Should I Spend Donuts on the Drive-In?

Hey Howdy Hey Alien Squishing Tappers!

Halloween has arrived in Springfield!!!! WOO-HOO!  And, as usual, EA doesn’t disappoint!  We’ve got ourselves a fun update full of twists, turns, prizes and ALIENS!  And the best news?  Not a wheel or mystery box in sight!  Now, with all the new Premium Halloween Items it can be a bit overwhelming trying to decide what you should add to your Springfield and what you should save your donuts on…but have no fear!  That’s where we come in, to tell you what’s worth your donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the Drive-In Theater to YOUR Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button (or lack their of) let’s break down the pros and cons of adding Mutant and picture show to your Springfield!

driveintheatre_menu

Item: Drive-In Theater
Character: Space Mutant
Donut Price: 150 Donuts
Conform-O-Meter: Consumerism +10
Size: 8×10
What Does it Do?: Space Mutant is a full character with tasks and the drive-in plays movies and you’l earn cash and xp by setting various movies to play (think Channel 6, Cletus’ Farm etc)

Pros
-Full Premium character that will earn 50% more on all jobs
-Comes with a full questline
-Drive-In is AWESOME!  Really great animations, actually plays images!
-In-expensive to run movies for $/xp.
-Completes the THOH XXV Character Set

Cons
-Pricey.  While not the most expensive character/building combo…it’s still pricey.
-No benefit to aid you in squishing Rigellians for THOH, nor does it earn you more currency for THOH.
-No character interaction after initial questline

Final Thought:
Personally, I’m a fan of this one.  I say if you have the donuts go for it.  This is one of the best character/building combos offered in this game.  The Space Mutant’s questline is hilarious and the Drive-In is just AWESOME!
Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would/wouldn’t do, and this one I fully intend on purchasing.  Whatever you decide just remember, this is a Limited-time item…so if you’re thinking about it make sure you make your decision prior to the Halloween Event Leaving our games on November 12th!

  1. I was so happy to see this!! I’ve seen this in some of my neighbors Springfields and just had to have it ( I have a thing for drive in movies). As soon as I saw it was back, it was an automatic buy

  2. The Space Mutant’s “eat from a dumpster” job and task complete animation are worth the price. I laugh everytime I see them.

  3. So happy they brought this back! I missed earning it last year and jumped on it now. The theater is awesome. One of my favorite buildings in my town.

  4. As a movie obsessed person this is really a no-brainer. Looking forward to buying with my bonuts but might wait a while to see if ea sends any other halloweiner premium items I’d rather get.

  5. I snapped this up last year because I love the Space Mutant costume and the idea of the animated movie screen. I still love it! However, I’m hoping EA will add some longer movies (3 hr.s is the longest as of now). Space Mutant’s 8hr. & 24hr tasks are great!

  6. Heads up for if/when the offer this item again (Halloween ’15?), but unless you tap hourly or bi-hourly, the shorter movies will get the most minimal of usage. Don’t get me wrong, the mutant is cool, but I’ve had the drive for 10 weeks now, and I have yet to select any movie except for the longest one. I simply don’t play the game often enough to benefit from playing the shorter films. The radio station, the farm and the TV station have much better lengths of programming/crops. It would be awesome to see longer movies, like a Mcbain marathon or an entire week of Troy Mclure movies.

  7. Zoom in on the Bored of the Things and you will see the hobbits are Simpsons!

  8. Currently have 213 donuts. Thinking about drive-in and teleporters which would wipe me out of donuts but might be worth it though in nervous with Christmas right around the corner.
Also, missed the donut torture device and hover copter, both I’m very disappointed about. So, looks like I’ll be able to get one of those OR the great pumpkin. What do u guys think?
******* Been playin daily since March 2013. Crazy but true

  9. Which of the tasks for the space mutant are outside ones and does sneak into a movie mean at the drive in or at the Aztec theatre?

  10. Any chance you will post a walkthru for this soon? Thanks a bunch 🙂

I plan to get this before the event ends but I have to say I’m bummed that there’s no showing of”The Bloodening”. The main reason I wanted a drive-in!

