Tiny Addict Baby Pool (New Contest Alert)

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

As most of you know my husband and I are expecting our first child VERY soon (you can see the announcement about it here)…and way back when we announced that I was pregnant we promised you guys that we’d do a fun baby pool contest.  Well the time has come!  I’m about 3 weeks out from my due date so let’s see what you guys think the Tiny Addict will be!

Maggie & Bobo

This contest will be a little different than our usual ones, in that this one won’t be random.  Instead you guys will earn points based on what you guess.  The reader with the highest points is our big winner!  But everyone in the top 5 will win a prize! We’ll go over the points, prizes and rules below the fold…

And yes this contest is open to EVERYONE…even if you’re not in the US

Here’s the entry form…good luck!

If you’re having trouble viewing the form on the site, here’s the direct link for it.

Now let’s talk about how you win, what you can win & the official rules of winning…

Be sure to read all the info below as I’ll go over some “clues/tips” that may help you guess better towards the end of this post…

Some Clues/Tips

Since you guys don’t get to see me on a regular basis I figured I’d give you some clues/tips to help you make your predictions.  If you see something not listed here and would like to ask a specific question (no I won’t answer the “is it a boy or a girl” question) feel free to do so in the comments.  I’ll try to be as open about answering them as possible…please be respectful and don’t get too carried away with the “old wives tales”.

-My current due date is November 9th.  However, my original due date was October 27th.  They pushed me back around week 12 and haven’t moved me since.  However, at our last 2 ultrasounds the baby was measuring 1-2 weeks ahead of the Nov. 9th date, depending on the part the measured (Head was 1 week, abdomen was 2 weeks, femur was just a couple of days).

-At last Ultrasound (which was this past Wednesday) they told me the baby was just over 6lbs.  However, those measurements have been known to be off by a pound (over or under).

-My husband and I were both born with blonde hair, both of us now have light to medium brown hair.

-My husband and I were both born with blue eyes.  His eyes are still blue, mine like to change between blue-gray-green…depending on the day.

-I was in the 6lb range when I as born.  My husband was over 8lbs.

-The doctor has told us that we’re in the lowest possible risk of needing a c-section because of the baby’s size.

-No weird/strange cravings after the first trimester.  During the first trimester I wanted vinegar and steak.  Oh and pickles.  I couldn’t eat melted cheese (like pizza cheese) or sweet stuff.  Now I eat what I usually eat.  Nothing really out there for me.

I think that about covers all of those basics.  Hopefully that helps you guys come up with some good guesses!

And that’s it my friends.  Good luck!

  1. Hey, congratulations! I’m a newish reader so I didn’t know! Wishing you a smooth, incident-free delivery. I was so excited to participate in the pool that I submitted my entry before I read any of your handy-dandy hints. Babies are awesome. Best of luck!

  2. If I remember my genetics classes correctly, both blue eyes and blonde hair are recessive genes, so not much chance for other colours there. Gender is always guesswork as long as we don’t get to see the ultrasounds – as far as I know, all the supposed markers (carrying high or whatnot) are not statistically relevant. And Germany has been metric for ever, so I don’t really know height and weight in inches and pounds. I just put something a bit below average (yes, I can’t be bothered to convert either 😉 ). Also wishing for a Halloween baby, and as babys are more likely to be born at night – if not induced – I put down very early morning.

Nothing left but to wish you a successful birth 🙂

    • lol at least someone picked up on the genetics clues 😉

And we’re just hoping this baby comes soon…I’m tired of being pregnant lol.

Thanks for the well wishes! 🙂

  3. Best of luck to you for a quick and safe delivery. I hope you aren’t way past your due date. A friend of mine is also expecting but right now she is six days past her due date. She (and her husband and son) are miserable right now.

  4. I don’t think I’ll enter as I don’t have a clue, ….

but it’s nice to read all the good wishes and love being sent to you Alissa, from around the world and of course I’d like to add my own love and best wishes to you for an easy time, and a healthy baby

    virtual flowers💐
virtual present🎁 (a real expensive one)
    virtual cake 🎂

    🍼 🍼 🍼 👶 👶 👶 🚼 🚼 🚼 ☺

  5. Gosh I’m so excited for you and your husband, Alissa! I pray you have a smooth and quick delivery💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

  6. With the info you’ve given us I’m thinking it will be unlikely you’ll go past your due date but hypothetically if you did, how long before they’d induce you? Here in Canada (ontario at least) they let you go max 1 week overdue. Any protocols there?

