Should I Spend Donuts On the Hootenanny Barn & Luke Stetson

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

YeeHaw!  The Wild West has arrived in our pocket-sized Springfields!  With bandits to tie up, guns to sling, gold to pan & gold ole’ Homer getting everyone all riled up! So bust open the vaults and grab those donuts because there are loads of new Wild West themed premium items in our stores!

Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to buy everything because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add Luke Stetson and the Hootenanny Barn to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this pint sized cowboy to your town.

Hootenanny_Barn Luke_Stetson

Building/Decoration: Hootenanny Barn
Character: Luke Stetson
Donut Cost:
100 Donuts
Size: 6×5
Earns: $135, 15xp/4hrs
Conform-O-Meter Impact: Vanity +100

Leaves stores on May 17th…but the earlier you buy the better

Pros
-Comes with a questline
-Fun animated tasks
-Decent price for a premium character/building combo
-Luke will have tasks at the barn
-Luke can earn currency at the town plaza (at a premium rate)

Cons
-Luke is a 1 off character, so it may be hard to justify spending 100 donuts on him, when there are many other regular premium characters you can buy
-Not voiced

Final Thought:
Premium:
For premium players, Luke is a good buy for this event.  100 donuts is reasonably priced, he can help with the event and it’s a character combo.  To me this is a good buy for premium players.  If you’re going to get him, I’d get him sooner rather then later so he can be the most useful to you during the entire event.

Freemium:
Freemium players…if you’re wanting to buy a premium character for this event…this is probably your best bet.  Luke is reasonably priced, a full premium character and comes with a building.  Hits all the premium bullet points.  Plus he’ll help with the event.
However, I NEVER recommend buying a character solely for event purposes.  Take a good look and determine if you want to pull the trigger on this one off character….otherwise those donuts may be best saved for something better down the pike.

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would/wouldn’t do.  And I can tell you I’m on the fence with this one.  Still debating it myself, but I’ll probably make my final decision before the weekend.  (so he can be the most helpful for the entire event)  Just make sure that you pick him up sooner rather then later if you’re thinking about getting him.  The sooner he’s in the game the more beneficial he’ll be to you!

Note: Luke does come with a questline.  Personally I think you should hold off on completing the questline until the event is over (it’ll still be around), so that you can use Luke at the Town Plaza to help you earn Event Currency…

Here’s a look at Luke’s Permanent Tasks:

  1. Do the files contain labels for luke like kid, kook, ect. Might help me make a decision on him if he is effective for use in other events like Halloween or others. Thanks!!

  2. I had a bit of bad luck/god luck when bought the Hooternanny Shed? The game crashed and after restart the shed was gone! Nowhere to be found. I contacted EA by chat. They restored the lost 100 donuts and I bought HS again. The next morning I found another 100 donuts to my big surprise 🍩😋

  3. Have 180 + hard earned donuts. Tempted by the low price of this character but rewatched the episode and honestly wasn’t too impressed with him. Holding out for the pig or the steal mill. Hoping they will offer another barn as part of the event.

  4. What do you mean by “he’s a one off character?” Do we still have him after event if we buy

    • I mean in the show. He only appeared once…

    • Any time you buy a character or building or decoration, especially for donuts, it’s always yours to keep forever (or at least for as long as the game and your account exist).

I bought this right away. Too cute and reasonable for a character/building combo. This is the only premium item this event that has been worth it to me.

  6. I have to get him. His character was voiced Jonathan Taylor Thomas! <3 (I know he's not voiced on the game)

  7. If there is A Wild West Caption This I want to submit this

  8. Yeah, I don’t like getting tempted. I saw the price….but that conflicts with not exactly wanting the character, lol. Yes, there’s also Halloween… I have all the freemium kids, plus at least 3 premium kids. I don’t remember an issue last THOH, so I doubt I need more kids.

And no offense to any blonds… cute little blond boys just rub me the wrong way. It could have to do with me having dark brown hair. I have a cousin who almost looks like this.

…I know, Bart is supposedly blond…but, I disagree. In the Simpsons world, that boy is a blonde.

    • After going through a couple of TSTO Halloween, I ended up buying all the children in the game as it used to be that they help in that event. But I think since the last Halloween, other characters also helped. But the habit is formed and I bought this blonde boy.

      • Last year’s event was partially based on last year’s episode. It might have been an anomaly, but it’s the only one that I’ve experienced. Time will tell if I regret not getting him.

