It’s that time of the week again, time for the Addicts Weekly Open Thread! So, let’s get the conversation going! Oh and remember…just because this is posted here today doesn’t mean you can’t comment on it all week long. This open thread will still be open for comments long after today is over!
Here’s where you can talk about anything you want to talk about…TSTO Related, Simpson’s Related or ANYTHING. Just no Add me requests…those should go here. We’ll give you a few suggestions (like most Sunday’s you can talk about the current episode of the Simpsons) but for the most part you’re free to talk about ANYTHING your little Tapping Fingers desire…just keep it PG.
So, here is your Open Thread…..
Act 1 of the Sci-Fi Event ends on Tuesday morning, are you ready for Act 1 to end? Excited at what Act 2 might bring?
Speaking of the Sci-Fi Event…what are you planning on doing with your event items? Creating a dedicated area of your town or working stuff into your Springfield? Or are you just planning on throwing it all in storage when it’s over?
So the second tunnel for the Monorail arrived last week, make any major design changes? Have you worked the Monorail into your town successfully? Does it loop?
How was your weekend? Do anything fun and exciting? Personally, we spent the weekend down at the Jersey Shore. The last chance we’ll get to do so before summer ends…
So chat about the Simpsons, TSTO, Update fun, or anything else you can think of! Can’t wait to chat with you all, you know we love hearing from you!

Has anyone else not gotten anymore boardwalk tiles from the submersable?! It’s come up empty for the entire week! I need just 5 more to finish my new design.
It will go thru phases. I’ve had that dry spell before, and then gotten several in a row. Keep at it. 🙂
There’s no possible way I am going to get the final prize. Not without spending some donuts. Damn it, I am so depressed about this. I still have 4000 more dark matter to go.

Maybe it’s okay to spend donuts… I was thinking that I might have to, but I hunkered down and managed to the final prize with 26 hours to go. I definitely had enough donuts to get him, though. Someone had pointed out how getting the license (what’s it called this time?) costs 90 donuts to help with earning dark matter, so I figured that if it was 90 or less then why not buy Sgt Skinner. Getting it down to 60 or less is probably okay, too.
Don’t be depressed, just get ready to work harder during act 2. 🙂 Try switching out your Daily Challenges for prize track currency. (Last event I got a lot of them… This event, I maybe got one of them….)
My daily task says tap the anomaly I don’t know what it is taking about.
When visiting neighbors, it is the glowing cube. Visit neighbors regularly. You’ll know the town has one to tap because the game will take you to it in the town. It’s a random pop up so if it’s not in a neighbor’s town, keep on visiting and eventually you’ll find one. Voila, task accomplished.
It may have been pure luck, but when I got that task, the anomaly was in the first town I visited. That’s the only time I’ve had it other than in the event walk through.

so far the sci fi event builds are huge…big footprint, especially if you want to space them out and add decorations around them

Not sure which question you were asking…
Now, I may not be a veteran player (*crowd gasps in astonishment*), but the first event I took part in after starting the game was the first Superhero event (which is perfect for me since I like super hero themes). Being a new player at the time, I wasn’t able to get all the prizes for the first week BUT I remember still being able to collect the prize currency until I got ALL the first week prizes before being allowed to move onto the next week’s quests and prizes. I don’t know about you, but I really preferred that more than how it works now.
The only other event after that where I wanted all the prizes, but couldn’t get them all, was the Monorail event – I missed out on Ray Patterson and the Hippie because of a crazy schedule and internet problems, but I finished all the Act 3 prizes with loads of time to spare. Had the above superhero-like system been in place, I probably would have had everyone and earning all the junk/metal/plastic/glass would have been way easier, and I’d have many more donuts now as a result of the weekly Monorail bonuts.
Speaking of which, will there be a Should I Buy on the Hippie & Recycling Plant?

