Christmas Challenges=Bonus Donuts!

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Daily Challenges first arrived way back in 2014 with the Stoncutters Event, and since then EA has been improving on them with each Event.  Typically we’ll see prizes awarded each day for completing them, and last Christmas we saw a special bonus character for completing every challenge in 24 days!

Well with the 2015 THOH Event EA decided to sweeten the deal and award Bonuts (bonus donuts) for completing a week’s worth of tasks on time (5 tasks in 7 days).  And with the 2015 Christmas Event they’ve brought Bonuts back!

Let’s take a quick look at how to unlock the Daily Challenges and earn those sweet bonuts! (20/week)

ico_priz_challengedonuts

Daily Challenges will unlock via the main questline, once you work your way through the initial few tasks you’ll see the Festive Spontaneity… Scheduled questline popup, this is what will trigger the Daily Challenges.

Each day you’ll be tasked with completing a challenge to earn a prize..the prize can be anything from a holiday themed decoration to crafting currency.  There will be five prizes/challenges each week.

2015-12-11 14.34.43

So what’s a week?  A week runs for 7 days, from Monday at 5am local time (YOUR local time) to 4:59 am local time (YOUR local time) the next Monday.  So you have a FULL 7 days to complete 5 tasks.

What happens once you clear all 5 tasks in one week?  You’ll earn 20 FREE Donuts!!!

2015-12-11 14.34.38

So let’s quickly rundown some of the basics…since I know several of you will be asking…

-Each day at 5am LOCAL time (YOUR local time) a new task will unlock
-Day 1 starts on a Monday and day 5 unlocks on Friday
-You have a FULL 7 days to complete 5 challenges.  Which means you have until 4:59am LOCAL time to complete all 5 tasks on the following Monday.
-You DO NOT have to complete the previous day’s challenge to unlock the next day’s challenge.  So in otherwords, if you don’t finish Day 1’s task on Monday you will still unlock Day 2’s task once the timer for it runs down.  So if one task seems daunting, don’t worry you have plenty of time to finish it, so don’t stress!

I will try to post the rundown of the week’s challenges on the Monday of each week, but remember it won’t be verified in game..so it’s just a rough schedule.

There will be four total weeks of Daily Challenges, for a total of 80 FREE Donuts if you complete them all on time!

Here’s a quick look at the weeks:

-Week 1: 12/8/15- 4:59am 12/14/15
-Week 2: 5am 12/14/15- 4:59am 12/21/15
-Week 3: 5am 12/21/15- 4:59am 12/28/15
-Week 4: 5am 12/28/15- 4:59am 1/2/16

Again, I’ll try my best to post the week’s challenges each Monday when they reset, for those of you who like to plan ahead.

What are your thoughts on the daily challenges?  Thoughts about the FREE donuts?  How have you done with the challenges this week so far?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Quick comment….. I think family guy could take a lesson from tapped out! I play both regularly and I spend ages on tapped out but family guy is so slow (the Christmas event), a few minutes and I have done all I can where Simpsons has at least kept me tapping and entering more. And very generous with bonus dounuts. Compared with constant need to buy characters with clams and getting the odd 1 clam to watch an advert!

  2. How do you earn presents to drop in a friend’s town?

  3. Anyone notice the babysitter bandit in the list of villians? When will we be able to get her and how?

  4. Interestingly after my 20 donut bonus my “Confirm spend donut” option magically turned itself off? Anyone else?

    • Happened with me too

    • Anytime you bring up the confirm box the checkbox for “don’t ask me again” is right under the cancel button and if you accidentally hit that, even if you then hit cancel, it turns off the confirm.

  5. When should we stop upgrading the Hot Squishee Station??

I don’t mind getting 100 Santa Hats every 5 levels, but it is becoming boring. EA should put a lvl cap on it lol

  6. How do we get more presents to leave, for neighbors? I left 5 on Other Springfield but haven’t recried any more.

  7. Are any other rappers having a hard time seeing white text against a white background when neighbors leave presents?

    • Yes, pretty much all of us. Fortunately, there’s a list where you can go see people who most recently left you gifts and whether they played Naughty or Nice. If you go into the event hub, it’s the bottom icon on the left, after you’ve scrolled all the way down. (Has a picture of devil Bart and angel Lisa on it.)

