Friday Filler – Time to Take A Reality Check and Some Perspective

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

So, let’s start with the fact that if you are reading this, you own a padular/mobile device or computer of some sort, along with some type of data plan or WIFI associated with said device. As 2020 continues to throw us more curves than Henry Rowengartner in “Rookie of the Year,” things that we take for granted (like a daily dose of tapping) shouldn’t be on that list.

I realize that many folks play this “silly ‘lil game” to escape some of the realities of our everyday lives. I would be included in that group.  However, with the game being as simplified and EAsy as it has been the past 18+ months, it offers little respite. But, let’s be honest…as I implied…just having the choice to tap puts us in a category of “entitlement” that we very much take for granted.

I can’t/won’t get into politics here. I can’t/won’t discuss my current opinion of the “state of TSTO,” as both topics seem futile. As a nation…we could do with a whole hellofalotta less debate(s). Topics that should be discussed, rarely are. But, I digress…

So…instead…I am going to veer off course (what a surprise?) and talk about the fact that TSTO turned me on to the discovery of a new relationship…while cementing my allegiance to the community that is TSTOAddicts!

Friday Filler – Living in a World of Diversion

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

OK. So…I will avoid politics, because frankly, this isn’t the place.  While we cling to TSTO and this place as a diversion from the “real world,” the fact is, the real world goes on, and on, and on…no matter how many new ways we cling to, hoping that “getting it all” with every update, will give us some sense of satisfaction.

People are suffering. And the there is simply no way to gauge personal suffering of others, as the one thing this pandemic has done, is to isolate us away from one another for our “safety.” But, I have to admit, there are simply times when as a 66-year-old guy, who has lived a very wide and fulfilling life, I take the “risk” of going against the grain, and do things that others would not.

Remember the good old days, when “running with scissors” or “swimming before an hour has passed after a meal” were considered risky behavior?  Who knew that not washing your hands every time you touch something that isn’t from your “safe bubble,” or gathering with friends for a drink, without vetting where they have been over the past 14 days, would become “risky behavior?”

But, count me in.  I’ve been that guy. Almost all family…but my family probably isn’t a good indication of “super safe,” either. I missed them. So shoot me…or cough on me, or lick my fork before I eat my chicken salad.

What do I miss most during this pandemic??

Thank You Tappers…When Tappers Step Up

There is no doubt that when I posted the plea for support for our rural school in Buyijja, Uganda on Saturday, I had very little hope that we could hit our goal over the next month.  Let’s face it…times are tough everywhere. If you haven’t read the papers (remember newspapers?), there is rioting in the streets, record unemployment, a contentious, raucous election, and…oh…that’s right…a global pandemic going on.

So, surely…common sense would tell you that it would take weeks to raise the target goal of $1,850 for remote teaching packets and supplies for the village of Buyijja, if at all. And especially for Tappers…who are known for playing TSTO “Cheapium”or “FullFarmer Freemium.” But, I had to try.

And I was wrong…

Because of Tappers from THIS AMAZING site, that reaches readers across the globe…We Hit Our Goal in Just Two Days!

That is not a typo. Two Days!

But there is more to this story…

Friday Filler – Giving Thanks Where Thanks Is Due

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

There’s one out of the way.  Because thanks is what this entire post is about.

And yes…the neighborhood turkeys are multiplying, and oblivious to the dangers of the season. THEY should be thankful that it is illegal to shoot them within city limits.  But, I have a sneaking suspicion they are acutely aware of this fact.

But, back to my thankfulness…

It has been brought up to me recently, that “these informational posts are great, and would be even better if a bit of the judgemental close-minded conjecture was slightly reduced…Alissa is my favourite hard worker because she sticks more to the facts and doesn’t lace a good chunk of her posts with subjective intense opinions…”

Yikes. Words hurt HT! But you did make me realize that this time of the year we need to work on being thankful, and full of grace. In this fractured world, with so many opinions about everything, it is easy to start a conversation with the negative. Or even worse…do the “but, flip flop.”

“I’m very thankful that there is still a TSTO, BUT…”

See? It’s the “thankful, but syndrome.”  So not being truly thankful or penitent!