Should I Buy Uriah’s Heap Recycling Center and the Hippie?
Pros
– helps with monorail recycling tasks.
– for 15 more donuts (than jimbo at 120), you can get a building to go along with your character, as well as a 24 hour task to hacky sack with an actual sack, not a frog.
Cons
– was once unlocked as a free prize, costs donuts now.
Conclusion
– though i got this combo for free, i like both the character and building enough that i would spend donuts on it. however, as a permanent addition to the game now, it wouldn’t top my list of combos to buy, as there are others i’d get first (akira/happy sumo and jub-jub/pet shop are cheaper options that come to mind).
But is the combo (formerly free) worth 135 Donuts?
I guess it’ll depend on what the weekly Monorail prizes look like after this week (i.e. tomorrow).
It’s always a matter of personal choice. I wouldn’t spend 135 on him…
as i said, i would spend donuts on it eventually, just not before other permanent combos in the game.
Ah, I see. You’re right…there doesn’t seem to be an SIB post for that.
I will say that, if you’re planning to do the recycling stuff each week, and if they’re going to go back to the old target of 70,000 blueprints a week (instead of the 25,000 they’ve been doing lately), then he’s probably worth getting (although I can’t say for sure, since I don’t know how much they’re charging for him…I got him as a prize during the original monorail event).
I didn’t get to experience this system, but it does sound better, to be able to continue to earn act 1 prizes while everyone else is earning act 2 prizes. It just means you’re behind and maybe that you don’t get act3 prizes. Maybe the downside is more down than it sounds.
Yeah I liked that system way more. I wonder why they changed it? (Probably to get people to use money to buy donuts to buy the prizes they missed?)
I love having the second tunnel! Now I have to get more track to make one giant loop. Monorail is my go-to, when I am in-between events. Fun to revamp things.
I like this sci-fi event, but am irritated that I prob won’t earn enough matter in time to get Sgt. Skinner.
I’m looking forward to what Act 2 may bring, and hoping the next big prize is attainable.

I love my two tunnels, but I’ve stored them both (and this is a good thing). I don’t recall if we’re talking about it here, but it’s a similar sentiment that I can now connect my rails between SH and Springfield. ^_^

Newest download was to wishbone – (semi-social media thing) so far so good. (If it gets out of hand, I’ll delete it)
I usually dedicate a 4×4 section of town to the event, fence it in with event fencung, and build a small monument for each. My last Halloween one I particularly like with wailing walls alternating with spooky walls around the perimeter, a hedge maze of eye hedges with the Munthster Balloon in the middle.
I’d like to do that (but probably 2×2 to work with the area-selection tool) but I usually end up buying a strip of land and placing everything there…

Yes..I’ve gotten 2 or 3…quite a few of the Kang & Kodos topiary…1 of those air monster flying thingies from last Halloween..just keep sending it!!

The mobster balloon must have come from the insanity mode. I gave gotten a lot of Stone cutter fences, bamboo patches, and pumpkin patches from it so far, but no balloon.

I’m freemium and would never deign to spend sprinkly goodness on a nuke, and you can’t as far as I’m aware “purchase” the inflatable, unless you received in an event, which I never did. I’ve many neighbourinos here whom hopefully will back me up.
(Also, apologies, it has been brought to my attention my Future City is no longer PG due to certain placement / addition of recent items).

Lets just say placement of two of the recent domi-globes in front of my sunsphere was pointed out it looked a little like, er, two balls and a shaft (desperately trying to remain PG).

Well, started getting the last prize for act 1 yesterday and today. Out of my 15 towns, I have three left and should finish act 1 in them tonight. This has been a great event so far. Bunny’s calendar helps me a lot. Thx, Bunny. Glad u r feeling better. Mary Jo

I’m just kidding. I just spend doughnuts whenever EA tells me to. I honestly have no idea what I’ve spent in game cash on and what I’ve spent doughnuts on. It’s all good. Either way I’ll get every character that comes along.

Thanks to a daily challenge awarding 1,100 dark matter, I am, once again, (slightly) ahead of the calendar. Hoping this means that I should have no problem getting the final prize now (kinahora), albeit probably not early enough to get in any bonut rounds, but I’m fine with that!
So I’m closing in on completing Level 12 and the 1500 needed for the Park-Arium”, and my wife starts asking me questions and I hit “Upgrade” instead of purchase.
Grrrrrr.
Now I’m working on Level 13 which requires 1100 to complete but the prize is substantially less.
OTOH,
I think the next level requires 644 4/5 Robot Parts to complete – leaving me with a remnant of 1/5.
Don’t know what I’ll do with a Fifth.

It’s sad that I’m almost level 43 and I haven’t even build the Spinster City Apartments, allowed to get at 36.
I can tell you that I was several levels past and completing other levels BEFORE I got King Toots. I thought I missed out, but eventually it came to be.

Your XP level and gameplay levels are two different things. Your XP level might be much higher, but you still need to play through the questlines in order to reach the next gameplay level.

