Are you enjoying the update so far? Did you use donuts to rush the Rosebush on Cletus’s Farm? Are you ready to throw your device if you get another Bart Screen? Bunny, Wookiee and I are working hard to bring you all of the details of the update, answer your questions in the comments AND work on implementing some changes to the site behind the scenes with our new dedicated server. (YES…we get so much traffic at Addicts we had to go to our own private server dedicated just for TSTO Addicts! Very cool…but also very stressful!)
Anywho I thought I’d take a little break from the site changes and my own Bart screen’s to give you a run down on the new Valentine’s Day Currency….Hearts, Hearts and more Hearts! So let’s get to it shall we?
For those of you that were around for Whacking Day (oh those snakes!), Halloween (GOO, GOO and GOO) and Christmas (oh those dreaded Gift Cards!) you should be familiar with the process of visiting neighbors to collect the Event Currency. Valentine’s day is pretty similar to all of those other events in that you collect the in game currency to earn prizes. You can earn more currency by visiting neighbors and having neighbors visit you….thus Neigbhor-eenos is a good thing! (and the social element of TSTO..and the importance of the TSTOAddicts Community!)
The difference between Whacking Day, Halloween & Christmas compared to Valentine’s Day is that this time there are no magic numbers of currency to collect to earn each price. Instead the collected hearts earn you spins on the Wheel of Friendship (more on this later) and it’s through the wheel that you earn new prizes. Making sense so far?
So let’s take a look at the finer details of the Valentine’s Day Event:
So here’s the basics.
-You collect hearts by visiting friends and sending them Valentine’s, you earn hearts back when your friends visit you (you’ll earn 2 hearts for every Valentine your friend’s send you. Regardless of how many they earned while sending it). You also earn hearts by completing parts of the main questline (Cards are Read, Marge’s Hair is Blue) and various other special tasks for your characters that earn you hearts. You’ll also earn hearts (and Rosebush’s) by growing Rosebush’s at Cletus’s Farm.
-Every 200 hearts collected you earn 1 spin token.
-You use the spin token to spin the wheel and unlock special Valentine’s Day prizes (more on these later).
-Once you’ve cleared the wheel of special Valentine’s Day prizes you’ll unlock a special prize for Krustyland (the Tunnel of Love).
Sounds simple enough right? To get started you MUST complete the first task of Cards are Read, Marge’s Hair is Blue and that’s to grow a Rosebush on Cletus’s farm. It costs $1,000 and takes 24hrs.
Note: IF you are growing corn (I was) if you start the task and click the “Do It” button on growing the Rosebush….your corn will go crazy and grow super fast. It will complete the growing process and you’ll earn the full xp and cash for the corn. This means you don’t have to lose the progress you’ve made on growing the corn to start Valentine’s Day. You’ll still earn the XP and Cash you would have earned for growing the corn. :)
TIP: IF you have Witch Marge skin from Halloween, you can use her to Speed Up the Crop. Each time you run that job for her the time on the Moonshine will reduce by 4 hrs (well 8hrs really because it takes 4hrs to run the job)
Once you’ve completed the Rosebush you’ll earn enough hearts to spin the wheel for the first time (see this post for more quest details). At this point you will unlock the Valentine’s Day content in your game and the ability to send and receive Valentines from your neighbors! 
You’ll also be tasked with sending 3 Valentines to neighbors:
So how do you send Valentines?
It’s simple. When visiting your neighbors you’ll see a Be Mine card above their characters. Simply tap on the character to collect hearts (just like buildings you can tap on 3 cards per neighbor, per day):
Now here’s where it gets interesting. You’ll notice in the bottom left corner when visiting your neigbors…just below YOUR heart count….a number next to a heart that says ___ hearts for your next 30 actions (this number gets lower as you tap on characters). This is something different in TSTO. You earn 15 hearts per neighbor for the first 10 neighbors you visit. This number then drops to 12 hearts per neighbor for the next 10 neighbors, than 9 and so on. (assuming you tap on 3 characters per neighbor). Looks like EA is limiting the number of hearts you can earn from neighbors this go round. Here’s that break down:-
-5 hearts per character tapped for the first 30 characters tapped (works out to 15 hearts per neighbor for the first 10 neighbors)
-4 hearts per character tapped for the next 30 characters tapped (works out to 12 hearts per neighbor for neighbors 11-20)
-3 hearts per character tapped for the next 30 characters tapped (works out to 9 hearts per neighbor for neighbors 21-30)
-2 hearts per character tapped for the next 30 characters tapped (works out to 6 hearts per neighbor for neighbors 31-40)
-then it’s 1 heart per character tapped after that.
Resets each day.
When you return back to your Springfield you’ll also notice Be Mine Cards above YOUR characters. Those are cards left to you from your Neighbors. Tap on them to earn more hearts! You’ll earn 2 hearts per card sent to you by a neighbor, regardless of how many they earned when sending it.
So Tappers…that’s the basics of the new currency in TSTO. Much easier to earn chances to spin (only 200 hearts) BUT they do limit how many hearts you can earn from neighbors. But I think all in all it’s a fair trade off!
Now hurry and get to breaking some hearts…the event ends February 25th!

