It’s that time of the week again, time for the Addicts Weekly Open Thread!  So, let’s get the conversation going!  Oh and remember…just because this is posted here today doesn’t mean you can’t comment on it all week long.  This open thread will still be open for comments long after today is over!

Here’s where you can talk about anything you want to talk about…TSTO Related, Simpson’s Related or ANYTHING.  Just no Add me requests…those should go here.  We’ll give you a few suggestions (like most Sunday’s you can talk about the current episode of the Simpsons) but for the most part, you’re free to talk about ANYTHING your little Tapping Fingers desire…just keep it PG.

So, here is your Open Thread…..

Some things you may have missed this week around the Addicts Site:

No new Simpsons tonight, in fact they won’t be back until the end of February!  What’s been your favorite episode of the season so far?

ICYMI Addicts Live was back yesterday with a brand new episode!  We talked all things Red Alert, and why we should’ve been allowed to blow other towns up with this update.  You can check out the episode here.

The Red Alert mini-event is ending this week.  Have you finished up the questline? Thoughts on the mini-event?  Don’t forget to submit your designs in for Showoff this week, more details here.

We should see a new major event (likely a multi-event) hit our games in early February, thoughts on what type of event you’d like to see?

How’s your Springfield design coming?  What are you doing with your town? Share some photos in the comments below! (If you need a refresher on how to add photos to the comments check out this post)

Any weekend excitement going on in your neck of the woods? Have anything fun planned?

So chat about the Simpsons, TSTO, Update fun, or anything else you can think of! (Just no politics, it never ends well)  Can’t wait to chat with you all, you know we love hearing from you!

Red Alert Prize Guide: Main Questline and Prizes

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Springfield is on a Red Alert as a nuclear missile is headed their way!  Can you and The General help save the day?  Only time…and donuts…will tell!

Remember, this event is designed to follow a series of tasks via the questline to unlock prizes.  For each of the parts of the Panic at the Silo questline, you’ll have to earn via various character tasks in order to unlock the prize for that part.

So let’s take a look at the building and decoration prizes for this mini-event (we covered The General here), The Withstandinator, Springfield Sculpture Garden, Homer’s Bomb Shelter, and Missile Bunker…

Showoff Announcement: Red Alert

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s that time…calling all Addict Designers!  We’re getting ready to do the next Springfield Showoff, and this time around I want to see what you’ve done with the Red Alert mini-event stuff! With new and old buildings and decorations arriving with this event, show me how you fit them into your Springfield!   So prep those towns…because we want to see what you’ve done with your Springfield!

As always please remember to limit it to 1-2 of your favorite areas/photos…we can’t show your whole town unless you want to send in your entire town via town portrait.

So use this time to polish up your town and show us how creative you can be!  Send in your Red Alert-inspired designs (by 8 pm ET Tuesday, February 1st) and we’ll be putting up the Showoff post featuring your designs on Wednesday, February 2nd.

Remember, your designs can be anything and everything from the Red Alert mini-event, new and old, and how you worked it into your Springfield

So grab some screenshots of your town, or finish up those designs…just make sure to send your submissions in by about 8 pm ET Tuesday, February 1st, can’t wait to see what YOU have come up with.

You can send your designs in two ways…either post a link to the image in the comments on this post or you can email them to us at TSTOAddictsblog@gmail.com.  We won’t be pulling images from anywhere else, so please if you want to be featured either submit in the comments below or email your images to us.

Note: PLEASE try to limit your submissions to only 1-2 of your favorite screenshots.  We like to try and let everyone showoff their town but it becomes difficult when some of you are sending in 7-10 images.  Pick your favorite areas and send them in (or if you stitch photos together, that works too).  We’ll try our best to get EVERYONE in, but please understand that sometimes we miss a photo or two.  If we miss you one week, we’ll try really hard to make sure we get you in the next week.  You’re always welcome to showoff your town, at any time, on our Flickr page.  We know a lot of you have awesome towns that you want to show off, but please try to stick with this week’s theme.  Remember, this isn’t a contest.  There’s nothing to win.  It’s just a fun way to showoff your town and get some design inspiration from your fellow Addicts.  🙂

Do you want to be featured on the next Springfield Showoff?  Post your images in the comments below or email us your screenshots at TSTOAddictsblog@gmail.com. We can’t wait to see YOUR designs! (Need help with images, just ask.)

Tappers 101: Cars on Roads/Buildings on Water

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

So something that’s popped up in the comments recently is about placing cars on roads.  We all know you really can’t do that in TSTO (oh EA how I WISH you would add more things to drive on roads…Mr. Plow’s plow would have been a perfect opportunity!), but there is an existing glitch in the game that will allow you to do so with a little maneuvering of road tiles.  This glitch will also allow you to place buildings on water, should you choose to do so.

Here’s an example from Addicts reader glenntanim11:

So let’s talk a little bit about how to do this in your town…and keep our fingers crossed that EA doesn’t close off this glitch because I’m talking about it...

Should You Buy Radioactive Homer?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Spending actual cash on donuts for a character is back in TSTO.  This is something EA’s been rolling out over the last few years, and it’s a new bonus for actually spending cash on donuts. (instead of just farming them)  Where they attach a premium, limited-time, character to one of the donut bundles sometimes in addition to bonus donuts.

And I want to be perfectly clear…you do not need to buy these characters to complete an event.  You can still play this game, and complete all the tasks and prizes, 100% free.  These cash-for-character items are a new type of premium currency…because donuts have been so devalued with donut farming.

This time around we’re being offered Radioactive Homer,  a premium costume for Homer, for a tray of 132 Donuts ($9.99 in the US)..no bonus this time around.  While it’s hard for me to sit here and tell you if you should or shouldn’t spend actual cash on the game (spoiler, I think you should always spend at least a small amount…even if it’s $.99/year on the game if it brings you joy and you want to see it continue) I thought I’d do a quick breakdown of Radioactive Homer, tasks, questline and other details you may be curious about.

So let’s consider this an abbreviated Should I Buy….
