Christmas Challenges=Bonus Donuts!

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Daily Challenges first arrived way back in 2014 with the Stoncutters Event, and since then EA has been improving on them with each Event.  Typically we’ll see prizes awarded each day for completing them, and last Christmas we saw a special bonus character for completing every challenge in 24 days!

Well with the 2015 THOH Event EA decided to sweeten the deal and award Bonuts (bonus donuts) for completing a week’s worth of tasks on time (5 tasks in 7 days).  And with the 2015 Christmas Event they’ve brought Bonuts back!

Let’s take a quick look at how to unlock the Daily Challenges and earn those sweet bonuts! (20/week)

ico_priz_challengedonuts

Daily Challenges will unlock via the main questline, once you work your way through the initial few tasks you’ll see the Festive Spontaneity… Scheduled questline popup, this is what will trigger the Daily Challenges.

Each day you’ll be tasked with completing a challenge to earn a prize..the prize can be anything from a holiday themed decoration to crafting currency.  There will be five prizes/challenges each week.

So what’s a week?  A week runs for 7 days, from Monday at 5am local time (YOUR local time) to 4:59 am local time (YOUR local time) the next Monday.  So you have a FULL 7 days to complete 5 tasks.

What happens once you clear all 5 tasks in one week?  You’ll earn 20 FREE Donuts!!!

2015-12-11 14.34.38

So let’s quickly rundown some of the basics…since I know several of you will be asking…

-Each day at 5am LOCAL time (YOUR local time) a new task will unlock
-Day 1 starts on a Monday and day 5 unlocks on Friday
-You have a FULL 7 days to complete 5 challenges.  Which means you have until 4:59am LOCAL time to complete all 5 tasks on the following Monday.
-You DO NOT have to complete the previous day’s challenge to unlock the next day’s challenge.  So in otherwords, if you don’t finish Day 1’s task on Monday you will still unlock Day 2’s task once the timer for it runs down.  So if one task seems daunting, don’t worry you have plenty of time to finish it, so don’t stress!

I will try to post the rundown of the week’s challenges on the Monday of each week, but remember it won’t be verified in game..so it’s just a rough schedule.

There will be four total weeks of Daily Challenges, for a total of 80 FREE Donuts if you complete them all on time!

Here’s a quick look at the weeks:

-Week 1: 12/8/15- 4:59am 12/14/15
-Week 2: 5am 12/14/15- 4:59am 12/21/15
-Week 3: 5am 12/21/15- 4:59am 12/28/15
-Week 4: 5am 12/28/15- 4:59am 1/2/16

Again, I’ll try my best to post the week’s challenges each Monday when they reset, for those of you who like to plan ahead.

What are your thoughts on the daily challenges?  Thoughts about the FREE donuts?  How have you done with the challenges this week so far?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Free donuts.. Mmmhhh yummy {drooling homer icon}

  2. So I have not received this quest line and so I haven’t been getting daily challenges (this is the first time I’m hearing that they brought this back for the Christmas event). What should I do? Contact EA? I feel like I just wasted 20 donuts unless I get this issue resolved by tomorrow.

    • Have you completed the other questlines to get it? In particular the white elephant in the room? It won’t trigger unless you finish the correct questline in front of it

      • I’ve completed that I believe. Right now I’m doing the last task for the snowman, im waiting for someone to drop a present in my Springfield so I can clear that from my task book, and then I’m just sending the kids to do the slushie quest whenever they’re free.

      • So I just reinstalled the game and now I have the quest. Before it wouldn’t let me tap a present in my own town but now it worked so everything is ok.

    • There is no questline icon in the task book to remind you. You must remember to keep track via the tab in the event menu which is accessed via the new icon at the bottom right to the left of the Bart & Milhouse friends/neighbors icon.

  3. I’ll be finished with my daily tasks for the week today and since it’s my birthday I can pretend EA gave me 20 minutes for being born lol.

  4. I love this free way to get donuts if you’re a hard worker and want to earn them! Thanks ae

  5. Couldn’t see comments this time

For soccer fans like Rachael in Swansea, it’s Manchester United at Bournemouth, tea-time kickoff who would have thought it

I’m no fan or expert but I say 4-1 to Man United ⚽⚽

    🎁 🎄 🍩 🙂

  6. I got 20 donuts visited some friends… Came back to my town and got another 20 oO obviously a bug lol

  7. I love bonuts

  8. Got to go work till lunchtime but, bonuts later 🍩🍩🍩🍩🆒

  9. I’m grateful for the “Free Donuts” obtained courtesy of EA’s decision to use the “Daily Challenge”.

This makes up for the lack of Neighboreeno visit rewards (only 5 Gifts a day? Boo!) AND the fact long time Tappers can’t use Character Skins (Flanders Claus, Homer Mr Plow, Ebeneezer Burns) or Buildings (Santa’s Workshop, Elf Home, Elf Caves) or Decor (Christmas Trees) to generate what we need (Santa Bats, Blue Baubles, Green Ribbon)!

