In Game Update: Football, Gil and Donuts!

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Well it’s not Valentine’s Day…but we did get ourselves a little in game update in preparation for the “Big Game” this weekend! Gil is back and he’s brought along some tailgate fun!

Oh and did I mention there’s a new quest involving donuts?!

2016-02-04 19.55.22

Back with more in a bit as soon as I go through it .  For now know that you’ll need Homer and Lisa free to kick things off for the donuts…. (Gil will just be hanging around Springfield as usual)

More details below the fold..

Ok so let’s start with a couple of the basics…you know the stuff on timers 😉

It’s Superbowl Weekend and TSTO decided to celebrate the Big Game by offering up a Gil Deal in addition to some items returning to the store.  Let’s take a look…

Items in the store…

2016-02-04 20.42.12

These appear after you start the dialogue for the Gil Deal…

footballuprightsaway_menuFootball Uprights- 50 Donuts

No, we won’t be doing Should I Buys for the random stadium items in this update.  They’re returning from Tap Ball and basically they’re a if you like it get it items.

And now onto our friend Gil..

2016-02-04 19.56.00

You’ll find Gil wandering around the streets of Springfield with a deal for you!  Here’s what you’ll see when you tap on him:

Gil: Who ya rooting for in the Big Game?  Care to put some skin in the game?  Because that’s all I’ve got to bet – my skin.
Homer: The Big wha?
Gil: Y’know, the Big Game!  The Gridiron Championship!  22 men enter!  22 men leave!  But only 11 as winners!
Homer: Ohhh, you mean the Superbo–
Gil: Whoa, buddy!  Do you want Ol’ Gil to get sued?  Although if I get sued one more time, I get my next trial free.  Instead, keep me out of jail by buying my sweet tailgate party package with beers, burgers and babes for the Big Day!

And if you say no….

Gil: No sale!? Not even for the Big Game?  Well, fine.  I’ve got my own party to throw. And nooo, it’s not with imaginary friends.  Because I’ve saved up enough money to buy the dolls.

And if you say yes….

Gil: Finally! A win! Much like one of those teams that will be playing on that day we mentioned.  I won’t have to melt all my participation trophies down for scrap metal. Instead I’ll keep sleeping on them in my trunk.  So pointy!

tailgate

The tailgate itself is pretty massive at a whopping 11×17 in size.  We’ll cover a lot of details on it in it’s own Should I Buy post, yes we’ll be doing one.  But for now know that it can be upgraded and it comes with it’s own questline.

So now let’s talk about the other big thing with this update…daily challenges.  First let me start by saying there’s a questline and a few other things associated with it.  This post is just a general understanding.  We’ll break EVERYTHING town in detailed posts, as we always do, coming up.  So sit tight for more detailed info, as this is just a basic overview….

Homer kicks off the Daily Challenges quests and you’ll start by getting a series of short tasks…from 6s to 1m until you unlock the challenges.

You’ll also unlock a new building…Big Box:

bigbox

Once you’ve unlocked the challenges you’ll see this popup:

2016-02-04 20.03.45

You’ll now be able to complete challenges each day at a shot to win prizes, including donuts!  Pretty sweet!

2016-02-04 20.03.54

And they’ll work just like Daily Challenges from previous events.  Log in each day to unlock a new Challenge.  Complete the challenges each week to earn the prize!  And because there are 5 challenges to a week, and today is Thursday EA’s unlocking the first 4 for you to complete today.  So that by tomorrow (Friday) you’ll be able to unlock the 5th and final prize for the Bonus Prize!  And the challenges will reset again Monday morning. Now that i’ve played through it I can tell you there’s a challenge every day, including weekends.  And the number of challenges to complete to earn a prize will vary from 5 challenges to 20 challenges.

Now one thing to note.  The arrival of the daily challenges means the removal of the Daily Play Combo…

2016-02-04 21.02.38

Which means…no more free weekly Mystery Boxes!  However, EA’s giving you 1 more free one to make up for it…

2016-02-04 20.05.34

My box contained a News Van…

Note: Some of you are getting confused on this.  This is not the end of Mystery Boxes.  You’ll still be able to buy them in the store (for donuts), it’s just the end of the Daily Play Combo…meaning the end of the free mystery box on the 5th day.

There are a couple of questlines that come with this new update.  We’ll cover those in our Turbo Tappin’ post…

However, one other thing to note is this update includes a new task for Springfield Heights.  You’ll now be tasked to upgrade the Private Island to Level 5 via the Paradise Found questline.

Some of you are commenting that your Islands are all already at Level 5 and you can’t do anything to clear the task.  If this is happening to you, and you don’t have an option to purchase another Island.  Contact EA.  Let them know what’s going on.  It’s a programming glitch that needs to be fixed.  They’ll have to release a patch to restore it.  So contact EA and let them know.  Once you’ve contacted them, sit tight and ignore the task for now.  (You can contact EA here)

You’re also tasked with upgrading the Exclusive Resort to Level 5 via the When Four Stars Is Not Enough questline.  Currently I have a bug on my Exclusive Resort where it says it’s an Elf Cannon and it won’t let me upgrade it.  If that’s happening to you as well, contact EA.

And that’s it my friends.  The basic rundown info on today’s little update.  We’ll be back with more detailed posts in the coming days.

What are your thoughts on today’s update?  Liking the Gil Deal and the return of the Tap Ball items?  Thoughts on the Daily Challenges?  Upset the Daily Prize Combo is gone?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Getting into some the tap ball return stuff!! The new challenges means probably 1000 donuts a year, I reckon, I will miss the mystery box, all the excitement of the week, being let down with another channel 6 news van (which was my last ever mystery box prize, btw).

    • How do you come to that number? If it’s say 3 a week, then that would be 156 donuts in a year. Or are you counting other sources of potential donuts?

      • Here’s my math: I have the Rail Yard for 5 a week. Where’s Maggie game for at least 6 a week. Friend tapping- at least 7 a week. Now the weekly challenges….hard to say, but I’m going to go with 10 a week minimum. So right there that’s 1456 doughnuts a year if you’re really devoted. Also- don’t forget about Sideshow You. That’s probably another 15 doughnuts a year. Plus all of the Bonuts you can earn during the various events. I would put that number at a conservative 50 doughnuts a year. There’s also leveling up doughnuts both via XP and new levels. So that’s probably another 40-50 doughnuts minimum. Plus- if you do the Blood Mobile/Rat Trap truck trick from time to time, that’s probably another 50 doughnuts there. so now you’re up to roughly 1600 doughnuts a year.

Of course results may vary. 🙂

  2. Yikes – I hope that isn’t the same bug as mine! With mine, it repeats the dialog twice in a row right away (before you really have much of a chance to do anything), so maybe it’s a different bug?

  3. My “last” mystery box gave me 30 donuts!!! I wish I could get that box again 😁😁😁😁

  4. I got a pond in my box. 🙁 I’m in total agreement about Heights being just grindy and annoying. All I really want to do is move my entrance tunnel, but the only place it will fit without a major rearrange is going to cost me thirty awards things. At the very least I’d like the option to get the tasks off my book.

  5. Why am I such a sucker for anything with a questline? Trying to resist…

  6. springfield heights is just so horrible. it is not fun, and not really even simpsons related. seriously have to click same thing every 30 seconds for days on end. monotonous and boring. ther should have made multi hour tasks. now i have 3 heights tasks on my task list i will never complete

    • well..i get the feeling because of the grind of it. But it is 100% Simpsons related…

      http://tstoaddicts.com/2015/12/02/where-did-that-come-from-springfield-heights/

      • i know the concept of springfield heights is from the show, but it is an obscure reference to build such a “big” part of the game that requires so much time out of and i meant most of the nonsense in heights is not from the show or readily identifiable

      • and just fyi by nonsense i mean making tons of islands and boats and parking lots and office buildings. no clue what episode has a part of springfield with dozens of this stuff on it

        • Oh ok. Clarification was necessary. But at least you can store those…it’s just the grinding. And yes it’s annoying. (at least to me)

      • They said “not really”. I bet they refer to the humongo buildings. I’ve yet to hear that those come from the show.

        • exactly, im looking at these dozens of dozens of monotonous huge buildings that we are forced for build dozens of to get the billion dollar goal, maybe they panned by one for a millisecond in a show. huge fan, seen every episode multiple times, but look at springfield heights and does not remind me of all of the show . clicking making tens of thousands of coffees and yoga mats and pills and awards…

    • I agree, I was really thrilled with SH in the beginning, but have put everything I can in storage and resent the stuff I can’t (except the pill factory, that integrated nicely). Every time they prompt me to do more I groan. And I was super excited for the prizes like the lake and artie’s mansion, but they didn’t look as good in the game as I thought they would, and they’re in storage too.

