Should I Spend Donuts on the Jazz Hole & Bleeding Gums Murphy?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Hope you’ve got your dancing shoes on and your cell phones ready to light up the night because Homerpalooza has arrived in Springfield!  That’s right the rock fest has begun!  Our stores are now jam-packed with premium items just tempting us to drop our sprinkles on!

Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to grab everything in sight because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the Jazz Hole and BGM to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this heavenly Jazz duo to your town…

Size:
4×8
Conform-O-Meter:
Gluttony +10

Pros
-It’s Bleeding Gums Murphy, one of the BIGGEST requested characters in recent memory (this of course is after some other characters made the game), behind only Troy McClure (or any Phil Hartman Character)
-Big help with Jam Sessions, starts out earning at a higher rate than the others

Cons
-Not voiced
-Pricey for a character/building combo

Final Thought
Premium:
It doesn’t really matter what I say here, most of you that are premium players already picked BGM up, simply because it’s BGM.  I know many of you (Patric included) were prepared to spend over 200 donuts for him, so to see him at 165 donuts felt like a steal and you grabbed him immediately.  I get it. That’s why your a premium player.  To jump on the characters you want.  And truth be told, I got him too.

Freemium:
Here’s the deal on this one…while yes, it is Bleeding Gums Murphy he’s over priced. WAY over priced.  Yes I know 165 is way less than what many of you thought he would be, but from a practical sense it’s over priced.  And in recent months we’ve seen characters return at a discounted rate (or in Mystery Boxes).  So personally, if I was a Freemium player I’d wait on BGM.  The Sungazer combo comes with TWO characters to help with the event (Act 1) & it’s cheaper.  That’s a far better deal than this one, if you’re buy it for a practical purpose.
Of course being that it’s Bleeding Gums Murphy I’m sure most of you aren’t paying attention to practical purposes and you’ve already jumped on him. BUT if you haven’t…I’d pick up the Sungazer duo instead and wait until the end of the event to get BGM.  If you still have the donuts and want him, then get him at the end but pass for now.

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do…and as I premium player I can tell you I’ll be picking him up.   But whatever you decide, just make sure you make your final decision before he leaves our games for good (or for now).

Here’s a look at his tasks…

Bleeding Gums Murphy’s Permanent Tasks:

Task Length Earns Location
Catch Up on Modern Music 1hr $105, 26xp Brown House
Play Jazz 4hrs $260, 70xp Outside/Visual
Hoard Faberge Eggs 8hrs $420, 105xp Outside/Visual
Listen to Sax on the Beach 12hrs $600, 150xp Jazz Hole
Hangout and Jam 24hrs $1,000, 225xp Jazz Hole

What are your thoughts on Bleeding Gums and the Jazz Hole?  Will you be spending the donuts to bring them to your Springfield? Did you already?  Why or why not?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. This is a Music Event. Of course buy Bleeding Gums Murphy, No Brain’ah! 😉 On a side note: I took the Wicker Man from the Pagan Christmas Event and am now using it in my very on Burning Homer-palooza Festival. 🙂 I love when I can mix Event pieces. I have to say this is a great event, so far. I event dig the groovy Title page art work…..

  2. I’m freemium and BGM is a hell of a lot of donuts. Yes, the other combo is a better deal. Yes, he will probably return at a discount in the future. Still got him. And got him early so he can at least help with the event. After all, it’s BGM.

  3. As a KEM farmer I had to get BGM, he’s just too awesome of a character to pass up. Does anyone know if his questline ends with event payout? Or should I wait to do his quests until I hit the bonut or the event ends.

    Thanks in advance

  4. I’m Freemium and grabbed him right away. I wanted to reunite Lisa with her greatest music mentor she so dearly missed. #doitforlisa

  5. Of course I picked him since day one! I was asking for this character since almost the beginning of the game now (since the update that introduced Maude Flanders exactly, “if ghost can be in game, BGM MUST be included”).

  6. I bought Bleeding Gums Murphy right away because he’s iconic. Also because I was in “summer mode” and didn’t notice the update until yesterday morning after I had sent everyone on 24-hour tasks. So I also spent donuts to spring Lisa. And I bought Flaming Moe’s and the Sungazers. I sure hope I can catch up.

  7. Rita Romero Mhando

I didn’t get him. He’s just to expensive. I got the sungazer duo. They are more bang for my bucks.

  8. I’m freemium and I agree with all your points Alissa. That said, I had to get BGM 😀

  9. Leaving reply in this topic only because it has fewer responses and more hope someone will answer me.
My problem is simple. I sent my 10 hard earned lawyers into my husbands town, and the town just sucked them in, and no response after that. No indication that the lawyers landed there (the icon I he upper right corner still shows 10 possible lawyers to send into this particular town, and there were no messages like I usually get “no one assisted you with the lawyers” or “myhusband assisted you here you gained resourses”. NOTHING. I was waiting with his device and his town logged ready to collect the lawyers, and they never appeared. I the only thing changed was the count of lawyer folders in my town. 10 less.
My question is, how do I contact EA? Does anyone have a link? Thank you

    • When you “send” lawyers into his town are you…
      1- in his town?
2- tapping the lawyer icon in the upper right corner(the one that says 10) once for each lawyer you want to drop?
3- watching the counter/icon go down as you tap it? It should go down by 1 each time you tap it…and you should see the lawyer right in front of you, now in his town.
This is the correct sequence of steps to leave/drop a lawyer in his town.