Ok, maybe I’m dumb or just not reading this right, but do I receive the same amount of hearts as the neighbor that leaves it? In other words: if my friends is in their 2nd stage and getting 4 hearts per tap, is that what I will get if they visit me? If so I’m gonna have to prioritize which friends I visit first everyday
Nope you’ll get back 2 hearts for every card your neighbor sends you (regardless of how many they earned when placing it). It’s a bit confusing in the post so I’m working on editing it now to make it a bit more clear. 🙂
I don’t *think* this question has been covered in the thread yet: Do characters have to be outdoors and idle in order to give them a card (i.e. harvest hearts from them)? or can you get hearts from characters that are engaged in outdoor tasks?
Is it best for the event for everyone to take a break from their normal Springfieldian routines?
I just tested this between my A game and B game. I had the Rich Texan riding the bull and Miss. Springfield Working it. And yes, they both had Be Mine’s over their head when I went into the B game. I also noticed in my Springfield a neighbor tapped Ned while he was singing, so he had a heart over him. In addition I had Disco Stu at Church and there was a Be Mine floating over church as well. So I think you’re safe to play as normal.
I saw a withered crop at a neighbor’s and it was tappable. Exception?
Quite possibly. Act of kindness?
When I go visiting my neighbors, the number of “Be Mine”s available seems to vary. In some towns there are characters wandering about without a Be Mine over their heads.
Does this mean, there is a regeneration time for tapping on people, similar to the buildings? And if yes, what is ist?
Yes, there is a regeneration time. But it has more to do with when your neighbor clears the cards they were awarded. Because whatever character you tap on earns them hearts as well, they’ll need to go into their game to tap on that card before that character can earn another card. So in a sense there is no “double stacking” with cards, like tiles. 🙂
Okay so I finally finished growing my rose bush but when I went to visit neighbors it was only giving me 1 heart per character tapped and also apparently I can only tap characters now and not buildings
Yes, only characters right now. That’s how you earn the hearts (and cash). It may only show 1 heart but when you tap on the heart it will show the value differently. 5 hearts (written) should appear (and add to your total) when you tap on the 1 heart (assuming you’re still in the 5 heart range…characters 1-30). 🙂
It started off saying 1 heart for your next 110 actions at the bottom of my heart meter
Hmm if you didn’t Tap any neighbors yet (in the last 24hrs) this could be just an issue that can be cleared by backing out of your game and hard closing it, then restart it. If that doesn’t work I would suggest contacting EA
Well all my neighbors are on different schedules so I tapping neighbors through out the day but seeing as I just unlocked the hearts why should I be penalized for visiting my neighbors prior to unlocking the wheel?
I agree with you on that. But the good news is you’ll regenerate the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 scale again in 24hrs. 🙂 (or whenever 24hrs from the neighbor’s you tapped on is up)
Hi—-please explain, is that lower number in the neighbor screen(hearts per next actions) arbitrarily assigned by EA or does that come out of my hearts earned( rose bushes, Ned singing, donut purchase) cache? I have just been giving cards to neighbors, sould I ration them if I can’t buy or task or grow to replace? Also after the event started that seemed all I could do in other SFs, give valentines—Tiles, channel 6 were no longer accessible to tap, just characters w/cards, so I did them. Have I missed something? Thanks for your time.
It’s only from tapping your neighbors. It’s not taken out of your hearts earned, it’s the same for everyone no matter how many they have in their “heart bank”. Basically it’s just EA’s way of making it just a little bit more difficult to earn hearts for clear the wheel. No need to ration them, you’ll still earn the same hearts (on that sliding scale) from your neighbors each day.
As far as the tiles, channel 6, etc. they’re temporarily suspended during the event in the effort to have your neighbors tap your characters for hearts. You’ll noticing buildings also can’t be tapped on. 🙂

