Diary of a Wookiee: Stonecutter Downtime Valentine Edition

Hey hey hey Addictereenos! How’s life?

So… in the midst of this downtime period for EA, I figured I’d pop in with my two cents. Gonna ramble about Stonecutters, EA downtime and my thoughts on the Valentine’s Update. Nothing game specific but figured I’d chime in with some thoughts if you were interested. If not, just smile and wave boys, smile and wave.

Stonecutters

singstonecuttertableBoy has this sale brought out some ire in all my favorite tappers. I will admit I was hoping for Valentine’s last week too but I don’t hate this sale and here’s why. In the past, when cool things were in the game, tappers who missed items had to wait a long time or never to get the things in game. Yes, the items are higher priced than I’d like and yes I know some folks already had items, but I like to see the items brought back. Stonecutters is considered by a lot of people to be one of the best events ever. I loved all the items and am glad newer players at least have the chance to consider them.

As far as pricing, when things come back they are expensive. It’s really nothing new so ultimately it’s up to tappers whether the price fits their budget/desire. If I didn’t have things, I must admit I’d probably get the Stonecutters Lodge, Daycare and table. I’d even probably splurge on the Abandoned Store. Probably pass on the others but the free skins in each wave are a big bonus for new players. Frankly, I’m just happy to see the hieroglyph walls come back for the design opportunities. “Homer the Great” is one of my favorite episodes so having items from it makes me and my Springfield happy.

Let’s just chalk this up as a good chance for noobs to get stuff, huh?

Downtime

Oogle Simpsons

TSTO is a town design game with the added bonus of The Simpsons. The joy I find in this game comes from creating my very own Springfield. I put lots and lots (sometimes too much) thought into where I put everything and how it makes sense. Downtime for this fuzzball is the best. During events, it’s hard to tweak all my little items so any lull makes the inner-designer in me super happy. Sure it’s nice to have quests and dialogue boxes to read but take the time and start designing. I honestly considered another complete nuclear overhaul of Wookieetown this week but alas, down time also equals more study time for this college kid. I’d challenge you to design that one area you’ve really been meaning to. The next event (whatever it is) will come and then you may wish you’d taken my advice.

Another bonus of downtime is earning that game cash. When neighbors aren’t visiting as much, you can clear your buildings and make your bank account a bit more healthy. We all know we’ll want more cash when the next big items come along. Send your characters on the task which fits with your life and earn those greenbacks. Did I mention if you don’t want the new premium stuff, your real life bank account remains healthy too?

Honestly, having a bit more time away from the game isn’t a completely bad thing either. Maybe make that real garden in your yard a little prettier or watch an episode of the Simpsons or something. I know some tappers have real life snow that might need shoveling. Do your kids need a haircut? The dog a walk? What have you been putting off around the house that might bring you or others joy? There’s a whole world out there just waiting for you to experience it. TSTO will still be on your tapping device when you come back to it.

Valentine’s

Valentine's Panorama

This kind of goes with downtime. I can tell you I have heard from many tappers that when they talked with EA, that the rep on the phone mentioned Valentines. This leads me to believe that we may still see an event. I’d be really surprised frankly if we didn’t. Some of you know of another game based on an animated “family” and so far, EA has seemed to be in competition with them. I see no reason for them to not mirror holiday extravaganzas with them. It is after all a business. No new stuff equals no new purchases.

My thoughts are EA needed some extra time for Valentines and wanted to still offer something last week. The coolest thing last year IMHO event-wise was Stonecutters. I’m sure EA thought it’d be much more popular but that’s business. You win some, you lose some. Me thinks this coming week brings us Springfield love.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that American Greeting Card/Flowers/Chocolate Day is actually coming in the real world.  Did you buy your special someone something yet? There’s no time like the present to make sure the day is special for them even if it is all a corporate conspiracy to make us spend money on a fake holiday.  I choose to let my loved ones know they’re loved year round but it can’t hurt to make one day even more fancy.  You think a Mickey dressed like cupid is a good gift?

Summary

I’m happy last week wasn’t without anything. For every comment I’ve seen of a happy tapper who got something from Stonecutters they wanted, I’ve been happy right with them. This site is a community so even when there’s no new goodies for me, I’m thrilled others get stuff. Do I wish there was something super dope for veteran tappers? Sure, but I got over not getting anything new real fast. I spent the time I could have been bummed to tweak by D’Amico Summer Home design and make it as close to the episode it came from as I saw fit. I also bought a bunch of Stonecutters fences and have plans for them in future designs. Only one side shows the hieroglyphs so the plain side can be used in all sorts of ways.

