So you got yourself tossed back into some Medieval Times Clash of Clones war. You need somewhere to stay, right? So why not build a Castle…or Three. Lol.
In this post I will be going over the basics of building the Castles and what it means to “Level Up” each one.

First off, as you can see there are 3 Castles total. The Main one is the Barbarian Castle that you will be prompted to build at the first of the Event. Prince and the Premise Part 2.
The Next Castle you will be able to build will be the Recycled Castle you would have earned at 400 Gold Coins and would have been tucked into your inventory locked until you reach the unlock point. It will kick off after Prince and the Premise Part 9. Lisa will then launch into Eco Castle Part 1.
The Last Castle you will be able to build is Boxingham Castle. This one you would have earned at Gold and would have been tucked into your inventory locked until you reach the unlock point. It will kick off after Eco Castle Part 1 when Lisa completes building her Recycled Castle. It will then launch into Boxed In Part 1.
As you progress in the game, you get the chance to Level Up these 3 Castles. So how does it work? What benefit do you get from leveling up? Well, let’s break it down. (This list is the same for each Castle, the only difference is the Walls, Towers, and Gate will go with the one you Level Up.)
So as you can see, Leveling Up is quite beneficial to you as it will allow your Castles to create MORE Nerds to send into battle for you. It will increase the MAX amount of Nerds you can have at once. It will add 1 Hour each time to your Defense on all your Castles and buildings, making it harder for a Neighbor or Random Invader to destroy it. Not to mention it will help you to build each Castle to make it look a lot cooler. This is also why the walls stay locked in your Menu. You have to wait until you unlock them at the Levels.
You will need 68,750 Elixr for each Castle to reach Level 20. Now, do not fret on that amount. You earn a LOT of Elixr just by completing each task in the questlines, of which there are a ton. You also have the option to Level Up Characters to earn more too. (More details on that in the Character Level Up post.) There will be MANY ways to reach these goals. Of course if you prefer, you can always invest in the Elixr Sales every Wednesday during the Event.
So let’s add up the totals you can get if you MAX to Level 20:
For the Barbarian Castle you will earn a total of 8 Walls, 2 Towers, and 1 Gate
For the Recycled Castle you will earn a total of 8 Walls, 2 Towers, and 1 Gate
For the Boxingham Castle you will earn a total of 8 Walls, 2 Towers, and 1 Gate
For your town you can earn +5 Hours total per Castle. Giving you +15 Hours all together for Level 20 on all 3 Castles.
For your town you can earn +30 MAX Troops per Castle. Giving you +90 MAX Troops for Level 20 on all 3 Castles. Add to that the 40 you start with and that is 130 MAX Nerds total.
For your town you can earn +25 Troops Production every 2 hours per Castle. Giving you +75 Troops Production for Level 20 on all 3 Castles on top of the 5 that are already producing at Level 1. That is 90 Nerds Produced every 2 hrs.
There you have it. 3 Castles you can earn pretty easily and quick that will help you overall in the games events. The more you Level them up, the more they will help you out. Did this post help you out? What Levels are YOU on? What Castles do YOU have? Any suggestions to others on how you are Leveling Up? Feel free to add your thoughts below.

The personal prizes are not prizes… All you win is the option to purchase premium items with donuts. All the barbarian castle components are available with the non addictive purple goo. However once unlocked with level ups, most of the remaining prizes cost donuts. So in reality all you win is the option to spend donuts or not..
Yes and no. Best suggestion is to spite EA and build some awesome designs without spending donuts.
What’s really annoying and absolutely the biggest disappointment of me playing this game is that all towers and walls for lisa and barts castle are bought with donuts… If EA doesn’t fix this and give you the option of buying them with elixir I don’t think I am going to play any more… I understand they are trying to make money but c’mon really?!?
Completely agree it was disappointing. As my own sign of rebellion, I decided not to purchase anything with donuts for those castles and built them up using freemium items instead. The only limit is your imagination.