  8. I’m hopeful that we will be given more opportunities to give and receive presents in rounds two and three. 5 presents a day is paltry. I’ve been able to craft the Wooly Bully, (1) Festive Bow LampPole x3, and the Ski Chalet, but bows are very hard to come by without the presents. So I’m not sure if I will be able to craft anymore act one prizes. Though- frankly- I’ve crafted the most important things.

  9. @ SheBear : if you are alone with this issue, you are lucky not to get the as I. Minus 100 donuts during the night ! Nice surprise this morning and do not have time to phone to EA considerîng I am at GMT +7 and the cost of international call.
We should contact EA by mail and if no answers and fix, play only freemium or hack it to fix it yourself .
Issues about disappearing donuts are too much frequent.

  10. SCcandy and WMDiego ….just deleted you
Take the naughtiness with you, greed is not cool
See I’m feeling volatile, no nonsense …. Decisive

I can hear, “but it’s just a game” from the easy going types and I would agree most of the time, just wasn’t in the mood at that moment so they’re gone 🎄 🎁 🍩 🙂

  11. Just realized something about the marshmallow trees. All their leaves are gone because of winter. so they’re probably gonna look even cooler once the event is over…that is all.

  12. I know this is the wrong spot to ask this please forgive me but just finished snow man and am on to the second one finger bread house and it says make number 1 do a task but it is locked says I need fewer lattes please help thanks again for all you do
    Shaun

  13. I don’t get my daily presents. I got my 5 on Tuesday but haven’t received any since then. I wrote on another post (on this site) l. I contacted EA which was absolutely no help at all. The live chat doesn’t work and when I was on the phone with them no one could help me. They didn’t understand what my issue was. I’m really upset that I can’t finish my weekly task. Anyone else have this issue? Other than this I love the Christmas event! 😁

    • you have tried going to different neighbors?

    • I really think that EA is your only chance at getting help for that problem….keep trying back until you get a rep who can really help. (You may have to wait until Monday, when the Texas center is open again. Unfortunately, even there you’re gonna have to start out talking to someone who probably won’t know what to do, but they, at least, can escalate it to someone who does.

      • only other thing ive done to fix some errors are do hard stop on the program and reopen…of if you have time and bandwith, reinstall. not always a fix but sometimes faster than EA

  14. Gol durn it, I’m still having that issue with the comments not displaying!

  15. Can’t see the 83 comments this time,
🙂 don’t despair Alissa, ….the bits and bytes will get sorted in the end….and in the meantime it gives the place character 🎁 🎄

  16. 🙂 a smile for lost comments

  17. 🙂

  18. So am I the only one who got TEN bonus instead of twenty?

(I know, I know…contact EA…sure, in ALL MY SPARE TIME)

Just seeing if anyone else had the same issue.

  19. Finally collected enough baubles to craft the ‘necessary’ (IMO) Ski Chalet last night, but think I’ll hold off til next week. I anticipate “craft an item” to be a task next week. I usually like holding off on ‘unnecessary’ crafting til the last day of the event, so I’ll save my ‘necessary’ crafting for any tasks that might come up. This week, to complete the task, I had already done some ‘unnecessary’ crafting by crafting a SLH Snow Dog. I hope they bring back the 0.75% bonus that was previously associated with this item.

    • it has a payout, so why not craft the chalet right away? as soon as i had enough resources to do so, i did. also intend to craft the igloo and the clams sign, so i can save those for next week if there is a craft-an-item task again.

  20. Maybe not the right thread for this, but has anybody else noticed some of their walls changing position (e.g. bramble hedges and bio-hazard walls)?

    • Yup the bio-hazard walls 🙂

    • Yes, I’m very annoyed about how my prison looks now with the change to the biohazard walls. I hope they fix it.

I’m also very annoyed that the 16 hour Evil Chortle task for Kang and Kodos no longer takes place at the Victorian UFO. It looks odd to have them doing it separately in random locations. I’ve also noticed their position changing every time I reload the game, to the point where Kang almost drifted off the map :/ I’ve had to change their standard task in my town, which makes me sad because I loved that task. I hope they fix that, too.

  21. That is a lot of donuts, and they weren’t hard to earn. Yay!

  22. Hello everyone, does anyone know if there are tasks you can send characters on to earn santa hats other than upgrading the snowman? The only one I see is the Mr. Burns white wizard tasks. Thank you!

    • That is the only one I am aware of to this point.

To maximize hats, one strategy for truly hardcore addicts who check in at least every four hours is to double the amount of time for the main quest line by truly maximizing the number of people you send on tasks.

Let’s say you have to send 6 dimwits on a 4 hour task with 16 hats per dimwit and let’s say you have 6 dimwits in your town. Most people, who don’t check in multiple times a day, should just send those 6 dimwits and collect their 96 hats (6 x 16) 4 hours later. Myself, Simp7, Sandra, and many other hardcore addicts are maximizing hats by initially sending one fewer person, so in this scenario sending 5 dimwits on the 4 hour task and keeping the sixth dimwit busy on some other task for 4 hours. Than 4 hours later, we are one dimwit short of completing the task, but this time we send all 6 dimwits on the 4 hour task. We than wait 4 more hours for all 6 dimwits to complete the task and have now collected 176 hats (11 x 16) in 8 hours. This yields nearly double the hats (sometimes more than double if you have some premium characters), but takes double the time.

Whilst many of my neighbours are already on the gingerbread house, I’m still working on the snowman. Though, when we both finish the questline, I should be significantly ahead in terms of Santa hats. Again, this will take twice as long to complete the quest, so I would not advise this for the casual tapper, only for the true addict.

      • i question whether you are truly ahead in santa hats with the method you are employing. if you are taking longer to get through each level upgrade and progress through questlines, you are not receiving the substantial santa hat bonuses that come with it. the goal is to rack up santa hats as fast as possible to reach the 28850 mark that unlocks all the prizes, allowing you to start on the bonut rounds. at least, as a daily, mostly freemium addict myself, that’s what i’m trying to accomplish.

        • But if you speed up, while you’ll have more days to do neighbour visits and tap merrymen in your town, you’ll be further along in the questline and receive fewer Santa hats as bonus that will count towards the bonuts.

I’d personally rather unlock Patches and Poor Violet with 3 or 2 days left and still be working on my gingerbread house, collecting bonus hats from the questline, and be left with only a day or two of tapping on merrymen and neighbour visits; as opposed to having sped through and complete the questline and unlocking Patches and Poor Violet with 5 or 4 days left and only getting the hats from merrymen and neighbours visits.

I guess this Act 1 will be the trial act as to which method works better. Most people, my sister included, are just rushing straight through it. I’m doing everything in double time (still ahead of the calendar though). We’ll see which method ends up with more Santa hats at the end of the act, and if I need to change methods I will do so for Act 2. Especially important to find out as Act 1 only has two attractions in the Snowman and Gingerbread House, whereas Act 2 has at least four attractions at play.

      • Your strategy is great for collecting hats, bad for conserving time. I don’t have the time and patience to try your strategy. I send all of the characters (in my inventory) to perform the task. I usually have more characters than needed (including some premiums) to complete the task. So i get the task done quickly, whilst maximizing hats.

        • Like I said, definitely don’t recommend maximizing hats for players who don’t have time to check in regularly to their game. For most people, I’d recommend they follow you and send as many characters as they can in the first shot to get it done quickly. Just to clarify, your method will get the tasks done quickly, but doesn’t truly maximize hats.

          Quickly method:
Suppose you send eight dimwits when it ask for four, you will be awarded for eight dimwits in four hours, getting the task done quickly, but at the expense of not truly maximizing hats.

          Maximizing method:
If you send three dimwits when it ask for four, you’ll then have the opportunity to send all eight four hours later, getting you the true maximized number of hats from eleven dimwits, but at the expense of doubling the time.

      • I’m curious whether this technique takes into account that the completed snowman pays out hats. Do you really earn more hats by delaying, or does it even out in the end?
Not that I could take advantage, mind, since I already finished my snowman, I’m just curious if anyone has done the math on it.