  12. Ok so I finally caved and bought this, the alien is hilarious so no regrets. Just wondering tho, people are saying there are extra quests with Krusty-Lu studios (which I don’t have yet), will these quests still be around once this Halloween event has finished, or do I need to fork out now for the studios as well??

  13. OMG! Have you ever watched him eating from the dumpster?! He eats a cat!!

  14. I just came to watch “Honk If You’re Horny” in peace!

  15. Bought it yesterday and love it. Animation of the movies are a lot of fun. Very happy with buying this one!

  16. clocksorkmonkey

Really like the drive-in. the only thing that slightly frustrates me about it is that others cars in the game cannot be oriented to face the screen.

  17. Just noticed the post says it adds consumerism! The chances of me getting it go up with that. I’d love to get rid of a Kwik-E-Mart.

Also, does anybody else think of Horrible Gelatinous Blob from Futurama when they see the space mutant?

    • Yes on the Blob from Futurama! In fact that was a big reason why I bought it. First premium item since Brandine on Valentines Day.

  18. Depending what else shows up before the event ends I might get this. Seems like a great item, but since it will be around throughout the event I want to save my donuts until I know the rest of the options.

A lot of people are saying they’d like a longer movie, so my suggestion for a longer showing is “FXX Simpsons Marathon” in a bit of cross-promotion. C’mon EA! 🙂

  19. I do not have Kristy studio. Would I still get the 10 donuts at end of questline?

  20. This was the first premium item from this event I bought and it’s been my favorite. I only wish there were some longer movie options other than the 3 hour “Rings” (Bored of Things: Extended Cut) movie. Perhaps a double-feature that would go on for 6 hours or something? It might also be cool if some of the movies change (or be added) from time to time to reflect the current event (if there is one) taking place in the game. The Drive-In is cute and it doesn’t take up a lot of space (as one might expect a drive-in to do) and it comes with a humorous playable character. What’s not to like? Oh and it didn’t cost 250 donuts either, thankfully.

    • I feel the same way — love the drive-in. I added some pavement and cars and such to make it bigger. But I also wish they had a double-feature or even triple feature, which is something I do remember from waaaaay back when drive-ins were common.

  21. I don’t like the gremlin or the high cost.

  22. This actually comes with two questlines! If you have krustylu studios, then another quest line appears that involves the mutant becoming famous and at the end you get 10 donuts!

  23. Bought it a few days after its release (debated on spending the donuts for those few days). Have not regretted it. Besides the hilarious quests, I also like how the Space Mutant can be used for a number of the “send X amount of characters to do Y” (i.e. Eat at Fleet-A-Pita, Storm Police Station, etc.) quests. It’s nice to be able to tie up a premium character for such things than to tie-up someone who could be progressing other storylines or ToT’ing.

  24. It’s awesome! I can’t wait for you to have a showoff!

  25. This one was definitely one I wanted. The only problem was I had already built my own Drive-In. The solution? My original Drive-In now has 2 screens! Something for everyone!

  26. Aww man! I wish u could afford this one! So tempted to go premium just for this!

  27. I might have enough donuts by the end of the event.
Definitely going to consider getting it !!

  28. i had enough doughnuts for either this or the super collider so i got this with out a second though, but was a lil sad for not getting the collider since i am a big fan of it…..then BAMB 30 doughnuts in a UFO and that collider is mine !!!! ^_^

  29. TSTO Facebook page just said “The creator is coming to springfield” in an upcoming update. Any ideas?

      • If it is “MG”, and we need donuts for him, that will be another reason for me to not buy the Drive-In. Even though it really is sooooooo cool!

… I may just pull the sugary trigger for the collider, though, especially if I get to shoot down a doughnut carrying UFO! 😀

  30. I love the drive in and the space mutant. This is by far the best addition in this update.

on a side note did you guys see the Facebook post that the tapped out page made a few minutes ago? Who do you think the creator is? I have an idea but I’m not sure if they would actually put him in the game or not