So I scanned most of the comments and did not notice anyone talking about the changes I’m seeing today on payouts. Half the payout for collecting on shields. And I’m getting messages of nerds returning 2 e and 1 g; instead of the 5 e. So defended attacks are paying less. I doubt this is a glitch; others are reporting the same. So… will the attack values change later too? Will we get more for a successful attack? Do these changes happen for all, or is it based on the defense levels of the towns? So many questions. EA is keeping us on our toes! 🙂
We do not see anything reflecting why this change, but it is happening.
My nerds are becoming slackers! 🙂 Hard to complain though. This morning my nerds brought in 12,639 e and 4,526 g! 375 nerds sent out yesterday.
I just upgraded my main barbarian castle to level 9, and it says I should get 5 more nerds. But my nerd regeneratioon is still the same (15 nerds every 2 hours). Is this normal?
If you look at Level 9 on the post, you will see the change was to your MAX Nerds you can collect in your town and not the Nerd production. Hope that helps. 😉
My Barbarian Castle is now at level 10 and the others are at level 8 now I think. I level up every chance I get on characters and the castles. I also am visiting as many neighbours as I can, each time I earn more nerds. Getting 45 nerds every 2 hours now and trying to log in as many times as I can during the day so I can collect and use them. After a slow start on gold and elixir, I’ve now got ahead of Bunny’s gold calendar by doing this.
My barbarian castle is level 8 but the walls are still locked in the menu. Is this a glitch?
They will remain locked in the menu. The items themselves you win are placed into your inventory though. That lil brown cardboard box on the left lower side of the screen when you open your menus. Just tap on it, scroll through (they are alphabetical in categories) and find the walls you won. Once you place the 4, you will have to level up to get more. Once the Castles are complete all the way to level 20, THEN you will have option to have them unlock from the actual menus.
Thank you ^.^
Is the level 21 (and beyond) really 105K elixer, or 10.5K in elixer. Just thought I’d ask since that is a HUGE ramp from 9600 to 105K for a level upgrade.
It is correct. It is a play on the game itself. The dialog even pokes fun of it. 105,000 for reals. 😉
I love this event but it’s quiet of a short time we can all enjoy it.. They could try to let them last just a little bit longer for those who are just not addicted as the many of us 😀
Any idea if EA will award doughnuts for gold after you get all the personal prizes, like in past events?
Haven’t seen anything. No.
Thanks for the info; I was trying to upgrade my Box-Castle past level 10 in the hopes that it would spit out a few more castle components. Not happy about the fact that there are none. I really wanted to save the donuts. Up to now, I have one big castle compound built from all the free stuff I got so far, putting off single castle compounds till I got more walls. Now I think it will stay as is. Needs less room as well.
This is such great game. It forces you to think of what the other people are doing. Slacker neighbours are a bonus! I spam them whenever I can but now their villages are completely destroyed so new tactic. Advanced players with 20 plus k gold who never attack me back get unceremoniously unfriended. I no longer attack stranger castles. 1 on a stranger brown house or 5 if attacks already underway (stranger has real life or is a part timer)! But watch out for those pretending to not be attending. I try this trick myself. Always leave a burning house or two and try to resist clicking on a few shields to lure in unsuspecting strangers who think I’ve gone away for a few days. Mwahaha!!
Glad I’m not your friend. I think it’s mean to just unfriend people for some perceived slight they probably didn’t even realize – especially if they’re not on this, or any of the other sites; But then, maybe those players are better off without friends like that anyway. I only unfriend people after 3+ weeks of inactivity – maybe one week if it’s in the middle of an event that requires cooperation. I’ve stopped attacking friends at all, except for revenge which I always take if a friend attacks me. Otherwise, sorry, but there’s way more elixir (thus gold) to be had from strangers.
Loving the event but just upgraded Lisa’s recycled castle and unlocked the walls and towers etc and can’t believe they are charging donuts for them. Cheeky EA get you to build half the castle for free as part of the quest and then make you spend your cash to finish it. Boooo
For Recycle and Boxingham castles it is only possible to purchase additional walls with donuts. Therefore, freemium players cannot complete these. It would be great to see some fan pics showing what ingenuity people have used in there castle design to get around this.
