Sunday Night Open Thread

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

How are my favorite Addicted Tappers this evening?  How was your weekend?  Do anything fun and exciting?  Getting excited for Santa?

Anyway enough rambling from me….it IS Sunday and you know what that means, right?  No it’s not time to see what happens if we give Bunny more Egg Nog! (we know what happened last time) Nope it’s time for another Sunday Night Open Thread!

Here’s where you can talk about anything you want to talk about…TSTO Related, Simpson’s Related or ANYTHING.  Just no Add me requests…those should go here.  We’ll give you a few suggestions (like most Sunday’s you can talk about the current episode of the Simpsons) but for the most part you’re free to talk about ANYTHING your little Tapping Fingers desire…just keep it PG.

So…here is your Sunday Night Open Thread.  No new Simpsons tonight..but the Christmas Event is still in full swing in TSTO.  How are you enjoying the event?  What presents have you gotten so far?  Sunday Night Football tonight features the Cowboys vs the Eagles.  Who will come out on top with the lead in the Eastern Division?  How did your team do today?

So chat about the Simpsons, TSTO, update fun and glitchs, the NFL or anything else you can think of!  Can’t wait to chat with you all, you know we LOVE hearing from you!

Have Fun!  And happy Sunday!

  1. Hi there – can you advise on a link to send issues to EA? I currently have two:
    1. Christmas task list items from completed days still appearing, albeit with check marks
    2. Judge Snyder quest (pt. 1) not clearing even though complete (the Forum advises it’s a known problem and to ask a certain person for help, but he hasn’t)

  2. Great news for Roku users! They just added the FXNow channel, which provides free (assuming you have a cable subscription) access to every episode of The Simpsons ever! Woo Hoo! 🎉

  3. Mary Jo and Val,
My sincerest apologies for lack of news from my end. We had an electrical storm last week and lightning zapped nearby house and since then I have had no internet coverage on my PC..not sure what the go there is. Strangely I have wifi signal for my iPad…but no broadband connection so I’m wondering if my wee modem got a tad zapped before the surge protectors kicked in. I have land phone line, but no internet! I even lost coverage for my mobile/cell phone for several days as well, so I think the local tower may have been hit also. Of course….your email address are on the PC…not on my iPad, as I don’t access my mail from here. I am hoping to talk to some local genius in the hope they can wave their all powerful magic wand and fix whatever ails my wee puter!..and do the house work while they’re waving that wand around would be absolutely perfect! Lol.
My hand is healing nicely but I do have some numbness issues so am a tad disappointed. Just hope it is all part of the healing process and that it comes good sooner rather than later. I am so tired of trying to get the cats to join me in an intelligent conversation! Seems like all they are interested in, is – feed me, feed me, feed me! Lol Jamie may be home early in the new year, so I will just drive him insane with the incessant chatter that he missed out on while I was home alone! Lol
    Take care dear friends,
    Cheers, Julie.

    • Julie, I have been thinking about u and wondering how everything is going. Boy! If u didn’t have bad luck, u wouldn’t have any luck at all. Lol. Your life sure is interesting, to say the least. I understand about cats. I have five of my own. It is funny how each one sounds different. I can always tell which one is talking. Lol. So happy to hear u r doing better. I take it that u r not having pain in the hand that they did surgery on. Did the doctor tell u that u may feel some numbness?

We r doing very well here. Wendell is back to his old self. Of course, he does not remember that there were any issues. He just keeps on motating. Have to love the old dear.

Must seem odd without Jamie around. So funny, u going to talk his ears off. I am sure he misses u and will be happy to be back home.

It is nice u have someone to fix your pc. I do everything on my iPad. Email, pay bills, order stuff, and of course play The Simpsons. Lol

Well, going to go for now. So happy to hear from u. Take care and have a very Merry Christmas. Love u dear friend.

