Straight from the Comments: A Monorail Opinion Poll

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Well…still nothing new in our games to speak of.  In fact it’s still Valentine’s Day in Springfield.  Despite the countdown clock ending just under 12 hrs ago & today being February 25th there is still no update.  But that’s ok.  We’ve got TONS of great posts to keep your Tapping minds and fingers fresh!

One such post hit the blog this morning and that was Wookiee’s Monorail post, truly a great read!  What I love most though is it’s sparked so many of you in the comments to sound off on your opinions.  Your opinion on the Monorail being added to TSTO, ideas for how it can be implemented into TSTO AND even a great debate about the best Simpsons episodes!  (nice to know my fellow Tappers LOVE Homer at Bat too!)  We love hearing/seeing/reading your opinions in the comments and you guys never fail to make us laugh or think!  You guys truly are the BEST. READERS. EVER.

One awesome comment that really sparked my interest was this question from Tapani Kangas:
“Here is a question for all of you ‘fellow pro-tappers’
HOW MANY DONUTS WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO PAY FOR (the) MONORAIL?
Just to be curious.  Let’s just say that:
-It would come with 4h, 10h, 24h tasks.
-Would have a nice animation
-Does not include a character
-Adds a 5% overall bonus”

Between that comment and another comment on the same post from Mike:
“It would be perfect if it worked like the Squidport. Build the monorail station, tap on the station to build a new section of track every few hours, and then you could design the path/route around town any way you like.”

I’ve been thinking and I want to know YOUR opinion.  Pretend for this example YOU ARE EA and you’re designing the Monorail to enter into Tapped Out.  How would you do it?  Would you make it a premium item?  If so for how many donuts?  Would you make it an expansion like Squidport?  Where you have to build one piece of track at a time?  But it would cost game cash?  If so how long would each piece of track take?  Would it be able to go around Springfield AND Krustyland?  Or just one or the other?  Or would you make it just a broken down Monorail, that doesn’t run.  It would be some broken tracks and the station.

After that I want to know….if it does cost donuts would YOU buy it?

So put on your design hats and sound off in the comments below about what YOU would do with the Monorail if you were a game designer for EA.  You know we LOVE hearing from you & can’t wait to see how creative you guys can be!

  1. Off topic but best Simpsons episode was the one where Homer smokes pot for his eyes and “kills” Mr burns

    LOL

  2. I do really like your broken down monorail (station & couple tracks) idea. If EA really wanted to make a working version, like SquidPort, you could even use that broken version as the starting point. In which case I would suggest the broken station/tracks is a mission with game-cash & the sections as donuts & a mystery box item. (I would not pay donuts for it.)

But let’s face it, the monorail would be decorative in nature. EA could tie-in holiday themes via Christmas lights, flags, banners, ect. Or even a changeable billboard backdrop.

The challenging part would be to do so without taking up too much land or blocking out buildings. My guess is that like most novelties it would quickly find itself tucked away in a back corner.

  3. Thinking along the lines of the monorail, there is an episode where Bart pulls the ultimate prank with the underground train line. Whilst not a MASSIVE update, in the context of a monorail, it could be something EA could consider opposed to the monorail?? Realistically, it would only be one new building.

  4. The Squidport entrance didn’t cost donuts. The Krustyland Shuttle didn’t cost donuts. If there is going to be a buildable monorail, the station or starting point should be available for cash, and the additional cars or pieces should be built like Squidport tiles. Any additions, like characters, skins, or decorations that would come with it, could cost donuts. I don’t understand all these people saying they’d spend so many donuts on it. I really want to see the monorail in the game, but if it cost 300, I’d have to do some serious thinking about whether I need it. I have bills to pay and I don’t use cheats so I DON’T HAVE ANY WHALES.

The idea sounds cool in theory, but the implementation of this is problematic from a user standpoint. The monorail is an elevated train that runs over top of everything. Building one that runs around the town would mean that lots of our hard work in designing would get obscured. It’s already challenging enough to place large buildings without covering over our previously designed areas.

Also, even if we were able to make it look right without putting too much of our previously done work into obscurity, the incorporation of this train would force us into a massive overhaul of our town. How many people are ready to “blow up” their Springfield in order to seamlessly add this train?

