THOH 2015 101: Crafting Act 1

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Well here we are, in most Tappers favorite time of the year in Springfield….Halloween!  (although I prefer Christmas 😉 )  The leaves on the tress have changed colors, the water is murky and there’s a darkness that falls over our TSTO screens.  All of these effects fit in perfectly with this year’s theme….Nightmares.

For the last year (THOH 2014 was the first year they did this), EA has broken up Events into stages.  Where every couple of weeks new prizes will be released.  They’ve also, over the last year, added an element of crafting to each Event, where you pick which prizes you want and craft accordingly.  And they’ve continued both methods into THOH 2015.

While the prizes themselves are pretty self explanatory, collect this to earn these prizes, crafting is a whole other “animal”.  Crafting requires some self direction.  You decide what you want and collect the items to craft accordingly.  Sometimes this is successful and sometimes it’s not.  However, crafting for this event is pretty simple and straight forward…and there’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to get every craftable item you want this time around.

Now I know some of you still have questions about what to craft, if you should wait or craft now and what will happen in future Acts for THOH…so as we’ve done in the past, we’re here to breakdown all the crafting fun for you guys.  So let’s take a look at the complete guide to Crafting in Act 1….

2015-10-06 18.45.33

As always let’s start with the basics….

How Do I Access the Crafting Menu?

To bring up the Crafting Menu you first have to access the Event Hub from your main Springfield screen.  This is represented by the greenish-blue trophy in the bottom right of your screen:

2015-10-06 18.45.24

From there you find the crafting Icon, which is represented by a cauldron..

ico_thoh2015_crafting_tabTap on the cauldron and you’ll bring up the crafting menu, which will look like this:

2015-10-06 18.45.33

What Items Do I Need to Craft?

The crafting items for the ENTIRE THOH Event should remain the same.  To craft during this Event you’ll need the following:

indicator_zombiebrains – Brains
indicator_snakeeggs– Snake Eggs
indicator_bunnyears -Bunny Ears
indicator_skeletonbones – Bones

How Do I Get Crafting Materials?

The most basic way to get crafting materials is by tapping the nightmares that come from the campfire.  Here’s what yields which item:

zombiehuman5_front_walk_image_2 Zombies yield indicator_zombiebrains.  So tapping Zombies will earn you brains. (1 for 1)

Snake Snakes yield indicator_snakeeggs.  So tapping snakes will earn you snake eggs. (1 for 1)

bunny01 Bunnies yield indicator_bunnyears.  So tapping bunnies will earn you bunny ears. (1 for 1)

skeleton_front_walk_image_2 Skeletons yield indicator_skeletonbones.  So tapping skeletons will earn you bones.  (1 for 1)

Another way you can earn crafting materials is by tapping Formless Terrors in your town and sending them to a neighbors town.  Formless Terrors look like this

Formless Terror

And tapping/sending them will earn you 4 crafting supplies for each one (4 for 1).  There’s more details about this in our neighbor post here.

You can also earn Crafting Supplies as the first prize in Act 1, it’ll yield you 50 of each type.

And finally crafting supplies can be earned by various items and costumes from THOH Events past.  Here’s a list of what/who earns what:

Ninja Homer- 4 Snake Eggs/4hrs
Mayan Marge- 8 Bunny Ears/8hrs
Shadow Knight (Bart)- 12 Bones/ 12hrs
Count Burns- 24 Brains/24hrs
Mausoleum- Earns 8 Skeletons/8hrs
Pet Cemetery- 10 Bunnies/10hrs
Freak Mobile- Earns 12 Zombies/12hrs.
Hollow Snake Log- Earns 12 Snakes/12hrs

As of this post NONE of these items are available for purchase in the store, so you will have to have them in your town already from previous events.  But I do believe some of these items will be making a comeback before the event is over.

How Do I Control Which Nightmares Spawn?

It all starts with the campfire and scary stories…

Spooky Campfire

There are four characters that can tell spooky stories at the campfire to control which nightmares spawn.  Here’s the breakdown:

Martin= Zombies
Lisa=Snakes
Milhouse=Bunnies
Bart=Skeletons

After the initial task via the main questline for each kid to tell a story (initial task is 30 seconds), you can resend the kids to tell stories to change the nightmare that spawns.

For example if you’re currently spawning Zombies and you want to change to Bunnies you would send Milhouse to tell a Spooky Story at the campfire and it would immediately change from spawning Zombies to spawning Bunnies.

