In-Game Update: Homer the Heretic

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Well good morning to everyone…and what a Godly morning it is in Springfield as the Homer the Heretic mini-event, the event about Homer sampling a variety of religions, has hit our games!

We’ve all been waiting, and waiting, for the items teased before Christmas to hit our games and the time has finally arrived!

Let me note first that the Mystery Box is gone, as is the Gnome in Your Home Game, as the in game timer has finally run out on both of those.

And one more note, this event will trigger for you if you’re at Level 15 and have started Is There An Al Coholic Here Pt 1.  (the questline to get Marge)

Things get started with some dialogue between Homer and Marge followed by a 6s task for Homer.  This will launch the mini event, and will be followed by a 4hr task for both Apu and Homer.  (this will unlock Sunday Morning Homer)

So now let’s take a look at the rest of the details for this mini event….

Remember this is an automatic update in your game.  Nothing to download.  So if you’re not seeing it, and you’ve reached Level 15 or higher and started Is There An Al Coholic Here Pt. 1, try hard closing and restarting TSTO (and your device).  If you still don’t see it try uninstalling and reinstalling TSTO.

The Homer the Heretic Event Ends January 18th

2017-01-03-03-18-14

This event is laid out like the previous mini events we’ve seen, (Most recently Thanksgiving 2016 (Most Dangerous Game))  .  Where you follow a series of tasks to unlock prizes.  The prizes could be items, they could be skins for a character or they could just be animated tasks for existing characters.  We’ll cover the rundown of how you unlock each prize in the Turbo Tappin’ Post (I’ll have that up later today).  First, let’s get started with the new items that appear in the store…

New stuff…

charactersets_brotherfaith brother_faith_vanBrother Faith and his Van- 110 Donuts

faketollboothFake Toll Booth- 30 Donut

Returning

Father SeanFather Sean- 135 Donuts, 35 Donuts rebate. Net 100 donuts.  Yes, Fr. Sean makes a rare appearance for this event.  Fitting.  Should I Buy (thanks to a few of you in the comments for confirming and telling me about the rebates)

churchflipped_decorated_transimageSponsored Church- 10 Donuts. This is a facade for the First Church of Springfield.

For those of you looking for Rabbi K (as is shown in the Character Set AND the event panels) he’ll be hitting our games in about a week.  He will be premium, so save up those donuts.  Right now he’s projected to cost around 150 donuts, BUT EA can change that at any time before he’s actually in the store.

Now let’s talk about the prizes…. (and again I’ll have the breakdown on how to get each one in the Turbo Tappin’ post, which will be up later today)

homer_sundaymorning_menuSunday Morning Homer 100ico_cur_homertheheretic_luckypenny_lg

You may have noticed I used ico_cur_homertheheretic_luckypenny_lg for the prizes, this is Karma and the item you’ll need to collect to unlock the prizes.

How do you earn Karma?  Well just like other mini events you can earn Karma by sending various characters on 4hr tasks.  Freemium characters earn 10ico_cur_homertheheretic_luckypenny_lg each task and Premium characters earn 20 ico_cur_homertheheretic_luckypenny_lg each task.

Brother Faith, the new premium character, will help earn Karma. (Crazy Cat Lady is the other Premium character that will help)

I’ll break down who can help earn for each task in the Turbo Tappin’ Post. But for Part 1, which will be 4hrs, you’ll need Homer, Moe, Apu, Kirk & Bart.

After you complete Pt.1 you will also unlock the Penny Fountain (for free)

2017-01-03-03-26-03

This will earn you 1 Karma ico_cur_homertheheretic_luckypenny_lg every 5 minutes, and will max out at 60ico_cur_homertheheretic_luckypenny_lg over a 5hr period.

And that’s it my friends, all there is to the Homer the Heretic Event!

What are your thoughts on the mini event? Anything you’re excited to see? Not excited to see? Ready for a nice low key fun event? Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Also 3% bonus with Brother Faith

  2. “For those of you looking for Rabbi K (as is shown in the Character Set AND the event panels) he’ll be hitting our games in about a week.”

