Christmas Eve Open Thread

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Merry Christmas Eve and Happy First Night (almost) of Hanukkah! Busy weekend!

Well it’s finally here…Christmas Eve! And that means Santa’s coming…tonight!  Woohoo!

Santa

I know many of you will be spending today with your families or doing last minute shopping…so I thought it’d be a perfect time for a Christmas Eve Open Thread!

Chat about the event, Snowsuit Maggie joining our games, your Christmas plans…or anything else you can think of!  Just no Add me requests…those should go here. And as always just keep it PG.

Merry Christmas Eve!

P.S.  I’ll be spending the day with my in-laws out of state, so I’ll try to moderate when I can…my apologies for any delays.

P.P.S. If you need help with Act 2 of the event, most of the info can be found on our Winter  2016 Page.  So check that out to see if your question has already been answered 🙂

  1. Chronic crashes? Ever since this winter update my game crashes constantly – I can’t visit neighbors and can barely play in my own town. Anyone else experiencing this? Solutions?

    • Horribly. Between that and “the doughnut deal” I haven’t played in 2 days, the longest break since I started playing.

  2. Special Xmas Reply for Suerees my neighbour & Sandrashill. I make my own pavlova. Hubby isn’t into fruit; So I long ago went with the crumbled up choc bars as my topping. As my now adult daughters grew I added the strawberry edges & cream swirls for them.

If you see this Sue; Congrats to the Doggies football Grand Final win from a Swans household. The only awkward moment @ Xmas table was when new Son In Law revealed he was a Bulldogs supporter! I’ll take that over fisticuffs every time! Cheers to all!

    • Who could deny that the doggies deserved a win after about 60 years!!! Very brave son-in -law you have there. Good for him coming clean with his loyalties.
My husband is with you on the Swans. It’s a family tradition for him, going back centuries 😉
The pav is a family tradition on my side. My Mum has been the one to produce one every Christmas and birthday but she has now passed on the banner to me. It’s now my job to produce one every Christmas and birthday celebration. Have a great New Year, Karon🎊🍾🎉

  3. Hey, tappers… I wonder if this happens to anyone else. Sometimes when I am tapping away at the pesky gnome, collecting his loot, the game suddenly wrenches me away from where he is–to some random other part of my Springfield or even beyond my claimed land. And then I cannot for the life of me get back to where he is. So I get timed out and get an “Oops.” If anyone else has experienced this–do you have a fix?

  4. Interesting occurrence on my latest Bonuts round/ mini game.
I used Alissa’s strategy and was awarded 3 donuts,
I then received a message telling me to continue collecting broaches, only 5500 more until I could once again get Bonuts.

And when I once again tapped on a Roaming Pagan, I learned I only needed 5400 Broaches to play the Bonut game.

    Meh, just interesting.

  5. Any chance someone out there can confirm for me if the “Dunking Device” can go on the boardwalk tiles?

    • Yes it can. I was wondering if I should get this and did just because there is not much else to choose from after getting everything else I wanted. It is underwhelming in my opinion.

    • CORRECTION GANG – I messed up here saying the “Dunking Machine” can be placed on the boardwalk. (maybe, I don`t know) I was referring to the “Dunk the Monk” not thinking there is a “Dunking Machine” also. I hope I didn`t mislead anyone.

  6. I Wish they would have offered Santa and the Grumble with all the premium offers this year. It’s Christmas after all! Instead I can get a dancing reindeer and a guy dressed like a candy cane. Come on EA…

  7. Has anyone had the “princess nerd” quest line pop up? It did for me. Everything I read about it online is that it was a limited time thing from 2014. I’m now stuck, because part 2 requires me to buy something with donuts that I don’t want.

  8. If you buy donuts right now you get bonus items and or characters!

  9. The wife got me a refurbished iPad 3 for Christmas (she says she got tired of hearing me yelling at my old iPad 2 whenever it crashed…which was getting to be more often than not…TSTO, Facebook, Flipboard, basically any app that was open, it would be guaranteed to crash) so I loaded up TSTO and noticed when playing, that my Springfield is at maximum zoom in by default, where the old iPad 2 was at maximum zoom out by default. I’ll zoom out and do my thing and when I visit Krustyland or a neighbor, it is zoomed in all the way again.

