Friday Filler – Land and Storage Management For Christmas

Thank Grog It’s Firday!!

Let’s be honest about it.  We have become a very, very, entitled little bunch when it comes to Christmas updates.  As I wrote about last week, there are FAR more important things in the world to worry about than if we get what we want, when we want, and how we want…in a mobile game.

It’s kind of like what happens to a spoiled kid at Christmas that gets everything on his list…and then gets tired of playing with a lot of his toys, because he has so damn many of them!  Parents end up trying to figure out where to put everything…and kids just move on to the NEXT thing they want.

But, I get it. I saw loads of comments about the dearth of land in the game, combined with the wealth of stuff we are getting in the update. One of you or more actually pushed back when I said, “quit yer whining…I have LOADS of land left to buy” by telling me to do a Friday Filler on Land Management in our games.

Well…me and Santa have a lot in common (besides our love of cinnamon rolls and wassail), so I am going give you your wish, and do just that.

How I have it all…and still have land left to buy…with GAME CASH!!

Friday Filler – Knowing When a Problem is rEAlly a Problem

I’m not really sure why the outcry from this event hit me so hard.  I’m not usually one to react emotionally about comments on this blog. But, this time…well…I admit that I lost it.

I mean...really lost it.  Like throwing the phone across the room, lost it. I mean, the kind of lost it that makes people step away…far away…until you settle down and stop laying on the floor, in a quivering mass…

Friday Filler – Of Cat Ladies, Cats and Aerial Traffic Control

Thank Grog It’s Firday!!

And man…did “grog” ever match the goings on for the Miller clan over the protracted Thanksgiving weekend!  As mentioned in my last Friday Filler, we drove 9 1/2 hours through the midnight fog, driving rain, and wind, over the Siskiyou Summit, and into a weekend of Thanksgiving, Birthdays, and a perfusion of wine-tasting.  My daughter Ali, who lives in San Francisco with her husband Ryan, works for GAP Inc. as a Senior Buyer.  Where was she on “Black Friday?” With us…wine in hand…watching the Ducks pound the Beavers in the Civil war. Her buying  for the GAP Black Friday was done months ago!

This was between my wife’s birthday on the 22nd, and Ali’s birthday on the 24th, which was celebrated with a stay at an old farm house on a vineyard, and several sojourns to other wineries for “tastings” throughout the weekend. You had to pace yourself.  Trust me.

I threw in the towel mid Saturday, and escaped with my daughter Maddy’s boyfriend to Sanoma TrainTown, (see the link) which was a great deal ($7.50 for a 20 minute train ride, or roughly 1/4th the cost of a “tasting”) where I heard the agitated tales of “Jefferson,” my daughter’s latest “demonic child in cat form.”

Which brings us to the REAL reason for this post…a discussion of Cat People, and how the Crazy Cat Lady is a perfect addition to our games, and the airways above our towns!

Friday Filler – What I’m REALLY Thankful For…

Thank Grog It’s Firday!!

I am writing this early, as on the “real Friday” I will be in California, helping to celebrate the 30th Birthday of my daughter Ali, the 59th birthday of my amazing wife Deb, and hopefully, the day after a Thanksgiving that required us to drive through the night to Cali, through loads of remnants of wildfires, freezing rain, over a mountain pass,  to a remote house in the woods, that was just 30 miles away from the devastation in Paradise.   So…yes…many, many things for which to give thanks!

Of course, Thanksgiving is also a time for reflection…and looking back on how things have changed in our lives, and in TSTO.

This also comes on the heels of what has to be the most convoluted, and greedy Black Friday event ever. An event that is so egregiously transparent in it’s avarice, that it sets a new low bar, even for EA. However, by now…those of you who impulsively bought the silly donut factory for $50, have already done so…and those who listened to us are thankful. But, I digress.

The fact is, when I looked back on the first Black Friday I wrote about back in 2014, I was shocked at how angry I was about the whole thing…in compared to the apathetic, complacent, calm I feel today.  What was different?  Did the game change? Or did I?

I was a really different person a few years back.

Don’t believe me?  Well…read some portions from the Thanksgiving post I wrote back in 2014…and maybe you’ll agree that I have changed…

Friday Filler – Three Things to Remember For Thanksgiving

When you reach the lofty age of nearly 65, as I have…you are right on the cusp of being able to offer “Sage Advice” for almost any topic.  The years, with all of the experience that comes with those years, make you an expert on all sorts of things. Including, “How to Make Your Thanksgiving Wonderful!”