Note: You MUST complete the questline in order to get all 4 kids to tell spooky stories.  If you can’t send Bart, for example, it’s probably because you’ve either ignored the main questline or didn’t finish it yet.  DO NOT IGNORE THE MAIN QUESTLINE (The Call of the Campfire).  This WILL cause your to lose progress and get delayed in the event.  You MUST complete the main questline.  Walkthrough can be found here.

How Often and How Many Nightmares Spawn?

zombiehuman5_front_walk_image_2I believe nightmares will spawn every 15 minutes on their own from the Campfire.  More will spawn every 4hrs if you send kids to make S’mores at the Campfire.

As far as how many…well that’s based on what level you’re Campfire is.  The higher you increase it the more that will spawn every 15 minutes.  It’s a 5% increase each time.

So now that we’ve covered the basics…let’s go over some of the none basic questions you guys are asking…

Will this Crafting Currency Remain for Acts 2 and 3 or will it Change out?

indicator_zombiebrainsindicator_snakeeggsindicator_bunnyears indicator_skeletonbones
As far as I can tell…this is it.  These four crafting currencies will make up the crafting currency for the entire event.  Which means when Act 2 hits you’ll still need to get those 4.  When Act 3 hits…same deal.

Keep in mind, it’s possible MORE crafting currency could be added, but I don’t believe these four will leave.

Is this It for Crafting Prizes Or Will There Be More?

As the Event continues MORE prizes for crafting will be added.  I can’t promise they’ll be amazing, but more will be added.

Will Act 1 Prizes Still be Available When Act 2 (and Act 3) hit?

From what I can tell, yes.  The prizes won’t leave the crafting menu, just new ones will be added when new Acts hit.

Should I Hoard Crafting Currency or Craft What I Want?

I think most of you will agree that it’s pretty easy to earn crafting currency for this Event, unlike past Events.  So honestly, if you see something you want just craft it.

Should I Upgrade the Campfire or Craft?

ico_thoh2015_upgradetappable

Honestly, and we’ll breakdown the Campfire upgrades in another post, it doesn’t really matter which you do.  Personally, I’m doing both.  So I’m following along with which Nightmare I need to upgrade the Campfire and switching the Campfire over to that nightmare.  Once the upgrade is finished I then go to the next one.  It’s allowing me to build up a pretty good amount of craftable currency, while still upgrading.

And now let’s FINALLY breakdown the Act 1 Craftable items….

As I always say…craft what you want and what you like.  It’s a personal decision…if you like it get it.  If you don’t pass.

And that my friends concludes all of the details for crafting during Act 1 of THOH!

What are your thoughts on crafting for this event?  Do you find it fairly easy so far?  Or are you struggling with it?  Thoughts on the craftable items?  Which ones have you gotten so far or do you plan to get?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Hi!

Is it just me or the crafting only goes until the end of act 2? At least, that’s what my timer says…

  2. Hi there, why can’t I move my Halloween trees and things to my Krustyland like others have done in the show off pages?

  3. In the crafting menu, it says “new prizes will be added in X hours…”. Will the Act 1 craftables disappear when Act 2 starts or will they still be available for crafting until the entire event ends.

    Thanks!

  4. I did craft an extra spooky house to get that to go away. I did at least one of everything except for 3 spooky groves–I like those. I am going to save the rest. I got the gateway Friday night and now what to do with kids and smores? I wish there were donuts for overages. 😀

  5. Act I has been pretty weak. I crafted the Impossible Tower (meh) and Spooky Grove (yawn) and already had the rest. The multiple tents, cabins and hedges from upgrading the campfire are just more clutter for the inventory box. I wish EA would allow selling repetitive “prizes” from events. And another thing (sorry this is turning into a rant): The screen and overall look of the game is the same as last Halloween, right? If EA intended to use a retread, why didn’t they use THOH 2013 look? The passing shadows from the clouds, blowing leaves and creepy things in the water was way more impressive.
Fingers crossed that Acts II & III step it up.