That said, it gave us Lindsay Naegle and Cookie Kwan for free, and I’d put up with a lot more annoyance for them. I also focused on grinding not for buildings but for land and bought all available pieces, and now have a wide open space to store all buildings and decorations I haven’t found a place for yet in my “real” Springfield, so they can still earn money and add to my multiplier without making too much of a mess. The entrance really bugged me but I finally figured out a way to totally cover it up, on the Springfield side at least.

I’d have less of a problem with it if, for instance, when you needed pills you just needed pills, not also yoga mats. But I guess that wouldn’t leave us as “tapped out” as they’d like 😉

      • I was thinking the same thing recently. If you can make some things out of “thin air” like furniture, latte, and yoga mats, why not the rest? If I want to make something that requires awards (or anything but those 3) why can’t I just make awards? I don’t want to get the whole process going!

  7. I got the donut shop, which is pretty neat, and I just had a mystery box a few days ago of 30 donuts.

I’m like the new way of daily prizes so far, something different to change up the game.

  8. I think the new building is pretty cool looking. Kinda fancy, so I put it up in the Heights.

Silly when we can’t store these buildings. It’s gonna be a little frustrating having that new icon always in the top right corner. I assume it disappears when the day is complete.

    • Great minds! I also put it in the Heights, by my money mountain and other ostentatious gold items.
I’d actually like to put it on the pier at some point, because those ornate benches and ornate fences would probably look good with it, and those are, unfortunately, boardwalk-only items. For now, though, there’s not a good spot for it. I’ll need a major rearrange, and maybe a bigger ocean.

Icon does not disappear, BTW. Mine is still up there while I wait for more tasks to unlock. I’m fine with it, though, because donuts.

      • “Because donuts” is my new mantra! 🍩😀

      • Yadda yadda yadda because donuts. As long as you end it that way, they can do no wrong. 😉 😛

      • Sad about the icon. I am sure they cleared during events. I hope EA changes that. I better go complain on the forum. *sigh*

        • Glad to see I’m not the only one it bothers. Now that I can’t play on my iPad mini anymore because of the enormous space requirements for this game, I can only use my iPhone 6 and the various menus and icons are taking up all 4 corners now, which is a lot of valuable screen space.

          • Me, too. My phone is not tablet big and this icon is in the way for no good reason… Plus, the more I look at it, the more I ignore it. It’s better if it’s gone when they’re completed for the day. So when I see it there again I can get excited and want to get rid of it all over again. 😉 🙂 Now I’m looking at the game with blinders on. lol (it just started, so I’m kidding, but it might happen. )

      • Which item doesn’t go on the boardwalk? Every one you mentioned does. I’m pretty sure there’s no difference in what can go on ornate pier or on the wooden pier.

        • I’m confused by your question. I said that some items I would like to use around the shop are boardwalk-only, but there’s not a good place for it on my boardwalk/pier. I wish I could use ornate pier decorations on dry land, would make it easier.

  9. I like BIG BOX and I cannot lie /
My online brothers can’t deny /
That when ol’ Gil walks in with some in-game updates /
And pink round things in your face /
You get stunned, wanna reach out and touch /
Cuz you noticed that Box was stuffed /
Even her sheen is glaring /
    I looked and I can’t stop staring /
Oh baby I wanna tap with you /
And make you a fixture /
My own boys tried to warn me /
But that box you got making me so corny !

  10. Inside my last free mystery box was…*drumroll*…Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge.
Or another stupid billboard. Same difference.

    “You have selected POWERDRIVE!”

  11. I experimented with refusing tasks, and it seems the rewards are pretty much 1 donut, 3 donuts, or 1000 money. The results were as follows:
-refused a 4h 1000 money task, got an 8h 1 donut task instead
    -refused a 4h 1000 money task, got a 4h 3 donut task
-refused a 4h 1000 money task, got another 4h 1000 money task, but had to do it 13 times instead of once – with 8 people eligible, this has pretty much become an 8h task for the same reward

  12. I also got the news van!

  13. Ahhhh!! It gave me a “Collect Furniture” task and I already Xed out something. No EA, No. No more Heights tasks. At least Furniture is pretty harmless. But nothing else. I stopped messing with Heights for a reason and don’t want to have to go back to grinding out currency.

  14. Has anyone discovered all of the possible prizes that can be won with the change? So far I’m seeing doughnuts, and one cash reward. I replaced the cash reward task, and it was replaced with a doughnut reward task. Can we win stuff other than doughnuts and cash?

  15. I have bought the Tailgate. What a beast! I had to remodel a size able part of my Springfield to make enough room.

  16. I think this makes more sense than the random quests for top level people. Instead of just keeping us busy, we get a chance at donuts and other currency by doing tasks. Anyone know if the random quests are ceasing, too?