Sorry, but based on most of the comments on here, I’m clearly in the minority in not being on board with this.

  6. hat would be great update but they´ll come up with new cool stuff soon enough don´t you guys worry =] it´s a big business for ea don´t forget. ..
i would rather see the game/app be solid first. it seems that the it can´t handle big towns already. as a huuge simpsons fan from day one on tv and a human aka collector i bought a few donuts to play with so i´ve almost every building / every character and decoration
[i am only missing 4-5 buildings/3-4 decos and 2 characters]
+ at least 1000 trees?` and almost no more space left ..
i can literally see the app working while i move across my town. if i do it too fast or zoomed out the app freezes and after a few sec. it crashes
[other apps are turned off on my iphone while playing]
friends with big cities are reporting the same..
i can only speak for myself .. . i think before adding huge new buildings or even shelbyville or whatever . .. the game should be solid first! we all spend a lot of money and much more important a lot of time playing. it should be fun for all parties at all time.

  7. I think it would have to be broken down with one main station with the monorail on it with the option of putting debris and other bits of track all over our Springfields. I, personally, can’t see how it would work as an actual monorail going around our whole town. It would get in the way surely? And I don’t think it would look right with the game being 2D (not including the 3D illusions obviously).

  9. I would adore the monorail and like the idea of it being a separate entity. I think though, that I would like it better if I could also use it to visit my friends town. In list format rather than having to click on the friends button and scroll through page after page of graphics.

    • As well I think the first piece should cost donuts and additional pieces cost money. I would be able to justify buying a main station for it if it gave me the friend option I mentioned previously. I don’t think I could pay donuts for every piece.

    • I like this idea best so far. I would love to visit friends instead if block my town. I would also like to be able to gift my friends inventory items. I’m not interested in another squidport build or shuttle to somewhere. I would pay 10million or more since the zirconia is half that. donuts maybe 100 since the mayflower seems equally as desirable.

  10. Okay, so I watched the episode…I was soon saddened by the voice of Phil Hartman…I did cry when he died…sorry.
I enjoyed the episode, otherwise and my opinion is shared with most here in the comments…HOWEVER…I fear that all this wishful dreaming could be setting us up for disappointment…for example; I was expecting a telescope for christmas but Santa got me a pack of tighty whitey underwear instead…hadn’t worn those since the 80’s.
I also don’t trust EA…but since they DID mention it last month I feel that they will come through with it…eventually…and it’s gonna be either donuts or $6+ million …that’s my guess. Can’t imagine where they’ll put it or allow us to put it.
Gawd, this underwear keeps riding up…

    • With those tighty whities you can still pretend it’s the 80s ala Risky Business 😉

      • Riiiight…just take those old records off the shelf!!!…

      • Mark (@brucejwayne)

@freaknstein8 Now all you need are a pair of Homer bear slippers and a matching brown robe and you’ll be all set!
I hope the Monorail comes with Homer costume and Bitey. If it’s the run-down Monorail then maybe a structure where theres a building with the huge donut and the Monorail “M” stuck to it.

  11. I would shell out 300 for a working monorail instead of a whale

    • Yeah just keep filling EA’s bank account up and for what this really is a great game but so un realistic on donuts like you say 300 donuts for a whale that is almost £20 in real money not many people can SHELL OUT to buy this amount of donuts its ridiculous and daylight robbery you could easily spend £200 on donuts and still not have enough to buy everything on the game so how is any mono rail ,whale ,building or any item actauly worth real money for a 2d picture it’s not !!! Unless you have more money then sense to SHELL OUT it is ridiculous .then the issue with the server crashing all the time then daily play rip of box after 5 days open the box yeah 30 donuts then cannot connect to server then oh mystery box again yeah oh no a parking lot where did my donuts go or why have I been billed for 2 golden scratch cards when I only brought 1 so many issues to fix and with all the donut money they make why not improve the server and game instead of over charging £3 for 60 donuts that you can’t even buy any building with maybe a police car and an ambulance but that’s it money well wasted I hop for the future of this game they get a little more generous with donuts because it really is silly and I wouldn’t pay donuts for a mono rail in game cash yeah donuts no way they can keep it and I will keep my money thanks

  12. A little off topic but I never got an App Store update to “shut down” the Valentines update. I do not know if it is just my problem or is every fellow tapper experiencing this. I was hoping for a level update. As of 5:00 P.M. 2/25/14.

