Rare Monday Update: Gil’s Back! (Updated and Complete)

2014-08-04 13.29.57Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

A rare Monday update has hit our games…and it’s brought Gil back to Springfield!

2014-08-04 13.31.15

Gil’s back with what many of us have been waiting for…a DONUT DEAL!!!

Although…it’s not that great of a donut deal, in my opinion…..

Details below the fold

Note: Many of you are reporting not seeing the offers in your donut store.  If this is happening to you, try hard closing TSTO and restarting your device.  See if that helps to trigger it.  If it doesn’t trigger it the next step is to Contact EA.  But first let’s see if that triggers it.  If it works/doesn’t work please let us know in the comments below.

When you login to Springfield some dialogue between Lisa & Gil will kick things off (you’ll have to tap on Gil for it to start):

Gil: Gather ’round the burning oil drum, children.  Ol’ Gil’s going to tell you a summer vacation story!
Lisa: I didn’t know you were a storyteller Gil!
Gil: You’d be surprised at all the things Gil can do when he smells bored children with credit card wielding parents.  Anyway…
Once upon a time, there was a weak, tired, grey haired old salesman who needed some money to pay for his kids’ back to school supplies.  So he cooked up a bunch of donuts, because he couldn’t afford enough flour for non-holed pastries, threw them in a dumpster, and tried to sell them to gullible kids like you.
Lisa: This story sounds an awful lot like a promotional sale…
Gil: Dang it, they said children were unable to tell the difference between advertising and reality until the age of 12!
Lisa: No…that would be the age of five.

Deal Ends August 12th….08:00 GMT

Curious about what’s inside the Mystery Box?  Here’s the list:

  1. Why did they shrink the Mr sparkle billboard? Also for some my consumer rating went up. Which is very odd seeing how the only thing IV recently added was the haunted condo in K land. Was there any ratings changes in this update guys? Or did I just get a bit of good unexpected fortune

    • Who knows why EA does anything? lol

No consumerism rating changes with this update, but what level are you currently on? While Level 43 saw no impact to consumerism lower levels have. So if you just hit a new level that could explain the drop. (and Krustyland items are separate from the Springfield Conform-O-Meter. They’re on the Krust-O-Meter…those requirements have not been changed 🙂 )

  2. I went for it.. I was hoping for Planet Hype and that’s exactly what I got in the Premium Box!!

  3. I was very excited about the dumpster of donuts sale. I only had a couple of the buildings already being offered and there are several included here which are near the top of my list of premium buildings to get (including the Ferris Wheel and Lard Lad Donuts, so I would had even been happy with one of the alternative prizes). So I anxiously opened the mystery box after getting the dumpster to find… (drumroll)… It’s the Asia De Cuba building! Sigh. (Play sad trumpet sound). Another restaurant? Just what I really needed. It wasn’t exactly near the top of my list (or the middle). Oh well. I didn’t have a spot reserved for it already, so I moved some stuff around and found a place for it in my Springfield. Now with the donuts from the deal I can get what I really wanted I suppose. My chances were very good at getting something I wanted with this deal and of course, I didn’t.

    • It’s not all bad. The Asia De Cuba gives Legs and Louie a 3 hour task now. So now I don’t have to feel guilty sending them to the slammer for 4 hours when I need to keep them busy for more than an hour. There was no quest line that automatically started though, just simply the 3 hour task became available with each character (it pays $200 for each of them).

    • Yep, I got the same. Does not matter, its worth 100 donuts, somewhere in the middle of prizes – personally I hoped for Duff Stadium or Open Air Stage. But better than nothing – I finally purchased Krusty Studios using the purchased donuts. Nice addition to Itchy and Scratchy Studios.

      • Really? That is so coincidental because that’s exactly what I did. With the donuts, I bought Krustylu Studios and placed it right next store to the Itchy & Scratchy Studios. Sideshow Mel is currently walking around my Springfield without the bone in his hair (part of the quest line). I had been planning on buying Krustylu Studios and was waiting to see what might happen after the Yard Sale was over. I had pre-bought the cannon a day or two early in preparation of Sideshow Mel’s arrival.

  4. This update should have come with a fix to the last update. I still can’t get past the 2 balloons.

TSTO is now on the back burner.

  5. So, I got push notifications that a few of my neighbors visited. I logged into the game, it updated, and lo and behold no handshakes. Boo! Did the update wipe them out?

Took the deal kind of hoping for Mt. Carlmore (only item in the list I am missing) but got my second Ferris wheel. Like all the doughnuts I have right now though.

  6. Not a bad deal but cud be way better, especially since most of us players already have these items or most of them…..and why is it always having to buy donuts why not try and bring some of the items that were previously offered but instead of buying with donuts how bout buying with our dollars we earn in the game. Im sure most of us that play this game would agree with me unless they like spending the hard earned money…and besides when do we really spend the game money anyways other than on the stuff the cost the dollars….and by the way would be great if someone would fix the game connectivity issues we’ve been having really a pain when its always stops working when in the middle of something…….

