Well here we are, in most Tappers favorite time of the year in Springfield….Halloween! (although I prefer Christmas 😉 ) The leaves on the tress have changed colors, the water is murky and there’s a darkness that falls over our TSTO screens. All of these effects fit in perfectly with this year’s theme….Nightmares.
As we’ve seen with recent events (really since Stonecutters in June of 2014), EA likes to add an element of Daily Challenges to each Event as a way to earn more currency, special prizes and sometimes event bonuts! (bonus donuts) The 2015 THOH Event is no different. Yesterday we saw the Shop Keeper’s Challenge get implemented with the House of Evil! This is a great way to do tasks each day to earn bonus crafting currency and earn bonuts each week!
Now I know some of you are a bit confused about the challenges and exactly what to do. So let’s break it all down for you…including a list of this week’s challenges…
So as Bunny broke down in yesterday’s post…to get the Daily Challenges you need the House of Evil. Now some of you may have it from previous THOH Events (which I did) and some of you may not. If you don’t have it you’ll be awarded it for free once you trigger the challenges.
So now let’s cover some basics…
When Does a new Task Start?
Tasks unlock at 8am LOCAL TIME each day. So whatever part of the world you’re in at 8am your time the next day’s task will unlock.
Do I Only Have 24hrs to Finish Each Task?
No. If you don’t finish Day 1 when Day 2 unlocks it’ll still allow you to finish Day 1. And You don’t have to finish them in order. So basically Day 1 will roll over into Day 2 if you don’t finish it before Day 2 unlocks. And you can do both Day 1 and Day 2’s tasks.
You just can’t jump ahead. So you can go backwards and finish a task, but you can’t move forward until that day unlocks.
So How Long Do I Have to Complete Each Week’s Challenges?
You have a full week (7 days) to complete the 5 challenges. The Challenges will reset each week on Monday, so if you don’t complete the 5 by the time they reset you’ll miss out.
Today’s Challenge Says I Have to Squish Zombies, Can I Squish Them in a Neighbor’s Town and Have them Count?
Yes and no. As long as you still have your neighbor actions available (remember it’s only 90/day) if you tap ZOMBIES in your neighbor’s town it’ll count toward the Zombie total. But if you’ve used all your neighbor actions already it will not count. (this same principle applies to upgrading..if you need Zombies to upgrade and you’ve maxed out your friend actions for the day they won’t count towards the upgrade total).
And I think that addresses most of your Daily Challenge concerns…
So now let’s take a look at what we can expect from the Daily Challenges this week:

My house of evil is frozen and I can’t get it to say I’ve completed the send kid on s’mores task. I’ve tried storing it and hard closing it. Not sure if any one else is having this problem?

I have same problem. I think I upgraded twice today but it still says 0/15 smores. Grrrrrrr
i started playing TSTO last year (WITHOUT an Origin/EA account) during Clash Of Clones, and then between last years THOH and Thanksgiving my phone got stolen, so its been great to be able to “get back” Hugo, Spooky House, etc after having to start over again.
As a mostly freemium player (yeah right, I’m kidding myself these days!), I’ve picked up all the returning ltd buildings: Pet Cemetary, Mausoleum, Grand Pumpkin (really? it’s classified under Buildings?) and also the Victorian UFO (mainly because of tasks associated to it). House Of Evil for free? Great! Another off my list! Umming and ahhing over the Raven, but i generally don’t go for NPCs or skins. Waiting on SIBs for Ancient Ruins and Shinning Maze, but decorations are another thing I generally don’t go crazy on, unless there’s tasks involved.
All in all, his event has been WAY less stressful than, say, the Terwilligers which was a crafting nightmare!
Any suggestions on how to get s’mores faster? I got the model donut today but I’m afraid of not making it to the gate so I’m looking for any suggestions.
There’s no way to earn them faster. All you can do is send kids frequently and clear nightmares frequently. No magic way to get them.
I love the Shopkeepers challenge . . . mainly because it hasn’t been much of a challenge. I got the Zombies through Neighbor visits – and the s’mores just by tapping my campfire and releasing the kids. tomorrow looks simple enough, I have more than 1,000 of each product to craft with . . . and by Friday I’ll be on Snakes and lined up to finish that one too!
Still loving this event, With my job I’m lucky to hook up to wireless for 15ish minutes at lunch to tap – and I’m in a great spot to finish up the Act 1 prizes before Act 2 (by a day or so). Many thanks to EA for finding a balance in the craziness, and Many Super Thanks to the TSTO Addicts for keeping us so well informed with the ridiculous amount of information you guys push out on a daily basis!!!!!!

I’m not sure why but I can’t visit tstoaddicts? I had to Google TSTO and click the first link to a article from the site but it only shows from past days and when I type it in my address bar it brings me to the site but says sorry there is no related content in these archives?

