Addicts Open Thread

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s that time of the week again, time for the Addicts Weekly Open Thread!  So, let’s get the conversation going!  Oh and remember…just because this is posted here today doesn’t mean you can’t comment on it all week long.  This open thread will still be open for comments long after today is over!

Here’s where you can talk about anything you want to talk about…TSTO Related, Simpson’s Related or ANYTHING.  Just no Add me requests…those should go here.  We’ll give you a few suggestions (like most Sunday’s you can talk about the current episode of the Simpsons) but for the most part you’re free to talk about ANYTHING your little Tapping Fingers desire…just keep it PG.

So, here is your Open Thread…..

Act 1 of the Sci-Fi Event ends on Tuesday morning, are you ready for Act 1 to end?  Excited at what Act 2 might bring?

Speaking of the Sci-Fi Event…what are you planning on doing with your event items?  Creating a dedicated area of your town or working stuff into your Springfield?  Or are you just planning on throwing it all in storage when it’s over?

So the second tunnel for the Monorail arrived last week, make any major design changes?  Have you worked the Monorail into your town successfully?  Does it loop?

How was your weekend?  Do anything fun and exciting?  Personally, we spent the weekend down at the Jersey Shore.  The last chance we’ll get to do so before summer ends…

So chat about the Simpsons, TSTO, Update fun, or anything else you can think of!  Can’t wait to chat with you all, you know we love hearing from you!

Have Fun!  And happy Sunday!

  1. Hello Team TSTOAddicts!
Well, I kinda wanted to give a few thoughts, like PatriCOG, I see much stress in the struggle achieve EA’s latest TSTO goals.
I’ve been freemiumly tapping away at TSTO for nearly three years now, and I have many neighbourinos (hi all 😉 here whom know I have my episodic ups and downs.
But I’m really conflicted, and from the sounds of it many of you are too! I have been pretty happy with EA’s donut ratio lately, f’instance I managed to purchase with hard tapped donuts the future Burns / Smithers combo, and I now have 52 sprinkles already from various tappiness 🙂
However, I’m on PatriCOG’s side as far as the necessity to tap to achieve the final Act 2 bonus. And I agree it really doesn’t bode well for Act 3.
I’ve been more active in TSTO world recently, mainly due in part to content. I really liked the first Superheroes event (Spiderpig!!!) and appreciated the ability to expand my Zenith Future City, to the extent it takes more land than my SH. The recent event speaks to me again, and has given me that same fun-factor of earlier events with mini games like the tower-tap, I think it’s really smart the progression to more advanced robots that need double taps, keeping you pensive for what’s waiting in Act 3.
And they have a possibility of a Cube appearing in your Springtania! What more could I feckin’ ask for !?!?! 😉

  2. I came here seeking some information… I no longer care about the info I seek. But now the rest of my night is set.

I guess I’m going to play pong pong at my neighbors (Ben’s) house.

  3. If you have Digi Ben in your town, please place it in a far away corner and don’t tap it. Also leave a reply here to let everyone know you are doing that. I’m doing it, so feel free to enter and exit my town as many times as you like to receive a nice surprise. Keep your eye on the lower left hand corner of the screen as soon as you enter.

  4. Anybody else think it would be cool if we got a donut bonus for referring friends to play the game? I think 10 donuts per friend referral would be fair… 😀

    • Seems more like the number would be 5 (we win 5 at the Rail Yard) or 3 (the standard top prize for bonuts). I think a bonut box would be neat (with a minimum win of 1 donut).

How do you think they’d keep track of your referrals?

  5. I was having problems last night with my account
It logged me out and said it was under something
    Any it’s working now

  6. Okay have read many comments about getting donuts etc., I know that actual cash is diffcuflt for some or may be a quest for others this is a game wonder about that. I look at it as entertainment, I do spend some actual cash on this game & am not sorry that is much less than my annual cable bill. My time is more important to me than doing what I have to do to get donuts. & with that said I do not spend money on another internet game.
    & thx

  7. Danny(dannythoma899)

Just finished the railyard for this week, and was awarded my 3RD tunnel. Thought you were only supposed to get 2. Oh well wont complain.
    Happy tapping

    • I believe that’s right, that you’re only supposed to get 2. I wonder if you’ll also get a 4th one! Otherwise it’s only good for a non-looped track system.