      Mary Jo

  4. I really wish they’d add a one-hour crop to Cletus’ farm. If they did, what should it be? Bumpkins (which would look kind of like pumpkins, only with some kind of “countrified” touch to them)? Let’s get creative here!

  5. Got through Jingle Bell Wreck Part 12… and blammo. Nothing. Part 13 will not start. (Every character free, game reinstalled, etc.) After about 2 days of this, I spent SIX HOURS contacting EA, repeating the same information over and over again, only to be told that they’ll email me back in a couple of days.

Is this typical EA customer service?

  6. For the record, after I-don’t-know-how-many days in which most or all of my neighbors have been sending feds constantly throughout the day, I have still never once awakened to feds in my town (even after going out to Krustyland and back), even though, after at least 9 or 10 hours of inactivity, my town should be “heaving” with the. Do other people find their town full of feds when they awaken? If so, what’s up with my town? It’s not a big deal, I guess, since I do get plenty of feds over the course of the day, but for some reason, this is really irking me.

    • Could be your time zone vs. your neighbors time zones.

      • Yeah, I suppose, but it seems unlikely to me that, out of 100 neighbors, exactly none of them would send me any overnight feds (not to be confused with overnight FedEx 😄 !).

        • Is your Origin ID also at the end of the alphabet? It’s possible not all are visiting you. Or they just all have weird times. I know I try to drop at night (for me) but sometimes it ends up being daytime before I get to it.

      • It’s definitely not a time zone thing, since I awaken to a town full of handshakes.

    • Sandra…I have the exact same thing happening in my main town. I thought I just had some forgetful neighbours, but now I know someone else is having the same thing happen…I’ll stop cussing out my poor neighbours, LOL. I have three other towns and there are Feds in them each morning so I don’t know that it is a time zone factor…but then again, who knows?
      Cheers, Julie.

      • Yeah happens to me when I do not wake up in middle of night to collect like a true addict. Sometimes I actually get a good nights sleep and do not Tao. Seems to be when it’s just handshakes. I have wondered if they are invisible but today had one fed only and handshakes by you and others so not sure. Does seem odd tho.

    • I do two drops every 12 hours of ALL neighbours, as in the first run of all neighbours some are full so i come back 12 hours later to do the rest. What I am finding though is many neighbours are clicking on buildings even when I am online and know I have cleared up all feds ….. (I wake up to find one fed and all buildings tapped) everyone should have the ability to use them now and i don’t know why some people are purposely tapping buildings instead of giving feds especially since i have been dropping feds for them since day dot of being able to. The purpose of having a neighbour task is to help eachother but it’s really not fair for some to take and not give. I’ve decided from now on that I am either going to just tap their buildings in response or simply remove and replace them ……

      • Do not make ANY assumptions about what your neighbors are or aren’t doing, fed-wise. I believe that there is a big and random time delay between what they do and what you see. There appears to be a serious disconnect in time between your actions (clearing feds), their actions (leaving feds, if it looks to THEM like your town isn’t “heaving,” which may not be connected to when you last cleared your town of feds), and what you see (no feds, but some handshakes).

I suggest that you just continue to do what you should be doing (clearing feds when you see them and leaving feds for ALL of your neighbours whose towns aren’t “heaving”) and assume that friends who tapped buildings instead of leaving feds saw your town as “heaving” because of some kind of time delay. (After all, it’s easier for THEM to leave feds than tap buildings, so why wouldn’t they, if they could?) The only friends I think you should consider removing are the ones who Origin shows as having been inactive for however many days meets your personal tolerance limit or friends who never seem to do anything for you at all.