I was inspired by a fav childhood destination, Castle Golf & Games, to combine Sir Put-a-Lot and Castle Recycle into one complex using hedges. I’m a premium player, but I have no interest in using donuts for castle walls. I also don’t have room for (based on how long it took for EA to give us more land) or interest in having three castles in my SF. Anyway, that’s what I did. Maybe stone walls can extend the barbarian castle and wood fences for Boxingham? I was able to get as many walls and gates as I wanted for the very small castles I want using what the game gives us and elixir.
If you have some extra walls from the Stonecutters event they also go really well with Boxingham (turned backwards so you don’t see the eyes). The colors match up well.
I totally had a similar idea!

Very cool.
I’m loving this event. I’m no longer bored in my town and I can sort through my friends list for inactive players so I can add active ones. Im building the box castle right now and have been upgrading every chance I get. I love getting on the game after work to a bunch of blue shields. Bring it on neighbors. Muahahaha…. 🙂
I like waking up in the morning and finding my town a smoking ruin !!!
Love this event !!
I have been sending 1 nerd to each building, knowing I would probably loose anyway I don’t invest more than that into each attack. Especially with the increasing times due to upgrades and the notifications that alert you to invaiders, i just plan to lose and maximize the elixir/nerd payout of myself and the random springfield’s owner. This strategy would be my recommendation to anyone struggling to earn elixir and gold.
It pains me to upgrade my castles. All my hard-earned elixir gets spent so fast! Does anyone else feel like this? I rationalise it by telling myself, “it’s only early in the event, you’ll be fine”. I am really enjoying it though.
I think the Wednesday elixir sale and the Saturday troop reinforcements are a great idea by EA. It keeps those of us who require constant stimulation occupied (That dog has a puffy tail! Here puff!)
Thanks to the TSTOAddicts team for decoding the enigma that is the Clash of Clones event.
It does stink to go back to 600 something. I just tell myself… “It’s still early Wookiee… don’t overthink any of it… just attack regularly, pull off arms and then repair the droids in your town.” Recycle, brush and repeat. The troop replacement is cool if you time it right. As for the Wed elixir, I think passing on it until towards the end is a good bet.
maybe its just me but i hardly atk the castles , i atk the houses with max nerds for the 1 hr pay out, i can usually get 4 house destroyed in 1 hr, and im not sure but i dont think the person ur atking gets a pop up unless u do 5/5 atks so with only 4/5 atks done they dont know i was there and i win ^_^….sneaky sneaky
I was just visiting a random town that had 9 of the first castle and three each of the other two!! Gee, I wonder how the owner got all those? Lol
Two guesses and the first is free.
What do the homer, Lisa, and Bart upgrades do are they just there for quest purposes?
For quest progression. Additionally, the upgrades increase the elixir payout for their tasks. Post on this coming soon.
So is it better to let your buildings get destroyed or to defend them right away? I’m confused
With the current “shields disappearing” glitch affecting folks, I suggest clearing them when you see them to avoid losing them. I’m lucky to have a bunch of regular attackers so no need to let them be destroyed to give my neighbors the payout. We’re making up for it with frequent back and forth war.
Takes forever to get the coins and elixir drink and I play 4 times a day and I invaded other towns and still not enough to get the upgrade
The true key for speedy gold and elixir that I’ve found is neighbors that frequently attack you.
False – fastest returns come from attacking random invaders, using 1 nerd per building. Cycle thru different invaders and pick those advancing the slowest. My returns skyrocketed this way. True you have to wait half a day for the returns, but the payout is worth it. This is an everyone for themselves event. Notice no new FP level. And the shields disappearing isn’t likely a glitch.
Well aware of the payouts but as you can’t guarantee the randoms returning the attack, I’ll stick to my awesome neighboreenos.
Wookie I respect your opinion, but I must disagree. In the spirit of the event, you are weak and I will drink from your skull!
Wowza… I always appreciate a comment that makes me chuckle out loud. We all have our different ways. As for the brain meat colada… You may try sir, you may try. Btw… “Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!” (If you don’t get that, please look up Monty Python)
I am just a rabbit. Come closer my friend 🙂
Oh – I didn’t mean to drag Bunny into this, she is cute
That defense upgrades lack an equivalent or greater offense upgrades means this whole event will degrade into 1-nerd per building collecting loss rewards. Adding enough nerds to get a short clock just isn’t worth it compared to the garunteed loss amounts.
