BEFORE I get into the details of the Gil deal…let me remind you. If you’re STILL missing donuts. Contact EA. If the first rep doesn’t refund your donuts, try again and get someone else. Be persistent and stay on top of them for it. LOADS of readers have had their donuts refunded to them by contacting EA. If they didn’t succeed the first time they tried again. I know it sucks having your donuts missing, but they can be restored/refunded. You just have to contact EA. Please don’t complain in the comments about missing donuts if you haven’t even tried to get them back from EA. Gil arrived back in Springfield yesterday afternoon, and brought us all a little summer treat! Cause nothing says summer like ice cream and the ice cream man, right?
So the Gil Deal this time around consists of the Ice Cream Truck and Ice Cream Man Homer costume. For 120 donuts both could be yours!
And I know many of your are wondering if this deal is worth your donuts…especially with that clock ticking down. But before you hit that confirm spend button let’s break down all the pros and cons of adding this sweet treat combo to your Springfield….

Premium:
I’m a fan of this one. It offers a nice bonus %, comes with a costume (even though Homer already has a ton) AND unlocks a permanent premium 30 minute task for the youngsters of Springfield. It hits all the marks on the “checklist” of premium items. As a premium player this is one I think is worth picking up.
Freemium:
For freemium players, this one is kind of a toss up. Yes, it hits all the “checklist” items for premium buys…BUT it doesn’t come with a character. Instead it comes with a skin, for Homer. I would say if you don’t currently have a premium skin for Homer this might be one worth picking up for you, but if you already have a bunch you may want to think a bit on this. Honestly it’s a toss up. Not a bad buy, but it’s one of those you can take or leave.
Of course in the end we can’t tell you what to do, we can only tell you what we would/wouldn’t do. And I can tell you as a premium player this is one I’ll be picking up. However, whatever you decide just remember this IS limited-time and will be leaving our games on August 5th. So make sure you make your final decision before the clock runs out!

Contacting EA didn’t get me anywhere when I lost my donuts, but requesting a refund through the Apple store was instant and easy. Just an FYI.
I’m not swayed by the fact that you can build road around it, that would be OK if you want to leave it in one place for a long time……. I move vehicles around very regular

I think that the Ice Cream Truck is a neat addition/skin for Homer.
Unfortunately, I cannot buy this, because I lost around 160 donuts thanks to this mickey-mouse update, and because I now have zero donuts, I refuse to give EA any more of my money or respect until they refund my donuts.
I really want to curse here, but I’m holding my tongue because there are ladies present.
Do you folks know when EA will get around to refunding our lost donuts, or are we just thought of as “collateral damage”, as they grasp for more money?

What does the 30-minute premium task pay? Is it more than the 1-hour non-premium task? I’m wondering if it would make sense to send kids to eat ice cream for 30 minutes when one’s usually doing 1-hour tasks? (Kind of like how I sent Bart to the movies and Ralph to make Sushi for three hours, instead of sending them on their regular 4-hour tasks.)
I’m still sou on the fence with this one….
Like it says in the post, the payout for all the kids is $60 & 15XP.
Which is close to what a Regular Character would get for a 1 Hour task ($70 & 17XP)

I just bought it this morning. Homers costume here kind of reminds me of the good humor man. The other day I won 10 donuts in a mystery box.
I’m pretty sure it will be a pass for me. I do like the truck, but the price seems too high especially since I already have a premium skin for Homer. I also doubt I’d use the half hour tasks for the kids much. I guess you could use it while doing SH grinding, but a fair number of the kids already have SH crafting jobs.

This “build a road under it” trick, I can get it to work with pavement, but doesn’t seem to with the actual “road” as the blog suggests. Am I doing something wrong, or is it a bug/fixed with Android tablets?
Got it to work finally. Was doing something wrong, although for the life of me don’t know what, just know its working now. lol. Haven’t tried myself, but is it possible to use the same trick with the “obstacles” from the last event? I really want to have them so my Obastacles truck is behind them, and both look like they are blocking a road.
I bought it because it was such a happy looking item. I don’t need another Homer skin or quest line but that 4 hour animation is worth it.
Is there a list anywhere of Homer’s costumes and which are premium? 🙂

i sincerely hope you guys get a kickback from EA cause I have to admit that in my mild OCD behavior pattern of learning all I can about something I am involved with (and my love for the show of which I am proud to say a fan of from inception, Ullman included) i have evolved from being a long time freemium player to a premium player….. “after” discovering this site. Keep up the great work folks but you already sold me, I’m all in …. except for Solitaire, they have a daily quiz now 🙂 Thanks guys am a frequent visitor and appreciate the opinions.