I’ve looked in settings, but can’t see anything to set the zoom back to all the way zoomed out. Is this something we can control? Otherwise, with my Springfield being the maximum size (only have 5 tiles to buy to have all land bought) takes longer to scroll through with it zoomed in like that.

    • My new pad is “zoomed in” also (tho, not at maximum) when I start the game. First thing I always do is “zoom out” as far as I can go to see the most of my town before tapping.

  10. Crafting – Broaches to Runestones
Part 2 of considering rate of return – as I try to maximize my Bonuts
Most items are an 80% return on investment.
    Exceptions

    Banners yield 83%
    Large Mushroom 83%
    Cauldron 83%

    Small Pagan Tent yields 81%
    Chicken Coop 81%
    Goat head 81%

Craft knowingly – before you craft and stuff into storage, be a smart investor, consider YIELD.
    😇😇

    • Wish I knew what items would eventually yield XP bonuses…my bet is anything that they can sell as a retread at Halloween…cauldrons, mushrooms, braziers, pagan tents…those are the items that I am tucking away for Fall, even tho they are not a “Best Buy”.

    • I posted a full list of the returns for all of the non-unique items earlier.

  11. Mystery Box – Tickets to donut Ratio
FWIW, most items have a 6:1 ratio, exceptions
    Festive Trash Can Fire. 6.7:1
    Eggnog Bar. 7.2:1
    Elf House 7.2:1
    Duff Arena. 8.6:1
    Candy Kevin. 9:1
    Murderhorn. 10:1

And the one I can’t recall the name, third option,
    LOP. 5.25:1

Candy Kevin might be a good deal at a mere 30 donuts

  12. Either fate or EA hates me. Out of the six mystery boxes I’ve opened I got all the items I *really* didn’t want or didn’t have no feelings either way about. Very sad and disappointing. All the stuff I did want is still sitting in the mystery boxes, starring at me. Am I the only one who couldn’t get any of the good stuff out of those boxes?

    Helter Shelter
    Fort – didn’t want
Ice rink – semi didn’t want
North Pole train station – the one item in all the boxes I truly didn’t want
    The Yes guy
Skin for Burns – didn’t want and have no need for

  13. Any help would be nice!

Ice princess pt2…. am I supposed to buy the castle to finish the quest? I am stuck there and don’t know what to do.

    Thanks!

  14. Merry Christmas everyone!
I have a question about the Plow King skin for Barney. He is the only item option for me in the gold package. I’m not sure if I’ll have enough gift cards to outright buy him by the end of the event but I’m willing to spend a few donuts to get it if I don’t. Is there still a quest line for him? Does he have any visible tasks as Plow King? I thought I read some people saying the quest line was gone. Thanks

    • One possibility is that it is dormant until the event is over; I’ve had that happen a few times.

    • I leave Barney in his plow king skin all the time, he earns premium with it and has a full set of tasks (visual tasks for 4 hrs and 24hrs). It is one of my favorite skins, and one of the few where he isn’t fall-down drunk.

  15. I think this may be it for me. I was so upset with the Shelbyville/”Doughnut Deal”, I didn’t play for a day and a half, which is the longest break I’ve had in years. Now, every time I play, I get more and more disinterested. My gnome has probably been ready about 4 hours now, just don’t want to play. EA got too greedy. I hope I’ll get back into it but if not, I’ll save a ton of money. If I do probably won’t ever spend another dollar again.

    • Sorry to hear it. Entertainment is first and foremost a business, and any endeavor needs to be sufficiently profitable to continue providing their product. The new models depend so much more on direct support from the individual consumer, so I understand how greedy/grabby it can seem. However, it can be much more streamlined and beneficial, since it cuts out a number of middlemen. For my part, when I look at where my money goes, I can prioritize and make better decisions. Whether we realize it or not, we’re constantly voting with our wallets.

  16. Alissa, no apologies needed. Spending time with family is equally important, Christmas or not!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone here!

  17. Merry celebrations to everyone.
May you all have a fabulous time, surrounded by family and friends!
    🎁🎉🍸🎉🎁

  18. Lovely picture! Happy Christmas from the UK, 9 am here, the big man has been, presents opened from Santa, (family presents under the tree don’t get opened till after lunch for us!). Kids disappeared with their presents and just contemplating when to have our bacon sandwich before stating preparing Xmas lunch, happy times!