Did they fix the glitch for the corn, news, and tiles? Doesn’t seem to be working anymore?
Temporarily suspended during the event. This is so that your neighbors will tap your characters to help you earn hearts. You’ll notice when you visit a neighbor you can only tap on characters at this point and not on buildings etc. 🙂
So we need to keep our townsfolk on outdoor tasks?
Also do we still tap buildings or is this disabled.
This looks a good update so far.
Outdoor tasks would be helpful to your neighbors (and help you earn more hearts). And yes, buildings are temporarily disabled during valentine’s day 🙂
Seems pretty ridiculous that we can’t visit all of our friends to get valentines. The people at the end of the list (that we can’t control the order of) are just gonna get screwed. I’m having stereotypical Canadian guilt over this!
They won’t get screwed, they’ll still earn hearts. It’s like with the giftbags at Christmas. I never had enough to hit all of my neighbor’s so I switched it up every now and then and worked from the last neighbor to the first and from the first to the last 🙂
I must be misunderstanding the explanation in the article (or miscalculating) – if there is a decreasing amount of hearts awarded through the first 40 towns you visit, then wouldn’t you be able to get 180 hearts for the remaining 60 towns? Is there also a limit on the number of characters that will reward a single heart?
I think it’s more an issue of neighbor’s earning 5 hearts at the end of their list vs. 1 heart. But that’s something I still need to test between my A game and B game, if you earn less if someone taps on you with less than 5 hearts or if you earn 5 hearts for each card a neighbor sends you.
But yes remaining towns earn 1 heart (next 180 actions).
It is probably a good idea to have your Springfielders doing outside tasks. I just visited a neighboureeno and only one character had a card to tap. Do you know how long the cards take to regenerate yet?
You can tap on your friends towns once every 24 hrs. Is that what you are asking?

With this new update it is wanting me to restart the game. Can someone help please? I’m on level 36.
Can you be a bit more specific? What is the exact message you are getting? I only ask due to we have many troubleshooting posts to help you with the issue at hand. Let us know. 🙂
About 15 minutes before the update I logged on and collected my points and set tasks for my characters. My phone then did an automatic update. When logging back on the game starts up with Homer in the plant as it is about to blow up. (Like in the start of the game) it went through the clip and my town went back to homer alone on empty grass.
I was on level 36, I had corn growing, the spinner sisters on a task along with all my other characters. I had just bought a land expansion and i was building two different buildings.
This has me very upset!
Ok…makes sense. You are experiencing a typical glitch ( I know…I said typical and you are FREAKING out…it’s ok, here to help 😉 )