    • Only one way to find out…complete them and see if new ones popup 😉

    • I was wondering about those, so everyone has been getting new random quests?

    • I’ll test it today/tomorrow. I have 1 for Moe, I forget how long but I’ll send him overnight and I have a 24hr for Skinner.

    • I have one to send Homer to Lard Lad that’s been in my taskbook for ages. He’s my favourite character though so I purposely waited for a task with him to leave in my book to stop more from coming. Hopefully someone can let us know they’re done with so I can send him and finally only have 1 task in my book. The stupid reach 1bil one…and now the ones for this questline which I should complete soon enough but that stupid SH one is probably gonna be in my taskbook for a loooooong time to come 😒

    • That would be better than the IRS building and unemployment office put together

    • I’m a top level person. I got a random task involving HEIGHTS today **have goosebumps after saying the H word**. So the answer is a no.

    • I had a random task for Moe to shop at the Kwik-E-Mart. Completed it and so far nothing else has popped up… However, Wiggum is busy finishing the investigation, Akira is re-potting a bonsai and Cookie Kwan is advertising Springfield Heights so there is an outside chance something may appear once these three are done (although if I remember correctly the random tasks had previously shown up even if the character required was busy…). All other characters have been free at some point since Moe finished shopping so here’s hoping it’s the end of the ransoms!!!

  17. Yippie!!! I got 30 donuts with my last mystery box.

While I will miss the Weekly MYstery Box, I already have several News Vans and 5 Lard Donuts, That’s enough eh. ; )

    Best of luck to everyone!

  18. I’m happy to get more stadium fences! They caused me a bug during that event. Now I have more than I’d ever use. lol. If the stadium stuff, benches, are premium, is that helpful to us that have them already? Does it have bonus?

  19. if I saved a mystery box in my inventory, should I leave it there or open since there will be no more mystery boxes?

    • Let me be clear on this. Mystery Boxes are NOT disappearing. You’ll still be able to buy them. However, the free one as part of the daily combo is no longer going to be offered. So the ones in your inventory won’t go away.

  20. Two things – one on-topic, one off-topic…

Thing 1 – I didn’t realize that the two tasks I had left to do today for the new donut thing could be done at the same time as one another…I thought I had to have Ned do his power walk before I could send Cletus to do his task. Upon re-reading this post, it seems like it is somewhat implied that the tasks can be done simultaneously, but, in case anyone else didn’t catch that nuance, hope this is helpful to you. (I wish I had figured it out sooner…now I’m gonna have to stay up later tonight than I wanted, or else lose out on better overnight earning potential for Cletus).

Thing 2 – When I’m doing my questlines now (whether they be ones for old items I just recently placed – like Barney/Luann/Investorettes – or for new ones, like with this little mini-event), I’m getting the dialogs repeating twice. I think I saw someone else commenting that this was happening to him/her, too, but is this happening to everyone? Or is this just a bug that a few of us are experiencing? It’s not really a big deal (definitely not worth a call to EA), but it is a very minor annoyance.

    • Took me a while to realize that as well, but caught it just before reading your post.

    • blackgypsyrose13

I get that double dialog too, at least once a day. Yes it is a minor annoyance especially when you’re in a hurry to get the people going so you can get back to work LOL.

    • In response to Thing 2, I’ve been having the dialogue repeat on a couple of questlines.
The only time this was annoying was during an event when it meant it reset my count of materials or whatever I collected toward that particular part of the quest (can’t remember what event it was though!!)

    • I cancelled that Cletus challenge that rewarded cash by tapping on the X and it got replaced with a Channel 6 news challenge that rewards 6 donuts.

      https://www.dropbox.com/s/1ews8vph2fx9t1q/Dailychallenge.png?dl=0

      • I’m so annoyed that I didn’t realize that that task paid out only cash…I thought that was in ADDITION to donuts! I find the info in that dialog box to be very ambiguous.

      • Well,d@mn – I just x’d Cletus’ task (even though he’d finished it) and I got another task that paid cash – even less cash! So much for trying to “beat the system”!

    • I’ve been getting the double dialog thing for quite a while now

    • Kim (kimberlyah794)

I’ve had the dialogue repetition a few times, but it’s not constant. It is a little annoying, but not overly so.