    • In the US it’s 42 weeks usually. But 42 weeks for me is the week of US Thanksgiving so I have a feeling they induce at 41, or somewhere in there if need be.

    • Queen – Take it from a woman who has been two full weeks overdue with 3 pregnancies…..in Ontario you can go further than one week 🙂 It really has to do with ultrasound and condition of your amniotic fluid, etc.

  7. Other than weight (she was smallish) and length (was longish) used my soon to be 19 yo(where those years went i know not) wee Maggot Moo Mare.
All the best, hope you labour is as easy as mine was (didn’t know i was having full blown contractions for 6 hours), but delivery easier……..don’t ask………:0/ and that a healthy, wee poop machine brings you lots of happiness and few sleepless nights

  8. Since I’m kinda hoping you’ll have a girl, I bet on boy, so I can be happy either way! (Of course, I’ll be happy with either gender, as long as it’s healthy!)

I also bet you’d go into labor on Halloween, but not give birth until after midnight, so, a Nov. 1 birth date.

Selfishly, I hope I’m wrong and you won’t go into labor until late next year, because I don’t want you to go away!! 😉 But I suspect they don’t let women walk around pregnant for 20+ months…(at a certain point, I think most woman would just reach up in there and yank it out themselves! 😉 ).

    • Lol well Nov 2nd is our anniversary so secretly we’re both hoping for that. Just think it’d be pretty cool lol

      • Again, Congratulations! I am very glad that all is going well and you are delivering soon. I do not always post but thought this was a special occasion. Thank you again for being a part of such an AWESOMELY helpful site, you have truly helped me, more so than EA has at most times. . I know this is not the proper place to ask this question, but I could not find the open forum for some odd reason. SO, I was wondering if, and when, we may have a chance to get Boobarella? I know it was from a previous Halloween event but was hoping, with fingers crossed, that I may be able to get her sometime, if again or at all. I thought she came with the House of Evil as I did not start playing until around Christmas last year. The way my luck works she was a one time only deal. I know I am still a newbie at level 58, with almost a year playing, but I am curious and hopeful. I am sorry for asking this on this particular page, but for some odd reason I could not get the other links to other pages to work. I wonder if it is just me or if there is some problem going around concerning access to your site. . I appreciate all that y’all do here, you guys ROCK! And i thank you. Good luck with the next couple weeks, I pray, Yes I pray and love The Simpsons, that all goes well with your last weeks and the birthing. I think it will be a girl, but you knew that from my entry form. Take care and much love.

      • I thought the same as you sandra. But when I went to click on the 1st I changed my mind to the 2nd as it’s my other half’s birthday.

Either way I hope all goes well. I can’t believe how quickly time has passed since the announcement.

      • not to mention an easy date to remember, for both celebrations 😀

      • I actually happened to have been born on my parents 7th Anniversary. I have always felt bad about taking over their day for so long. When I got older I made sure that it was about them for once and my birthday second.

        • Interesting take. We just thought it would be cool, especially since we don’t make too big of a deal out of our anniversary. And to us what better way to celebrate your marriage? 🙂

      • Congrats! And I hope all goes well. I had to comment here & of course a healthy baby is an amazing thing on any date!! But if they start talking induction my humble opinion is try NOT to use your anniversary. An occasional date night is soooo important for parents & it’s a bit of a bummer to not be able to have a date night on your actual anniversary.

  9. Well I just think this is all fabulous! I wish you and your hubby the best of luck in the miracle of birth ♡

…fingers crossed for all involved…love you addicts ☆

  10. Time to sit back and relax Alissa, sending lots good vibes to you, hubby and the bump. I’d promise we Addicts will keep Bunny under control but you know she would run rings around us, isn’t that right Auntie Bunny.

  11. Ooh, I saw your hints after I posted my entry haha. I think I’ll be way off! ^_^

But that’s not important! Congratulations again Alissa!

  12. Would have been useful to have read all this info before I made my guesses lol

  13. awesome!! and congrats, this pool is almost like my friend’s baby shower when I was living in Australia, she is also from Mexico and the rest of her friends and family are living in Mexico, she decided to have a virtual baby shower with a secret fb group, she wrote some questions and points based. I think is a wonderful idea specially when you have friends/family everywhere.

All the best for you and for the baby.

  14. wildthornberry88

Entered woo! Sending you lots of luck and best wishes 🙂 P.S. i don’t know if I wrote it, but my estimated time is for the a.m. same as my birth lol!

  15. Most Caucasian babies are born with blue eyes. Pigment develops in the first year. POC are usually born with dark eyes that stay dark. Key words being most and usually.

  16. Congrats. May you have a healthy baby and smooth delivery (and fast). How are you going to judge eye colour? I know babies are born with blue eyes because they have some kind of film over their eyes. My middle daughter was born with bluish grayish eyes and they turned into pure brown! My oldest daughter and my youngest daughter both had blue eyes. I was just curios because a baby’s eyes are hard to tell at first. But a huge congrats to you and your husband! Cherish it all because it goes fast! Miss my children when they were babies.

    • Depends. Might be a little bit after before we announce the winner. But I can tell you my nephews and nieces with dark eyes came out with dark eyes. The ones with blue eyes came out with light gray to blue.

  17. I predict a happy healthy baby…..and I’m sure that will be the winning entry. 😉 Tell the little one happy birthday from me when she(?) finally comes.

  18. I began filling out the form but stopped when I got to length and weight because I can’t be bothered to try to convert the numbers I’m used to. I’m sure you know that by not allowing metric measurements you are excluding most of the world, don’t you? There are only 3 countries (of approximately 195 in the world) where metric is not standard, and only one of them is in the industrialized world (that’s U.S.). About 95% of the world’s population live in countries where metric measurements is standard. Anyway, best of luck with your baby Alissa 🙂

    • Yes but I’m 9 months pregnant and the last thing I’m gonna wanna do after giving birth is try to figure out converting metric to us. So I figured you guys could give me a break without much of a fight 😉

      • I wasn’t trying to pick a fight, sorry if I made it sound that way. What I was thinking was that there might be some conversion software or addon you could use, maybe it’s even possible to make a script for the form that would convert everything automagically for you. Anyway, the contest doesn’t matter that much to me (if it had I would have taken the time to convert myself). Again, best of luck to you, your baby and the rest of your family 🙂

        • Oh i didn’t think you were trying to pick a fight…i was just explaining why i said measurements in US. Often times I’d do the conversion for you guys but I just know with a newborn the last thing I’m gonna wanna do is think about that.

      • Yeah I fully understand your decision in setting it up the way you did so no worries there. I just wanted to express my feelings about it, I guess it turned out a bit more crude than I intended. Sorry again about that 🙂

    • funny how you couldn’t be bothered to do a simple conversion on google, but you COULD be bothered to take the time to rant about a measurement standard on a baby pool post. it will be an american baby, born in the United States of America to american parents, one of which is the owner of a blog dedicated to an american animated sitcom. deal with it son.

      • You are very correct that it is an american baby, born in the US by american parents. The contest however is open worldwide, on a blog directed to anyone interested anywhere in the world. The blog is about a game that is availiable all over the world and that game is based on a show that (to my knowledge) is also availiable all over the world.

        • I think you missed the point….Alissa’s over 8 months pregnant and, even if she weren’t, she does this blog (with Bunny and Wookiee) for FREE (at some expense to them) while balancing a work and family, so, if she doesn’t feel like doing the conversions that’s her prerogative and you should embrace the opportunity to help her out!

  19. I was told that your first baby is usually late, but mine came 11 days early, so pack your bag now. As we were newbies, my water broke (I had worked earlier that day) and we rushed around to get to the hospital. Things usually don’t happen that fast, so take your time. My husband said that his mom went grocery shopping before heading to the hospital (7 kids and my husband is the youngest). So excited for you and best wishes for a healthy delivery for both of you (oh yeah, hubby, too). ⌛️

  20. Best of luck Alissa hope you have a quick easy labour

  21. Y’know, I just realized, I REALLY don’t think you needed to include anything past 2016 for the due date lol if its 2065 you’ll be in the record books 😀

  22. Can’t wait to find out!

My husband and I have a 3 year old little boy and our little girl is due towards the end of November. Thankfully we are well past 32 weeks which is when my son was born. ☺️

  23. I had my guess, good luck, hope all goes well, wishing you + baby happiness&health (and The Simpsons)

  24. I wish we could have answered in kg and cm because I think I put in some weird weights and lengths that don’t even exist :-p

    • Lol sorry. Normally I’d convert for you but I’m just too tired and know once I actually do the results it’ll just get confused lol

    • At times like this, Google is your friend (e.g., “35 cm in inches”)

      • That would be 14″ Sandra …. without Google ….