Oooh, good to know that he’s premium. Am running low on sprinkle, so am definitely waiting for Rabbi K. Thanks for the heads-up!

  3. When i seen Brother Faith this morning had to snap him up and at a good price 110 sprinklers. I HAVE THE POW..ER 😅

  4. I was hoping “The Princess Nerd Pt. 2” task would go away in my task list. Now, it is there, but there is nothing to tap.

  5. Do you have to collect from the fountain every 5 minutes or will the coins accumulate so you can just collect 60 every 5 hours?

  6. I’ve been excitedly waiting for Father Sean to come back to the store. Picked him up as soon as I saw him! Now I’m eagerly waiting for a SIB for Brother Faith. 🙂

In other news, my Characters can generate 70 Karma every 4 hours.
    Or 210 in twelve hours
Once I have the fontain, 60 every 5 hours.
    Or 120 in ten hours
Playing a twelve hour day yields 330 every twelve hours, which is
    990 in three days – and I only need 980 (?)
Even without the fountain, I can hit 1050 in five days.
Hmmm, obviously no “need” to purchase Brother Faith.

    • I also don’t need him, but I bought him anyway. I am a freemiumprimium player 🙂

      • Me too, already had Father Sean (and had only one character/item available in the gift boxes), so was happy to have a new addition. I also bought the tollbooth…don’t care so much about tha “karma” it generates, but it looks great in the Duff Stadium parking lot.
        “10 donuts/day to park here, lady…”

    • I’m afraid it’s not cumulative, i.e. you’ll need 100+260+460+…

    Intriguing situations this morning.
First I cleaned up my Christmas Lights (home and Springfield), then

I stored my NPC Dancing Reindeer – and I got a prompt to tap the Dancing Reindeer and a dialogue from Lisa and Homer regarding the DR being a man in a suit.

    Then,
I received a prompt that my Gnome had left the box, was roaming Springfield and that I should find him. He was still in his box.

I regretted not getting him a couple of years ago. Got him this time instantly at 310am. Also I really wish EA would make things like the turned over beer truck able to go on the street where all trucks turn over it looks big enough to go in a lot or field.

    • Agreed. It should be possible to put all vehicles on the roads… they take up unnecessary space otherwise.

  10. I opened my game this morning all excited to buy (or learn how to earn) Rabbi K (FINALLY he has shown up) only to be disappointed he wasn’t availible right away.
Now I see you mentioned he has been delayed in the recantation machine for another week.

  11. Does Father Sean earn event currency (Karma)?? Is he of any use in the event?

Or should I buy Brother Faith instead, who’s roughly the same price but who DOES earn event currency (Karma)??

  12. Not buying Crazy Cat Lady at Halloween is really turning into a giant mistake.

    • lol especially when she helped in the Halloween event, Pagan event & now in this one as well

My advice: NEVER ever pass on a rebate on a character. I regretted (slightly) not buying Gino when he was offered on a rebate on Black Friday, when I saw that he helped during the Pagan event.

  13. I just bought brother Faith and my ow my righteousness has dropped 3 stars on my conform o meter. What gives?

    • That used to happen to me every other event. It should go back up when this one’s over.

    • It’s probably just a coincidence… Righteousness has a habit of doing that from time to time, unless you protect it by buying and placing a ton of training walls (or Nero walls, I think). If you have enough of those, your righteousness rating will never drop again, no matter how much you’re gratified or anything else. It’s probably been close to two years since mine has dropped.

  14. Hello everybody,
What do you think about Father Sean for 100 donuts? Good deal?
    Couldn`t win him Easter 2014 🙁
    Thx for your answers 😉

  15. Anyone have Brother Faith? is he voiced

  16. Looking forward to the SIB of Brother Faith. Just read up on it and he looks hilarious: quite true to life too 😉

  17. Father Sean is cool but I’m saving my sprinkles for Rabbi K. Maybe I have to give up my freemium game style for him too 🙂

  18. I am so so sad the gnome in a box didn’t become a permanent mini game 🙁 I will miss his evil laugh and crazy vocals! I wish EA could have made it pay out something, anything: cash, XP, monorail items would be cool, or SH items (but I don’t need those any more)!