The counter in the lower left corner (in your own town) tells how many lawyers you have been awarded by tapping fans (again, in your own town)…this is the number you have available to drop in someone else’s town. When you return after visiting his town, the counter in your own town should be at zero, you are now out of lawyers…they are all now in his town.
Finding them in his town is a challenge, but they should be there (you saw them drop).

If this is all old news to you and you are doing everything correctly, try dropping them in another neighbor’s town who you are familiar with and see if it works there. If still no luck, then you do need to contact EA…hope this helps.

Ok, I had no choice, I got Bleeding Gums. Not cheap but I just had to have him. Great job by EA into bring him to the game. Where’s Troy now.

  11. Help! I’m very new to the game, only level 20. I’ve got 73 dounts. is it worth buying bgm/ sungazer to get me through this event or shall I leave it? Thanks

    • At level 20, I’m not sure you have all the characters unlocked yet that will help you complete each act in this event. The main ones are Lisa and Homer, which of course you have, but I don’t remember when Lovejoy, Apu, Hibbard, etc… get unlocked. “Technically,” if you sign in every 4 hours every day (minus, of course, sleep time), you “should” be ok with no premium characters. If you cannot do that, a premium (or two, in sungazer’s case) would really help. For maximum value, Sungazer is the way to go if you’re concerned (and cheaper to boot).

    • At level 20, my advice is to do the best you can without spending any donuts on premium items. No, you won’t win everything…but you are just starting…don’t kill yourself trying to keep up with players that have been here for years. My first event, I hardly won anything and bought nothing…no biggy, everything I missed out on came back later at a discount. Best advice…use your donuts to buy-
      – the XP collider (if you don’t already have it)
      – dicounted characters in the vault or event’s mystery boxes
      – regular mystery boxes in the store (to help raise your Xp bonus %)
I know this doesn’t sound like a lot of fun, and actually, if you really want to buy something in the event, the bus is a pretty good bargain and will help you with the event. Soooo…the most practical thing is to spend your donuts on discounts and XP items, but the Bus is a pretty good buy…it’s not the worst you could do👍😊.

  12. I initially thought he was too much, but couldn’t resist more than a day to get him. I had to wait until I found a single donut to get Dr. Nick from the vault, and the 25 donut rebate gave me just enough to get the Sungazer combo last night. Now at 0 donuts and 0 regrets!

  13. No contest, had to be BGM for me, even though he used all my donuts up.

  14. I’ve been playing this game from the beginning and as a freemium player who scrapes and hoards every single donut, works the railyard and recently, KEMs it up once a week…Bleeding Gums Murphy is a steal at any price! He’s on my most wanted list, followed by Brandine, who I’ve missed twice so far 😞 Coolest characted ever!!

  15. If I can save up more donuts in time I will get him.

  16. I got him but I am far more excited about a certain moonwalker showing up in Act 2!!! 🙂

  17. Totally agree! EA know we all want him so they were basically leaving us to write a blank cheque!!
Skipped him and went for the great value sungazer duo.
Don’t regret it and even if I earn enough bonuts over the course of the event, just out of principal I’m still not gonna pick him up.

  18. My conundrum, eloquently explained. On one hand, two characters is a better deal than one. On the other hand, it’s BGM!!! And based on my current donut farming rate, it’s just over a day’s production. The cost is significant, but not overwhelming. What to do… what to do…

Honestly, I’ll probably buy the pair first, and pick up BGM before the end of the event, like ozanhus said. Just too tempting to pass up.

    • If you’re generating enough farmed donuts to pay for BGM in one day, I don’t see why you wouldn’t be getting him tomorrow and getting the benefit of the event currency that he generates ASAP. I don’t see any strategic reason to wait until the end of the event to get him.

  19. It’s worth noting that while the Sungazer dudes do help with jam sessions, they only have an icon for act 1, i.e. Rock, unlike BGM who has icons for all three acts. This suggests to me that they may not be able to perform in act 2 and 3, but BGM will be able to, making the value of the Sungazers sligtly less and BGM slightly more…

    • Except…this isn’t a SIB for sungazer 😉

      • But you do mention them as a better alternative for freemium players. Having two characters helping in only one act is worse than one helping in all three acts. In fact, once BGM is leveled up he will be much more useful going forward, making him comparatively an even better buy. Or at least, not as bad a deal as you make it out to be.

        • Not get too spoiler, but the icons aren’t for which acts the performer can perform in, they’re for which stages they can perform on. More stages will be introduced as the event progresses.