Ultimately we are all entitled to our opinions and how we feel about updates and offerings. I choose to stay on the bright side of things. TSTO is the only game that has kept me playing for a long, long time and there has been downtime and sales I wasn’t terribly thrilled with before. Most likely, there will be in the future too. What keeps me tapping is the events and levels that make up for the lulls. Hopefully this week sees all sorts of lovey dovey stuff in our towns and the extra week brings us a smooth roll-out if the goodness arrives.

Well… that’s my two cents. Take it for what you will but know this fuzzball always roots for every tapper and knows good stuff is gonna come soon enough. Stay classy and much love… TTFN… Wookiee out!

  1. I’m very pleased with the Stone Cutters offerings. I’m a freemium player. So I haven’t purchased any of the items. But I’m more than happy to have the free items and skins. I started playing TSTO in the middle of the Stone Cutters event last year. So I didn’t get everything. It’s very cool to get the daycare center, and the free skins.

On a side note…..I’m very pleased to say that my friend tapping has netted me a lot of free doughnuts lately. I got 6 doughnuts today! Pretty friggin good! 😃

  2. I’m actually super into the down time. I’ve been about 10 levels behind quest-wise, so I am catching up quite rapidly now! 🙂

  3. Preach brotha!!! I paid 250 donuts for King Kong homer and never regretted it. I envied that building in every Springfield that had it and was happy to get it

  4. My problem with Stonecutters, since I don’t buy a lot with donuts. Only things I really want. Never saw the Stonecutters Episode and even if I did this would be to get stuff from one episode. I normally get more long term Characters with my donuts. I got Marge’s mom for example and Sideshow Mel, Dr. Nick, Barney, Otto, etc. Another problem I have is that none of the character skins we were given have any outdoor tasks. So when this is over I will never use their Stonecutter skin. Again one episode tie-ins do not do it for me. Still don’t get the new Willie that came out. He was in the episode for a whole two seconds. I like long term things and to be honest Valentines Day is a who cares for me anyways as most items only work around Valentines Day. 90% of my Christmas stuff is not in storage until next year.

  5. You hit the nail on the head here. I’m not disappointed by the sale, and was even able to get the daycare. I started playing just before the Stonecutter event last year, so it was too expensive. I also picked up some more fences and slides, because I’d not gotten too many and was recently wishing I had a few more.

I really do hope they do something for Valentine’s Day. I don’t have any of the items/characters and I’d really like to get them. I compulsively check this site several times a day, just in case there is a surprise update that I’ve missed.

Right after Christmas was over, I began a redesign of my town. I’m mostly happy with it, although I may move some stuff around my “upscale” part of town and had more decorations. I’d like to make it more along the waterfront, but first I’d need to move my Squidport… Ah, designing a town is hard sometimes. I’m glad I’m not a civil engineer. 😉

  6. The Iced Rooster

Do you have a ‘should you buy the Stonecutters Table’ post?

  7. Someone stole my burrito™

This is honestly the ONLY game I play. Sometimes I have to step back and take some perspective when I see myself getting so frustrated over content not coming along fast enough. It is borderline obsession.

Down times for me are when I contemplate perhaps getting rid of my iPad mini, which I use only for this game. Because it seems silly to almost lose sleep over a game. Mostly it’s a pleasant distraction while watching TV in the evenings, but here I am checking your website over and over for an update. Is that healthy?

  8. I admit I was disappointed at first with this update, because I already have everything from the Stonecutters event. I wish the sale had been of things from a little longer ago: Whacking Day, Springfield Falls, Superbowl tie-in, Kumiko, anything pre Android. Nonetheless, I’ve purchased a bunch more hieroglyph fences, and some more tube slides. And I’ve redesigned my Krustyland, and purchased the Liquor and Lotto so I’m now midway through Mr Largo’s questline. There’s been plenty to keep me busy, but I’m still hoping for Vday, and a return of Brandine and the Tunnel of Love. (I started playing at the end of last years event and had no clue what I was doing. And no neighboreenos!) But even if no Vday, I’m sure we’ll get something soon!

  9. Not every thing that hits the game has to be 100% boffo aimed at giving me a 150% game experience. Sometimes it’s okay for it to be not about me. I want the game to thrive. I’m really happy that noobs get to catch up on some of the vintage items. I would love to get the Mapple store.