If anyone is the same age as me, in England they only taught us in metric ready for joining common market in mid seventies (now European Union) but continued using imperial weights and measures in shops for many years …I used to think we weren’t educated properly but you become self taught and I don’t have a problem with pounds/kilograms or inches/centimetres or gallons/litres

Sorry to bore everyone but it’s not often I know the answer to a maths question 📏 📐

        🎃 ☺

        • Yeah, my husband knows how to do most conversions, too. I don’t know the exact formulas offhand, but I do have some sense for it, since our rulers amost all have both measurements in them and I know that a meter is similar to a yard (right?) and that a kilometer is roughly half as long as a mile and that the two-liter soda bottles that we have now, replaced the 64-ounce ones we used to have.

  25. Oh Alissa, so nice of you to share this happiness with us! Fingers crossed!

  26. Old Wives Tale Question – are you “carrying” high or low?
Old Ranchers Question – does it have 5 legs?
Coworker once commented on all the Bulls that were in a field. Why did my coworker call them “Bulls”? Because they all had horns.

I explained that horns did not make it a bull, rather it was the fifth leg.

Of course I believe it was Mark Twain(?) who opined:
How many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg? Four, because calling a tail a leg doesn’t make it one.
Know I fouled up the quote, but what the heck, tails, legs, etc.
    😇

  27. Exciting!

Lots of good thoughts for a safe, healthy birth for both mama and baby.

  28. I didn’t know they measured the baby’s length in America (they only measure its weight in the United Kingdom).

And a word of warning: the baby’s unlikely to be born on the due date. I came 15 days after it and my sister came 10 days later.

    • After her due date. (That could have caused confusion, as she’s four years younger than me.)

    • Lol well on my side we’re all early or on time. But only for births after that we’re always late lol

    • My 2 girls had their lengths measured in UK, but was told they no longer do it at HV visits as there had been complications when I used to take eldest, maybe youngest got measured as she was emergency c secrion and premature.
Btw wish I had read clues before answering, then again, what ‘ rents were doesn’t always count.

  29. Some say the amount of heartburn equals the amount/color of hair… So, any heartburn? 🙂

    • Lots of heartburn. But not as much now as early days. Now it’s only if I eat trigger foods…which of course I do because who doesn’t love peppers and onions on their pizza? Lol

  30. What are the genders of your siblings and your husband’s siblings?

And I’ve seen your height responses, but what kind of body frame (bones) do you have – small, medium, or large? (Lol – Swype wrote “small” as “snail”… I’m assuming you’re not shaped like a snail!! 🐌🐌🐌🐌)

This is getting exciting… As long as your labor isn’t this terrible and the baby is healthy, I don’t even care if I rank last in this contest! (Okay, well, it *would* be nice to win, but I’d happily trade any of those prizes for a shorter labor for you and no complications for baby!)

    • I’m one of 4 girls (but my nieces and nephews are 3 boys and 3 girls..not that you asked but figured it was relevant lol) and he’s got 1 brother and 1 sister.
I would say my hubby has large solid bones. And I’m more small to medium.
But here’s some more unasked info lol…all of our nieces and nephews have been under 8lbs. Most in the high 6 to low 7. and I’ve been very worried because of hubby’s size (broad shoulders big head) but every ultrasound they’ve said the baby takey after me more in the head and shoulders size

      🙂

      • Not to help my competitors here ;), but they say that the size of a newborn had much more to do with the size of the mom than the dad (baby can always play catch-up once it’s on its own). Some people say that God didn’t give you more than you can handle; in this respect, I’d say the same is usually true for nature and babies in utero.

      • Haha my hubby, 6 ft 3 built like the proverbial out building, me 5ft and a flag packet, petite, kids, 5lb 12oz, +4 days 3lb1oz -4weeks (had been bigger, getting too much adrenaline, took 3month to grow into her skin lol