  19. Merry Christmas to all! I’ts now nearly 6pm Christmas Day in Melbourne Australia as I type. We had the aircon on overnight as it’s been quite hot here & cooking the traditional roast turkey & all meant extra heat from my new Smeg oven. (I love my new kitchen!)

My granddaughter’s 1st Christmas. 8 months old & heavily into ripping paper! None of my 3 adult daughters insulted each other or came to fisticuffs; So I’d call that a good day for the month’s work that went into the event.

Leftover pavlova anyone? It’s peppermint crisp & flake chocolate bars as topping! Strawberries round the edges!

    • Yes, please – I’d love some leftover Pavlova! 🙂

Sounds like you had a lovely Christmas…hope you have a happy New Year, too!

    • Hi Karon, I made pavlova too. Mine was more traditional, passion fruit, strawberries and raspberries. Yours sound fantastic. I’ll have to give it a try next time I make one. Glad to hear your family behaved. That always makes for a pleasant time. I was anticipating some sort of argument but all went well so more than happy with that.
The weather is cooling down a bit now. I like Melbourne weather. It never stays the same for too long.
      Happy New Year!!

  20. Alissa, no Grumble’s “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” this year?

The grumble wasn’t even offered this year.

  21. Well I recently put a big chunk of money into the game! Which i very rarley do and ive never put this much in at once. I put 25 dollars so I could get the founders. And with that large sum of donuts bought Frinks lab, the snow monster, Frosty the hitman, and a reindeer. But now I got 115 donuts burning a hole in my cupboard and I’m wondering what I should blow a bit of it on? Should I save up? Or should I buy myself a moleman…..or maybe something you guys suggest?

    • Save it. There are some characters coming after Act II is done that you can see in your Character Collection inventory. I bet some of them will be premium. If you still have some left over after that, then I would get Luann, Duffman, or Barney if you don’t already have them. Any of the classic premium characters that are always in the store are a good bet.

  22. Merry Christmas \(^o^)/

  23. Just got the star snowsuit for Maggie!! Bonuts here we come!!! 🍩🍩🍩🍩

    Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄☃️🎄☃️

PS: my Mom got out of the hospital today after getting double pneumonia. BEST Christmas present ever 😀

  24. Merry Christmas 🙂

  25. Been down with a stomach flu (what’re the odds of getting sick on Christmas Eve? A million to one!) Didn’t care much for the mass evacuations, but I’ve certainly been enjoying the bed rest.

Just wanted to leave this for everyone: Well worth the watch, and it’s always good to appreciate all the hard work and awful things that so many people have done and put up with to get us where we are!

  26. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Holidays, Seasons Greetings, and a Happy Festivus to the rest of yas! I hope you all have wonderful days filled with family, friends, food and fun 😀 I’ll be spending the day with both my mum and my dad’s side of the family (my paternal grandpa made it up this year for the first time since I was hospitalized so I’m super excited!) as well as going to church, having turkey, watching christmas movies, and of course, tapping my way to snowsuit maggie!

Also, I’m really looking forward to seeing more pictures of Miss Riley on instagram; she’s such a cutie! I assume she’s been a very good girl this year so I bet she’s looking forward to a visit from the big man himself (no, I don’t mean Wookiee) 😉

  27. Wishing everyone the happiest of the season. And hoping that everyone at least gets some good quality rest this time.
Also, I’m hoping for a better 2017, for anyone (like me), who’s had a rough one ..
Also, thank you for this wonderful site, that turns a fun distraction, into a fulfilling pastime.

  28. Happy Christmas everyone! It’s 12:35 in the U.K. and I’m just back from Midnight Mass at my church. Lovely service as always. Time for me to head straight to bed, got a extremely excitable 4 year old Godson to cope with in about 6 hours time and I need as much energy as possible.

Hope you all have a lovely Christmas and New Year!

  29. First of all, could Riley get any cuter? Didn’t think it was possible the last time a pic was posted.

Second of all, happy holidays everyone.

Lastly, I just won Mr. Plow with tickets. Thought it may be worth noting you don’t automatically unlock the skin once it is received. You have to go into inventory and “use” it before you can find the skin on Homer, or I’m guessing the Plow King respectively on Barney.

  30. As we would say in Wales: Nadolig Llawen.

Well, some would say it anyway: there’s a huge chunk that don’t know Welsh.