Ever since I placed the building I have the rail yard glitch where I have to go to Krusty land to get the payout. Well, I went to go place what should have been 11 track pieces but, I have none. So it’s saying it is placing the pieces in storage but, it’s not. I’m on an IPad. Is this a known issue or a new one? I hate to work all those characters for track & not get them, I did get the 5th day donuts, so at least I didn’t lose out there. Thanks!
The having to go back to k-land is known to have restarted with this update. But the missing tracks..that’s new to me. I’d contact EA.
I have had the EXACT Problem happen to me with 11 Rail Tracks missing!! I have contacted EA abt it and they r working on it trying to figure out what happened!! Contact them and this way they will know it is happening to others also!! Mine dissappeared a good week ago!! Please call them!!😀
I had an issue where I didn’t get my last five tracks and I told them I want paying attention to my donut count so I didn’t know if I got them or not.
The good news is they gave me a dozen tracks, but for some reason they didn’t even give me 5 donuts for my trouble and to be sure I got them.
My game didn’t tell me there were new (for me) items in the shop, I love this site!
I did accidentally purchase a donut item for the first time though, I didn’t realize the snake log wasn’t unique and even though my confirm donut spend was on I was tapping too fast and wound up with two.
I’m super happy with the grand pumpkin (love the animation!) and raven Bart especially….fingers still crossed for witch Marge!
I hemmed and hawed on the donut feeding machine a bit, but bought it, I am a sucker for most things Halloween.
I earned the Gate to Nowhere this morning and think it looks great behind in the ruins.
I’m having difficulty with my friends (hello, friends!) aside from the usual lag. I’m in Europe and if I do them in the morning, I am able to drop off nightmares but then most people don’t assist/pick them up before the 4 hours are over. If I do them in the evening, most everyone’s town is full 🙁 I wish they would show you in the menu how many terrors a given town can accommodate – their total in storage does nothing for me, and the time involved in going in and out of each town adds up. I’ve been trying to split up my terrors evenly with extras for the friends that are so generous to me, but it’s difficult and I’m not sure everyone’s getting what I’m dropping off.
Is raven Bart an NPC or a skin for Bart? I’m guessing, by the price, that it’s the former….

Thanks! Not generally a big fan of NPCs, so I think I’ll pass on this one, too.
So far, none of the premium items from this event have been very tempting (well, I would have liked Martin’s wizard skin, but the high price made it an immediate pass for me), which I guess is good in a way, because I get to hang onto my sprinklies for done things I’ve been saving towards. That said, I would be very happy if they brought the transporters back (at a reasonable price) and I might consider getting Kodos, too, if she returned.
I got it, but its kinda meh, walks around town til you tap it, then flies for 3-5 seconds around town, that’s pretty much it
Did you get the Grand Pumpkin this year? Can you craft or buy pumpkin houses during this event with it?
I got the Victorian UFO. I’d been coveting it for a while but last year it was a bit too expensive for my taste. Anyway, I put it in de midst of a few pumpkinfields so it looks like it crashed there. Makes a change from crop circles…. Perhaps they tried to create one in the pumpkin patch and crashed instead 🙂
Loving the donuts but my inner cynic says that all the freebies are a plan from EA. We’ll be more likely to part with our precious donuts, and get hooked on premium items. Then they’ll dry up the supply and we start buying more donuts (sorry if all that was hard to follow ;))
On the side, it’s sorta cool to have Australia getting stuff first for a change.
I’m liking this event so far because it’s not too hard to get everything despite only being able to play a max of twice a day. Neighbour visits are bit harder to do, just don’t have the time to search for the nightmares so mostly just been dropping the formless terrors in my neighbour’s towns.
Does anyone know whether you can craft or buy pumpkin houses if you buy the Great Pumpkin this year? I feel that’s the only reason I would buy it is if you can get those adorable houses.

I hope that the shopkeeper challenges will continue after the event, like the rail yard. Is there any way to prove or disprove my theory?

I got a bug for day two. Counted thirty squashed zombies, then gave me a “bonus” 100, for a total of 30+100= 100. (note:this equation is not valid….)

I’m not sure I fully get this aspect of the event. All of these things will basically happen automatically as you play the event. Compared to something like the Stonecutter event the word “Challenges” is REALLY stretched. In that regard it is fitting that the rewards each day are a just very small amount of crafting currency…
Of course the donuts are the big thing. I’m never going to complain about free donuts, but I feel like it would have fit the event better if it gave a small Halloween themed prize each week. Maybe they have something like that in store down the road, but the info screen makes it look like this is it.
I don’t really get what EA is doing with this (though I am liking the rest of the event!), but that doesn’t change the fact that the Addicts have done a great job clearly explaining everything and keeping us well informed. I always enjoy reading these posts and the comments 🙂
Started out frustrated today, started a story late as got up later then usual, only to see I needed to zap 30 zombies! Thankfully I have awesome neighbors so off I went visiting & had my 30 zombies after visiting neighbors.
So thankful for neighbors, handed out nightmares to show gratitude lol! Only ones I did not leave had zero up in corner, I don’t like zeros 🙁
Tomorrow is another day & I’ll be lurking around again.

