WDTCF – The Sham Rock Café and Yupprechaun

Mora na maidine dhuit!

How’s everyone on this foine day?  Figured it’s only appropriate to try out a little Gaelic since we finally got some St. Patrick’s Day in our towns.  Green water, the return of the coveted pub and wishing well and of course, the new addition of the Sham Rock Café and Yupprechaun.  I must admit, with the delay of this event, I was afraid we wouldn’t see anything new and I’m so happy my fears were wrong.  I do wish it wasn’t for 120 donuts but nothing I can do about that.  I snatched it up immediately but it was an easy decision since I had the old stuff, although I think EA is mocking me since I said I preferred the green and orange versions previously.  This new building-character combo is a nice surprise.

WDTCF – Swanky Fish

Woo hoo!  I’m so stoked that EA gave us an episode tie-in.  Lots of cool Japanesey decorations and I couldn’t be more stoked.  If you didn’t know, I lived six years of my life in Okinawa, Japan so anything having to do with their culture make me smile so much.  Thanks EA!

For this WDTCF, I’d like to talk about the Swanky Fish.  I love sushi and probably eat it at least once a month.  When the Swanky Fish first became available for the “What Animated Women Want” promotional on April 8, 2013, I snatched it up right away.  90 donuts might be a bit but my town had to have a sushi restaurant.

I’m so thrilled it’s back!  It’s not very hard to figure out where it comes from as it came with an episode tie-in but I thought it’d be fun to discuss Season 24, Episode 17 and show some pics.  Go ahead and click if you agree. Continue reading

Q&A- The Addicts Team Top 10

Top Ten at 10? Don’t mind if I do. 🙂

An Addicts reader, Erika F., posed this question to us…

I would like to see a “Top 10″ list of your favorite premium items! I think it’d be really helpful for those (including me) having a hard time deciding which items to get, since there are just so many to pick from. Thanks so much addicts! Hope to hear back soon.

Well Erika, you asked…and now here are our answers. Everyone likes a Countdown, right?

What Would The Addicts Do: What WOULD We Buy With a 132 Donuts?

To buy or not to buy?  That is a common question facing many Tappers!  TSTO is a “freemium” game, and as such you can completely enjoy the game with out spending a dime of real world money!  But what if you’re looking to invest a little in the game?  What if you see some of those coveted “premium” items in your neighbor-eenos town and you want them in yours?  What do you do?  What do you buy?

With various donut buying options (from $1.99 (for 12) to $99.99 (for 2,400)) it can be hard to decide just what you need…and what you can get for each level.  So, I thought it would be a fun little experiment to see what our writers would buy with various donut purchases.

The first in this series is everyone’s favorite Wookiee and his take on what he WOULD buy witha 132 donuts (or a Tray Full for $9.99).

Let’s take a look at what Wookiee has to say….

Addicts Blast from the Past: Building A Better Springfield

This was originally posted back in early September 2013 but we thought some of the newer Tappers joining after the Halloween Update could use some insight on just how to build a better Springfield.

Envious of your friend’s Springfield’s? Wish your Springfield looked as cool as theirs? Well, we’re in-between updates right now, so while there is a little lull in the game why not consider reworking your town to build a better Springfield?!

Here’s the Addict’s Guide to Building a Better Springfield:

It’s All Good In The Hood: Consider The Neighborhood

House farming does have its perks, if you do it right. While I’m not a house farmer myself (come on EA give us more houses!) I do have neighbors who are. When done right house farming can make your Springfield look like it has nice neighborhoods where people would want to live. Don’t just stick houses here and there around Springfield, and don’t stack them all up on top of each other either. Consider your placement of each house, and how it will fit in a neighborhood setting.
Tip: Keep all of the ‘special houses’ together (Flanders, Simpsons, Wiggum, Skinner, etc) and keep the other houses together, in multiple number (Purple House, White House, Brown House, etc).

Location Location Location: Consider What Your Central Springfield Is

Your Central Springfield is the part of your Springfield that shows up the moment you and your friends open your town. First impressions are everything, so you want to have a really great Central Springfield that will make your neighbors want to look for more! If you don’t have an exciting Central Springfield your friends might not get excited to see the rest.
Tip: Some people like to put the Simpson’s house in the center of their Springfield, while others prefer a part or Town Hall. Try to put your best decorated building/decoration in your Central Springfield and keep up with it. You really want something that’s going to wow your friends!