Did you have the tunnels stored when you won the 3rd one? Or were they both placed?

  8. Why hasn’t anyone posted how annoying Arnie Pyne in the helecopter is when trying to tap around town. Always liked it when visiting other friends but no fun in your own.

    • I have, I avoid doing it at all costs.

    • Many, many, many people have posted about that (just not recently). But you’re right…I always thought he looked cool in my neighbors’ towns and would have gotten him except for all of the comments I’ve seen about how annoying he is to have. He seems to be number one (or close to it) on the “regrettable purchases” list!

    • I always leave him in the Stonecutters skin.

    • I thought he was cool for the first few months I saw him in neighbors towns but I find it really annoying when trying to tap robots. I’ve seriously considered dropping friends who have him because he is so annoying. I’m really glad I never bought him.

  9. I know I’m not the first to say this nor will I be the last, but these events are becoming more and more tedious. So far I do like the prizes for Sci-Fi more so than that of the Super Heroes Sequel. I am actually making an effort to earn them, unlike the last event where I just wasn’t inspired to tap it out to earn everything. Super Heroes Sequel was the first event in all my years of TSTO that I didn’t earn it all because I didn’t try, and I hope Sci-Fi doesn’t fall into that category. Also, I am hoping the next THOH/Halloween event brings some fresh ideas and play mechanics. The Halloween events usually set the bar for the following year of events, so we’ll see. I don’t know how many more of these formulated and regurgitated events I can endure, but I’ll keep tapping because…well… I’m an addict.

Now that I have vented, I need a little advice. I spent all my sprinkles on Grimey for fear that after this event he would be gone. Now that there is a deal on Frink (after years of tapping still haven’t picked him up), I figured this would be a good time to farm some donuts. I currently have about 25 donuts, 32 million cash and I’m around level 120.
Should I go with a one day XP multiplier or longer? Can I earn the 200 donuts in one day with 32 million cash? What would be the best item to buy and sell, blood mobile, KEM? Any advice or suggestions to maximize my efforts is greatly appreciated.

    • If you are able to diligently tap for the next 10 days, I think if you do the math, the 10 day option gives the best bang for your buck. 10 days at 25 donuts, or one day at 5 donuts, you are saving yourself 25 donuts if I did the math right.

      • I’m not looking to max out my level. I just want to get enough donuts (200) to get Frink and his Lab along with his lady bot. I know the 10 day XP multiplier option is the better value for donuts spent vs the one day, but is it possible to earn 200 donuts in one day with just $32 million saved and starting at level 120? And if so what is the most efficient way to do that? If not, how can I reach my goal by investing the minimum amount of donuts necessary? For the most part I am a freemium player, and I want spend as few sprinkles as possible.

        • From what I understand, there is no “maximum” anymore, sure there’s a cap level, but then it keeps going, so not an official cap. Best way to maximize your donuts is KEM farming, been mentioned a few times on here, and I’ve mentioned it myself, I think in last week’s Sunday thread. As for it being possible with 32 mil, it should be, at least for the amount of donuts you are looking to obtain.

        • If you’re looking to only farm for one day, then rat trap trucks are the way to go. I don’t know whether $32M will yield 200 donuts, though… That’s kinda a lot. It also depends on what your XP multiplier is (including your Springfield Heights buildings hidden multipliers).

          • Actually, could you also ready a load of KEM and start 4 hours later, spend on some rat trap trucks while you wait for another load of KEM to finish, etc. No reason to not still do some KEM.

            • True, but only if the cost to build doesn’t significantly exceed your cashincome during that period. Otherwise, you’ll be eating into the cash reserves that could go towards rat trap trucks.

              • I could have a good reply to you, but it would involve math and numbers and I’m not doing that today, but my “feeling” is that KEM are STILL worth it even if considering they’d eat into the cash, it’s just that their main issue is the 4 hour wait and the space needed, not the cost/reward.

          • Are rat trap trucks better to use than bloodmobiles? Not including SH my cash/xp bonus is around 210%. How much bonus can you get from SH? Some of my SH buildings are in storage does that affect the hidden bonus?

            • The dollars-to-donuts ratio is the same on the bloodmobile and the rat trap trucks, but rat trap trucks are more expensive and smaller, so they’re more efficient to farm. And, yes – your Springfield Heights buildings need to be out to earn their hidden XP multiplier. (Items in inventory never help you do anything.)

    • Thanks all,
Got my sprinkles in a matter of minutes after starting up my XP collider for a day and buying bloodmobiles. It took about $30 million. I grabbed up the Frink deal and Springfield of Tomorrow sign right after and still have a 50 donut reserve. I also have plenty of time left on my XP collider, so I’m going to farm some KEMs and see how that pays out.
Again, thanks for all the info. Now let’s tap our way into the future.

  10. Ok this is weird, I’m logged on but when I go to post a message, not seeing the “waiting for moderation” message, and it goes poof also like no message was sent…

    • Mine was doing that last week as well. Plus, it kept logging me out so I was unable to post or like comments for a few days:/

    • I think… I think that maybe if you refresh (after a minute or two) that you’ll see your message. (I haven’t fully tested the issue.)

  11. Is the Gil deal for Future Maggie up already? Thought I had a few more days but it is no longer in my system, was saving up for it too… but typical Gil fashion, had the offer showing for a couple days, now poof, gone.

    • Did you buy the Frink deal? I heard that’s the cause. In my second game I got offered the Gil deal and it still has 2 or 3 days left, just like people are saying that it should.

Or, well, in my second game I hadn’t even started the event, and only started it during act 2…so maybe there was a glitch during the switchover.

  12. Does anyone have a neighbor who is admittedly a hacker? If so, were there robots in their town to tap today?

I’m asking this because I have a neighbor who hacks – her land on Springfield Heights is just as big as her regular Springfield, and even her regular Springfield is waaaaay bigger than it should be. I visited her town yesterday and had no problems finding three robots. Today I have just visited her and there was none. I looked and looked; couldn’t find a single one. There were three actions available but no robots, and no floating icons on buildings, either. I went to other neighbors and had no problems finding robots in their towns; came back to the hacker one and there was still none.

As she is the only one in my neighbors list who I’m absolutely sure that hacks, could someone else check this for me, please? I’m really intrigued.

    • I think you’re probably good on answers already, but on the topic of hacker neighbors… I believe I had one at one point. I also believe that I got rid of them. Now I kinda want one of those neighbors back. I would just hide them (as I was a bit miffed to be spoiled by all the prizes on day one) and unhide them during moments like this to see what’s up.

I wish we had more land in SH, same width as the mountains in Springfield. (I’m not asking for a hack, I’m asking EA to release the land already!)

      • Yes – I need more land released there much more than I do in regular Springfield. To maximize my farming potential, had to take a couple of Springfield Heights buildings out of storage and jam them in, screwing up my aesthetics. 🙁

    • I have a neighbor that didn’t have robots too. I didn’t think anything of it until you made this mention. Thank you!

  13. Wish I would get more straight track for the monorail have over 20 of the others but need straight for my design. New to the monorail since they put it out last month. I guess I will just have to be patient.

  14. Hey hey and happy Tuesday, tappers to my favourite happy Tuesday tappers (grammar and punctuation are important, right Sandra? ;)) In terms of TSTO, I’m enjoying the event so far, even though there have been times I haven’t been particularly enthused about it….but that’s likely mostly because I missed getting Sargeant Skinner but something like 5000 dark matter. Don’t have 295 donuts to get him and even if I did, I’d rather wait for EA to inevitably bring him back for half that down the line. I was just glad to get the holo-theater. Someone posted a picture of their town with it beside the studios and itchy, scratchy, and poochie balloons and I was instantly enamoured with it. I also grabbed the elysium project and I absolutely love it! It’s right up there with the bad dream house in terms of my favourite buildings in the game. Reverend Lovejoy is going to be keeping it animated for me for a loooooong time to come. It reminds me of the Cinesphere that used to be at Ontario Place (Safi and my fellow Ontarians will likely remember how cool it was….think imax but in a big sphere theatre).

In personal happenings, this is the last week of summer vacation for me. I spent the last four days back at the cottage and we squeezed in swimming, fudge, and another horseback ride. Now I’m preparing to go to a comic/sci-fi convention on Friday. I’m going to meet Christopher Lloyd from back to the future and one of the creators of marvel comics, Stan Lee! After that, it’s final prep before school starts up again. It hasn’t hit me yet that this is my last week off, but I’m sure it will soon….until then, I get to tap and relax a little more.

    Have a great week all!

    • I forgot everything you said after you said you’re meeting Christopher Lloyd and Stan Lee! How neat!!

      • I don’t blame you. If someone said the same to me, I would’ve zoned out at “comic/sci-fi convention”! It’s stan’s last canadian appearance (at 94 I don’t blame him) so it’s extra special 🙂 I’ll post an update in the next open thread!

    • I missed out on the final reward, I wish they would do like they did before and let you keep going until you complete the first task before you move onto the second stage. I often take a while to get into the swing of an event.

      • I agree. I’d forgotten about the previous way the prize track worked until someone mentioned it in one of the posts, but that would’ve definitely been preferable. I’m just grateful that he wasn’t a character I had extremely strong feelings for. Made skipping/waiting for a re-release much easier.

  15. Well, after years of careful designing, combining any buildings I could in an attempt to save space, I’m at real risk of running out of room for new stuff. I may need to start tearing down my more elaborate designs, and that makes me sad. I hope the next event follows in the footsteps of this one and adds more land.

  16. Putting this out there: My wish for TOH this year is a Stranger Things mashup. It must happen. Couch gag with Christmas lights hanging on the wall, spelling out The Simpsons. Tell me I’m not alone in my need for this to happen!

    • Lol – I just binge watched the entire series yesterday! That would be a good couch bag, but I’d add a sudden bulging out of the wall behind the couch, too. 😉

      • Uhm. The entire series???????? Holyfreakinshirt!

So. There are 596 episodes of the Simpsons. They are an average of 22.5 minutes long. That’s 13,410 minutes, or 223.5 hours or 9.3 days of continuous, uninterrupted watching. How long are the days in your world, Sandra? Or are you messing with a wormhole again to keep looping time?

        Just sayin’…

        • Lol – no! The entire first season of Stranger Things (8 episodes). Did my comment not post as a reply to the person who was suggesting making a Stranger-Things-related couch gag? If not, then I can see how WordPress’ screwup might have confused you! 😀

          • Hi Sandra
You might want to pop in at tapped-out.co.uk and ask someone to pm you the answer to THE question…
            (& yes, being deliberately cryptic…)
            (& yes, all are welcome…)

            • Thanks – I did and I’m all set now! 🙂

Part of me is wondering whether this more of an “Easter egg” than a glitch, because I can’t see how it could happen by accident, coding-wise. I mean, with the “unlimited KEMs for $220” thing, it makes sense how they could have done that by mistake, but with this?? I dunno….

        • Aren’t there way more episodes of The Simpsons than that?

  17. could someone help me out- what is the best thing to spend donuts on if I do not want to buy them with real money? The other day I had 100 donuts saved up and I spent them all on the mystery boxes, giving me 3 lard lads and two new characters, however, i feel i could have got something better if i saved for longer. This time I do not want to make the same mistake, therefore I am asking the question, what is the best item/building to spend donuts on?

  18. Um “how”, not, er what appeared. … ‘pologies. ..

  19. Now that I have the Power Plant Parking next to Burn’s Soul Collector, the differences from original design to new design could not be more obvious! Both seem to be 7 stories high, but hoe the heck do all our plant workers get into that tiny tower 🙂

  20. Tracy - 1ltwoody920

    Spoiler Alert
Act 2 will, give us prizes of an “older” Bart and an “older” Lisa
    Baa-Haa-Haa. Thirty minutes early
Of course, by the time this is approved, the event will be upon us.
So that makes this spoiler about as shocking as “streaking” in your own home with the curtains drawn
And with the lights turned off
    And at half past midnight.

  21. Who else thinks its crazy there are some items that you cant sell like i have a few items in my inventory that i dont need and i cant sell them so they are just sitting there taking up space on that note i think it would be amazing if we could give or trade items that we dont need/use with our neighbors that would free up so much space in my inventory

  22. You’re from Jersey, too? Nice!

  23. Hello everyone, it is extremely difficult for me to ask for help but in this case I must. A very close friend of mine whom I consider a sister has befallen a terrible tragedy last week. While on her way to work/school with her two young children they were involved in a horrific accident. The truck went off the road into 20 ft of water. Even with the fight and strength of an amazing mother and strangers to lend a helping hand, they were unable to rescue her only two children. This is insanely difficult for me to put into words and love them all from the bottom of my heart. If anyone can help we have created a gofundme site to assist them with whatever their needs be. Even $5 would be appreciated. Thank you for reading and please pass the link below on to anyone you can. Kaitlyn and Hailey you will forever be missed.

    • bro, my deepest sympathy goes out to you and yours. i’ve always been pretty reserved when it comes to expressing and commenting on personal matters like this online, but i couldn’t escape the gut wrenching feeling i experienced after reading your post. as the father of two boys, there is no greater loss imaginable. i hope your friend can find the strength to carry on… i honestly don’t know if i could……

      • Thanks bud, I’m right there with you. I’ve never been one for putting stuff like this out. Mainly why I’m not on any social media. I’ve never felt more helpless and lost for words. This was all I could think of at the moment.

    • That is so incredibly sad – you have my sincerest condolences.

    • That has to be one of the worst nightmares anyone could have happen. My deepest condolences to the family and those touched by this tragedy. I Tweeted the gofundme page, I know it isn’t in the least bit much but I hope it will help.

    • Sincerest condolences and deepest sympathies to you, your dear friend, and your families. So very sorry for your tremendous loss.

    • My sincere condolences, the loss of children is horrific to say the least. My thoughts and prayers will be with you, your friend and family.

  24. I have noticed since playing this game I’ve increased my consumption of donuts. I used to want them about twice a year and now it’s about once or twice a week. I am wondering if I’m alone in the focusing on getting donuts makes you want to eat them. 🙂

    • You know, there’s time when I’ve gone out after playing and I think donuts sound good right about now. Unfortunately there’s nowhere to get “good” donuts where I live. Maybe it’s not the worst thing…🍩😉

    • Since when does one need an excuse to eat a doughnut? 🤔

  25. Wookiee, in an episode of Laugh it up Fuzzball, (I think it was 2) you mentioned how The Simpsons was a part of our culture wether we liked it or not. Well in gifted today, we were reading October Sky by Homer Hickam, and on the board my teacher wrote, “What are some qualities of Homer ‘Sonny’ Simpson” when she meant to say Hickam. She didn’t even notice until I pointed it out. So yeah. The Simpsons is a part of everyone’s culture, wether they like it or not.

    P.S. I love your podcast.

  26. I finished a 10-day cycle of KEM farming with the XP Collider. Fortunately, the four-hour KEM build coincided with the four-hour SciFighter mini game, so I didn’t drive myself crazy logging in to tap. Although after 10 days, I certain was done building KEMs. I know that some tappers have the XP Collider on continuously, but it takes a lot of patience to keep it going.

I started the XP Collider at Level 450, and my goal was to level up high enough to finish off the Homerlayas, but I was able to reach Level 939 on the final day of the cycle. Whew! At least I have a nice pile of donuts to rest my weary tapping fingers on.

    • WOW! What is your bonus percent and how many KEM’s did you build each cycle?

      • My bonus is about 254 percent (I got very lucky crafting the spooky walls from the Halloween event last year). I found a chart online that showed the efficiency of farming 25 KEMs at a time, so I basically followed that, five times a day.

When I started the KEM farming, however, each one was $220, a glitch that I took advantage of by farming 100 at a time. But that lasted only a few days, and it was hard farming that many every four hours anyway.

Toward the end of the cycle, I had money to burn, so I increased the farming to 50 KEMs, which cost about $1 million each cycle because of the higher price of the KEM, but it doubled my donut intake. In the last few minutes, I spent about $20 million on bloodmobiles, which took me to Level 939 (plus a few bonus rounds).