    • I put annual gift man (from…2014?)into storage and the dialog popped up. The only way to clear the task was take him out and tap him. After I did that I put him back in storage and no repeat. weird

      • No – that’s a different kind of repeat…I also had that when I made the mistake of pulling the nativity scene out of storage…had to send all 5 Simpsons on a 16-hour task to clear that one (and it’s really hard to spare them when one is still doing Rail Yard and questline tasks). Won’t make that mistake again next year!

    • I sometimes get the double dialog, but only if the character is on a task at the time, not if they are roaming free.

    • Had another strange incident with double dialog yesterday: Lisa was supposed to start another part of the new questline but was still in the recycling plant making metal, even though the time for that was already up. The “!” appeared over the building, instead of the thumbs up. I tried to be clever and save myself the double dialog by tapping on some building nearby, and sure enough that released all my “metal workers” too. So now Lisa was roaming the streets – but the “!” was still stuck to the recycling plant! Tapping on Lisa did nothing, but tapping the plant started the dialog. As soon as that was done, another “!” popped up over Lisa’s head, and tapping that started the same dialog over again.

Thinking back now, I am about 90% sure that all the incidents with double dialog were at one of the recycling plants. Maybe it is due to the fact that the task is attached to the building, but the characters are running around outside?

  21. I got yet another Klav Kart as my last Mystery Box, closing the Mystery Box chapter with a whimper – but I guess I can’t complain since I’ve received 2 Lard Lads, Blue Haired Lawyer, Kearny, and a couple of 30 donut payouts over the months. I’m so happy there will be more ways to earn donuts through Maggie and now this new daily task thingy.

  22. I should be getting a mystery box tomorrow from the daily play combo, so if I turn off automatic updates will I be able to get it first? Or will it be forced upon me? Or do you have to start the quest line first? Because I could just occupy homer with something else if that’s the case :’) thank you!

    • No it’s not an app store update. It’s an in-game update. Meaning no matter what you do it’s going to hit your game. However, if you ignore the questline you should be good.

  23. Maybe with this, EA can get rid of those random one-off tasks that everyone loves so much! 😛

    • I have a task to harvest perfection… I plan to leave it there sine die. The icon is cute. 🌹

      • How long have you had that task? I haven’t had a crop growing task in over a year, I bet. Granted, for most of that time I had two random tasks that I just ignored and left unfinished. But lately, since you no longer need a character free to trigger a new quest, the only tasks I get (when I actually clear one) are for a character.

        • After Christmas/Winter event. As I didn’t want any random task for characters with tasks at the Rail Yard/Springfield Heights, I kept going to Krustyland and coming back to Springfield to change them. I think I had to do it about 10 times until I had a crop growing task.

  24. I was just thinking this morning that the Mystery Box had become a bit stale as I had all the items in it. Then I was looking in the WIki about the Homer Buddha and was hoping they would update the box with some different prizes. But this is pretty awesome too. I got 10 donuts for my last box. It was a bit of a rub that I was due a to get a box today anyhow, but bonuts are bonuts! It could have been a bomb shelter.

  25. To update the Private Island to the last level you require 25 trophies and 125 ads. The Marketing agency which produces the ads has a maximum figure it can reach of 100. How then do I get 125 ads? I’m lost.

  26. Kudos to EA actually providing ways for players to earn donuts for free. They were super frugal during the first couple of years but I think they caught on to how TinyCo’s TQFS was offering ample opportunity to earn clams. Thank god, because TQFS has become completely unmanageable cr@p with no sufficient space to warrant even trying to accommodate the infinite tasks they throw your way. I’d much rather spend my time and potential dollars with TSTO. So thanks EA for making TSTO completely playable and rewarding at a casual level. Good job, EA!

  27. Do you think that Valentines will come after this update ends on the 9th?

  28. pieridingsharks

i got 10 donuts in my last mystery box

  29. is it likely that things cost on average more donuts now because EA has given so many options for free donuts? the rail yard, maggie, frink’s xp machine (kind of), new daily challenges.

    • I think they’re hoping to make more money on limited-time stuff, cuz a lot more folks will save up, then be just short of something they really want, so they’re more likely to buy a Golden Scratch-R or box of donuts to make up the difference.

If nothing else, freebies build goodwill, which tends to boost sales.

    • I’ve been already noticing things kinda trending that way. That’s why I haven’t really complained since there’s more ways to get donuts

    • My thoughts exactly! I really hope they don’t. On the bright side we received A LOT of bonuts during halloween and as far as I can tell I didn’t notice any increase in costs.

  30. If anyone is interested you can still buy mystery boxes. Just click on the homer budda and scroll all the way to the left. ATM the box is still for sale for 6 donuts in the store.