There are really just three pretty basic things to remember to make your Thanksgiving holiday perfect.  And I am more than happy to share them with you right now, just in time for the upcoming celebration next week!

Friday Filler – Finally…back to normal?

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

Man.  What a week!  I know you are probably tired of hearing me say, “what a week,” but I am tired of having the kinds of weeks that make me say, “What a week!”

After months of nastiness, the U.S. is finally through the midterm elections, and we can get back to normal…complaining about TSTO!

I was just fine with ignoring politics…at least for a bit…and then I got this bit of a reminder about diversity in Springfield (which seems to be a hot topic these days), from Lisa and her new buddy, Womenhet.

Friday Filler – It Has To Be Said…

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

As a long time Simpsons fan, I found myself in the unenviable place of being a “talking head” on a “hot topic” and not making myself completely clear during the last “Addicts Live.” If I was running for an elected office, I’d be toast.  However, at the ripe old age of 64 10/12th old, I can assure you that I have undeniably said and done things that would/should have eliminated me from ever holding a public office.  Of course, the rules of comportment and decency in public office have changed drastically.  And that, in a sense, is exactly what I am writing about today.

I am angered by reports of Apu being removed from the Simpsons.  There are myriad stories around this, none of them clear.  The primary reason, is that those in charge at Gracie and Fox are pretty much taking a “we already handled this” approach to the whole controversy that has erupted around the documentary, “The Problem with Apu,” without actually handling it!

Friday Filler – Of Real Estate, Castles and Clutter

Thank Grog It’s Firday!

Yes. This is one of those weeks when a nice large vessel of grog is going to be needed to launch the  weekend.  The world is coming unglued…and my mind and town are cluttered with what the media and EA are shoving at us.  I can turn one off…but, I am still left with the unbelievable task of figuring out where to put all of this Halloween stuff!

Yes… EA gave us another huge (and randomly placed) chunk of land.  But, when you do the measurements…if you buy even one of the large Premium items, you have scant room to decorate, much less save room for the upcoming Mummy Invasion.

I get it. You want your Multipliers. You want to reach 30% or even 40%, and  so you are tapping and crafting your little fingers to the bone.

But, here’s tip number one...and it’s a big one…you don’t really need a huge multiplier to “Get it All.”  In fact…if you are like me, and logged in every 4 hours at least 4 times a day, you likely already have She-Wolf, or will get her over the weekend.

So…what is the real challenge of this update??

Friday Filler- The Future of TSTO Looks Bright…and Young!

Thank Grog It’s Firday!!

I had to travel more than 3,500 miles to do it. But, I have met the future of TSTO. The future looks bright, hilarious, and a bit drooly!

When someone actually takes the time to stop tapping long enough to take in life, it is amazing how enjoyable life becomes…even while tapping.  As I mentioned last week, I did an East Coast whirlwind tour including some great music, a great game (football…not TSTO) and 4 days of complete “full baby immersion” that was better than I could ever have imagined.

And near the end of my stay…I was able to witness the very first meeting of two icons of the “Future of TSTO.”  It was amazing… I couldn’t stop smiling…they couldn’t stop drooling. It was epic…

Friday Filler – Taking the Time to Chillax And Celebrate My “Tappiversary”

I have to admit that I often get that panicked feeling when I think I am going to miss a “tapping cycle.”  I end up “talking myself down” with a pep talk of “Hey…it’s not that big a deal if you get 4 in today, instead of 5.”  But, I know myself.  I know that if I start to slack off, it’s a very slippery slope.

It’s very much like buying a bag of Halloween Candy and promising that you will only eat 2 Kit Kat bars or 1 Butter Finger bar a day…wait…did I say 2 or 3? They’re tiny…and probably don’t amount to even a half of an actual size bar. So…maybe 4 a day is no big deal if I hit the rowing machine sometime today. But, I don’t have time to row…and I really want 4…so what the heck…4 it is…I’ll row longer tomorrow.

See?

But, tapping isn’t the same as Kit Kat bars.  The fact is, I get a whole lot less satisfaction from tapping, but I am a whole lot more addicted to it. Which presents a problem when you travel. Which I am going to be doing…

In fact, I am writing this early. By the time this posts, I’ll be in New York, with my friend Dave….after battling a week when I had 3 weeks of work to do, in one week, before I took off…knowing that although I SAID it would be a “working trip” I most likely wouldn’t do much at all.  Like I said…I know when the slope is slippery…and I am used to knowing when I am going to slide.

BUT, WE ARE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A HUGE UPDATE!!!!!!
WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?????