I love the Homer Ice Cream Truck, Homer in his Uniform and those 2 little ones that r “hounding him!! Lots of cute little jobs, only in “Homer ville”! And, I got 550 donuts re-imbersed for the Don’t Caper era in Springfield Heights!! EA reps were very good to me and Appreciate them!!
This isn’t a good deal. You can get a full character and building for the same or less price.
Hence why pricey is on the Cons list. And I say over and over how many costumes does homer need.
But the fact that it’s a premium combo and opens up a task for kids that’s premium (plus the 3.75% Bonus is nice) makes it a better deal than most imo.
Not sure about this one, it’s a fun deco but I already have a few premium skins for Homer. Also for me the 30min task for youngsters isn’t that much of a plus point.
It’s better value than some of the Springfield Heights limited time buildings so still thinking about whether to get it, otherwise I might buy the Burns Limo and the Quimborghini (90 donuts for a 4.25% bonus).
yup, 30 minutes is way too short. i think sandra is the only one that sets 30 min tasks… 😉
i got both the burns limo and the quimborghini, and love them both. so that’s where my vote would go, despite the limited timeliness of the ice cream truck.
on another note, did anyone else notice how freddy quimby’s 10 hr task to hide in the trunk of his ex’s quimborghini hasn’t been premium for a little while now? it used to be, and should be since it includes a premium item… what gives?
Lol – not frequently! But if, say, I’m planning to stop playing at 9pm and my characters finish their tasks at 8:15, I might try and squeeze in a 30-minute task that will be quick and easy to collect from, because they’re all in the same place.
Are those kids part of the animation?

Just checked in my B game (and yes I spent 120 donuts just for you) and the task appeared once I bought and placed the ice cream truck.

I recently contact EA during the Tap Ball event. Tried to buy the gold stadium set but just lost donuts. Contacted EA and they restored the donuts for two of the three attempted purchases and unlocked the set.
Ime Cream truck was part of my payday Premium Splurge, I’ve only been playing a few weeks but a nice £60 spend on donuts and I’ve got some awesome Premium characters and buildings. I’m addicted to this !

Damn, I was tempted by the idea of an ice cream truck but figured since an ice cream truck belongs on the road in front of someone’s house, I could easily find the resolve to pass on this. Now that I know that it can be placed on the road, I think I’m about to get separated from some of my donuts

It works for the last car released two levels ago, Mr. Somebody’s car. I can’t think of the name. But it’s on my road in front of the house from that level. Gosh. That’s pathetically bad info, but I’m so exhausted, it’s the best I can do right now…

Definitely tempted by this one…would be great outside my tap ball stadium and love the idea that it gives all the youngsters that 30-minute task. I only have one premium costume for Homer, and I do get tired of Stonecuttering him every day. I just wish this came at a different time, because Homer’s too busy making furniture right now to sell ice cream, except overnight, but Plopper needs his tummy rubs!
I just got the 30-donut Mystery Box (woo hoo!), but I’ve also been eyeing some other stuff and I haven’t even placed a couple of the premium items I got at the last Gil’s sale (might finally start Kamp Krusty this weekend!).
I really hope there isn’t a new level, or (god forbid) event, any time soon!

Same here! Already have Stonecutter Homer and Plopper so… I don’t really use 30 minute tasks, more 1 or 2 hours.
There shouldn’t be another event for at least a month.
Totally think a new event is coming. The 4th is going to have new stuff for SH for sure… So that week is out. Then there’s a three week gap for new content on SH. So I would expect something the week (most likely the Wednesday) after the fourth. But I got the truck!! Come visit me and see, I haven’t found a proper spot for it. It’s in front of my Krusty Burger and Kwik E Mart.
I just leveled up and got my donuts bonus. That tends to be the precursor for a new Level being introduced.
August is here and a New Event will most probably occur for Halloween in mid October. So, a Level Up will probably occur somewhere between here and then – but My-oh-my, I do wish for a break where I can build my cash reserves. Time to leave Springfield Heights and concentrate on $$$$$.

On second thought, I wouldn’t mind the Homer as Krusty (if they made that skin since he portrayed Krusty in an episode) Or Homer as Radioactive Man, although I think that is less likely since we already have Radioactive Man, and could be wrong but think he only portrayed that character in the comic?

I don’t think homer was ever radioactive man in the show. However I wouldn’t mind an RM costume for Ranier Wolfcastle.
Love the look of it and his outdoor tasks are great. I’ve gotten to the point where I almost want to see how many skins Homer can get, the list is Infinite.