Your point about having some down time to design and experiment is well taken. I see lots of friends changing things in their Springfields when I visit now – 3D designs and whimsical outdoor character tableaus. That’s part of the fun of the game. Far as I’m concerned Ned is never getting off that ski lift and it needed to be right outside the new gated community that the D’Amico House completed.

Maybe we’ll get a sweet little Valentine’s event for the weekend but something really fun is in the offing for St. Patty’s or Spring a la Stonecutters. It was, for me, my favorite event to date.

  10. To one of my dearest neighboreenos, Your take on this is RIGHT ON! It is exactly how i feel also! I don’t know if it is your SMRTS or your schooling or your eating special cheetos but in any case i could not have expressed it better and i can only hope that all the other global tappers take the time to read this! Thanks

  11. I like that they brought back this stuff for Stone Cutters. I don’t like that they didn’t bring everything back for that event. Well, here is looking that they do in the future.

  12. I agree Wookie. I loved the stone cutter event. I got almost everything during the original event but I never got the all seeing eye pyramid or the hibbert skin. I was so glad for the opportunity to get the all seeing eye. I had regretted not getting one. I still passed on the hibbert skin. I have more than enough donuts but to be honest even though it was the final stonecutter I needed to have three complete collections I didn’t think it was worth 50 sprinkles.
I’ve actually felt the games been flowing pretty well since clash of clones, Halloween, Xmas, new levels. It’s felt like there’s been less down time than in the past these past few months. I’m happy for the quiet time as long as valentines eventually comes I’m happy

  13. One thing for sure is the antagonists will be either weird chocolate covered
Fluff monsters that look like fat wookies but differnt colors.
They will most ikely be stored in jars.
Or just on the score board.

Or some weird heart shaped creatures it being v day.

They should honestly make a talking towlie version but call him fencie or fency a differnt verience. A walking talking fence mascot that looks ridiculous with vibrant paint graffitied all over.

Sure can also have him drunk.

Cause it would be a joke at how many people hate fences but would want this fence as its animated.

That’s a great running joke ploy.

  14. As someone who started playing during stonecutters, I was very happy for the second chance to pick up the daycare freemium! Back then 250,000 was unattainable – now it’s spare change. Again, as a starting player I didn’t manage to finish the complete event, but even though I gave christmas sale donuts burning a hole in my pocket I only picked up abandones store, no skins. Nice that the few I had are premium now, and I missed out on Brockman before, picked him up this morning.

However as a woman player I usually save ny donuts to pick up some more female characters – there just aren’t enough! That’s why i was impatiently waiting for valentine and continue to do so. I’ve also been coveting rose bushes and lily ponds all year! Please ea give us some Valentine! Some of us do like pink, you know 🙂

  15. I am happy as well, but I admit my largest desire here was a full on new player full stonecutter event. If have payed more than 150 donuts to let me actually do the whole original event, complete with prizes instead of individual donuts. Instead I get the lodge and free characters. (Not enough find for other goodies right now)

  16. I keep trying to get Miss Hoover, Mrs Krabappel, Patty and Selma to all line up by the school for smoking tasks. Wish EA would award prizes for this. Also fun: getting Barney to sleep in the gutter right outside of Moe’s and assigning Nelson to point and laugh at another Springfielder, like Cocoa Beanie getting beaten up, or Skinner in the tree.

    • I would pay for a premium object “ash can” that the smokers would all have a task to go to, yes I would! Or, and this is dark and twisted, if the smokers had a task to “enjoy the spectacle” and puffed away while Boobarella burned at the stake. Now *that’s* a premium payoff for buying Boobarella.

Completely Freemium fun: Rod playing on the monkey bars with mages from Clash of the Clones on either side. If you position them just right…

  17. Thanks Wookiee, I’ve been in a funk most not related to this game, so I complained! You are right and I too have been rearranging places in my town that when I started they looked ok, but as time went by and I added buildings & decorations I didn’t like it anymore. It’s been fun changing it around sometimes more then once. I don’t & probably will not nuke my town as there are parts I like. I put stuff in storage & move it around that way this also lets me look at how changes look with what I leave alone.
This too is only game I play and never was into games till I discovered TSTO. Coming up on my 1year playing next Sunday and still addicted. I love interaction on this site, I live in boonies so it’s nice to have something to occupy me that I enjoy!
Thanks all three of you, you make this game! Now if we could get EA to let you add, fix glitches, it would be totally awesome! (Of course they would have to pay you big bucks for your talent, so seriously doubt that would ever happen, but I can still dream)