I can’t load my neighbours list…god.damn.it anyone else with this problem??? Solutions??
There are a bunch of glitches all around. Sorry. New update hiccups. It is too difficult to know exactly what will happen until they launch it. Then they work quickly to try and launch patches to correct the issues that arise. Hang in there. From time to time my neighbor names just disappear on my friends list. I just restart my device or give it a lil bit and they return.
I still can’t update! Click okay and nothing happens! Same Springfield! Ugh!
Not updating from your app market? The update should be in the device market you are using (Apple/Google Play).
I have a v day question but want to give background first.
I downloaded on ipad during lunch and got in without issue. At lunchtime, a wheel spin was for 40 hearts (yes, 40)! I started visiting friends and racked up several spins which I quickly used. Had to stop to go back to work.
Came home after work, opened the game and it started downloading the update again. *Great, just what I wanted*
I have all the valentines items from the wheel and I’ve lost no previous purchases; however, it’s restarted the blue-haired lawyer and the blimp tasks. If you were me, would you contact EA or just go through already completed tasks and new tasks simultaneously?
It is completely up to you. I always like to contact EA because they reward my with “sweet treats” for my troubles. Not many, but hey. 😉
That or you can wait to see if the issue resolves itself and you go back to normal.

I got a notification saying someone sent me a valentine card, yet when I went on I didn’t see anything.
CHances are that neighbor rushed their roses. You won’t be able to get cards until you have grown yours.

According to some tappers I trust, it won’t work. You’ll just end up delaying/possibly missing the event.
is the corn thing a glitch?
My theory is EA knew some folks would have crops already planted and wanted to be generous. It’s only a 3 week event so a 90 days crop would be horrible. Proves they put some thought into this event.
Nope. I tried with tomacco after the dialog, and when you click on the rosebush task it shows the time left until the crop is completed. (Should have picked perfection!) Of course now Bart is stopping me again!

I finally got back in…then kicked again. No worries, I got the files to keep me very occupied. I will hop back in after a bit and play some more. 😉
A case of me knowing exactly what I mean but haven’t described it well. Annoys my Hubby no end
Here goes I had 3 cards to collect in my neighboureeno but only 1 character had a card to tap. I tapped. All good. But two taps left and no more cards. I am assuming that others had been before me and tapped all the cards and that they must regenerate after a period of time.
There is a possibility of that or that the other available characters to tap are on tasks so cant be tapped upon. You still have a full 24hrs to get the rest before the town will regenerate. Just give it a try tomorrow. 😉
I just got into my game after 3-4 hours. I went to plant my valentines roses and it harvested my corn (I had 60 days left) so for all the waiting, I’m instantly a happy bunny (bunny wannabe) again 🙂

also if you have your 100 friends you won’t be able to collect hearts from all of them. you can only collect a limited amount. not sure what it was but I had a pop up that said you collected the maximum amount for the day and can only collect xp and $. I still had friends left to visit.
You guys may not know the answer but if I un update Tapped Out so I can harvest corn then update it again so I get 45000 for corn will my origin account lose all it’s data or will something go corrupt?
I would say you can try…but there is not really any way to know without trying. You may risk losing that in game cash.

I would say you got hit by the rollback glitch. Try basic troubleshooting and if no luck, contact EA.

I sped up my roses, then sped up the next 2 lot, progressed in quest and won a few things on the wheel then my game stopped working. That was at 19:30 & I still can’t get into the game. I play on iPhone & android tablet, neither work. What’s going on? My friend on android got back into his town an hour ago, so why can’t I? Any idea when this issue will be fixed???? Sooooooo frustrating that a game I have spent over £200 on for donuts has this many glitches ALL THE TIME. Shame on EA!
Give it some time. The servers are on overload right now. There is a mass amount of users WORLDWIDE trying to access the site right now. I have been in n out all day too.

I’m the same. I keep clicking retry with no luck. It’s a good time to practise my deep breathing. I don’t understand why it’s working occasionally for some people and not at all for others?