    • Sandra, as a scientist, I do not just make random assumptions about anything. I am friends with some of my neighbours around the world and we message eachother straight after a fed drop …. the longest lag has been approx. 7 minutes and the shortest was approx. 1 minute based on a 7 day week of two drop times 12 hours apart. And yes, I am aware that conducting a simple experiment on a game seems a little odd, but I am on break and bored ……. and it doesn’t leave my house looking like a makeshift lab like my other side line experiments lolz

      • Sorry – didn’t mean to insult you with my comment and thanks for sharing your experiment results with me…I guess I’m odd, too, because I find them quite interesting! ☺️

Someone else on one of the threads on this site also conducted similar experiments with different results….IIRC, he sometimes saw lags of several hours. Unfortunately, I don’t have any IRL friends who play this game, so I haven’t been able to conduct any experiments myself, so I’m left with making deductions through inference (like the fact that, still, I’ve never awakened to a “heaving” town – even after a trip to Krustyland and back – but I do have a bunch of handshakes and I do get lots of feds all day long).

Perhaps it depends on what server you’re on or what color socks you’re wearing…who knows?. I just think that, given the various observations I’ve made and what I’ve gleaned from others, it’s still better to assume that most of your friends are leaving feds, rather than tapping buildings (when they can), since its actually easier for them to tap the button than to hunt for buildings to tap.

    • All good Sandra, yeah maybe a server issue …. can’t be the colour of socks … I don’t wear them …. too hot for those here atm lolz …. but After removing the building tappers and adding new neighbours I seem to have a lot less building tappers and more fed drops so …… would be a multitude of reasons why some didn’t drop feds …… but I am no expert on human thought and behaviour so I won’t dip my toe in that pool …. I will try not to be so harsh, give them another chance before i hit that remove button lolz

    • Well, apparently this is a glitch that many folks are experiencing…there’s a whole thread about it over at EA’s discussion board.

One person posted a workaround that seems to be working for him/her (based on two nights of observations) that I’m going to try myself tonight. The proposed workaround is to visit Krustyland last thing at night, then do a hard shut down. The idea is that this gives the game a chance to sync right before shutting down so that, when you open your Springfield in the morning, the game doesn’t just perceive it as a “resume” action.

I don’t know of this theory had any merit, but I figure I have nothing to lose by giving it a try! If I remember to do this tonight, I’ll try to also remember to post a follow-up in the morning to let y’all know whether it worked.

  7. Just found Plow King’s Plow in my inventory. No idea where it came from! 😀

  8. Not sure if this is the right place, but has anyone else had issues when visiting friends? On some of my friends after I visit and try to move on, I’m kicked out and when I go back in, it appears my visit never happened. Thanks!

  9. Woo Hoo! Just got a 🍩 for cleaning up Springfield. Haven’t gotten one of those for months!

  10. Just wanted to say how much I love all of you! I know this is the place to go to for all of my tapped out info. I’m personally loving the event ahead and for the first time in a long while I’m ahead of schedule to get all of the prizes (thank you E.A.!).
    P.S.
As a super bartender if you need a good recipe for egg nog or any other holiday drink let me know.
P.P.S. Remember don’t drink and drive take a cab, uber, lift, friend, walk home please don’t drink and drive.

  11. Hi all! Only recently found the site, been playing since CoC event started and I’m finally approaching the current max level. Thanks for everything you do, Alissa, Bunny and Wookiee, as well as the entire addict community.

Anyone else in the U.S. notice tonight’s Christmas episode was the one featuring Frosty the Hitman and King Winter? I wonder if it was a happy coincidence or intentional game and/or show planning. Wish I’d recorded the show so I could pause and read every silly Frosty movie spoof title. I’ll probably go look it up some time, when I’m not overdue for bed the night before my first ever movie theater marathon for The Hobbit…

  12. How ’bout them Bills ! =D

    Let’s go, Buffalo !

  13. I am up early here in UK with manflu………..taking a sick day today so feeling sorry for myself 🙁 🙁

In terms of SSB I love him appearing in the game I know people buy training walls but I’ve go 2-3 and at maximum % points. Clean your grapheti and send legs and Louie to prison that will sort it.

  14. It’s so intense in Australia at the moment!!

    • Awful situation in Sydney

      • Yeah, the fear all those people are going through is unfathomable. All of Australia has gone on alert and amped up all police forces.

      • A chocolate shop seems like such a random place to decide to do something like that! It must be unbelievably horrible for the people involved, but I agree with the editorial article I just read in the Sydney paper that said that the government’s reaction to it unnecessarily amped up the public’s fear and tension.

      • Thank you both for your thoughts. <3
It is finally over but sadly a life was lost. It could have been worse but 1 is still too many. It was absolutely haunting watching it live, it's something I'll never forget. Brought me to tears to be honest 🙁

    • It’s a very sad situation. I know many people in Sydney that could have been there. I’m sitting here watching the news and hoping it ends peacefully. Going on nearly 12 hours now.

    • Agreed Kevin. I was watching it live as well and was totally caught by surprise. Absolutely awful, especially for the the family & friends of the victim.

I won’t forget it either and shed a few tears myself.

  15. Morning everyone! Slightly hyper despite it being 4:30am because I’ve just had a coffee before I leave for work in a minute. Man Utd beat their rivals Liverpool 3-0 yesterday so I’m really happy. Especially since my boss is a Liverpool fan and I can give him some stick later.
Just completed tunnel 13 a few mins ago and I am about 2 days ahead of the present calendar. So good times all round.

  16. Loving the Christmas event so far! I’ve been playing since the day it launched and I’m already at over 9,000 presents. Yay! Right now I’m waiting to start Tunnel 13. Bart has about 1 hour left on a 24-hour task from the main quest I’m on. Don’t you hate when a quest from the regular game ties up one (or more) of your characters from the Christmas event? D’oh!

    • I hear your distress, but I’m actually a bit jealous of it….I recently finished all available non-premium quests under both Springfield and Krustyland, and I’m really missing having quests to do in between event quests! There have been a couple of times the past few days that I’ve been kind of bored with the game because there really wasn’t anything to do!

So, I guess we all have our game-related crosses to hear lol! 😉

  17. Does anyone know or is neighbours with rdhstuff? Or do you read this rdhstuff?! I haven’t been able to visit since the start of the event as the town keeps crashing my game – I have maximum neighbours and this town is the only one I can’t visit. I’ve tried deleting and re-adding twice to no avail – EA recommended that rdhstuff delete and re-add me, so I’m making an appeal! I’m not being un-neighbourly, I just can’t visit and I feel really bad about it!

  18. I personally love the nativity scene. In this event. I had to screen shot that one its great. (Yes I got a boatload of donuts and rushed some things). But this is the first time ive been able to do that). Anyway the Nativity scene when all the Simpsons are there is My favorite so far.
Theres maybe only one thing in the TSTO game that kinda bothers me. Thats when your in Krustyland I feel like when I tap the people for their tickets and they stop, turn and look at me like I just stold there tickets. It makes me feel bad hahah. Does anyone else feel the same?

    • I don’t feel that way about the Krustyland visitors, but I have been feeling a bit like a sweatshop foreman with the elves…. As soon as they finish their 4-hour shift, I ring the bell and send them right back in. The only break they get is for about 5 hours, after they’ve finished the 4-hour shift I sent them on before bed and when I awaken and pout them to work again. I’m sure this is in violation of labor laws (on the other hand, it’s somewhat reflective of the plight of the “real” illegal immigrants that this game had them playing the role of!).

  19. It would be really cool (although it would take a lot of graphic design work and programming) if, during this event, one could tap on something to make it look like nighttime (or maybe just twilight), so one could really get to appreciate all of the Christmas lights, etc.

Also, having just gotten Flanders’ house decorations, I’m surprised he didn’t go a little more “all out.” Where’s the house in the neighborhood with the zillions of decorations and lights that “dance” to Mannheim Steamroller or something?