Just a tip, although you may already know this, if you have monsters of any kind (bunnies, skeletons whatever) already in your town untapped, have the character tell a story for the mob type you need, and some of them seem to switch over to that new type of mob, at least they did for me. I needed zombies but had rabbits spawned when I woke up, switched up the story, and boom I had my zombies done.
Can we please have a SIB for the Ancient Ruins? I think this is new for this event? I check daily for the SIB before I commit the donuts, but now there is only a few days left….
It’s coming. There’s only so many hours in a day and posts tend to follow what the majority of the questions are about.
I assume the majority of questions are about the glitch that gives us 20 donuts a week for completing challenges. When can we expect a mandatory update patch for that? Will it be a store update? Should we contact EA to see if they are OK? Were they hacked by China?

Charles, it’ll be a very short SIB? I bought Ancient Ruins and it sits next to Gate to Nowhere but does nothing…no animation or payout. I think it does add to conformometer but big whoop. I would pass if given a second chance.
So i’m only seeing the Mausoleum and Hollow Snake Trunk. Just exactly what are the returning items. p.s. I know this could mean I have all the items from previous halloweens butt i just wanted to make sure there’s no glitch.

Has anyone else lost quests when the daily challenges started? I lost my donut lady quest, Bart and Hugo quests and kodos/kang quests

I believe the donut lady quest was just one quest for Homer, if he had already done that, questline done.
I have missed out on a lot of stuff in TSTO (only been playing since early 2014, and for quite a while I refused to put any real money in it for donuts) and there are a some items I see in my neighbors towns that I have always wanted. Now that I am a full blown addict I caved and bought myself some donuts for my birthday this summer. One of the items I have been coveting is the pet cemetery, and now it’s mine!!! I had to get the Raven too (love that episode, Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”) I am also seriously tempted to get the Victorian UFO and I am hoping that Kodos will show up this year.
I think we will get the 20 donuts` in one pink lump sum however- i bet next weeks reward may be something other than donuts. But who knowz..!?
I noticed neighbourly random donuts seems to have been switched off….unless I’ve been unlucky and not got one last two days.
20 donuts seems good but if other donut earning from visiting neighbours is switched off well that kinda defeats the purpose.

Two days without neighbor donuts is perfectly normal! If you have 100 neighbors and visit all of them, you should get an AVERAGE of 1.5 donuts. So think of it this way….all those times you got 2 donuts? Those are now being balanced out by 0 donuts!
BTW, I got a neighbor donut tonight, so they’re still working. 🙂
past week I got three in one day, then two the next, so definitely not switched off.
Not in my experience. Although I’ve stopped visiting neighbors after two days. Other towns are loading too slow, and it’s also too time consuming to wait for them to spawn and then to locate.
Make sure with the new prizes that you’re at max FP. I only get donuts when I’m at max FP.
I’m having trouble believing that we’ll get 20 bonuts each week for completing those challenges…I have this feeling it will turn out to be 5 bonuts for four weeks for a total of 20 bonuts. Because it looks like there are more days (weeks) of tasks to come and I have a hard time believing were gonna keep getting 20 bonuts a week. But I hope I’m wrong!!
That’s possible. I’m only going with how I’m interpreting it in the game and files. But as I always say…we won’t know until it hits the game
Off topic…. I like that formless terrors are abundant. It’s such a pain in the neck when you want to drop things in your neighbours’ towns and they’re hard to come by.
I’ve also just realised that I wasn’t playing last Halloween. I’ve had the game for a couple of years now but got really bored with it after the Stonecutter event and didn’t play for ages. Took it up again when breastfeeding in the middle of the night in January this year.
Is it worth upgrading the campfire? I am on level 10 and I dunno if I should go higher. The prizes keep repeating over and over. I do not need anymore of them lol.

There’s no reason not to upgrade the campfire. You have no idea how many items you will need to craft the act 2 and 3 prizes.
Agreed. I wouldn’t be surprised if they come out with some supercool haunted run-down motel that costs like 3600 Brains.
Personally, I’ll just keep upgrading, keep tapping, and keep growing those numbers!!
Finally got the raven. Now i just need them to bring back two of the zombies. I’m still missing the one with the mask, and the one wearing the bird cage. Fingers crossed!
My initial thought was, awesome, here come the good prizes. Instead more crafting martial. I feel underwhelmed. But hey, bonughts!
They all seem pretty easy, which is good. Just got to make sure the last one doesn’t slip away from you, which is bad. But as long you get it you have free donuts, which is good. If not though than it was all for nothin, which is bad.
Does anybody know if Maude Flanders, bad dream house, and the zombies from a previous halloween event will be available to purchase?
