New Tunnel – The Great Monorail Fix Is In…Mostly

Monrail-MAIN

I hesitate to say anything negative about “this wonderful game of ours” for fear of bringing out the “Love It or Leave It” crowd that was a tad bit vocal about my return as  contributor here.  Interestingly enough, I have received a number of emails coaxing me to “stop being so nice” and let my “Cranky” side fly, as they find it more entertaining, and honest.

However…this is Alissa’s place. And Alissa is nice. Very nice. But, admittedly even she wants me to be honest and pragmatic (within the confines of also being nice). Which brings us to the paradox at hand.

First of all, let me state unequivocally, “I love the monorail.”  It is in my less-than-humble-opinion, the best addition to the game, ever.  There are lovers and haters of the monorail. I am a lover, and really don’t understand the haters. But, that is the way it is in the world with most things. I am not a fan of chocolate ice cream. I don’t hate it, but it is waaaaaaaay down on my list of favorite flavors. So, when someone says “I love chocolate ice cream” I mostly just smile, while I order my cone of “Apple Pie Caramel Crunch.”  No harm. No foul.

However, I am pretty sure that both camps would agree, that if you ordered an ice cream cone, and the server placed the scoops just off to the side of the cone, barely out of reach of your ability to reach it with your tongue, and you just couldn’t get to the satisfaction that is so close you can almost taste it…but can’t…that you’d be pretty torqued off. It might become so frustrating, that you just say, “Forget this!! It’s too much trouble! I’ll just have a cookie! Who needs ice cream?”

And so it is with the monorail and the addition of the tunnels to the game which almost…but not quite…allow us to connect our monorails in Springfield proper and Springfield Heights easily.

Take a look…you’ll see what I mean. You might want to grab a couple of cookies and your favorite beverage…it is going to require you to have something sweet at the ready, as I may go a tad “un-sweet” in my description.

Mega Mono or Mono Mono…It’s Your Call!

Monorail-Main

In the world of TSTO, there are clearly those who don’t really understand the excitement around the return of the Monorail, and those who think, “The Monorail is the BEST UPDATE EVER Because It Keeps on Giving and Giving and Giving!!!”

I think it would be safe to say that I am in the latter camp.

From the earliest days of my youth, back in a time when you had to make your own toy building blocks out of the tree that you had to cut yourself, after walking nine miles barefoot into the woods, I have enjoyed building things. It would be accurate that the “building things” and designing, and redesigning, and tweaking your design, is the very reason I tap.

Yes. I love the Simpsons. Yes. I like the dialogue. Yes. I think Maggie is “oh, so, cute!”  But, the real reason I play, is that TSTO gives us so many ways to build, and decorate, and create. This aspect of my personality came out early in life when I began model railroading.

I’ll let that settle in.

Yes. This CrankyOldGuy has boxes of HO track, rolling stock, and buildings, ready to set up at a grandchild’s notice. I like building things…and then watching them run.

Which is why the MONORAIL IS THE BEST UPDATE TO EVER… Oh. Wait. We already covered that bit.

But, even for those of you who are less than enthusiastic about grinding for track, there is a HUGE reward!!

BONUTS!!!

Monorail 2016: Where Are My Rail Yard Donuts?! (or Monorail Stations)

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

First, let me apologize this is going up later than usual today. It’s been a bit of a crazy day…

Anywho, the recent Monorail return has turned TSTO players into two groups of people.  Those that have the Monorail and those that don’t.  And we’re seeing LOADS of questions from both groups.

Those that have the Monorail want to know Where Are My Rail Yard Donuts?!  Or Is EA Really Getting Rid Of My Rail Yard Donuts?!  This is usually followed by threats from some of you, you know who you are, to stop playing TSTO if they take the Rail Yard Donuts away.  (which we all know is an empty threat, because you’re a TSTO Addict, just like the rest of us 😉 )

And those that are working on getting the Monorail for the first time want to know How Do I Get the Other Monorail Stations?!  Which of course is usually followed by some comments about envying them in a neighbors town and wanting a massive Monorail.  (of course those of us that all ready have the Monorail know that a massive Monorail isn’t necessarily a good thing, just look at how long it took me to load Pimp’s town in this video)

Of course, as with all sides of any issue, there are always those of you are are in between.  You played the Monorail Event and you missed a couple of things (mainly the Rail Yard) and you want to know how to get it back.   For those of you with this particular issue, I recommend contacting EA.  Because it should popup for you.  So if it’s not, something is certainly wrong with your game.

Oh and still those are those of you…in all groups…having issues collecting trash from the Dump.  This is a KNOWN glitch.  EA is working on it.  I don’t have a time frame for a patch, but hopefully soon.  Fortunately, this is NOT a timed Event.  This is a permanent addition to our games, so there’s no need to panic.

Now, after that crazy long intro, let’s take a look at the answers for those of you screaming…WHERE ARE MY RAIL YARD DONUTS?!  Or WHERE ARE THE OTHER MONORAIL STATIONS?!!

Everything You Need To Know About the Monorail

This post is meant to be an overview for new players when the unlock the Monorail.  It’ll give you the quick ins and outs, and how to of the Monorail.  For more posts and details check out these links:

All Posts About the Monorail
Monorail Event Page, links to every post written about the 2015 Monorail Event

Before I get into the details of the Monorail, let me first say as of this moment on July 26th, 2016…there is a BUG/GLITCH going around with this little update.  For some of you you are unable to use your Springfield Dump to collect junk.  This is going around, although not everyone is impacted many of you are.  Best thing I can tell you to do at this point is contact EA.