  20. My Packers lost… I am sad!!!! 😢

  21. Happy tappin everyone hope everyone’s been enjoying the Xmas update as I have. I’m a little behind on presents but am hoping to catch up before the end. I really like what EA has done with this update 2 parts seems to be about perfect I thought the 3 part Halloween was a little much. Oh and I want to give wookiee a special shout out cuz ever since he nuked and began rebuliding his town it has been coming together really nicely. I’m finding it really hard not to copy his Christmas factory area lol it’s easily the best one I’ve seen out of all of my friends. Not to mention his COC castle area is the only one I’ve ever liked given I think none of that stuff fits into the game very well and have most of mine in storage.

  22. William Bergheimer

We all know we love TSTO, but how about a discussion of those things we find aggravating? Like the insane way the random tasks always seem to tie up the one character needed for a daily event, or how the rabbit always drags you across the town when you set a task, or perhaps how Mr teeny keeps screwing up the character assignment when you don’t set him on his one task. Honestly, they should have just left him an NPC…

    • Someone stole my burrito™

You can store Mr. Teeny. You can also ignore the daily tasks. I’d tell you to store your rabbit but I’ve discovered that you’ll be called a hoarder if you try.

The way Sideshow Bob drags you across the screen and how ofter he shows up for such a tiny payoff is kind of annoying.

      • William Bergheimer

I found during halloween that ignoring daily tasks greatly enhances how often my game crashed. As for Sideshow Bob, I so agree. I’ve seen him so many times lately I’d consider the death penalty for him if I could. I have so many hidden training walls in town to compensate for the penalty he gives you it’s not funny.

      • It would be nice if, randomly, even if rarely, catching Sideshow Bob yielded a one-donut reward! Would increase the motivation for pursuing him (especially in very large neighbors’ towns, when the focus doesn’t get pulled over too him) for those who have enough training walls and money not to be quite as motivated to bother.

  23. Some of my neighbors have a broken wheel-looking thingy in their towns. I’m trying to figure out what it is and how it got broken. (The same image appears in your most recent weekly recap, so I’m sure it’s not a hacked item.)

  24. My game seems to have become very “laggy” over the last week is anyone else experiencing this?

  25. I assume that they never release a new level in the middle of an event, right? To be honest, I’m finding myself a little more bored now, since I’m all caught up with all of the freemium questlines in both Springfield and Krustyland, and the Christmas event doesn’t have much going on besides the tunnel. I’ve been taking some time to do a little “redecorating,” but I’m finding that I have some space for new buildings, but there aren’t many left to buy that I want (not interested in the more “fantastical” ones, like the popsicle-stick building or the stairway to nowhere, plus they’re wildly expensive!).

I probably shouldn’t feel this way if it weren’t for the fact that I’m on vacation from work and temporarily bed-ridden, so I don’t have as much else to do as one might normally have.

    • Actually…wrong…quite wrong. Lol. They have done it pretty much every event. HAHAHAH.

      • Well that’s happy news! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a level update soon (but preferably after I get the bonus donuts I’m close to getting for maxing out the XP meter, so, if they could wait just a couple of days or so, that would be ideal…).

In the meantime, I spent quite some time tonight (while waiting for Bart’s last tunnel track to finish so I can get my 100-present bonus and go to bed) expanding my town a little to rearrange some of the more artificial-looking congested areas…give stuff a little more breathing room and to relocate a couple houses that were kinda stranded by themselves in amongst commercial buildings. It probably looks a little better and a little more natural, but I must admit that a smaller town was easier to monitor.

  26. WanderingCaveman

    Hey Addicts,
Just wandering by to say hi. I’ve got limited access to my phone right now and have been using the few moments of free time I get to check in on my town. I may or May not have dropped a boat load of donuts to make sure I don’t miss any of the holiday prizes : P
The recent guides were really helpful after being away from the game for a couple of months. Also, thanks to all my neighbors for not dropping me from your friends lists.