          • in reality…no one knows what they represent. Everyone is speculating, but really only EA knows the answer. So we’ll have to all wait and see what happens when act 2 hits…& we’ll all find out together. 🙂

      • EXCEPT…you included in your post that the Sungazer was a better buy:

“The Sungazer combo comes with TWO characters to help with the event (Act 1) & it’s cheaper. That’s a far better deal than this one, if you’re buy it for a practical purpose.”

        😉

        • Long and short… buy if you want. Both should help with the whole event like almost every premium during an event. This post is about BGM, not the rockers.

    • The way these things work, Act 2/3 will be easier than Act 1. The Sungazers let us make it through the Act 1 track faster, and pick up 2x more characters.

The longer you have to upgrade the performer rates, the better. So picking up the Act 1 prizes faster would have long-term benefits.

The Sungazer package isn’t twice as good as BGM, but it’s at least 50% better. I am waiting to see what premium purchases are available in Act 2 before pulling the trigger on BGM.

  20. I have only 85 donuts left but if I can save up before the event ends I will buy him, any ideas how to fast track 80 donuts

  21. Like everyone else, I’ve wanted BGM for a long time. Since he’ll be available throughout the event, I’m waiting to pick him up. I picked up Sungazer to help with the event because it’s only available for two weeks. I’ll be KEM farming throughout the event to pick up items as they are made available. One thing I like about long events is that I get ample time to save in-game cash for farming. I’m almost finished farming $24 million today. I’ll probably farm $20 million twice more before the event ends. I have to get Leon Kompowski too!

    • ? not sure what you mean by farm 24mill??? do you mean you SPENT that amount farming KEMS in 1 day? if so that seems a waste with the first 30 or so being less than 14k each. Maybe I misunderstood what you meant tho….

      • Every four hours I spend about $7 million buying KEMs, After I collect the XP, I sell them all back and start again(with the XP collider on of course). Each KEM yields 2000XP times 5 for the XP collider and multiplied again by your comformity multiplier. It takes me around 20 or so KEMs to level up at level 939(1000000XP) I always pay the extra $50,000 if I don’t get 3 donuts on the first try.I only run the XP collider for 24hours at a cost of 5 donuts.

  22. It took me a microfortnight before I bought BGM 😎

  23. Even as a freemium player, I didn’t hesitate on Bleeding Gums Murphy and the Sungazer combo.
I had been saving my donuts for a while and I’m glad I did!
Bonus, moving quite well through this event now!
Hoping to get Flaming Moe’s before it’s gone. I voted for it and BGM in the Bracket Battle!

  24. I couldn’t resist BGM. I was absolutely stunned to see him because they’ve had chances before and didn’t do it, and so many “lesser” characters have arrived before him. Also, who says BGM is only a C-List celebrity? lol.

The fact that BGM is now in the game gives me new hope we’ll eventually get Troy McClure. I just wish he could be voiced 🙁

  25. I totally agree with the above comments. BGM is great, but he will be around for several weeks. I picked up the Sungazer guys right away. They’re a huge help on jamming and are probably the reason I’m close to being on track. Two full premium characters with a bonus % to boot? Sold!

  26. scott_daniel90

    Got him right away..

  27. You guessed it. Picked him up 5 minutes after the event went live. Been wanting him forever, and his 4/8 outside tasks, for me, were pure gold. He’s just too iconic a character not to have jazzing up my Springfield.

  28. Freemium player

Yup! I couldn’t see the point of getting BGM while there was a two character combo for less donuts either. The Sungazers have been jamming in my town for the last three days…

  29. Im basically a freenium occassionally buy and got him straight away with Sungazer duo blown buget bigtime but felt worth it especially to help in the Jam Sessions loving him so worth it 😀

  30. I decided to buy the sungazer combo first. Two characters for the event plus a 1% bonus just made more sense as I’m low on donuts.

The BGM combo can still be purchased within the next 38 days so there’s no rush. I do plan to buy this combo but I prefer to play strategically.

    • Yep, but Sungazer combo will help only in Act 1 (they have only rock icon), while BGM has icons of all 3 acts (so he will be able to jam all way through the event). Also purchased Sungazer combo before I realized what the icons mean. Now stuck with 2 donuts – hope I can get enough ingame cash to get enough donuts to buy BGM before the event ends.

      • The icons are for the stages they can play on not the act they can play. I see no reason why the rock stage would go away when they bring in the pop and hip hop stage. The musicians with more than one icon can go to more than one stage, that is all.

        • It’s not stages (or venues), I can play every character at any current venue. They’re all available at those venues. Currently I can play Freddy or Shredder at Simpson House, Kiwk-E-Mart, Moe’s and the Rock stage.
Acts makes sense based on how they’re labeled in the files (the image icons) Blue is labeled Rock, Pink is labeled Pop and Green is labeled Hip Hop.

          • I posted my theory in more detail on another post, but I think it IS stages, but not venues. I think each act will add a new main stage (or, more likely, a new skin for the existing main stage) and only those charters with the appropriate icon will be able to play on it. But that won’t keep them from being able to pay the other *venues*, like Moe’s.