I have no idea what I would spend the Donuts on (at this time, I don’t see anything worth spending then on for Xmas 2015). I will wait and see what else EA has to suprise (or let us down with) later in the Event …..

  10. Oh good, nearly got them 🍩🍩 Saturday morning, just need to send Willie 2 more times 🙂
But we’re back to evil shopkeeper, with people not reading the post and thinking they have to do each challenge within ten minutes of it unlocking …….
You have the whole week to get donuts….don’t panic !

    🆒 🍩 🎁 🎄 🙂

  11. There seems to be a typo in the 6th paragraph where you say the week ends at 6:59am on Monday instead of 4:59am like you do in the rest of the post.

  12. YIKES – SPOILERS!! Not allowed here. Usually moderated out, but poor Alissa is understandably exhausted, so we all must be as good as we can at policing ourselves, okay?

  13. I don’t see any indication of Baby Gerald, or a new Funzo outside of the original three.

But the Funzo category now being a “Robot” category has my Brain (happily) Storming … But I think I’ll try to hold onto those crazy ideas for Sunday’s thread :p

  14. Just noticed this issue today, where it takes me to the first scene where Homer blows it all up, even though I am logged in while the game loads.

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled, but is this a widespread issue or just me?

  15. nice, makes up a bit for the terrible friend interaction this event – only 5 presents a day for all friend, nothing else to do socially. ive been unfriending anybody who clicks naughty on the present, and just adding somebody new from the add me lol

    • Don’t you think that unfriending is a bit extreme? It’s just a game and meant to be fun.

      • I’d agree that unfriending seems a little harsh. The present is a bow. Who cares?

        • Any argument against unfriending naughty players works doubly against being naughty in the first place. If no one cares because “it’s only bows” then why risk alienating neighbors for the chance to get 25 rather than 15? On the other hand if bows are a valued resource (which they obviously are) then it is unethical to try and jack your neighbors out of them. The difference between playing naughty and unfriending naughty players is that one is self defense the other is unjustifiable. I haven’t taken the step of unfriending naughty players, but I understand those who do… who wants to play a social game with someone who will jack you any chance they get? Just like in real life, I don’t want to expend the resources to maintain a relationship with someone who I have to worry about taking advantage of my kindness. One could make the argument that if you do nothing to prevent being taken advantage of then you are complicit in your own victimization.
For me, the ethical argument alone is enough to keep me from taking advantage of a neighbor’s kindness, but I could also point out that since groups with prosocial members thrive more than those with selfish members, cooperation is an adaptive behavior as well as being the ethical choice.

      • Some of my naughty friends have been some of the best neighbors in the past, generously responding to my formless terror gifts during THOH 2015 or visiting regularly between events. And my initial reaction was to be a bit pixie-like and choose to be Naughty. Now that I understand better how this works and with limited resources it is hard to makeup for bad behaviour, I am taking the straight path of NIce only.

Being Nice doesn’t mean I am turning the other cheek. Before I check their history on the Naughty or Nice Leaderboard looking for blue and on the Naughty or Nice Results board. Since I started doing that I am getting a Nice response every time. I am not kicking formerly good neighbors to the curb, but I am giving them them the cold shoulder if they are Naughty.

      • Maybe unfriending people is fun to them? /devil’s advocate 👿

      • The game clearly shows who picks naughty and nice. It shows I do 100% nice, so anybody who chooses to take advantage of that I have no issue unfriending. Not fun to me to have friends who get greedy in the game, even if it is fun for them. I do not know any of my friends, the only reason I have friends in the game is to get the prizes. Since EA chose to only give is five presents a day for some reason, the prize payout is 15x higher for both clicking nice than somebody clicking naughty. Plenty of people willing to be nice.

  16. Did you post this week’s challenges somewhere? I’m on the second-to-last and it’s taking me awhile, so I was curious what the last one was so I know how much time I’ll need to get it done!

  17. Definitely good news, although even with this week’s challenge done I’ll be 10 donuts away from getting Victor’s Secret 🙁 Hate when they only issue something for one week, if you don’t have money for donuts you totally miss out, even though the event is like a month long. Think it’ll return at the end of the event? lol

  18. Mmmmmmm bonuts🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩

  19. Humpf, I completed the challenge earlier today but did not get the bonuts 🙁

    • You finished all 5? When you finish all 5 go into the challenge menu and you’ll see that popup saying you’ve been awarded 20 donuts like I posted here

    • Wookie the Wise reminded us that Willie needs to,perform his four hour task 4 times..
      I,too was confused, at first.

  20. I love these weekly challenges for bonuts. 😍

  21. Excellent.

  22. This was great news. Just like THOH, most Friday’s should be awesome 25 bonuts days, with 20 from these daily challenges and 5 from monorail. (Though I was fortunate to not experience any delays in the monorail this week and got my 5 donuts yesterday.)

  23. It seems like I have to uninstall/re-install my game every day, due to it going back to the opening cutscene, even though on the loading screen it shows that I’m at level 54.