  27. Hey tapped out crew! I posted on the “friend me” page recently saying that my B account needed some friends and I made it clear that I may not play it frequently, but i promised to not unfriend do to inactivity. A surprising number of people jumped on board and friended me. I think perhaps we could benefit from a friend sign up that was specifically “I promise not to unfriend due to inactivity” to specifically cater to B accounts and infrequent players. Wouldn’t it be nice to leave an account untouched for weeks and come back to find you still have all your friends? Just a thought. 🙂

    • Too many posts to make all the ins n outs requests. We suggest just note what YOU would like in your request comment. Then others with same can add you. 😉

  28. Has anyone else found that their kwik-e-mart isn’t making money anymore? (but still scratchies)

  29. Someone stole my burrito™

I have a question for anyone who wants to answer. How many more years of life do you see this game having? I understand that there are years of content, but will interest wane at some point? And where will we put everything in a year or two? Those who have been playing awhile, is your interest waning, do you see yourself playing for years to come? Just curious. Thanks.

On a side note, I am a Peanuts™ fan. I’d love to see a Peanuts™ tapped out, with the same attention to detail as this game. I don’t care for the Street Fair game. I don’t like the way it looks.

On another side note, someday, wouldn’t it be great if you could buy a console game associated with your Tapped out account, that allowed you to explore your Springfield at street level? Interact with characters, enter buildings. I’d never leave the house.

    • Hey! That’s my burrito! :burrito: 😛

      • On a serious note, I think that EA will continue to support the game as long as the following things happen:

        1) People keep buying donuts; and,
        2) There are no contract disputes with anyone who owns any of the IP (intellectual property, i.e. copyrights and the like).

When interest begins to wane, I suspect EA will start to pull programmers and designers into other projects, and perhaps create a “final” level. Keeping the servers on is pretty cheap, compared to the other costs, so they will probably support the game for as long as a few diehards are still buying donuts from time to time. Another “free” game I play probably has just a few dozen regular players left, but the server is still up because the cost of one server and domain registration is less than the continued ad revenue from the site. I don’t know what EA will do with this one, but I suspect we have years to go before we need to worry about it.

A bigger concern, to me, is the size of the app. As EA adds more and more content, the space requirements are going up and up — and this has the potential to leave some players behind. Many devices are being sold (still) that have just 8GB of storage — not enough in my opinion, but manufacturers are responding to consumer demand for low-cost devices — and the files for just one game like TSTO can use a significant portion of that memory. I don’t see the file size shrinking in the near future, so many players are going to find themselves unable to download the app, or an app update, and are going to stop playing and stop buying donuts.

A Peanuts™ game similar to TSTO would be cool, but I don’t have time for more than one social game, so I’m sticking to TSTO — at least for now.

    • Ive been saying to my family how it would be so cool to be able to walk street level in our towns. Like a virtual game. Gosh that would be THE BEST GAME EVER!!!. So much fun to see things as the Springfield gang sees it. Id love that!!!

      • It’d be happy to be able to rotate things a full 360°, so I could have more realistic neighborhoods. As for walking “in” the town, usually I play this game zoomed out, so I can see as much as possible, but every now and then, I like to zoomal the way in and follow a character around. On my 9(?)” iPad, there is something kind of immersive when you do that.

P.S. Just yesterday or the day before, I discovered Agnes’ 2-hour task where she had CBG helping her to cross the street (which really means that they walk arm-in-arm around town. I found that animation really sweet to watch…made me feel good. 😌

    • Hello fellow Peanuts fan! 😀 What are your thoughts on the upcoming movie?

I used to play Street Fair, but had to restore my tablet and lost all progress; no way to log in and continue where you left off, like in TSTO. And to top it off, most of the main characters are premium! Good grief…

      • Someone stole my burrito™

It looks like the Peanuts movie might be great. From the clip, it looks like they have really tried to match the original voices and feel of the earlier cartoons. If they do it right, could be a new era for Peanuts.

  30. Loving this event! Seems like they’ve incorporated the best of all previous events!