  13. If they do it like the Squidport, then PLEASE do NOT take 3 1/2 days for the last tiles to be built. If it were not for the tile glitch, I would not have gotten them all, just for the insanity of having to wait that long for one stupid tile.

  14. How about Shelbyville?? Can we bug EA about adding Shelbyville!! Lets start a petition

    WE WANT SHELBYVILLE!!
    😉

  15. Didn’t it only cost them $3M on the show? Sounds about right to me.

  16. Hello! Can someone please help me? My Springfield reset from level 24 to level 7 and it deleted all of my friends and progress.I have tried restrating the game!

  17. I just hope that if the Monorail happens that the basic functions will be available for in game cash (I’d be fine with the Squidport model, where you could buy additional things for donuts but I think the basic Monorail should be available to freemium players). Frankly from a coding point of view, I don’t see how a monorail in the main city would work– maybe it could be coded as ” you can only place monorail tracks over existing roads” but EA doesn’t even let cars on the roads so…(also, does anyone else have a glitch where if you send Legs and Louie to interrogate a squealer and then you decide to add pavement, Legs and Louie get kicked out of the task? (They stayed on a different 4 hour task when I was troubleshooting but the 1 hour task glitch happened two or three times)

    • Re: Legs and Louie…it’s been happening to different tappers on that same 1hr task. Best thing to do (if it bothers you) is to contact EA.
Re: Monorail…it would be interesting if the Monorail IS the reason why we can’t place things on the roads…

      • you think EA may already be considering a monorail and that may be the reason why vehicles are roadless? That is a nice idea! 🙂

  18. WanderingCaveman

My guess would be something like the crashed space ship. Something along the lines of placing the station and then watching the monorail crash. It would be awesome if it was a vanity item that cost in game cash, but with EA knowing how bad everyone wants to see it in game they will probably try to get as many donuts as they can.

  19. well I would shell out more than the 300 donuts i payed for each(2) whale….Nuff Said!!

  20. Id like the mono to be like the sqiudport tiles. Give more people a fair chance. Im spending way too much money in this game. Im sure im not alone. They at EA must have some full pockets ill tell ya!

  21. 300+ donuts for a monorail, the “+” is for if it came with Lyle Lanley. In that case I might not have a limit 😉

  22. Donde es el poll…¿¿¿

  23. I would spend 300 donuts on it. It would have to be huge and take up 3-4 sections of land. If the whale (worst premium item for the value and relativity to the show) gives 7% the monorail should give 9%. I likely think with would be more of an add on situation though. Possibly populating to the far right of the screen…….

  24. I don’t want to get my hopes up about this one. I’m just going to wait for it to happen if it does. Perhaps the stations could be premium and then you buy track pieces with in game money. Tracks include the train.
Hopefully you can add tracks to Squidport, too. Or make the monorail aspirational.

I would buy it for donuts if it is done really well, where you can put tracks all over SF. It is hokey or just small and stupid, I would not buy it.

  25. They should give us the monorail for 1 million dollars with the guy with mono(haha) and the passengers should cost donuts or a homer conductor cost donuts!!! That’s what THEY should do! Rocket on!!

  26. I like the idea of a monorail station you buy with donuts, and then sections of track you make with cash like the Squidport sections. I also think that every 20 sections of track or so you have the option of building a substation for Springfielders to get on and off.
There is also the question of how often the tracks would need to touch the ground for support, causing the player to rearrange parts of Springfield, and how much the tracks would block the view of the town below it. I wouldn’t want it to obscure a lot of my town.

  27. Well I’m not a techie but how can they build a working monorail without giving us more land, it would need to be a loop or maybe a shuttle either way need land.

My guess a broken monorail is the realistic option.

  28. Building the track one piece at a time sounds like a good way for people to keep interest in it; plus, it can work in each person designing their own pathway (rather than a generic oval to be dropped on a sizeable set of lots).
As for price, I have stayed away from most premium items because I don’t buy extra donuts, so in-game cash would be my preference.

  29. I think if it is going to be like Squidport then it shouldn’t cost donuts and just cost game money but increase like the Squidport tiles.
