Friday Filler – Time to Take A Reality Check and Some Perspective

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

So, let’s start with the fact that if you are reading this, you own a padular/mobile device or computer of some sort, along with some type of data plan or WIFI associated with said device. As 2020 continues to throw us more curves than Henry Rowengartner in “Rookie of the Year,” things that we take for granted (like a daily dose of tapping) shouldn’t be on that list.

I realize that many folks play this “silly ‘lil game” to escape some of the realities of our everyday lives. I would be included in that group.  However, with the game being as simplified and EAsy as it has been the past 18+ months, it offers little respite. But, let’s be honest…as I implied…just having the choice to tap puts us in a category of “entitlement” that we very much take for granted.

I can’t/won’t get into politics here. I can’t/won’t discuss my current opinion of the “state of TSTO,” as both topics seem futile. As a nation…we could do with a whole hellofalotta less debate(s). Topics that should be discussed, rarely are. But, I digress…

So…instead…I am going to veer off course (what a surprise?) and talk about the fact that TSTO turned me on to the discovery of a new relationship…while cementing my allegiance to the community that is TSTOAddicts!

Friday Filler – When Fame and Reality Meet at the Crossroads of Fantasy and Adventure

Thank Grog It’s Firday!!!

I can’t believe it’s been a whole week since the intrepid Addicts Team was meeting (in some cases for the first time) in Disneyland!  So…cool! So “pre-Eclipse.”  So utterly kinda mind blowing to be a live action cartoon character in a sea of humans.

No. I wasn’t dressed up in a Mickey Mouse costume, or flamboyantly flashing my dreadlocks in a “Jack Sparrow” getup.  For this little dance on the side of “being you…while playing someone else…mostly…” I was actually dressed in my “CrankyOldGuy” uniform, as I call it these days.

I had worn it, as to be “easily recognizable” for any group Addicts pictures…and had left it on, out of convenience. And that’s when things got kinda weird, and cool, and fantastic…

Let There Be LIGHT(s)!!!!

Wow. OK…so this has been the kind of week that makes one want to down a bottle of Dramamine in one sitting.  Politics on both sides of the “big pond” continue to make the ground shake with change and speculation.

But, even more important than who leaked to whom, and who will take charge of what, is WHY CAN’T I GET EVERYTHING I WANT!!!!!!

EA has really pulled the window to a narrow split for many of us who were unable to log on every 4 hours for weeks. Turns out that sometimes life gets in the way…and when I made the calendar, I thought, “this look EAsy!”  But…of course…they changed things in the middle of the update, because it seemed too easy for some. Bastids!

Now…I will likely be forced to make the decision whether I want to drop donuts on “Moe’s Cave” and caveman character (Another Moe???)…or if I am just going to go with my gut, and realize that creating a huge Cave/Springfield, which will be followed by an Egyptian Springfield makes no sense.  I WANT the pirate stuff. I’ve always wanted to be a pirate in my heart of hearts.  But, we’ll have to see how difficult they make it to get it all.

I also admit that “getting it all” makes me feel a bit greedy…when so many have so little (like the players who missed 2-3 years of free stuff!).  And when I take a look at what’s REALLY IMPORTANT…

Us -vs- Them…Time to Get Over It!

Wow.

For the first time in a long time, I am starting to see some fatigue, and frustration setting in for the players of this “Silly ‘Lil Game.” And, I think it is time for a bit of reflection, and a reality check.

First of all…when someone says that they may be taking a break, or slowing down, or are disillusioned with TSTO, it is important to understand that this is a personal choice…and not a slam on anyone else who chooses to continue to play or remain faithful to “Tapping as a way of life.”

That said, there are as many reasons for tapping, or taking a break, as there are players in the game. This is a personal choice, and there is simply no wrong or right answer to “why I tap” or choose not to.  M’Kay???

What I have seen, is that the majority of this community is fiercely loyal to one thing…This Community!  And for good reason…

What Alissa (and to a far lesser degree those of us who “work” here) have created, is something unique, amazing, and wonderful.  The community of TSTO Addicts is FAR more than just a bunch of disparate tappers spread across the globe, looking for tips and tricks to make the game EAsier and more fun. It is a community of individuals, who have come together to share their thoughts and feelings about the game, while agreeing to support one another in a broader sense in this life.

Case in point…over the past few weeks…we have once again proven that we are MORE than just tappers…and have accomplished some things that seem to be elusive to the world at large…especially in this fractious political climate.

When a CrankyOldGuy is Humbled By a TSTO Community…

Let’s just start by saying that my “welcome back” to TSTO Addicts was a little rocky (as in having an effigy of me thrown down the 500 foot cliffs of Dover onto the rocks).  I deserved your mistrust…as those who knew the history, knew that I was a complete jerk to Alissa while I was a “competitor” after starting out as a contributor here.  It is a long story…and thankfully, as has been stated several times, we both buried that hatchet (because Riley told us to), and life has been pretty darn sweet every since.

But, there was that lingering doubt by many (and stated publicly on occasion) that I was going to “ruin the site” by “writing about things other than TSTO” and trying to “guilt trip” people into donating to our work in Uganda. Again…I get it…I was the interloper, and the outsider, who was darn lucky to be here at all.

But, with the tacit support of Alissa, I ventured once again into trying to help Addicts be “more than just a TSTO info site” while doing something that mattered in the world. And I quite frankly, was scared to death that it would unravel all of the work I had done to prove that I had indeed seen the error of my ways…and was grateful for Alissa’s support.

As it turns out…this community not only blew my mind…but broke all of the fundraising records for any project in regard to funds raised in the shortest time. And even more amazing,  the comments of support you sent were simply overwhelming.

Simpsons Secret Agents Act II – Calendar

All right…time for a little pragmatic realism here…

This ACT II is a bit EAsier than Act I…but not by much. rEAlly! 

As we have seen, some folks had no problem finishing on time, with a few rounds of Bonuts thrown in (myself included), while others struggled. It is clear that playing Freemium, unless you have played for a long enough time to have a number of the bonus characters acquired through the years, makes it rEAlly hard to stay on schedule, unless you log in every 4 hours- 4-5 times every day. No skipsies….

I’m looking at who is available to do tasks…and it is pretty much the same list. So…we’ll just have to see if the same numbers prevail in Act II.

HERE IS THE CALENDAR…in two formats…I start right off today…no sugar coating. You are supposed to be rough, tough, spies…right?