    • Whenever it goes back to the cutscene for me I just restart my device. Usually what’s happened is you got an update asking you to sign in to EA again, but you tapped too quickly and started playing anonymously. Restarting device will prompt you to log in again 🙂

  24. Fwiw, I’m now able to view a handful of comments at a time, as long as I don’t click on ‘Comments’ and/or use ‘#comments’, Alissa… which is a definite improvement over the past few days. Wishing you & yours only the very best, now and always. 😊

    • Oops… Forgot to add that for w/e reason, the site’s been taking an exceptionally long time to load.

      • Oh, good – it’s not just me. I was going to post the same thing! But then I thought maybe it was just my iPad’s browser, and it did seem way better on my Kindle, so I wasn’t sure anymore.

How whatever’s going on doesn’t take long to resolve…I already spend literally hours a day on this site (during times like this) and I can’t afford to spend even more time!

        • K let me know if it continues please…i dunno if i have to go back to the other format again. WordPress is adding way to much stress lol

          • Not all can be fixed by switching themes back and forth (turning it off and on again). I’m surprised that WordPress can’t figure it out. I’d offer my assistance, but I’ve yet to even check out the page in a web console to see why it gets stuck.

My opinion is that it’s those ads we’re not supposed to complain about. Since your template rarely changes (save for these last two times), that would mean the ad server is the problem. They must have changed something there. Some kind of JavaScript change on their end. Pages will stick while waiting for a script to complete, one which may get stuck in a loop. (I’m a web developer. I work with JavaScript. You may or may not understand me….)

What they can’t figure out, most likely, is how to keep the changes they made and have them work on fragile ecosystems like those using mobile connections where important components may not download, preventing part of the script from running. When this happens, the page will stop rendering right at the script location. That’s always the stopping points for me (besides really long comments sections): top ad and middle ad.

The other possible reason is the servers themselves. You said this site has crashed servers before. They might be in need of another upgrade, such as additional servers and better locations. I mean for the ads, btw. This is possibly why some people’s experiences are different than others. Where we connect from matters.

Like I said, I haven’t checked things out except through the power of supposition. So, who knows….

        • Have you tried the new iOS 9.2 update? Works well for me Sandra.

          • Interesting…. I thought about whether that might be the problem (not having updated to 9.2), but my iPad is a work device and they won’t let us update until they’ve thoroughly tested it, etc. So, I’m waiting for the email that says it’s okay (but I’m on vacation, so not really reading my work emails). Might go rogue and do the update anyway, but not unless I know for sure that that would fix the problem. In the meantime, the problem doesn’t exist on my laptop, so, inconvenient as it may be, it’s less inconvenient than what’s going on with my iPad right now…

  25. Who was the bonus character last year?

  26. Can’t wait to get them, I have Willie on his task and still stuck debating what to craft :/

    • Hey totbox! I was wondering if you had any room in your town for another neighbour?? I’m slowly trying to add all the regulars from here and i don’t *think* i have you yet 🙂

  27. I’d like to add this is my favorite TSTO site. The posts are relevant, well written, thoughtful, cheerful and funny. Other (to remain unnamed) sites seem to be all about vomiting data at you with little context, or being unnecessarily snarky and salty about things. They’re still alright, but you guys do it the best. 🙂

  28. Excellent post Alissa, thank you 😀

  29. While EA are seemingly so generous with bonuts at the moment has anyone else noticed that EA are also full of Christmas Cheer? The price of donuts in the store has increased! Bah humbug EA!

Oh and Sandra is not the only one that will like the return of the original theme… Well done Alissa!

    • My game does not reflect any changes to donut prices. For example, I can still get 2400 for $99.99 or 12 for $1.99. Do you pay in a currency other than U.S. Dollars? If yes, you might be experiencing a pricing increase due to changes in currency exchange rates, which is of course is out of EA’s control.

      • A 50% increase has nothing to do with currency exchange rates… which by the way have been stable for awhile!
Do you work for EA? I can see that as the only reason you would go to bat for EA.

        • Whoa – that’s a really unfounded and unfair assumption to make! If you’ve been on this site for a while you’d see that people fairly frequently question why the cost of donuts has gone up in their app market and the answer has always been because of an increase in the market itself, generally because of changes in taxes or whatever, so I’m sure that this person is simply taking his turn passing this info along (since we’re all trying to help out the busy moderators by answering questions, when we can). I don’t think that the people asking this question have ever been from the U.S. (which is further proof of this). The prices have remained completely stable for the 16 months or so that I’ve been playing this game.

At any rate, I can assure you that the price has not changed here in the U.S. and, therefore, is not something that EA has done. If you have a complaint about the increase (and, yes, 50% does sound like an unreasonable change…are you sure you got that right?), then you should contact your app market to inquire about it.

And, no, I don’t work for EA either, I promise you!

  30. This is fantastic news. I like that the tasks are not super difficult, but still require a decent amount of time and dedication. You can’t be a super casual player and hope to get them, but if you put in the time you can certainly score some sweet sprinkles.

It feels (even more) rewarding to log in multiple times a day now. 🙂

    • They’re the same prices for me, as far as I can tell. It might be a regional adjustment based on changes in exchange rates, which is usually dictated by the store and not the developer.