Friday Filler – Early Black Friday Deals At A Steep Price?

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

I admit it. My head is a bit broken.  I’ve tried to curb my viewing of “current events,” but have failed miserably.  So, it was a welcome surprise, and a nice diversion when EA came across with an early (kinda) Black Friday/Thanksgiving mini-update.

I say “kinda” early, because the fact is, it mostly happened the same time as last year, and the year before. It’s Thanksgiving that is late this year. How DARE they make Thanksgiving and the REAL Black Friday so late in the month, and so close to Christmas???

Anyway, there was plenty to unpack for this event, and I’m sure most of you are very excited about the chance to get a ton of stuff that had been offered, at discount prices, as long as you were willing to spend real money.

Wait. What??? They are doing THIS again?  Forcing us to spend REAL MONEY (instead of farmed donuts) to get some of the stuff being offered????

Well…there IS A SOLUTION THIS PROBLEM!! I’ll Tell You how to get real value out of your real dollars spent!

Friday Filler – When In Lull, Make Your Dollars Count!

Thank Grog It’s Firday!!

I have to admit, that being in the epicenter of a lull (I know that sounds like an oxymoron), is no fun at all.  Not only are we in the same boat as all of the players in regards to the “Come on…tell us SOMETHING” vibe, but are also the ones trying to push everyone toward the  “Keep Calm, and Tap!” side of things, when we do get tidbits of info that is encouraging.

I’ll say it again. I don’t believe the game is ending anytime soon. But, we are clearly in a new phase, that at its core, is either something involving some serious changes in the game, or at worst, one of the most “EALPish” stages of the game ever.

In either case, we very much need to make it clear to EA that we aren’t going to reward their “lulliness” with investments of real dollars. This community is a voice that is heard…and we need to send a message!

Special Thanks To Very Special Addicts

As I like to do after one of our fundraisers, I am printing a list of those who made the effort to donate in this last round of School Book Funding for the school in Uganda we support.

This is the 13th round of books, supplies and teaching aids we have provided to this little school in the middle of the Ugandan jungle. Without us, there would be none of the critical books and supplies needed to educate more than 270 children from the village of Buyijja, and other villages in the area who have no other school.

The best news of all, these gifts are changing lives…and the teachers there are reaching goals of success. of which  many schools in developed nations would be proud.

I’ll let our project manager deliver the results…

Our Addicts International Outreach Project – Do Something That Matters!

It’s that time of the new year again, when many of you step up to help our “Addicts International Outreach” program in Buyijja, Uganda.

I know. Most of you come here for all of the free advice and community wisdom to help you play TSTO.   But, here at Addicts, we like to do more…

This project has been going since 2014, and has been funded almost exclusively (more than 85% of the funds), from the generosity of TSTO players worldwide!  It is a chance for us to get outside of the aspects of this “silly little game” and offer children a future, with our gifts of Peace, Hope and Love!

Winter Term begins at the end of the month, so we need to get on this quickly!
HERE ARE THE DETAILS… and remember…every donation, large or small helps!

On Labor Day…a Chance for a Labor of Love!

I know…it seems like all I do is ask for help and support for the kids in Buyijja. There’s a very good reason for that. They need our help.

And, as I have mentioned before…it is the ONLY thing that keeps me blogging about TSTO.

For 4 years, the School Books and Teaching Supplies have been funded in large part by the generosity of Tappers!  I’m not kidding… we’ve done wells, water tanks, bathrooms, and all sorts of other projects.

But at the root, is the ongoing support for education. This will make our 12th term of School Books and Supplies!

And Now…A Word From Our Sponsors and a BIG Thank You!

My training in my youth was better than this. Really.

I was trained to write a “Thank You Note” almost as soon as I received a gift.  At Christmas, the marching orders from my Mom were, “You can’t play with your gift, until you write a thank you note!”  That was pretty good motivation, unless it was socks, or a sweater from my Aunt in Illinois.  But, you get it…

So…I SHOULD have written this last week…or, even the week before.  But, as you might remember, all hell broke loose in our Krustylands. Nukes were tossed, and mayhem ensued.  I got distracted…

But that is no excuse…and it is time to set the record straight!