    • EA doesn’t make money when you buy stuff for in-game cash — only when you spend real cash.

One way they could increase their revenues from this game would be to market some game swag — buy a shirt or coffee cup or something that is TSTO themed, and, oh-by-the-way, here’s some donuts to go with your purchase!

So far I’ve been strictly freemium but I’d go for a deal like that if I liked the merch. They’d have to work out the licensing with FOX but I’m sure it’s doable.

  7. If I may…. the Dumpster of Donuts gives you 576 donuts and a random premium item. If you don’t have any of those 11 premiums, the average value of that free item is just under 100 donuts (99.54 to be precise). So for your $35 you’re getting 675.5 donuts, or just over 19.3 donuts per dollar (DPD). And that value goes UP if you have all of the items, since the replacement Ferris Wheel and Lard Lad have between them an average value of 115 donuts.

Sure, the Christmas sales in 2012 and 2013 offer better DPD than this sale’s 19.3, but to a better return you’d have to drop $50 or $100. Even during one of those sales, there has never been a return this high for as little money.

I have none of these premium items, but even if I get the least-valuable one (worth only 60), I’m still getting 636 Donuts’ value for $35, or 18.1 DPD. I could spend more ($50) buying a Storefull (900 Donuts) and have a worse return (18.0 DPD). So for me, this sale is a no-brainer. In for 1… possibly 2.

  8. Glad to see old Gil but i have seen better deals, just not lately!

  9. Well today I just lost my “premium player virginity” so to speak haha. I’ve always been a freemium player since christmas 2012 and throughout this time I’ve managed to earn 510 free donuts, with that I’ve purchased 3 premium characters: duffman, luann & crazy cat lady, not to mention, on the early beginning of my tappin’ addiction I got squeaky voiced teen through a mistery box and a few time later once again in a mistery box I found PROFESSOR FRINK! (How cool is that? :D) So after all this time I finally decided to give this game some $$$ in return and went for the $8 dollar offer, I know it’s not much but it’s something and maybe in the future I’ll purchase some more donuts 😉

  10. Hi addicterinos!
I’m so confused Alissa, Bunny or Wookiee! Please help: I have all the buildings EXCEPT Planet Hype, FC&PD and the Natural History museum. If I buy the mystery box “deal” :-/ am I going to get one of those three buildings FOR SURE? Or will I get one of those three buildings MAYBE since the Ferris Wheel or LardLad will be included and most likely screw up my odds? I’d like to try my luck but hate redundancy….I’m on the fence until one of you talented tappers helps me out! I sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo want the NHS soooooooooooooooooo badly.

And a very belated “hope you had an awesome time at comic con Bunny!” I only got jealous when you met the Robot Chicken guys 🙂
    -sliqstream

    • No. You have the same chance of getting a lard lad or ferris wheel, as you do one of the buildings you don’t have. It’s all random & the odds of getting each item are exactly the same. No for sure that you’ll get an item you don’t have…actually more of a chance you’ll get a lard lad or ferris wheel.

  11. I couldn’t risk ending up with that horrible mountain. UK prices are £24.99 for the dumpster full of things you can’t be bothered about – or £5.49 for guaranteed FREE in game cash plus donuts you don’t know what to spend on as there’s nothing new. There are five prizes I wouldn’t want to be honest.

  12. Jumped on this deal like a kangaroo! Love it! Got lard land, so now I have two!

  13. This is not a comment on the new deal (which I can only read about because I’ve been locked out of my game!!!) but just a cry for help!!! I have been locked out of my game since JUNE 3rd!!! I send emails to EA and resume live chats on a weekly basis but no one ever replies! They keep saying a specialist will help me soon but its been 2 months! I’ve dumped over $500 into this game over the last 2 years and I feel ripped off! Since no one plans on contacting me, I’m wondering how I can get my money back??? Since everyone on this site is a lot more helpful than EA, I am wondering if u guys have any suggestions? Do I contact the Better Business Bureau at this point???

    • Try this…if you can. Install Bluestacks on your PC and try logging into your Springfield that way. Many players are reporting that Bluestacks helps them get back into the game…and it may be a situation that once you’re in you’ll need to put some decorations into storage. Could be too many decorations preventing your town from loading. If that doesn’t work…unfortunately EA is your next best bet. What you can try to do is during one of the live chats ask to speak to a supervisor OR request to speak to someone in the US.

      here’s the info for bluestacks

      http://tstoaddicts.com/2013/09/04/nerd-alert/

  14. So I have all the buildings in my town already except Planet Hype, does that mean that automatically I’ll get it in my gift box. Or will I get another Ferris Wheel or Lard Lad?

  15. Does anyone know of you can buy the deals my multiple times until the seven days or is it just one shot each deal?

  16. I am wondering if the number if donuts per dollar is better if I would purchase the 34.99 deal. Basically, am I getting anything extra besides the mystery box?