  23. Was going to send Willy on his last round at the Woolly Bully, but he was needed to complete the last (10 hr) round of snow building tasks. So that’ll be completed tonight, and I just unlocked the dancing reindeer. Still wish we had the real reindeer, but he’ll have to do 🙂 So far really loving this event! Can’t wait to get started on the gingerbread mansion and start getting the daily challenges done for 20 bonuts!!!

  24. I hate to say this, for fear of sending Alissa over the edge, but I’m having a LOT of trouble getting this site to load….it takes *forever* (like a full minute or more) to get a page to load. This is making it almost impossible for me to respond to comments that I see in my email. 🙁

Are others experiencing this, too? I’ve tried using other browsers and such, but the results seem pretty much the same. (I thought it was better in my Kindle, but I think I was mistaken…and, at any rate, that device isn’t really anywhere near as good for keeping up with this site…haven’t tried my laptop, but that would be really inconvenient to use most of the time…)

    • I can’t decide if this is good news or bad, but the problem seems to be restricted to mobile devices only….loads fine on my laptop. Not sure what can be done or whether (*blush*) the problem is only with the old theme (can’t remember whether the problem started before or after you changed the site back), but this could really hamper my posting ability here… (Okay, I hear some of you cheering out there….maybe it’s all for the best?)

      • It’s with both…which is what I thought. It’s a general WP problem, not restricted to one theme or another

      • My experience is just as Alissa says, same problem with both themes, the comments don’t always show till you make a comment yourself, but haven’t got problem with slow loading Sandra, I use an android tablet,

Stick with it Sandra, your comments are always worth reading, and generally reflect the opinion of most sensible tappers 🙂

        • Gee, thanks, Lee – that means a lot to me! 🙂

I’m temporarily using my laptop, where everything loads fine (and where typing comments is SO much easier). It’s less convenient, but, with the volume of comments coming in right now, it wasn’t feasible to use my iPad for that anymore (and my Kindle screen is too slow and I’ve lost the knack for Swyping quickly on it).

    • I may have to go back to the other theme…loads of issues all over the place. Going to try and reach out to WP once again and see what’s happening

      • Oh no! This theme, aside from the familiarity, has yielded far fewer issues with comments. Oh well, whatever works best for you and the majority of your readers.

      • For what it’s worth everything is running smooth on my end. Comments are loading perfectly on my phone and PC. Only issue I have is not having a mobile friendly version for my phone. Kinda a pain having to zoom into the comments on every new age, but other than that the switch to the old theme fixed everything for at east one person! LOL 🙂

  25. I had 9000 hats and I collected from the Wooly Bully and was set to go to over 10000 however my total went back to 8000. Has anyone else had this problem? As Im not sure whether to contact ea or not cos I’ve no proof of it. This has me worrying about the rest of the event and I was really enjoying it up to now

  26. YAYYYY for donuts!!! Woohoo!!!!

Question: Was there ever a Should I Buy for the Helter Shelter? I know that it used to be free, but I jumped on board afterwards, and I searched the archives but couldn’t find any article… I’m torn between buying the Helter Shelter or the Animal Shelter…

  27. Really aggravated with this event….opened a ticket yesterday with EA because I haven’t been able to do neighbor visits since it started. The tech said a specialist would contact me via email about rolling back my game to the last point it worked. 24 hours later, nothing. Still stalled on the initial quest line, missing out on present giving and Daily Challenges. I feel like that commercial with people having things break on them – it should just work!

I’ve played since the Freak Show Halloween event and never had this much trouble with the game.

    • Maybe uninstall and reinstall the game?

      • I did. Three times before contacting EA. It’s now been 48 hours since contacting EA and I still haven’t heard from a specialist via email about rolling back my game. I have pretty much resigned myself to missing out on this event altogether.

  28. Hey guys!
How do I get more gift boxes? I already gave the 5 gift boxes to my friends springfield but since the daily quest (where I have to put 5 gift boxes to other springfields) is still not completed, I guess I need more boxes..

  29. Hi need help in deciding to buy bolling ally and earn 24 hats or the duffy center and earn 200 in 6 hours. Thank you.

  30. 🙂
