Hey Howdy Hey Ghostbuste..er I mean Gift Grabbers!
Snow has arrived in Springfield & is it just me or is anyone else have Déjà vu? Christmas looks a lot like Halloween (sort of). Instead of the creepy mist, Ghosts, Gremlins and GOO, Christmas brings us snow, gift boxes, gift bags and gift cards (Geez..what’s with all the G words EA?!) Confused yet? Don’t be…as always the Addicts team is here to help! We’ve got you covered, so that plus the 4 weeks you have to play the update should help you achieve all of the goals! Let’s get right to it by breaking down the “game inside the game”.
If we were Ghostbusters at Halloween we’re Gift Grabbers for Christmas, because that’s what EA is asking you to do here. The object is to “grab” (tap) gifts in your town to collect Gift Cards and other goodies. Gift Cards are the new in-game currency for special Christmas items. Occasionally a Gift Box will spill out a Gift Bag or a Spin Coin when you tap them. Gift Bags are collected to put into your friend’s towns, they’ll help you earn more Gift Cards. Confused yet? Don’t be…let’s break it all down step by step
Gift Boxes:
Once you’ve completed the Too Much Of A Good Thing Pt. 1 Task and Placed the Present Depot your town starts to earn Gift Boxes. The gift boxes appear out of the Present Depot and once you grab them they’ll disappear and be replaced with Gift Cards and other goodies, like gift bags.
Here’s what the Gift Boxes Look Like:
Gift Cards:
Again, Gift Cards are the new in-game currency. Gift cards are red with a green bow and appear when you grab gift boxes. They’ll also appear in a variety of other ways as well. You can also earn Gift Cards while visiting friends towns, completing special event tasks & grabbing Gift Bags.
Gift cards are then collected for personal AND community prizes. Just like Halloween there are 10 personal prizes you can earn from collecting Gift Cards.
Gift Bags:
Gift Bags are the new “Gremlins” of Tapped Out. You can place Gift Bags in your friends towns and they help earn more Gift Cards. In order to place Gift Bags in your friends town they (and you) MUST have completed the first part of the Holiday update (placing the Present Depot, & collecting 10 gift boxes from their present Depot). You can tell if a friend is at this point by checking out the Gift Card counter over their town on the neighbors map. If the counter is more than zero you know they’re able to accept Gift Bags in their town, however if they’re still at “0” then they aren’t quite ready.

The only other thing I want to mention at this point is, now when you visit friends (who are ready for Gift Bags) you can tap 3 buildings with Gift Cards over them to collect more Gift Cards (and cash). Be sure to collect all gift cards that come out of the buildings in your friend’s town BEFORE leaving. Otherwise they won’t count toward your goal. You can place 5 Gift Bags in a Friends town. Here’s how you do that:
Tap on the gift bag icon in the top right corner. They’ll place the gift bags in your neighboreenos town! Yes, it really is that simple!

This was a limited time episode tie in item. If you didn’t unlock it over the weekend (or before Christmas hit) it’s not available to unlock now. Since it was limited time it was removed just before the Christmas update hit. 🙂

Ugh. I do not have the gift bag icon in the corner. I went to all of my “friends” looking to see if I could tap on a bag or present, but I could only get gift cards.
Did I do something wrong?
Next to my gift card total I only have 2 gift bags. Grumble. I hate to complain, but I want to know more about the spinning coins.
Any ideas? Oh and I would welcome active new neighbor / friends I am spoilsport
We are looking into this. I apologize. The go to is to try all the basic troubleshooting and if no luck, contact EA so they are aware of the issue and just how wide spread it is so they can correct it. In the meantime I am trying a few things to see if I can help further as far as triggering this issue.

Patience is what I needed. After Lisa finished her snow angels, or something honestly I just tap a lot and read the dialogue, Lisa said give the gifts, and Homer was sarcastic.

My town won’t let me leave gift bags for people and I have done all the requirements to do so. The icon does not appear in their town as I visit it and that means I can’t drop off gifts. Can this be fixed?
We are looking into this. I apologize. The go to is to try all the basic troubleshooting and if no luck, contact EA so they are aware of the issue and just how wide spread it is so they can correct it. How can you get more gift bags?!?! I’ve been to all my neighbours and have been playing for HOURS today, but I’ve only been able to collect approx 10 total!!! That’s not many for me to spread the Christmas spirit. Is there something I’m missing??
Your not missing anything. I collected about 8 total today and was on the game of and on all day.

I am trying to drop gift bags in my friends’ town but the game keeps telling me that I don’t have any Gift Bags to deliver even though on the top right corner I see a number 5 and Gift Bag Drops are 5/5. Anybody having the same problem?
The gift bags you see (5/5) is actually the amount YOU can GIVE AWAY in their town. In other words YOU can leave your friends up to 5 within a 24 hour period. It will count down as you drop some (4/5, 3/5, etc)
As far as how many you actually have to give out…that total can be seen in your main town down at the bottom left hand corner. Along with your Gift Card Count.
The gift bag button doesn’t show on my screen and I’m playing against the computer and a friend of mine who both have the update. No button…can’t give the gifts.
Been hearing quite a few mentions of this. Same thing is effecting a friend of mine. If all the regular fixes don’t work, you may need to wait a couple days or call EA.
How do you play on the computer? I’ve been trying to do that!