    • the boatload is still the better deal, in that regard. it works out to about 0.07 cents per donut…depending on what you win. It’s not a bad deal if you don’t have any of the premium buildings, but it’s not the best deal out there.

  17. My game has crashed twice while I tried to tap through Gil’s dialogue. Hopefully EA spend some of the money they get from this on fixing bugs! FG very rarely crashes for me whereas TSTO rarely works without crashing, even after multiple app reinstall.

  18. Most likely not going to happen. Tempting though. Not willing to put money into the game yet. Although even if I wanted to I could not purchase it. Every time I click on the store I get an error saying that a connection problem occurred. Same thing happens when I try to click on my Kwik E Mart for my scratch ticket. Annoying as all heck actually. Probably should contact EA, but they do not have much of a track record for fixing my game so far.

    • yikes! That’s annoying…but i understand your hesitation to contacting EA

    • I had th problem once and couldn’t buy anything in game, it happend to me twice, once after one of the updates a few months ago, then again with a different update, on my iPad Air!
I closed the game, hard shut down my game, turned my iPad off and on, nothing worked..
      Then I did somthing brilliant!
I thought, what if the problem wasn’t the game but the App Store itself not connecting with the game properly!

I went into the App Store, logged out, then in again and I was able to buy stuff in the game again.

Give it a try and let us know if it works. 🙂

      • I will need to look into that. I use a Kindle so I am not sure that I CAN log out of the account, as the Kindle is directly linked to it.

  19. HELP!!!

Started a game many moons ago with an origin ID but wasted lots of free doughnuts so started again playing anonymously. Got all the way to level 42 and spent £ on Lincoln, Washington, Father Sean and more. Lost my phone and didn’t back up with iCloud (D’oh) and now I’m back at the start. Is there any way to restore my game?

    • you’ll have to contact EA. That’s the only way at this point, but i know a while ago they announced they wouldn’t be able to restore many games with out origin ids. But you won’t know unless you try, so contact them and see if they can help you 🙂

  20. Yaaay a extra week to collect doughnuts from friends I’m up to 34. Honestly though the 8 dollar deal is good if you need doughnuts. I personally like the characters that have a lil something extra like witch marge an the repreatable tapable leprachans. I hope they bring witch marge back fingers crossed. T2uL happy tapping

  21. While I like any excuse to see Gil make a visit to my Springfield, these last two Gil deals haven’t exactly been great. I did end up getting the Solid Gold Manson, but at 250 donuts it wasn’t exactly a “deal” as much as it was just a limited time offer and this new deal offers more than usual but it’s still not great. I guess Christmas is the only Gil deal to really look forward to.

  22. EA should stop offering donut deals after events/updates. They might get more buyers if they offer during or right before updates. Probably would have bought this deal 4 days ago when I was getting donuts for yard sale items, but not now. They would have gotten more money from me if they had.

  23. Kimberlyahill794

Just in case anyone wants this info, Target and Dollar General (both USA), have iTunes cards on sale right now, at a 15% discount. Combine that with Gil’s offer and it’s not too shabby!  I’m including links.  I hope it’s helpful!

Personally, I’ve only been playing since June and don’t have many premium items, so I’m going to jump on the deal. I’ll probably also buy some iTunes cards on sale and reserve them for a better sale down the road. 🙂

  24. Hmm, I hardly have any of the buildings! I was a bit sad spending most of the donuts I saved on a couple of the krustyland items with Halloween coming up but I couldn’t resist! On the bright side I’ve won 30 donuts twice now since the KL update in the weekly mystery box… Soooo I’m actually ahead of where I was! Perhaps they deserve a reward from me lol

  25. I rebooted my ipad and the deal was there. I have all the buildings so I am going to pass on this lame deal.

  26. I went ahead and caved on my first Gil deal since I don’t have most of the buildings that are in the mystery box. I ended up with the Museum of National History. I did take advantage of the Amazon Kindle deal and got 5,000 coins for $45 so I am telling myself I got a deal on top of a deal.

  27. Hi Alissa,
Jumping back in to let u know. I now have mystery box EA called me back and said in some games it’s taking awhile for boxes to show up in inventory as it’s very busy today. Mine actually showed up before they called back 🙂 so just letting u know foe a FYI invade it happens to other peps town!

  28. Matthew b Lawler

I’ve been waiting for a Gil donut deal for a while I’ve been sitting on $20 iTunes gift cards and I’m wondering if it’s worth it to pay the extra $15 for the donuts with the mystery box

    • It’s worth it if you don’t have the buildings, or doing mind a Lard Lad or Ferris Wheel. But if you have them all…it’s a pass (at least in my mind)

      • Matthew b Lawler

Since I am mostly freemium and the most I spent donuts on the word is during the Easter event for eggs so I have none of the buildings in the Mystery box but I’m just wondering if there’s going to be an option to buy the Mystery box without the donuts later on

  29. if ea had given this to us at the start of the summer sale I would have bought it,thanks for trying ea better luck next time

  30. Gil the moocher I’m sending him back to Arizona for this lame deal -_-