    • I expect the prizes to improve dramatically. Act one really does seem like it’s set to catch up newer players, which is fine albeit annoying to us veterans. EA always seems to step up and there’s a long way to go.
One thing I totally agree on, the atmosphere this year sucks more than sucky can suck. I don’t even notice that the screen has darkened supposedly. It feels like watching a really good horror movie in the middle of the afternoon with the phone ringing and someone trying to talk to you. The spooky atmosphere is so not there. If they don’t make things darker then this will be the worst event since Easter 14 where I ended up spending somewhere around $60 in scratchers to get everything

  6. Hello Addicts – I worked my way through every prize. No I don’t see the point to continue upgrading or sending the youngsters to their campfire tasks. Thinking to have them making cash tasks or any other thing (maybe resume the springfield heights grinding)

    • Actually, you haven’t finished. The event is far from over and the best is yet to come, you can either be ahead when new things come or play catch up

  7. My be a weird question but I’ve looked about everywhere and can’t seem to find an answer. But the freak mobile won’t show up in the shop in my game, however the pet cemetery, mausoleum and tree trunk all show up for the bonus spawning items I’m sad because I wanted that one from years back and never got it :/

  8. How many spooky houses and trees do u have to craft for it to quit sayin u can craft another?

  9. Excellent info, thanks Alissa. In the past events, EA has sometimes changed the amount of resources required to craft items. Is that likely to happen again with this event? Are any craft-able prizes likely to leave the game at the end of Act 1, or maybe require donuts to craft when the next act begins? Also, can Hugo be sent on the s’mores task? Phew, hope that’s not one question too many.

    • I don’t think so. And not sure on the prizes. My guess is they’ll go the way of having to spend donuts on them once Act 1 ends if you didn’t get them.

And yes, Hugo can be sent. 😉

  10. Great information here! this Halloween update is awesome !!!👍

  11. Where can I find info about upgrading the campfire??
Do I have to craft a spooky house in act 1 to be able to move onto act 2? I already have one.
    Thanks for your help ☺

  12. Mine said I could now craft the impossible tower but I can’t find it anywhere! Any ideas?

    • You have to actually hit craft. It doesn’t automatically do it for you. You have to go to the crafting menu and move over to the impossible tower and craft it.

  13. I must say I’m loving this event so far and it’s my first Halloween event so these things are all new to me so I’m enjoying crafting what other people probably already have from previous years lol. Also this event seems really generous with the crafting materials which is awesome 😀 So far I’ve managed to get over 2000 of each crafting material in a week and I only have a couple of premium children and I don’t own any of the costumes or buildings that release Halloween currency. So far I’ve crafted 4 spooky houses, 4 spooky groves, 10 dead trees, 10 skeleton trees, and obviously Hugo and the impossible tower. This now gives me another week of stockpiling currency till act 2 hits and brings more craftable items so hopefully I will earn 2000 of each currency again over the next week which will give me a good head start at crafting act 2 craftables 😀

  14. Man I hope the prizes get better in the next two acts.

  15. I already have a Spooky House from last year. Do I have to Craft another to complete the Quest Line?

  16. Hey guys! I am puzzled by the purple blobby faces that are on the bottom left of my screen next to my donut count.. Is that how many formless terrors I have? The count is in the 300’s now! some neighbours towns say 0 blobbys so I was wondering how that could be if they are so easy to make. Ok!! Thanks and happy scary tapping folks

    • It is how many formless terrors you have to give away to neighbors. You can give up to 10 to each friend during visits.

    • Yeah, Formless Terrors don’t do you any good unless you send them into friends’ towns. The friends who have zero either aren’t collecting any, or have sent them all away. You get material when your friends harvest the terrors you spawn in their town, so everyone wins!

  17. I really hope the crafting items stay as is. I’m hoarding my items as I already have all the stuff (obviously I got the tower and the grove this year) Hope you guys are right! Because I Remember being so behind in past tasks. It’s nice to be ahead for once!

  18. Hi! Thanks for the explanations, it helped a lot as always!
I have a question though: there’s a discrepancy in my counters and I’m wondering if it’s normal. My counter shows that I have 72 bunny ears but in the upgrade bar, it only shows 25 of them (out of the 200 required).
Any idea why that would be?

  19. Omg….so sorry to bug you again. ….as for the skins- mayan marge, shadowknight, etc, do the characters have to be on a task or just wearing the costumes? Also, I thought I read that Mr burns crypt should be spawning something, mine doesn’t seem to be… I could have swore I saw his crypt open in a neighbor’s town, but mine is closed. How do I open it? I’m starting to think maybe I imagined that it was open! Thank you so much for all your help.

    • You would need Marge in her Mayan skin to send her on the 8 hr task that earns Bunny ears, etc. As for Burns, if you send him on his 24 hr COunt Burns task, he earns 24 brains… this task occurs in his crypt.

  20. Help! I’ve been tapping all the nightmares – bunnies, snakes ect…. And the total to up grade the fire stays at zero. I have up graded to level 2 and now trying for level 3. But the count stays at zero. What am I doing wrong??
    Thanks ahead for a response!
    Gailyn aka gpikky

  21. My campfire released snakes, even though it is set to skeletons and no matter how many times I have Bart tell his story. Does anyone else have this problem? A solution?

    • Let me ask you this…we’re those kids ALREADY on tasks for S’mores BEFORE you changed it? It won’t impact tasks already set. Only those AFTER changed.

      • Im sorry, same issue, can you elaborate on your explanation please?

        • Same thing, you CAN’T change a task that is already timing down. You can’t go back in time. So if you already have a Kid Making S’mores and earning Snakes for it, you can’t change that.

What you CAN do is to send one of the Storytellers to tell their story to change the Nightmare for any NEW kids sent on a task to get S’mores.

So, if you need Zombies… have Martin tell a story. You will see the pop up say “Now Zombies from Campfire…” then any kids you send AFTER that message will get Zombies from making S’mores. You can tap on the campfire and see who is getting WHAT nightmare by the picture icon next to their task for the payout.

      • Kim (kimberlyah794)

One time, I set everyone on tasks to earn a particular nightmare and about five minutes later, hit the mark for the next upgrade level, so I boxed every youngster who had a building, unboxed them, and set the right kid to tell a new story, then set the rest of the newly-freed kids to earn the new s’mores and nightmares. Obviously it won’t work for everyone, because not all of the kids came with buildings, but it worked for something over half of them. So, I at least got a jump on the next upgrade level without having to pay bookoo donuts or waiting that full four hours.

I’m a lot more careful now about paying attention to how close I am to the campfire upgrade before I send kids on tasks. Sometimes, if I’m close, I’ll just send the exact amount of kids for the nightmare I need (say 25 snakes), then setup the next level in advance so I don’t have an overabundance of something I don’t particularly need.

        Sheesh. I’m so long-winded tonight! 😉

  22. For long time players there’s not much here for now – I already have tons of both of the trees, two Spooky Houses and Hugo from previous events, so I crafted only the tower and the grove. Now I am waiting what will hit with the next acts, while accumulating crafting material. Might make another grove or two, depending how much I have left by the end of this event.

  23. Hi. I have noticed that, when the storytelling is ready to collect and I tap on it, any nightmares in the area disappear. Then the nightmares from the task appear. Did I just loose the nightmares wondering around the fire BEFORE I tapped on it? Is this a thing?

  24. Hello Adicts.. Do you know if any of the craftables provides bonus? Such as the spooky walls last year. Thanks

  25. I have crafted all the stuff so far, Spooky Grove and the Impossible Tower. Already had Hugo and and several of both the trees from the last Halloween event. I also crafted a second spooky House even though I already have one from last year just to complete the quest. So doing good, taking a long time to get the Model Doughnut though but there should be plenty of time.

  26. 10pm Pacific Tike Friday Oct 9
Still getting the Bart Screen of Death
Then Game loads like I’m a New Player
Then Game gives me Bart Screen.of Death

I’ve tried signing Out & back In to TSTO twice

I’m guessing EA doesn’t want me to craft tonight (I gave up contacting EA and/or posting in their Forum tonight!)

cjbrown788 is not a happy long time Tapper 🙁

  27. Are we to assume the crafting supplies will change when act 2 hits like previous events? I’m not really feeling all these crafts and am wondering if I should hang onto my supplies like a hoarder.

  28. As usual I intend to wait towards the end to craft anything. They might add better stuff as well as lower prices like they did the cactus patch (in the T. Event).

While here I have a couple things to get off my chest. We still have the friendly policy right? Maybe next Halloween we will have a Troll invasion (no not those under the bridge kind) the kind that are always attempting to get people’s goats (not the under the bridge kind!), the kind that feeds off negativity and hate and just wanting people’s reactions, taunting, enough is enough, seriously! The only trolls I want to see have big bushy hairdos and live under bridges unless in the Game itself. Thank you for your time.

If the admin wishes to entertain these “voices” I might silence mine.. Ok, not likely but it sounded cool to say.. I will send a personal email that may not beat around the bushy hair. Stop feeding these creatures please (goats are being got and I don’t no if I can let it all be water under the bridge).

    • Lol. There comes a time when a basic Commentor turns troll. So instead of pushing them to the back, we let it all out in the open. Show people why we do what we do and how silly the “Troll” mentality is to have.

No worries. It has to happen now and then, but we do what we do for a reason. 😉

      • Personally I consider myself more an Ogre than a Troll, Shrek is cooler 😀

      • And I screwed up. I’ve been saying that we shouldn’t respond to a troll message because that’s what trolls feed on and, if you don’t feed the troll, he tends to just go away. But I jumped right into this one. 🙁

Okay, it’s too late for this time, but can we all agree that no one will respond next time? All it takes is one response to make the troll feel fed, so we all have to try really hard not to forget!

      • I’ll give ya that Wookie, although can’t say I’ve seen the movie (yet) just the trailer

      • @ Sandra Sorry wasn’t intentionally “trolling” was just trying to be funny, wouldn’t be the first time I put my foot in my mouth, sorry.

        • Oh, no – not you!! You’re fine! It was someone else we were talking about – someone who only ever posts complaints and negative talk here.

I don’t even know what you were referring to, so I must have taken whatever it was in the spirit in which it was intended! 🙂

      • Just checking, as my comment was sorta troll-ish, Bunny mentioned in a post about some submissions having a troll mentality, so yeah, being the troll that I am at times, said I prefer to be an ogre lol Thought your comment was directed toward me, and I did not mean to offend, glad I haven’t.

      • If I ever turn into a Troll, I want you to shoot me (an email, not a bullet).

        • Lol. We get people have a bad day, so we try to give them a lil leeway, but there comes a point it becomes out of control and we speak up.

    • Who’s that clip clopping over my bridge? 👹

Are we talking about someone beginning with B ? 😱

      Is it better to ignore, or better if lots of people disagree so they know they’re in the minority ? 🎃 ⚠ 🍜 🍱 🍤 🍕 🍝 🍟 🍔 😵 🙂

  29. I just wanted to take the time and thank you all for all the hard work you’re putting into these posts they really help out a lot. So again thank-you.,
    Wes.

  30. Kim (kimberlyah794)

I’m loving how much easier it is to earn event currency/crafting items and “eggs” to send to neighbors this event. I suppose EA didn’t make much money charging donuts for bonus packs of craft items and just decided to let us play and have fun.

I wish the dead trees were still available for in-game cash. I’d like to pick several more up, but will probably wait until the end of the event, in case I need the craft items for more things.

Overall, I’m enjoying this event. I’ve earned all but the last prize and am pretty far ahead. REALLY hoping they offer bonuts, because I’ll clean up.

My only frustration is how much longer neighbor visits are taking. The load time between towns is so long, and then sometimes finding nightmares to tap is hard. I’ve gotten rid of my streets and put a road around my campfire to help my neighbors. I hope they’re finding it helpful. 🙂

    • I’ve done the same thing in my town out of consideration. Very frustrated that it takes over an hour or 2 to make the neighbor rounds. It takes 20-30 minutes normally.

      • Kim (kimberlyah794)

I know! It’s nuts, right? Although I managed to get through it a bit faster today. I think more people are boxing animated stuff to help with the event. That, and I’m no longer crashing every 5-10 neighbors. Maybe only 3-4 times now for 100 visits. Crashes are still annoying, but not like it was before. 🙂

    • And your town looks pretty! I disabled my monorail because of the same issue, then decided to go ahead and take it down. I was close to the 4500 item limit so I am trying to store some things. Hopefully this will speed up load time for neighbor visits. 🙂

      • Kim (kimberlyah794)

Thank you so much! I have a lot of work to do, redesigning things to include everything since the monorail event and the past few levels. All of my new stuff is just stuck around the perimeter.

And don’t even get me started with SH… The ironic thing is I created a gated community for my mansions literally a week before the SH level hit, and then the entrance to SH was exactly next to where I put them. I’m loathe to move everything since I *just* redesigned that section of town.

I like the idea of the monorail, and have tried to logically wind it through my town, but it blocks so much of the views, and it is a memory hog. I might end up just packing it up in the long run, too.

        • I did the exactly the same thing, I designed all my mansions about a week before, it’s not near the entrance but that’s OK my heights area is now a vacant lot, I moved everything down to Springfield.
As for the monorail, I have no idea what to do with it. I was going to wait until the end of the event then design it but now that it’s indefinite, I’m lost.