  18. About Stonecutters: it’s my favorite event (or maybe Halloween 2012?). Unfortunately I missed most of the prizes/decorations/skins due to my device suffering water damage at the time, and I’m a freemium player, so this black market sale is being a torture to me – it reminds me how devastated I got when I realized I wouldn’t be able to play TSTO for a long time. But I do appreciate that the few skins I managed to get during the event earn at a premium rate now.

About the downtime: my town needs desperately a redesign, but I play on an iPhone 3GS!! Does anyone remember of this old device and how small its screen is? If players complain about having to place/move item per item, and I believe most of you play on a tablet, I can’t describe how stressful it is to me.

About Valentine’s Day event: I just hope it hits soon, because I’m going on a trip on February 28th/March 1st, and I don’t know if I’ll be able to play then, what would make me very upset for not having time to get all the prizes.

    • I was playing on IPhone 3GS too until march last year when my screen turns all white! I had a downtime of about three weeks as I get my first android phone. During that three weeks I had my first experience with bluestack as my addiction caused me to look for ways to play using the PC. I was amazed how big my town looked on the monitor!

  19. Im hoping for a non holiday event, like Whacking Day or Stonecutters: perhaps a level 50 spectacular introducing Bob as a playable character, or The Monorail expansion. Otherwise i get the feeling this Vday is just gonna be more useless tat and premium items i didnt want last year returning for sale.

  20. TY Wookiee — you’ve echoed my thoughts over the past few days, but said it much more tactfully than I would have!

To those bored veteran tappers who already had most of this stuff — just remember, you got all the Stonecutters tasks changed to premium tasks, for free!!!!

Personally, I think Valentine’s will either be like July 4th last year with just a mini-event, or it will be like Part 2 of Christmas, where the event mostly takes place after the special day it celebrates. Either way, I cannot see EA skipping it….

  21. Well Hopefully the Valentine Update is as interesting as the Christmas Event but I did like getting some of the freemium stuff from a past event that happen before I joined The game. 🙂

  22. Amen, could not have said it any better!
    Thank you!

  23. Maybe a plot where Homer forgot VD and had to make it up to Marge?

  24. I’ve been playing for just over a year, now, and finally I get to complain & whine about not getting something good as a ‘vetran’ player!
    LOL!
    This feels weird.
    😬

  25. Hey everyone, one thing I would really like to see on this website is more of people town designs! I’m not very creative and I like my town to be a realistic as possible but I love to see what others do.
    Roll on update!!

  26. *merely = barely

  27. Well said wookiee!

  28. Well, I agree that the stone cutters event was a good event, but merely because of the skins and buildings we got. I would pass them to category of the castles we got in the clash of clones event, hard to fit anywhere, even the skins I found poor, a brown cowl what’s that worth? The event was fun because of the daily riddles. I can not see I would spend anything now for the costumes or buildings without having the surrounding event.

The valentines day event, I mean: EA, you did it last year, we are expecting it this year!

    • The clash of clones castles and the areas I created for each are some of my favorite things about my town. I was on the fence about them during the event, but as time passed I’ve really come to appreciate them (and I’ve gotten over EA going back and forth with displaying the castle level on them and having goblin Bart and wizard Marge reset to level 1).

  29. I was happy as I hadn’t enough money left over the first time to buy some Stonecutter fences (they improve your Righteousness too). I bought over a hundred. I have some ideas for a really good Stonecutters Compound and the fences were essential.

The only surprise in this, was that if they wanted to give us a sale to keep us tied over until their Valentines event was ready, why not give us a Valentines Day Sale? While I am certainly not complaining, I am curious why they couldn’t tide us over with the chance to buy Bunni (sorry, Shauna 😉 ) Brandine, etc…

  30. Great write Wook! Yes, I must admit I am disappointed in the pricing but like you said it is a business so it is what it is. I started playing at the end of Stonecutters so I was extremely happy to be able to buy all the items I missed out on! I am my own worst enemy because I am a character set collector so this event/sale got pricy for me. I do however LOVE to see my Stonecutter sets completed!! YAY!!

Keep on Trucking, umm I mean, Tapping!!
