could be earning. I’m a freemium player so my cash stock isn’t too plentiful. This feature will be best used for me in the morning before work or just before I go to church on the weekends. I was hoping for this feature for a long time, just wish it wasn’t one that cost you money to use it.

    • fremium players can still get quite a bit, you just need to designate an area of the town to a blue house farm and work at it. i’m freemium, i make over a million a day . i have a big farm, but you dont need a big one if you are happy with less money. when you are tired of it , store the houses, you can always pull them out again if u need money

  28. the elephant got some new jobs…can’t post a picture right now cause he is on a job but he got at least an additional 1h and 4h task…
did anyone notice other characters gaining jobs too?

  29. Anything new about game doesn’t send ALL characters?

  30. Love this option/function!! Remember tappers, this is an option. It’s not mandatory to use to task characters. So for those of you who feel let down with not being able to tap all the characters, as per the name of the game, you can still do that, but it also gives you the ability to quickly set your characters to task (like when you’re sneakily playing at your desk at work haha). I tend to opt for a 60min task and try to update as many times per day as possible, so this option will work great for me when i’m pressed for time thru the weekdays at work.
    Thanks EA!!!

    • Also, I’m playing on iOS 8 (havent upgraded to 9 yet) and all my characters were sent to task; no leftovers hanging around 🙂