    • I was hoping for the same thing, too. As creepy as the Gnome was, his dialogue and laughter began to grown on me.

    • I think it’s odd we didn’t have the option to even just buy the gnome – I can’t remember any other events where you couldn’t buy the things we squished or that popped up.

Still bummed no option to buy the Starfish Maggie for donuts either…I just missed her in my A game 😱 That’s what I get for not worrying about it and saving my donuts!

      • We weren’t able to buy any of the ratwolf monsters from Halloween, which disappointed many of us, now no ability to have Pagans walking around or the Gnome this past event. I hope this isn’t a new trend. 😰 The last NPCs I recall being able to purchase post-event were Brutus & the Prospector (which I thought were very blah) from the Old West Event (though there may have another event after I’m not recalling).

    • I was thinking that about the casinos.
Still don’t get why they didn’t leave ’em active and let us play with in-game cash. (Not like the cash is worth a whole lot anymore)

  19. Thank you, Alissa!
Really appreciate you getting up at such a ridiculous hour (for you) to provide those of us in more ‘civilised’ time zones, with this info…
    😄👍😄👍😄

  20. Father Sean no brained on his bike woohoo

  21. Yaaaaaay! Father Sean ♡
First task to ride his motorcycle. ..JOY! 😀

  22. There’s a 35 donut rebate on Sean (so the effective cost is 100) but I’m sure someone else has already pointed that out.

  23. SUNDAY MORNING HOMER!!! Yesssssss…. OMG I can’t wait to get his dancing in his underwear animation. Such a classic moment. I love this game 😛

  24. FYI- Father Sean was 135 donuts for me with a 35 donut rebate so net 100 sprinkles.

  25. Father Sean cost 135 with an 35 Donut Rebate .

  26. I have Father Sean for 135 donuts with a 35 donuts rebate in the store.

  27. Huzzah! Father Sean has been top of my wishlist for a LONG time. I bought him in a heartbeat. Pretty pleased with the prizes available so far and relieved that I didn’t give into temptation and spend sprinkles on mystery gift boxes. Bring it on!

  28. YEAH! Father Sean has escaped from the wHELL of Misfortune!
I grabbed him as sooon as he was available

  29. I wonder if they had this planned all along or if they quickly made it to pander to all the ‘offended’ people over the Xmas event?

    • I think people were more offended because they were expecting a modern day 21st century holiday event. The Pagan stuff threw them off.
This pokes fun a religion even more. So I don’t think it’s to “pander”.

There was evidence in the files of many of these items when the Winter Event hit, just weren’t categorized as Homer the Heretic. So I do think this was planned for awhile.

      • We Dutch know Pander a a furniture and former airplane builder.

        • Tracy - 1ltwoody920

A good friend of mine is from Boston – I can assure you that Pander is a cute Black and White Bear, originally from China, that likes to eat Bamboo shoots.

      • I can understand being disappointed by the theme of the event and not having enough Santa/elves etc, but people were truly getting their knickers in a twist over the apparent slight towards Christianity (despite Paganism predating and influencing all Christmas traditions). The outcry was that if they included the Pagan origins, then why not also have Hanukkah or other religious observations? You’re right that it’s not so much pandering – having Homer essentially following all the religions at once is more like them thumbing their noses at the complainers and saying “happy now?!”. Either way, I’ll continue to enjoy these events 🙂

        • I think (some) were just using that as an argument to make their point. Because they won’t complain about this one…which to religions is way worse.

          • It’s funny; if you listen to the DVD commentary for “Homer the Heretic,” you learn that the main writer was *really* resentful of his parents taking him to church every Sunday as a child, and he intended this episode to be a big f-you to organized religion. He was disappointed to learn that the episode is super popular with religious types.