Oh and for the older players…before you freak out about the donuts missing from the Rail Yard…let’s wait and see what happens in the coming weeks.  Don’t run around like chicken little…

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

So the Superheroes Sequel update brought something many of you have been requesting back to Springfield…a genuine bona-fide electrified six-car monorail!  That’s right now EVERYONE has a chance to get the famous Springfield Monorail in their pocket sized Springfields!

So here’s the deal, this post is really for those of you who missed the Monorail Event or played the event but never got the Rail Yard.  Those of you tappin’ pros who’ve had the Rail Yard for awhile now this isn’t the post for you.  You already know how the Rail Yard works..and most likely you’ve got an extensive track collection in your town already.  So for those of you whom already have your Rail Yard and tracks, consider this your “down time” in TSTO.  Spend it reorganizing your town and working on your Rail Yard tasks to earn the Tunnel.  And just hang on tight until the next big thing hits us…

For those of you who are new to TSTO, or those who just don’t have the Monorail yet…let’s break it all down for you.

Upcoming Teaser Released From EA….

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Take a look at what we spotted over on EA’s Tapped Out Facebook Page..

EAteasersummer2015

Could this mean…?  Might this mean…..?  What do YOU think it all means?!  How excited are you for it?   Sound off in the comments below about this new teaser from EA!   You know we love hearing from you!

Just WHAT is that shadow all about?

“Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!”

In this silly little game we play, there are so many little snippets EA throws in to make us remember fond episodes we’ve seen in our lives.  One of the many joys for me writing on this site is talking about them.  In that spirit, I thought it’d be fun to point something out you may or may not have noticed.  In the past, we;ve had ghost and livers have conversations with the characters in our games, but this Easter event brought us a new one… the shadow.

Straight from the Comments: A Monorail Opinion Poll

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Well…still nothing new in our games to speak of.  In fact it’s still Valentine’s Day in Springfield.  Despite the countdown clock ending just under 12 hrs ago & today being February 25th there is still no update.  But that’s ok.  We’ve got TONS of great posts to keep your Tapping minds and fingers fresh!

One such post hit the blog this morning and that was Wookiee’s Monorail post, truly a great read!  What I love most though is it’s sparked so many of you in the comments to sound off on your opinions.  Your opinion on the Monorail being added to TSTO, ideas for how it can be implemented into TSTO AND even a great debate about the best Simpsons episodes!  (nice to know my fellow Tappers LOVE Homer at Bat too!)  We love hearing/seeing/reading your opinions in the comments and you guys never fail to make us laugh or think!  You guys truly are the BEST. READERS. EVER.

One awesome comment that really sparked my interest was this question from Tapani Kangas:
“Here is a question for all of you ‘fellow pro-tappers’
HOW MANY DONUTS WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO PAY FOR (the) MONORAIL?
Just to be curious.  Let’s just say that:
-It would come with 4h, 10h, 24h tasks.
-Would have a nice animation
-Does not include a character
-Adds a 5% overall bonus”

Between that comment and another comment on the same post from Mike:
“It would be perfect if it worked like the Squidport. Build the monorail station, tap on the station to build a new section of track every few hours, and then you could design the path/route around town any way you like.”

I’ve been thinking and I want to know YOUR opinion.  Pretend for this example YOU ARE EA and you’re designing the Monorail to enter into Tapped Out.  How would you do it?  Would you make it a premium item?  If so for how many donuts?  Would you make it an expansion like Squidport?  Where you have to build one piece of track at a time?  But it would cost game cash?  If so how long would each piece of track take?  Would it be able to go around Springfield AND Krustyland?  Or just one or the other?  Or would you make it just a broken down Monorail, that doesn’t run.  It would be some broken tracks and the station.

After that I want to know….if it does cost donuts would YOU buy it?

So put on your design hats and sound off in the comments below about what YOU would do with the Monorail if you were a game designer for EA.  You know we LOVE hearing from you & can’t wait to see how creative you guys can be!

Mono means one and rail means rail

Hey hey hey!

You know, some days I get so caught up in writing on this site that I forget one of the coolest things about it.  Not only am I blessed to have my words and opinions out here for other like-minded tappers to read, but I get to be part of a team that has my back and are people I seriously call friends.  Alissa and Bunny are two people I consider myself so lucky to have in my life.  We don’t really mention it, but other than being bloggers on this amazing site, we all actually talk to each other several times a week by phone, text and/or video and it’s not always conversations about TSTO and The Simpsons.

It was during one of these conversations, that Bunny and I geeked out over future content that might be coming to the game.  The main item discussed was the Springfield Monorail.  We both would love this to come to the game and we seriously hope EA wasn’t just teasing us by mentioning it in game dialogue.

Forget the Wookiee… Here’s What the Addicts Want

Well hello there Addicts!  It’s Friday here on the site (TGIF, right?) and that usually means it’s time for another What a Wookiee Wants.  For today, what I want is to share what other Addicts on the site want.  This site really is about the readers and there’s no better way to show this then to share some Tapaholic Requesterinos to EA.  We have a whole page dedicated to this actually and there’s even a section of the TSTOAddicts Forum for it too.

I broke up all the awesome things folks came up with into buildings, characters, decorations, tasks and gameplay.  If multiple tapperinos requested the item, both were given credit.  If I forgot someone, I apologize.  Well, enough words from me…

PAY ATTENTION EA… this is what your tappers want:
