Friday Filler – When TSTO Duplicates Real Life…Things are Hilariously Weird

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

OK. First of all…we’re fine.

Thanks to all of you who dropped me personal notes asking if I am on fire. No. We aren’t on fire. But, close enough that the sky has been dark red, and the air full of ash since Tuesday. Needless to say, we are staying inside…and continuing to hope for the best for several friends who have had to evacuate.   Crazy times. Yes…the world seems to be on fire for a number of reasons figuratively…but where we live, it has been on fire, literally.  More on that later.

Apparently, God is trying to burn down the Left Coast. No politics intended.

As far as the Van Houtens Event, for my donuts, they saved the best Premium Item for last. It is the best New Character/Decoration combo in some time. Or should I say, Old and New Character…as the best new intros for my taste, were the introduction of Milhouse’s NICE grandparents…and their RV.

Call it coincidence, or call it “Tapping Imitating Life,” but the fact that the Grandparents and the RV were introduced during the very week that my wife and I took a couple of our grandkids on an RV weekend, was just too perfectly “Tapperitious” to ignore.

RV Life.  It’s a new chapter..and one fraught with instant challenges…especially in the Covid-Reality.

Friday Filler – Thank Grog It’s…Wait…What Day Is It?

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

I don’t know about you, but recent events have definitely put the “Grog” in my Firday!

I have to admit…never in a zillion years would I have thought that Reality actually makes the dialogue in our silly game seem tame, sober, and even a tad boring by comparison. Watching the news any night, is like turning on a “B-Rate Horror Film” in the middle, and then realizing that the chocolate covered raisins you bought at the snack bar, aren’t chocolate covered at all.  I’ll let your imagination fill in the blanks.

Here in Lane County, Oregon…the home of the REAL SPRINGFIELD, we are in a weird bubble that we hope stays in place…but all continue to be touched in real time by the insanity of other parts of the country. We are distracted by the fact that we probably don’t really even NEED distracting. Which is weird…knowing that my East Coast family and friends are suffering in an entirely different reality.

It makes writing about a silly mobile game seem almost sinful.  But, I know my “duty” here is to distract… So, I will do my best to do so.

Friday Filler – In Support of EA…And Hope

Thank Grog it’s Firday!

And yes…like you, I barely know what day it is…and am writing this way early.
It is going to be one of the shorter posts I’ve written…which will please a good number of you.

First…my apologies for anyone who got a notice that this had posted yesterday. Fat finger syndrome. I hit the wrong button on my iPhone when I was trying to start this post.

Next..for the love of God. Matt is messing with us with the SkyFinger main screen image. That STILL is not a finger…even if you put a wrestling singlet on it.

OK now to the real post…

The fact is, I’m working hard on finding the Joy these days,,,,this thing is starting to get personal.  Not going to go into details…but suffice it to say that “The Covid,” as CrankyOldGuy likes to call it, has taken a handful of folks I knew closely, or next-to-closely. And, the loss of John Prine hit me harder than I expected.  I had the good luck to interview him back in my radio days. Class act. Hilarious sense of humor…and probably one of the best songwriters around.  I loved the way he wove humor into pathos…and using words that sounded common and conversational…while being pretty damn deep.

Ironically, one of my favorite songs was, “Don’t Bury Me,” which spoke of how he wanted his body used after he went. After beating cancer twice (barely), there wasn’t much left of “ol John” to go around.

Irreverence is underrated.

But, as always…I DIGRESS….

What I meant to write about was how thankful I am that Bob is still working double shifts at EA, and somehow broke through the insanity of the lockdowns in California to put up this weirdly funny event. We really need something that is familiar, and light, and silly…even if it is redundant, and they DIDN’T INCREASE THE ITEM LIMITS!!!

But, I like it. So shoot me.  Let me tell you why…

Friday Filler – Entitlement in a Freemium World

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

At the lofty old age of 65.5 years old (that .5 is important as you get older), I have come to realize that in my quest to remain young and vibrant, I have actually become weirdly entitled. I could give all sorts of instances, but as this is a blog about a mobile game, I will keep most of my comments to this topic.

More and more, I am beginning to feel like Grandpa Simpson, as almost all of the stories I tell my grandkids (the ones old enough to sit and listen without being bribed by an ice cream cone), are met with a look of incredulous wonder, as if I just told them that “cell phones are sucking your brain pan dry if you use them after 10pm.”  Of course, most of those statements could be true…there just hasn’t been some Swedish study on the topic yet.  But then again, they were wrong about bacon being bad for you, and eggs, and peanut butter… or was it nut butters with sugar added…I can’t remember…but, they were wrong.

However, what I know to be true, is that as more and more amazing technical advances are made every year, and we just grow to accept their existence and our habitual reliance on them, we forget the fact that most of the stuff that gives us real joy is actually FREE. Like TSTO. And updates in TSTO. And…well…you get the picture.

Are we too entitled?  Have we become whiny brats who expect sprinkles (never call them Jimmies around Alissa) on EVERY meal?

Let’s look a the evidence…(before some Swedish think tank does).

Friday Filler – Killing Three Geese With One Stone

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

I can’t believe how many questions the addition of the Golden Goose Real Estate building opened up!  Three HUGE questions, or “goose chases,” that really forced me to do some serious research, math, and some additional Goose Guessing!

The Questions?
1. How Many Land Sections Are There, and how many do I have left?
2. Does it make sense for me to hoard my Free GGR land certificates, or should I move ahead and turn them in for Free Donuts?
3. Where in the heck is “True North” in TSTO?

Well…as much as it seems to be an impossible task to answer all of these in one single post, I am just the tapper to take it on!

Let’s start with Goose Guess Number One…