I’m right there with you, I’m not going to get him either😔. I thought I was doing well, and would manage to get it done, but this event has been more difficult for me with earning dark matter. I won’t spend my donuts on him, especially with better holiday events on their way.
So as of next month I’ll have been playing TSTO for 4 years. Started in September and was totally hooked by Halloween 2012. Never thought I’d still be at it. Just want to say thanks to EA and to you guys for running an awesome site. It has certainly helped keep me on the donut bandwagon 🍩🍩🍩
Wait. Where /how do we get the second railroad tunnel? I only see 10 donuts and rail pieces at the end of the week. Am I missing something?
Just keep earning the final prize for the weekly challenges and the second tunnel will eventually be one of your offered prizes.
If anything, you just got to the weekly prizes late. I know I got a little behind and updated a week late, and my weekly prize is the Mallorail station.
Loving this event. Haven’t been pushing too hard and am close to my second round of bonuts. No idea what to do with it all yet, probably won’t design too much until I see all the prizes, so many. Some I’ve already incorporated into my main town but should still be enough to do a themed area.
Same. I used some of the more tech stuff with existing layout. I just finished my “Wild West” area……I think. Usually it takes me awhile to get inspired (as primitive as it may be).
I’m thinking about moving my south central industrial and trash areas next to the wild west so I have room to incorporate my future stuff with my tech area. I have to wait until act 3 to see how much new stuff there is. Also hoping to get my 2nd tunnel this week so I can try this glitch to get rid of the mountains. If I can combine all of Springfield and have it feel like it’s all one city and get rid of the heights as a separate area I’m going full speed on redesigning. Right now the heights is just a monorail playground and dumping ground for stuff I don’t know what to do with.
You’re not worried about EA patching it? They could place the mountains permanently and then what happens to all the items you have placed there? Do they get stuck or maybe the game just completely freaks out and doesn’t let you in? It’s a risk that may or may not be worth taking, depending on what happens when EA fixes it.
It does look cool to remove them, but I put them back. I’m not going to mess with it.
That’s my thought process, which is why i’m not touching this one.
if i’m honest, i’m actually a bit worried about it… i’m thinking about just removing the stuff i have in there for now (rails and water tiles), and leaving it empty until ea patches it…. and then see where that leaves me.
Oh I’m in no rush and have no immediate plans, but I’ll take out the mountains and give it some time, if it proves to be permanent I’ll play with it. It’s not even the mountains that bug me, I’d be OK with it. It’s more the fact that characters wouldn’t wander around up there.

You’d have to check comments on other posts because I don’t have the second tunnel yet. As far as I understand from my limited knowledge is you put them next to each other in the mountains, store them and a section of yr mountains disappear.
One of the regulars pointed it out but I don’t remember who and I can not confirm it works but love the idea. Won’t get rid of them all as I like how look next to the ocean and they are central to my park design but would love a mountain pass.
I think you’re taking a big risk taking advantage of the glitch. You could wreck your game forever if and when EA fixes the glitch. I don’t think I would want to risk my town over this glitch.

If you don’t have enough matter to get the future Skinner character, will he be able to be purchased with future bucks in act 2. The last time a missed a character on the prize track was the plant mutant from the sideshow Bob event and you could buy him with resorces in the later acts. I was wondering if that trend still carried over from past events, or do I just not get the character
Most likely he will be available to be purchased for donuts. That is how the past several events have been structured.
If you’re fairly close to the goal number near the end of the act, you may be better off paying donuts to “accelerate” the prize track and get him than if you wait until after the act is over and get him for donuts as a premium character. That’s what I’m planning to do, if I can’t catch up before the event is over.
Wow, I just got over 50 invaders killed thanks to the suggestion of tapping the photo flash from the upper right at the 1 second mark; and by being more aggressive in my tapping- i.e. Using two hands and bouncing all over the screen rather than politely tap tap tapping with one finger! 😀

I wish the white robots i’m tapping all looked like Bender from Futurama. That would be so awesome.
My husband and I both play TSTO. He plays on iPad, I play on Kindle (Android). When we started the sci-fi event, he was consistently ahead of me. I was afraid I wouldn’t get Sgt. Skinner, but I bought the Elysium and Future Maggie/stadium. Both with donuts. He hadn’t bought them. After buying the two donut items, I had two daily challenges for a total of 2600 dark matter. Now I am way ahead of him. So my question. He also plays every day and hasn’t had those two daily challenge dark matter rewards. What’s up with that?
Challenges are random. Everyone gets a different one. He just hasn’t been as lucky
You can dismiss tasks to get a different one. Just click the little x on the task when it appears.