  9. On his 24h task, does he just stand there or does he walk about? I saw him at a neighbors, thought I saw him walking, but then he just stood there while I waited and waited for him to move. Maybe he gets stuck easily?

  10. Can’t have a Western area without a barn. At only 100 donuts for a character and building combo. This was a must buy for me.

  11. I bought this immediately: this truly is a VERY reasonable price for a building+character combo. Moreover, in my experience, having another kid character can prove useful in other more kid-centric events (like Halloween 2015, for example). So while buying Luke early helps you to progress more efficitiently through this event, having him in your Springfield might also help you out in events down the road.

  12. Hello ! I’m having an issue with the first part of Luke’s questline. Somehow, I can’t figure how to end the mission with Lisa: the “thumb up” is missing. Is someone else having this glitch, and maybe has managed to overpass it ? Thank you !

I wish this event had a Gil deal for rebate donuts on a premium character or item. Who’s with me?!

    • They always should, even if it’s just 20 donuts rebate. They bug us to buy premium characters — well, I’m not tempted any more than before, because remember Alissa saying not to get characters just to help with the event….that means I need another “good reason”, hint hint.

  14. Combos are almost never this cheap. I bought it the second time I looked at it in the store.

  15. Eh, not even tempted at the price.

  16. I needed only 200 clues more to get the last prize of act 1 when it ends. I think i should spend 20 donuts to get it, rigth? ( i have like 230 donuts)
Thanks and sorry for my english!

    • Yes totally worth it especially of you want it its not that hard to earn 20 donuts also it’s not like your to low on donuts

    • Depending on what you needed to get those clues, you could have just rushed a character or a few through jobs at the town center to get what you need. I ended up just a few hats away from having enough to trade in, and my bandits weren’t giving me hats, so I spent 2 donuts to rush a job to get me enough before act 1 ended.

Of course, now, your only option is to go back and buy it outright with donuts. It’s up to you if you want to, but, if it will only cost you 25 donuts, that’s not bad at all for a building and a skin, even if it’s not a premium skin. You just have to figure if you may want those donuts to buy something else later on.

    • Yes – it’s a very good deal at that price. 🙂

  17. I was about to buy him, then I changed my mind and bought the Rich Texan. The Texan has been featured in the last couple events, so I figured he was the more practical long term buy. I stand by that, but then the barn for 15 is a bargain, so I probably should have just bought Luke. Aw, well.

  18. I’m a freemium player and have enough donuts for either Luke or Jesse Grass. I’m torn between which to buy between these two. Anyone please advise?

    • To me Jesse is the better buy if you have the Rail Yard. If you don’t have the Rail Yard, the Barn is better.

    • Jesse helps with the railyard and the redwood. He’s not considered a youngster so is unlikely to be valuable for Hallowe’en events. But his visual tasks are great (protesting at Krusty Burger and doing yoga). I bought him because of these animations and I’d recommend him for anyone with the railyard. The help with the redwood is nice but unnecessary (its not a timed quest).

Luke helps with this event, he comes with a building, and he is (I think) considered a youngster so he might be useful for THoH events. I saw his 24-hour task in a neighbour’s town and it’s cute. If I do pick him up it’ll be because of this task, but I’m undecided despite his cheap price (I think it’s just Akira and the pet shop that equal the low price though both of those come with extras (bonsai’s from Akira and tasks for Mr. Teeny and Stampy with the pet shop)). I don’t think I’d miss him if I pass on it and that might be all I need to know.

    • I hate the Jesse Grass character in the show, so no amount of help at the rail yard will convince me to buy him. I never have trouble completing it for my weekly donuts. However that’s a personal bias and not one shared by all. So I’d buy Luke. In fact, I did. 🙂

  19. Although it’s a decent deal, I guess I’ll pass. I would only ever see one of his two outdoor tasks (since I pretty much never use 24-hour tasks), I don’t remember this character from the show (could have been during the few seasons in the late middle when I wasn’t watching), and I still have quite a few “core” characters that I don’t have yet. The barn is nice, but I’m not really looking to make my Wild West section much larger than it is (already not sure where I’m going to put the paddock when I get it. And this event hasn’t been too hard to compete with just freemium characters (although I did appreciate having Lurleen helping out during Act 1). And while having a lot of kids is sometimes helpful, I think I already do have a lot of them (especially since EA usually tries to make events achievable for layers with far fewer characters than I have already).