If you can keep up with the farming, it’s definitely worth it.

        • yeah, during that glitch, i got seriously burnt out farming so many KEMs at one time. thank goodness i didn’t really have the space for more than i did…..

normally, i farm 48 KEMs roughly every 4 hours, 4 times day. with the bonus i have and the payout i receive, this allows me to practice sustainable farming with a small profit.

    • I find that it’s difficult to keep up with, too. Mentally, that is.

I think the deal with keeping it on 24/7 is that you basically do the minimum, where you don’t try to earn as many donuts as possible but simply earn a few more than the 25 donuts cost. If you average more than 2.5 donuts per day (say, 3 donuts per day) then you have paid for the 10 day collider and earned a few extra donuts.

For me, I earn about 3 donuts each four hours. I do that 3 or 4 times a day during the 10 day period. But, to keep my mental faculties in place for a longer period, I could just do the one round per day and I’d come out ahead 5 donuts each refill.

Congrats on reaching the final level. I’m in the 700s right now. One more 10 day collider session and I should be on the final level, too.

      • I thought about doing a more relaxed pace for the farming, but I was logging in every four hours anyway to do the SciFighter mini game, and I couldn’t resist farming, especially after I realized that Level 939 was achievable.

After the event is over, I might set up a small KEM farm to generate a few extra donuts. I’d rather do that than grind for donuts with the recycling tasks.

        • Yep. Compared to recycling it’s way easier. Even better than visiting Krustyland for 6 months… About the same as Where’s Maggie. I haven’t sent Homer or Lisa to clean up debris in forever… I think that’s all of them. 😀

          • Now that they’ve cut the recycling goal down from 70,000 to 25,000, it’s pretty easy to knock out, even if you need some of the characters to do other stuff. And it gives you something else to do, if you want to play a bit more “strategically.”

  27. The last two times I got daily challenges that payed future bucks I cancelled them, and ended up with tasks for 6 donuts both times 🙂 I was going for dark matter or robot parts, but I certainly wasn’t going to turn down donuts lol.

  28. A couple random things Ive noticed:

When in editor mode, the south eastern most (with mountains as west) land shows a blue line two new land squares along, as if to say two new columns of land will be available there.

Secondly, when looking at the north western most point, the mountains actually end three rows along. There is a visible end point to them where they would then allow you to go round to the heights side unimpeded, as it were.

Whether any of this means anything or is a temporary visual before further expansions etc is, of course, anyones guess.

  29. How do you get 150% XP from Springfield Heights? I have all of my Heights buildings out but I only have 85% and that’s from premium items. Do you have to place the add-ons too?

    • There is no display that tells you what your XP bonus percentage is. If you are looking at the conform-o-meter, that number is your bonus percentage for money and XP. In other words, your XP (alone) bonus is a number that is higher than that number.

    • The Springfield Heights bonus does not appear in the conform-o-meter percentage, it is hidden. The buildings must be out in your town to get the bonus.

      Deluxe Condo 1% each x 10 = 10%
      Business Center 2% each x 10 = 20%
      Classic Mansion 4% each x 10 = 40%
      Modern Mansion 5% each x 10 = 50%
      Valet Parking 3% each x 10 = 30%
      Private Island 1% must be level 2 x 3 = 3%

      Total out in town 153%

  30. I need just over 1500 to make the last prize, so it’s touch and go. It may hinge on whether I get a task that awards dark matter tonight. I’m loving the challenge of this event!

    • Don’t lose hope entirely. You can get this in four rounds of the polyvac game/characters jobs if you’re entirely freemium. 165 from character jobs each cycle, 80 from robots in your town, and 130 from the polyvac game. That’s a polyvac score you can get with a winning game and only 20 robots killed. 165 + 80 + 130 = 375. Times this by four visits and you’ve got your 1500. It’s totally doable. With a round of neighbour visits or a daily challenge it’ll be even easier.

      • Yeah absolutely, but I’ll likely only get 3 more rounds, one tonight, one tomorrow morning and one after school just after 1pm. The act ends at 5pm my time haha. Not giving up though.