I think this tapperino was referring to their “Other Springfield” town but if you’re interested in playing on your comp, the program people use is Bluestacks. It is a very buggy program since it is in the beta stages. I never got it to work for me and would just advise using your current device. Bunny is much smarter than me when it comes to tech so here’s her post about it.

My gift bags keep dropping behind buildings. Many of my friends towns are tight, I try to pick the least crowded space and strategically center where I hope the bags will drop but they still end up hidden behind a building where they can’t be seem. May aim must be off. :/
Lol… I think those gifts are destined to be remembered like WD eggs. It’s the giving that’s important anyways, not the receiving.
No matter how hard I try they end up hidden lol. EA is just trying to sell more elves. Oh well the hiding buildings helps spot them. 🙂

I dunno if someone has brought it up already but I notices two things in the game after the update – one is that there’s a small box on the upper left of the screen. This box contains an image/images of the characters that are idle. If you click the box it will look for the character so that you can easily assign tasks to it. Second is that you can get gift cards from neighbors who are not participating in the Christmas Update 🙂

I have a few out at sea too. I even moved my submarine next to one to make it look like the gift was floating to it or even on it. Lol.
Or you could just have moved the gift itself – it’s much easier than moving a submarine 😉

It is my understanding that gifts will reward cards only to the person who receives them as opposed to gremlin who helped both parties get goo. Correct me if im wrong.

I am desapointed about the building christmas decorations.
I turn the egg nud wheel and got all the christmas building decoration offer….they were only 5 because I got the others in 2012 ! I can’t believe EA is only offering so less building decoration!!! There is so many building to decorate ! They don’t even suggest a decoration for the Wiggum house or the church!
Now, the only choice the wheel offer us is money and gift card… I dont give a crap! I want more building decoration! Grrr!
Beside of that, the rest of the update is cool.
It would’ve been great to get a bunch of building skins but with all the snow, everything is festive. Good news is there is a ton of new stuff and the 5th community prize is an amazing building skin.
Even with one community price building skin, EA could and should have been able to create more skins. They knew, we were hoping to decorate the entire town. For me, it’s a sad fail.
Like I said, beside of that, the rest of the stuff is cool. As for the snow, I’m living in Canada, nothing new here, that why I was hoping for more decoration : they are the festive part in my country.
Definitely feel your pain Seb. Wish there was something I could do to fix it.
Their are more skins you can win in the Holiday Giveaway Wheel for houses and buildings.
On the community prize page it says that what adds to the community total is how many gift bags we place on neighbours towns, not how many gift cards we get…
It absolutely does say that. If Halloween is any indication, we should all be set to get the 5 prizes.

Why doesn’t the present box show up for me to drop presents at friend’s towns?
They may not be to point where they can accept gifts yet.
Gift boxes can be hiding behind buildings and impossible to see. I click on my “move” icon and then make the buildings invisible to see if any boxes are hiding anywhere.
Reminds me of eggs from the WD event. They land wherever you are in your neighbors town so I’ve been making sure I’m over an open area when I gift my neighborinos.
Hi Alissa….l’m sure its the same as Halloween goo , When you do not tap and collect the gift cards in your friends towns, it appears not to add to your total, but when you return to your own Sprinfield all of your tapped cards should appear.
Any idea what the Spin coins are or do ?

I just blasted thru all 100 of my friends in record time with that brand spanking new toy EA gave us, move to next town arrow. ahhhh come on in fellas the water is fine
LOVING the update, EA! (Character finder AND jump to next neighbor?! It’s a Wonderful Life!!) And thanks Addicts for once again getting as much up about it as quickly as possible. Great job.
Something I’m noticing is that there’s no option for vandalizing buildings during the Christmas season (holiday spirit and all, I guess), which means if you’ve collected on all your buildings, your neighbors have nothing to tap on and get their gift cards. For this event, I won’t be tapping on my brown houses, Kwickie Marts or Crusty Burger so that there will always be something for them.
Also, it may speed up later, but those gift bags don’t drop quite as frequently as the gremlins. The first few neighbors I was visiting, I was giving those away like I had spent the night visited by Ghosts of Past, Present and Future. Sadly, I guess I should have been a bit sparing in them as I ran out by the 3rd neighbor… Sorry, guys!
Alright, headed back to the Egg Nog Bar to enjoy some of the deliciousness and watch the little elves scurrying around my town dropping presents.

they have had the graphics for the neighbor jump in the files for a long time. I was actually wondering what it was. I’m glad they finally decided to release it. christmas is better than I could have imagined
I’ve been to a number of neighbors who have gift card totals greater than 0, yet I don’t get the gift bag icon. It seems to me that (unlike the gremlins), you must drop gift bags before completing the daily actions. Has anyone else had this result?
I received another gift bag from the Present Depot, bringing my total received to 3, and then I was able to deposit bags in my neighbors towns. It seems to not be tied to the “Too Much of a Good Thing” quest line, as detailed above, but rather gift bags received from the Depot.
I don’t either, not sure what the deal is. :-/

That happened to me, but cleared up by closing out the game and going back in. Hope that works for you!
You have to complete the first part of the quest line, as do your friends. The last section of this post (says Gift Bags) shows you the step by step on how to ensure you can drop Gift Bags in your friends town. 🙂