But I can certainly see the temptation with this one…

  20. I bought Luke right away. You could describe me as an in-betweener player (in between a freemium and a premium player). I had over 100 doughnuts saved up. So I bought Luke, because there are very few better deals for doughnuts. I don’t care that Luke is a minor character. I bought him for the value. I hope we will be able to use him for Halloween too.

    • I agree with buying him as a freemium player, since he is a 100 donut premium with a building, but usually what cuts the deal is that there is no voice. Personally I will possibly buy him as my “specialty” as a freemium player is to buy kids for the Halloween events too.

  21. bought him right quickly (mainly because my game glitched, started going through dialog starting back to july 4th, some how gave me a crap-ton of free donuts for a rebate on barney {even though i bought him during the space minievent}). happy he earns double in the town plaza. well double guns anyways (haven’t checked on the hats or pitchforks).

    • Why can’t I get those kinds of glitches? All I got was a phony offer to buy Brandine.

      • So, if you bought Barney during the deal you now get more donuts back, it sounds like. Where are the protesters? Or, EA I like free donuts, too! I bought Miss Springfield — where’s my repeating rebate? 🙁

        • It was just a individual glitch. I got Barney during the deal and I assure you nothing like that has happened to me (except, perhaps, in my dreams).

        • hell when it happened i thought my game was going to be completely screwed. especially when the dialog got stuck in a loop. had to hard close and restart my phone to make sure it let me keep playing. still not entirely sure my game is 100% ok as some of the new task indicators are green checkmarks instead of the red slash showing the task can’t be completed (characters all busy).

    • That is a good glitch!

  22. I caved and bought Lurleen a couple days ago and while I was planning to get her anyways, there’s not much better than 100 donuts for a character/building combo! Would have bought it if I had the donuts but sticking to freemium at the moment >.<

  23. I was waiting for this post!
I saw the building in a neighbour’s town and it looks useful, more farm than wild west so can be used away from the other event buildings. Plus kids are adorable and I always seem to buy them if we get offered them.
So I’ve just got him now.
(I might end up storing the other buildings because I don’t really want a permanent Wild West area)

  24. I am usually a freemium player but I have a small stack of donuts and he is so cute. I missed out on all the cool desert stuff from the Terwilliger event. Maybe I will wait to see what you say about the Old Mine which is way more western looking. I shall tap and rile up and promote while I wait.

    great SISD 😀
thought 100d was an ok price for a buliding and character and the barn looks great in my wild west area, so happy with the purchace!
What buildings have everyone been using to bulk up their WW scenes? I’ve resorted to tetanus terminal elements, Beer n Brawl and some spooky sheds…

    • Could use some of the elements from the campfire event a few months back, The Springfield Gorge, Mount Carlmore, Rancho Relaxo (if you have them) and the abandonned warehouse maybe.

    • I’ve used Spooky Shed, Lincoln’s log cabin, and Virgil’s cabin from last Christmas.

    • Shotkickers and the shotgun wedding chapel. Kind of debating Classy Girls; it’s nearby but not on a dirt road just yet.

      • Shotkickers was my first move. Ruth has it permanently lit up. Then I moved the shotgun wedding chapel. It’s funny how it was a grass only building but dirt was fine, too. 🙂

    • added a skeleton tree too from the last halloween event

  26. I got him right away. It’s pretty well priced for a character/building combo and I like the look of the barn in my Western section. Plus he’s a kid and they’re usually helpful during Halloween events too.

  27. I’m a freemium player now… but I jumped at this.

It’s tied with Akira as the cheapest building/character combo in the game… so I’d call it a great price. It helps with the event as well, which is a nice bonus. It’s another kid, and those are useful.

And the barn seems like a very versatile building for design purposes… it’ll look good in the old west area, near Cletus’ farm, or a few other places. Whereas a lot of character buildings are not very unique (restaurant, casino, etc)… there’s no building quite like the barn, it stands out and is very identifiable.

    No regrets at all here.

  28. I like the character, like the building, like the tasks and the price is right. Plus, as someone else mentioned, kids are always helpful for Halloween.

  29. Does anyone else have a problem with Shredden Ned skin? I can’t send him for 60min task or 4h

  30. Oh no! That joint task with Lisa was so adorable. I was hoping it was permanent.

    • Please describe. I remember a joint task between Bart and Milhouse that EA failed to make permanent. I was/still am disappointed.

      • Luke and Lisa walked around town with Lisa making cute little smitten gestures every one and a while. It was part of the quest and now seems to have disappeared

        • That’s nice. Seems like that would be a good part of getting Luke (if I were into that, and part of why I was not wanting him…).