Yea. I just noticed that too. More nerds, yea. But you’ll need them because the time it takes to destroy the castles increase. I already have some neighbors that have castles that take 1 day, 4 hours to destroy (without nerds of course). No way a true addict is gonna be away from their game long enough for you to earn max gold and elixir.
I am beginning to like this update less and less. Oh well. Only 6 weeks left!!
Was wondering is their a way to get lucky dice w out having to spend dounuts
Keep defending houses. They randomly pop out.

You get them for rebuilding also
Thanks such a big help you guys
I have really been enjoying this event with no complaints…until I got to the part where I had gotten all of the parts for Castle Recycle and realized that instead of buying more wall parts with elixir like you do with the Barbarian Castle, you have to spend donuts to complete your castle. That is some (expletive deleted) right there because it allows you to start creating these two cool castles and then basically won’t allow you to finish them properly, unless you fork over some donuts. But after reading the above list, does that mean that every level we upgrade past level 20, we will get more castle pieces? If so, does that include more towers so I don’t have to spend 20 donuts on both a Castle Recycle tower and a Boxingham Castle tower?
It does stink. After Level 10, there are no extra castle parts awarded unless you upgrade to Level 21. AT that and each one after… you get a wall but the elixir price is expensive. Good news is you’ll get a few more towers for each castle if you reach the 8th personal prize. I decided to just build walls for both using other stuff.
I plan on making castle recycle an incomplete castle on purpose, surrounding it by nature and making it seem more like a ruins than a functioning castle. As for boxingham palace, I’m not wasting donuts on more pieces so we will have to see if the extra walls after level 20 are worth the elixir (eventually (hopefully) there will be nothing else to spend it on since this event will last till October) and I’ll just have to figure out how to make three towers work for that lol.
I’m not wasting donuts on Boxingham either … when it rains the cardboard will disintegrate anyway!
Actually Boxingham and Recycle Castles are complete. They suck as castles but they are complete.
And come on, EA can’t give everything free to everyone. They do need to make money to keep the game going for us cheapos that never buy donuts
I was wondering why some castles had longer defense times. Thanks again for the explanations. I am enjoying this update although I am not sure I can claim any strategy. I am mostly just confused , and therefore stumbling along.
Oddly I have been doing the calculations on whether it’s worth levelling up or not and one thing that I found is that it may actually be beneficial to level in bursts rather than bit by bit.
Town defence adding time is actually detrimental, because you want people attacking you so you can get points for defending.
I use the random attack feature a lot and I will generally ignore any high defence towns and attack the low level newbies. I assume a lot of other people do the same so those people are getting more elixir while the higher defence people get less from defending but have more nerds to attack .
So I think it’s best to save enough elixir to get to the ” increase nerds level” then take advantage of saving elixir until you can get multiple levels for next increase.
Anyway that ended up far too long so
Tl;dr : this event is complex and great!
I Totally agree. I hate the part ‘upgrade defense’.
Yes, burst upgrading is part of my strategy too. Once you get to level 10, you wait until you’ve built up around 30,000 purple then you upgrade to 13, then save again for awhile and upgrade to 16, then 19 and done!
You guys are super, love all the notes on how to do things, and help us in the game. A Simpsons high 4 to you! 🌟
I don’t want a higher defense level !!!
Please, come destroy my Springfield !!!!
Doing 45 nerds per shift and that’s quite frankly almost too much work to send them out !!!
How can I tell how many nerds each castle can hold.
whoops. *?
Do you mean how many they are producing? Or do you mean the max in your town that you can have total?
Producing…you just tap on the Castle and it will tell you how many you get when the timer is up. For max in your town…check to see where your levels on each castle are and add those level ups to your Max 40 in your town.
I wasn’t sure if it was better to level up each somewhat equally or to pump them up one at a time. I decided to do it equally because I thought it would get me through the quests faster.
Currently level 10, 9, and 7.