Hardscape/Landscape: Consider Your Landscaping

Try to landscape each building. Think about how it would look in real life and be creative!
Tip: Check our our 2D design page for more ideas!

What’s In A Theme: Consider A Theme for Each Building

Think:  ‘If this building existed in real life, what would it look like” and try to create a theme around that thought. For example, Kamp Krusty would be in the woods surrounded by trees, water, and maybe some cabins. So design your Kamp Krusty area to include a lot of trees and shrubs, a river or lake, and maybe through in some Brown houses for the cabin look!
Tip: Keep up with the theme you’ve created for each building. Landscape when you can, and try to keep it in line with your design plan.

Park It: Consider Building A Park

Try and think outside the box here. Don’t just stick use buildings everywhere to take up space.  Utilize the decorations available and make a park. Use the table, gazebo, swing set, monkey bars and all possible trees and other forms of flowers and greenery to create a dedicated Springfield Park. Hey EA even gives you a Springfield Park sign to help make it happen!
Tip: Keep a theme to your park, and dedicate areas of it for specific things. For example keep the Monkey Bars, Swing Set, and Seesaw together to create a play area of your park!

Be A Simpsons Addict: Consider How Springfield Would Look

Follow The Simpsons a little bit and try setting your Springfield like it would look on the show!  It’s fun to see how things are on the Simpsons in relation to where you put them in your Springfield!

Should I Spend Donuts on The House of Evil?

With all of the Halloween premium items that are limited-time it may be overwhelming trying to decide which items to buy and what to pass on. With that limited-time label on items I know it can be tempting to just buy everything you can. But, have no fear! That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth your donuts & what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the House of Evil to your Springfield? Well before you hit that confirm button, let’s break down the Pros and Cons of adding this store to your Springfield.

houseofevil_menu
Building:
 House of Evil
Donut Price: 45 Donuts
Unique?: Yes
Pros:
-Your Consumerism points will go up +10
-Another unique building for your town.
-Least expensive building of those offered for the event.
-Limited-Time Building.  Great for new tappers and Android players who couldn’t play TSTO last year because it wasn’t available on Android.
Cons:
-No tasks at all
-No animation other than teeny window movement
-Does not come with unlock quests
-No interaction with other characters and/or animals in Springfield
Final Thought:
For those holding on tight to their precious donuts, I say this one isn’t worth it for me. 45 donuts isn’t much, but I would prefer a building my characters can visit and interact with. At least some animation. It is the cheaper of the ones available for the event.  It does give you “in game value” with the consumerism, but other than that it is just another building.  So, unless you’ve already purchased all of the other premium characters/buildings or you’re a completest, I would really wait on this one and save your donuts to decide towards the end of the event if you really want it.

Where did THAT come from – Springfield Museum of Natural History

Well hello there all you classy tappers and tappettes!

As if the Halloween Update wasn’t enough to keep us busy, EA heard the groans of boredom from some and dropped Level 36 into the mix.  Still think they don’t listen to the consumers?

In the mix of 36 (rhymed intentionally), came some really cool new stuff.  One item though that apparently isn’t too popular is the Springfield Museum of Natural History.  I personally love this building because I am a huge history buff.  Some day, I hope to teach history in my real life.  For now, I’ll stick with finding the “history” behind the cool new stuff we keep on getting.

Should I Spend Donuts on Planet Hype?

Wondering if you should add Planet Hype to your Squidport?   Well before you hit that confirm button, lets break down the Pros and Cons of adding Planet Hype to your boardwalk

TSTO Planet Hype
Building Name: Planet Hype
Donut Price: 150 Donuts
Dimensions: 5×10
Payout: $300 & 30xp every 12hours
Return on Investment: $2.00/.200XP /Donut Spent
Pros:
-Unlocks an additional Task for Wolfcastle
-1 of only 2 restaurants on the boardwalk.
-Neat animation, when Wolfcastle is there.
Cons:
-A bit expensive for the payout.
-Only Wolfcastle has a task there
-It’s quite large for the boardwalk, and when space is limited it can be tough to fit in.
Final: If you’re a big Wolfcastle fan this is a great addition to the game, even if you’re not a big Wolfcastle fan. It is a bit pricey though, so if you’re looking for a better bang for your donuts you may want to wait on Planet Hype and go with another building.
